《Emerald》59

I stared off into the horizon, watching the sun set.
I stood there alone, as the warm spring air blew across me.
It wad quite... until Dumbledore and Harry appeared next to me.
They seemed to appear out of thin air.
Dumbledore was hunched over, holding his stomach. He had his arm around Harry, who was holding him up, as he let out low groans.
"What the hell happened!" I yelled running over to them.
"Long story!" Harry yelled at me, as he walked Dumbledore over to the railing.
Dumbledore let go of Harry, and used the railing to hold himself upright.
"You need to go to the hospital wing, professor." Harry pleaded.
"No, I need Snape," Dumbledore turned his head to us, "go get Snape. Don't speak to anyone on the way. It's very important that you two aren't seen either. Go, now."
Harry and I looked at each other, then turned and ran.
As we ran down the first flight of stairs, Harry grabbed me by the arm and pulled me to the side.
"What?" I whispered to him.
"Shhhh." He hushed me, as he pulled me into the shadows.
Harry pointed to the stairs.
Draco stealthily walked up them.
His foot steps were quiet and quick.
What was Draco doing?
"He's probably looking for me." I told Harry.
Harry pulled me through the cluttered level underneath the astronomy room.
You could see up through the floor boards.
Draco stood before Dumbledore, as he had his wand pointed right at him.
"Good evening, Draco. What brings you here on this fine, spring evening?" Dumbledore stood tall and spoke boldly, to hide his pain.
"Who else is here? I heard you talking!" Draco spoke frankly. He was nervous, you could see the sweat glistening on his forehead.

Why was he pointing his wand at Dumbledore,
"I often talk aloud to myself. I find it extraordinarily useful. Have you been whispering to you yourself, Draco?" Dumbledore turned to Draco.
Dumbledore's eyes looked like they were filled with sorrow, as they scanned over Draco.
"Draco, you are no assassin." Dumbledore spoke in a much softer tone.
"How do you know what I am?! I've done things that would shock you!" Draco yelled, stepping closer to Dumbledore, with his wand still pointing at him.
"Like cursing Katie Bell and hoping that, in return, she would bear a cursed necklace to me?" Dumbledore question him, "Like replacing a bottle of mead with one laced with poison? Forgive me, Draco, but I cannot help feeling these actions are so weak that your heart couldn't really be in them."
Harry was right all along, Draco was the one who gave Katie that necklace.
That wine we drank at Slughorn's...
My heart quickly dropped to my stomach.
Ron and I, drank that wine.
Draco had almost poisoned us.
"He trusts me! I was chosen!" Draco quickly pulled up his left sleeve of his shirt, revealing the Dark Mark on his left arm.
Draco was marked by Voldemort.
Draco was a deatheater.
Draco was one of them.
My heart felt like it was going to explode.
My throat tightened, as tears filled my eyes.
Not Draco.
Harry quickly put his hand over my mouth, before my cries escaped my lips.
Dumbledore's eyes drifted down through the floor boards at us, only for a second, before they went back to Draco.
"I shall make it easy for you..." Dumbledore humbly raised his wand into the air.
"Expelliarmus!" Draco castes, disarming Dumbledore.
"Very good, very good." Dumbledore congratulated Draco.

I could hear the faint creak of a door opening in the distance.
"You're not alone? There are others? How?" Dumbledore quickly asked Draco.
"The Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement. I've been mending it." Draco spat, taking another step closer.
"Let me guess... It has a sister? A twin?"
"At Borgin & Burke's. They form a passage."
"Ingenius. Draco, years ago, I knew a boy who made all the wrong choices. Please let me help you." Dumbledore begged Draco.
Please Draco, let him help you!
Harry lifted his wand into the air, and pointed it at Draco through the holes in the wood above us.
Snape appeared next to Harry and I.
Our eyes grew wide, as Snape put his finger to his lips to hush us.
Harry tightened his grip on my mouth.
Snape stepped out of the room, as he slowly walked up the stairs.
"I don't want your help! Don't you understand?" Draco began crying.
The skin around his eyes and nose turned red, as the tears fell down his cheeks.
"I have to do this! I have to kill you! Or he's going to kill me..." Draco whispered as he quietly wept.
Bellatrix Lestrange apeared up on astronomy tower, followed by a group of deatheaters.
Draco had let deatheaters into Hogwarts.
My heart shattered into a million pieces, as I silently wept.
I felt light headed, like I was going to pass out.
"Well, look what we have here. Well done, Draco!" Bellatrix smiled, as she walked over to Draco.
She softly kissed the back of his head.
"Good evening, Bellatrix." Dumbledore announced, "I think introductions are called for."
"Love to, Albus, but I'm afraid we're on a bit of a tight schedule." Bellatrix stepped closer to Dumbledore.
She quickly turned her head back to Draco.
"Do it!" She hissed at Draco.
Draco's body trembled, as he tried to swallow his cries.
Draco was going to kill Dumbledore.
"He doesn't have the stomach... just like his father. Let me finish him in my own way!" Another deatheater stepped forward, pointing his wand at Dumbledore.
"No! The Dark Lord was clear, The boy's to do it." Bellatrix yelled at the deatheater.
She looked back at Draco.
"This is your moment. Do it! Go on, Draco! NOW!" She ordered him.
Draco slowly began lowering his wand.
Draco couldn't kill anyone.
Draco didn't have the heart to do it.
"No." Snape said, as he stepped next to Draco.
'Severus... please." Dumbledore begged.
Snape turned toward Dumbledore, and slowly pulled his wand from his pocket.
Snape took a deep breath in.
"Avada Kedavra!" Snape casted the unforgivable curse at professor Dumbledore.
Dumbledore fell back, over the railing of the astronomy behind him.
Dumbledores lifeless body fell from the top of the tower to the ground.

The Priest of Genes
Meet Seth, acolyte in the Church of Virtue. He’ll be a Priest like his father soon, he just knows it. Sure he didn’t inherit his mother’s preaching power, but he doesn’t mind being the secondary priest at whatever temple he is assigned to. Just as long as he has a library. Meet this genetics textbook. Hmm, that doesn’t belong here. It must have come from somewhere far away, I guess something happened to its owner. I’m sure a studious young man who likes healing could go far with this information, whether he wants to or not. This is my first time really writing anything, so I hope you like it! Please let me know if I make any mistakes; I have a new R&D tech job at a genomics company, so I probably don’t edit as much as some people. I’m shooting for two thousand-ish word chapters released on Sundays, since none of the webnovels I read ever seem to update that day. Underserved Market! Genre is fantasy, possibly progression fantasy. Maybe a tiny bit litRPG if you wait a while and squint really hard, but that’s the most I’m prepared to claim. Hedged my bets on the content warnings, nothing that bad. Cover art from A. W. Gelman
