《An Average Zombie's Path of Evolution》Chapter 10 - Assault on the Stronghold (2)

We are on our way to sector three, where the scouts located one of the rare manholes that are not blocked by traffic or other debris, this area is also safe and guarded by a patrol station, therefore we won't have to deal with any ambushes as we retreat.
We walk onward with a rapid pace, bracing our bodies for the worst. At the same time we tell jokes to ourselves to keep our minds preoccupied and away subject of death. Several civilians who are either helping around the camp or resting constantly take glances at us, some even salute us or make encouraging gestures, little boys and girls with gloomy expressions stare intently at us, however their eyes hold no feeling of reverence nor pity.
The camp right now looks lifeless, not even the smell of food is able to dismiss the idea that they might die tonight, especially the children who have recently become targets of hunter type zombie, during those nights the wails of mothers who had their children devoured rang throughout the camp and nothing anybody did could stop it, not that they tried to stop it.
After half an hour of walking we came to a desolate street, the guard equipped with an assault rifle ran accross from his guard tower and used a key to open the metal gate.
Across the gate several piles of corpses were being doused in fuel and other flammable liquids, this is sector three's "corpse yard" were corpses are incinerated for sanitary reasons. The people actually doing the burning are volunteers from the groups of survivors that constantly seek for refuge in this encampment, one of the volunteers specially sticks out due to the pair of gloves on his hands.
(Julius)*Whistle* Thats a fine pair of claws he got his hands on... maybe I'll trade my knife for them.

Julius for some reason approaches the man, they appear to be bartering over something.
After several detours we had to take due to debris blocking our way finally arrive at the alley our scout reported, a group of five walkers was there, however we easily killed them by using our shotguns as blunt weapons and smashing their heads into pulp, well except for julius who excitedly used a pair of claws to toy around with a walker.
Underneath our feet is a rectangular manhole, it looks like it was forcefully torn open recently since a pair of fresh bloody handprints were still imprinted onto the steel. I take out a red flare from one of the pockets on my backpack and ignite it.
"bloop"
Looks like part of the tunnel is flooded, however we can't put this mission on halt.
(Jaeson)- "ok guys, it appears we're going to have to use the infrared goggles..."
(Julius)- "I'd rather not go in there but..."
(Xavier)- "we have no choice"
(Bernabe)-"Going in!" *Splash*
(Bernabe)- "Hop in it's nice and warm"
(Jaeson)- "it's now or never"
*splash* *splash* *splash* *splash* we hop on in unison.
(Xavier)- "damn its a void in here"
There appears to be nothing but water down here, the infrared cameras haven't picked up any heat signatures. The humid environment is very uncomfortable, even though we just entered my body is already sweating, however its rapidly absorbed by our equipment. Luckily our protective gas masks filtered any possible smell or dangerous gas that might lurk in here.
*ploop* *ploop* *splash* *splash*
The only sound we've heard is the sound of our legs pulling in and out the water which currently reaches our knees, however it doesn't slow our pace at all due to our superhuman strength.
A bright red instantly comes into vision from the corner of my eye, the wall on the sides crumble and the falling rubble creates several large ripples in green water.

"KRRGGYYAAAA!"
A disgusting pale humanoid creature leaps from the hole in the wall towards us at a great speed. Bernabe quickly steps up and pushes the creature back into its hole and shoots its head, splattering brain matter around the hole. As if triggering an alarm other holes start bursting from the walls followed by similar screams.
(Jaeson)- “Ambush!” Based on previous intel these are sewer mutants are very sensitive to energy transmission including sound.
(Xavier)- “don’t use guns”
A mutant leaps towards me from the left, while another one appears from my back, Xavier is busy punching two that leaped towards him and bernabe is busy helping him. Just as i was about to get pounced from the back julius comes charging in and punches the mutant behind me on its left rib, giving me enough time to hit the mutant on my left with the back of my shotgun, I quickly walk towards bernabe to help him finish off a mutant that took hold of his shotgun’s stock crush it.
(jaeson)- “that was a close call, from now on you’re not allowed to use your shotguns”
(Xavier) “ we should keep quiet while we're at it”

Sector 3 Encampment
“Commander big trouble!, We tried sending the message however all our radio towers and communication equipment has been destroyed!”
(Commander) “How?!! All our equipment is carefully guarded and our radio towers are placed in very secure locations!”
“It appears they were destroyed by a group of hunters during midnight”
(Newbie)- “Commander… we.. we have a terrible problem! Hundreds of zombies are rushing out of manholes, and some streets even collapsed! A bloater type zombie has demolished the front gate and zombies are rushing into our camp!”
(Commander)-”....How’s the situation in the other nearby encampments”
(Newbie)-”we haven’t had any contact, i'm guessing the zombies have thoroughly cut off all our communications by killing all the scouts outside simultaneously”
(Commander)-”rile up everyone in the camp, to get through this everyone is going to have to play a role”
(Newbie)-”Yes sir”
(Commander) I wonder how HQ will respond… I hope we don’t end up having to deal with that specimen from project GHOUL.

The Yes-Mage
Plenty of people have stopped and asked what it'd be like to simply have everything, and Sylvain Henry Camille Johansson was no different. He was a man who had a lot of things going on, with a name that'd make a supervillain blush and a family who'd make even the useless of their rank into someone important. It was a shame, then, that he was slapped with a dreadfully unfortunate condition that kept him from living up to any of those already low expectations. Stuck living a life where magic is everywhere while he's left working with nothing more than a moderate intellect, a little bit of whatever influence he could get from his family, and a lifetime's practice at making himself the ideal subordinate for his bosses' boss, Vane was still beating the odds and slowly working his way up in the world. When the cunning yes-man finally got a chance to really make a name for himself, he leapt at the offer, taking his first real step onto a road he knew he was always meant to walk. His goal? Nothing less than finding out why he and too many other unfortunate souls are barred from the wonderful world of the higher energies, and with any luck, fixing it. Of course, life has a knack for interfering in even the humblest of plans, and Vane's lofty ideals were anything but humble; he was practically a walking bullseye for disaster. The funny thing about catastrophe, though, is that nobody can ever say what form it's going to take. That’s why, when it all went wrong for Vane, he'd gotten everything he'd ever wanted foisted onto him, and Everything else, too. Watch as a man so used to saying 'yes' to everyone above him finds himself stuck with the power to make reality itself say it back.

The Demon of Shadows (Hiatus)
Spartans. The program itself resulting in the implantation of a limiter for a certain individual, which acted in limiting that persons emotions. Replacing it with a cold logical based calculative mindscape. The limiter aimed to support the ideal supersoldier in completing the objectives assigned to them. Be it mass slaughter, or assasination. One such man who had volunteered to participate in the program to provide data in return for a large sum of money to save a precious friend, has his life lost in battle after years of service and mindless violence. Death, however, was something he usually gave, not to receive. So when death comes to take his life, he awaits in silence, only to be dumbfounded at what is to happen next. This is the story of Nicholas Gray, the Shadow Demon. Note: Story is based on other LitRPGs found on the site such as Dante's Immortality, Necromancer and Co, etc. and on Halo for the majority of the first chapter and possibly later on down the road, I only borrowed things such as the armour and weapons used in the game itself and all credit goes to them for that kind of stuff. I will also perhaps use it to explain his backstroy to further character progression if I can. The cover photo was also a picture I found on the internet and if you wish for credit or for me to take it down just say so and i'll do it as fast as possible. I also don't have a set schedule, and this is just being used to improve my grammar and just as a hobby, nothing more. I will also appreciate feedback in regards to grammar, style, and story in general as this is the first time I have created a story apart from at school, hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it!
