Zen’s POV
Ah What a pain. This girl Leah is convinced I am the bad guy. I am not a bad guy. But, I would not say that I am a good guy either. I basically do whatever I want. I get a telepathic message from my sword, Kurohime. Yeah, my sword can talk. I forgot to mention that.
Kuro: Master are we going to cut the bitch? Just say the word and her blood will be on my blade in seconds.
She can be a little dark.
Zen: No we’re not going to cut the bitch. This is a misunderstanding. You know Mom’s rules and the most important one is never kill an innocent person.
Kuro: Just a little stabby-stab.
Zen: What is with you and stabbing people?
Kuro: I am a cursed sword. I got my ability to communicate by cutting down 1000s of people. If you did not have a strong will, you would go on a killing spree.
Leah: Why are you just standing there?
Crap, I forgot no one can hear Kuro and my conversations and I am standing here looking like a fucking idiot. Hey, at least she did not attack me. I turn Kurohime back into my necklace. Girl, I just saved your life. Kuro’s harder to control when she is soaked in blood.
Leah: So, have you decided to surrender villain?
Zen: No and I am not a villain. If anything, I am neutral.
Leah: Take out your sword. I want to beat you at your best.
Zen: Little girl, you could not handle me at my best.
A vein starts to pop in the front of her forehead.
Leah: I am seventeen.
Zen: Really? Three years older than me. I thought you were twelve. It does not help your image with twin tails and you sucking on a lollipop.
Leah: YOU! BOLT- BLAST!
Leah shot lighting at me. I use Qui to avoid it. She then covers her body with sparks and speeds up her body movements. She begins punching and kicking. The little bit… I mean young lady has some skills. She is quite quick. I think I need to slow her down. I use Qui to improve my speed and I also put it in my fingertips. We go back and forth; going blow for blow. Then, she finally falls to the ground.

Leah: WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?!
Zen: I hit your pressure points while we were fighting. You won’t be able to move for at least fifteen minutes. Now, let’s finish this. QUI PALM STRIKE!
I throw a palm attack at her while she is defenseless and she closes her eyes. I stop my punch right before I hit her face.
Zen: Just kidding ahahahahahahhah….. you should have seen your face.
Leah: What... YOU, YOU ASSHOLE!
Zen: I get that a lot.
After that, I go up to Leah and I steal her wallet. Then, I take all the cash out of it. This chick is loaded. Looks like I won't have to ask mom for snack money for a long time.
Leah: Hey, what do you think you’re doing?
Zen: What does it look like I am doing. I am taking compensation. You took time out of my busy schedule and even accused me of robbing this place. All I did was rob the bad guy.
Leah: You’re a thief.
Zen: If you would have let me go, I would have not stolen from you. All choices have consequences. I guess It is time for me to go. KUROHIME.
I summon Kuro and then I rip a whole into space and leave. I leave a confused lolli-pop sucking girl behind me. Afterwards, I head to my favorite cafe and then home. I walk in and mom is staring at me. Oh, shit she knows.
Kuro: Master, I think she knows.
Zen: We plead the fifth. She has no evidence.
Rei: Is there anything you want to tell me about what happened after school.
Zen: Just went to get a snack like usual.
Rei: Are you sure you want to stick with your story?
Zen: Yep.
Mom takes out her phone and shows me a video on YouTube. The title’s, “Teen Thug Robs Super Villain and Little Girl Super Hero”. Damn! It has gone viral.

Zen: Am I in trouble?
Rei: Oh, big time. How could you rob a little girl?
Zen: She said she was seventeen.
Rei: Really, she looks ten.
She’s not mad that I used my powers and Kurohime; she’s mad that I got caught. Yeah, assassin problems. We’re kind of in hiding from mom’s former village members. They don't know what I look like. So, I think we are safe. After her interrogation, we have dinner and I go to bed.
Tony’s POV
I am in my office when I hear Jarvis 3.0. He is my android assistant that I built several years back. He enters the room.
Jarvis: Good evening Mr. Stark.
Tony: Jarvis.
Jarvis: It appears one of our students got involved in a fight outside of school with another teen.
Tony: Great! This is going to be horrible publicity for the school. How bad did our student beat the kid. I better pay for the kid’s hospital bills and write…well, have you write an apology letter.
Jarvis: Our student lost.
Tony: What?
Jarvis: The victor was the other party. Would you like to see the video?
Tony: Play it Jarvis.
The Video starts with a kid with light brown skin and he has his long black hair in a ponytail. He also has three sets of piercings on his ears. The video shows how he summons a sword and pierces Arsonist’s shoulder then he robs him. Soon after, our student intervenes. It’s Leah Clark. She is a Junior here and has the power to shoot electricity. She may look young but that girl is no pushover. His martial arts is quite good. I think he is using Qui as well. There are very few warriors I know that can use Qui. He stops her from moving and robs her.
Tony: The kid is quite skilled. Has he ever applied for Avengers’ Academy?
Jarvis: Scanning. No Sir. He has never applied for the academy.
Tony: I can't have a loose cannon like him out on the streets. He could be killed or worse; he could kill somebody. Jarvis, run the facial recognition software. I want to know who this Kid is.
Jarvis: Scanning. Information found. His name is Zen Shade. His Mother is Reiko Shade and his father is Daniel Shade. He never knew his father. They moved over from Okinawa, Japan when Zen was still a baby. He now goes to Middleton High school as a freshman. One more thing Sir, Reiko Shade’s maiden name is Reiko Onizuka, the Fairy of the Dark Blade and former assassin.
Tony: I have heard of her. That woman is as scary as Natasha Romanov when she is angry. She has killed corrupt politicians, warlords, and cartel members. There are not many people who do not know the Fairy of the Dark Blade in the underworld. I heard she retired fourteen years ago. Now, I know why. Jarvis, clear my schedule for tomorrow. I am going to make a house call.
Jarvis: Yes Sir.
Zen’s POV
My school day sucked even worse than usual. The kids are more scared of me now than before since that video went viral. I decide to drown my sorrow in junk food. When I come home, my mom is serving tea to an old man. Who the hell is this old geezer? They notice me.
Tony: Hello Zen. I am Tony Stark, Principal of Avengers’ Academy. How would you like to go to school there?
Zen: Hah?

The Mortal Acts
The Mortal Acts is an epic progression fantasy with a lower focus on training aspects and a great focus on discovering new ways of using powers intelligently. I've always been drawn to stories where characters use their powers creatively to overcome opponents and obstacles, and I think all the possibilities can provide a great playground for twists and turns. It's inspired by a variety of media, including Will Wight's Cradle, Hunter x Hunter, and Bioshock, so if you like the creative power use elements from those, come check it out. This is my first serial, and please feel free to leave comments and feedback. For backstory, behind-the-scenes, and other fun stuff, come chat on my discord! Become a patron to read up to 20 chapters ahead here! Blurb: Riven Morell cuts short his regular life at school and home when his mother falls terminally ill. Desperate to find a cure, he travels to Severance Frontier, a desolate land haunted by hordes of ghosts, witches, and demons collectively called the Deathless. But a miraculous cure doesn’t magically fall into his hands. Things are worse in Severance Frontier than Riven had assumed. Ghosts are banding together into armies, demons are kidnapping anyone who strays out of settlements, and witches are enslaving everyone left and right. Riven, of course, gets embroiled in the mess. Missions to curb the Deathless activity are one thing, but when it starts to look like this is just the beginning of a war that extends beyond the mortal realm, Riven has a hard time focusing on why he came to Severance Frontier in the first place. His mother is inching towards death with every passing day, but if he doesn’t face down the Deathless, what little civilization the Frontier holds will be overrun and destroyed. Thankfully, it looked like the Deathless might just hold the secret of the elusive cure.
