Chapter 10: Training
Staring at the flame, Nalser didn't actually know what to do. "Well, let's try the stupidest thing first." As he tought that, he streched his hand out into the flame. Contrary to his expectations, nothing happened. His hand slipped through the flame like, the flame was a mirage. "This is biazrre." He said in a astonished voice. He started inspecting the flame closer. Doing so, he discovered that the flames core was pitch black surrounding it were yellow flames. The yellow flames we followed by red ones, which in turn were followed by black ones.it was like three layers of defence. Not knowing what to do and mainly because he had no way of interacting with it, he decided to leave the space.
When he was back in the real world, he opened his eyes. "Since I can't do anything about it, I'll leave it be. Now then, since I've completed the first rotation, I should stay here for a while, train atleast 1 cycle and then head out. I have food to last me for atleast 4 months. If I run out, there's a lot of meat running around here anyways." He shrugged his shoulders and started formulating a training plan. It was said in the jade slip that to complete the first rotation takes about 3-4 months.
He had another objective to this training camp as he had no idea, how strong his opponents are. He knew the best, that the only reason he won against Tobias was due to him underestimating Nalser. He did not get cocky and full of himself. He had seen many soldiers in his past life that got cocky due to one success and died soon after. He wanted to atleast complete one cycle to atleast have a chance at survival by running away, when the situation gets too dicey. "Only a fool dies for his principles, not like I'm more sane than those guys, seeing as I managed to piss of an entire kingdoms nobility," while quietly scolding himself, he made up his mind. It was currently more beneficial to train in this forest, where magical beasts, who to spar with, were abundant. Having made up his mind, he closed his eyes again and started absorbing and refining Mana.

Time flew by, minutes became hours, hours became days, days became weeks and weeks became months. During that time the only time he wasn't refining was, when he was sleeping or taking care of his bodily needs. When a month and a half had passed, he had finished the first cycle of Mana refining and was close to completing the bone refining. When at first he was puzzled as to why he had to wait until he started bone refining before using either movement techniques or attack techniques, then now it was clear to him. Using Mana to boost ones speed places a major toll on ones joints. The more he started thinking about it, the more he was glad that he wasn't stupid enough to rush ahead and ignore the warning. Every day he trained with Dreamer aswell, to get a perfect feel of its attack angles and weigth, length. Now that he was proficient enough with a weapon, he wanted to test out his own limits. He took precautions that, when a situation gets too dicey he can immidiately out of there. When everything was set and in order, he started venturing outside.
As he trekked through the woods, wearing only panths and shoes, he ignored magic beasts that he saw as out of his league. Two hours had passed since he started running around in the woods. Now he had found the perfect prey. It was a 6 meter tall black gorrilla like thing. He had a snake tail that seemed to have a mind of his own. The beast was currently covered in blood but it wasn't his. The blood belonged to a black lion that was laying on the ground, not breathing. About the lion, Nalser had heard of it and was quite astonished. It was a Scarlet-Eyed Black King. They were a rank 6 Magic beast when matured. Seeing that the gorilla had slain the lion, Nalser immidiately turned around not wanting anything to do with it.
Just as he had turned around, he heard a whimpering noise from behind him. Slowly turning back he saw a little Scarlet-Eyed Lion King touching the bigger one with his nose, seemingly trying to wake it up. The gorilla was annoyed, he raised his arm and wanted to smash the little lion into pulp. Seeing the situation, a memory ran through Nalser's mind. He had tried waking up his own mother aswell, when she was shot. Seeing the memory, brought on an impulse, to kill this giant gorilla. Gritting his teeth, he dashed forward, he had already unsheated Dreamer and stored the scabbard in the Spacial ring. Seeing the gorillas arm swing down, he immidiately activated Phantom steps. In an instant, he appeared 20 meter's away the cub in his arm. As the gorilla's arm had finished its swing, he noticed he was missing his arm. There was a clean cut made, from his wrist onwards, there was nothing. Immidiately after, he heard a thud from nearby. When he looked at it, he found out it was his own arm.

The method Nalser just used, was a combination of Phantom steps and attack techniques, by focusing the Mana right, he made the already sharp blade even sharper and added strength by increasing the speed at which the blade moved. He named it Phantom blade. This was going to be his killing technique. " Njaa, seems like I still need a lot of work on Phantom blade." Even during a fight he was thinking that. After cutting off the gorillas arm he confirmed his suspicions. The gorilla only won because the tiger was still weak from giving birth to the little guy. The little lion was as quiet as a mouse now, he was shaken up by the sudden turn of events. Eyeing the gorilla, Nalser took out his shirt of the Spacial ring and wrapped it around the little lion. Holding tightly onto the little lion, he readied his blade and started staring at the gorilla.
The gorilla was genuinely enraged. He was certain that his arm was cut off by the little human standing before him but he didn't understand how. In his blind rage, he started storming towards the youth with a naked torso and a blade in his hand. The fight was over in a second. all the gorilla saw a blur and then he lost all strength.
Seeing the gorilla charging over, Nalser decided to use Phantom blade again. He was ready for a bitter fight but to his surprise he could cut through the gorillas neck like butter. "Eh, that's it? It was so easy ?" astonished by his own strength, he stared at the gorilla with a dumb look. Not knowing if the gorilla was dead or just feigning death he approached him with caution.
Making sure that it was dead, Nalser sheathed Dreamer and took out his army knife. With it, he gouged out the monter core. That was the only valuable part of a magical beast that was rank 3 and lower. A magic core was the same to a magical beast, that a Mana Palace for to a humans. The only diffrence was that, humans didn't form a physical core. Discarding the corpse, he moved towards the Scarlet-Eyed Black King's corpse. He salvaged the monster core and dug a hole to bury the lions corpse. The little cub seeing that it's mother was dead, was sad. It silently sat there and waited until Nalser was done. Magical beast, even low ranked ones had intelligence, the cub of a rank 6 magical beast was smarter than your average 10-year old.
Having finished burying the corpse, Nalser started walking back towards the cave. The little lion followed him. Not knowing what to do with the little guy, he started patting his head. He had been through a similar situation when he was young. The little lion suddenly pushed his nose at Nalser's arm, right beneath the shoulder and a black light shone out.

Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
