《Re:Guardian (dropped)》Re:Guardian Chapter 4

After we had landed, Melody and David watched as Goliath flew away with Kira struggling against the wind she made.
'I hope he will be ok' she thought, David easily saw my worry for the tiny dragon.
David: don’t worry Melody, she will only train him but if anything out of his strength appears she will defend him with her life.
Melody: I know she has a very motherly feel about her.' She said looking down.
As he looked at her, David's only thoughts were,
'how am I going to make her get over that incidents, if she isn’t willing to let it go, training her magic abilities will be hard'
He thought about what happened a week before the egg hatching. In the town of Bowels, Melody's home town, there was a magic show that attracted a lot of attention, most of the time the magicians discreetly explained how to do the magic spells but adults didn’t think much but sometimes kids would listen and learn it, Melody was one and the magic she did is simply gather mana in a ball but because she is part elf she possesses more magic giving her more control if trained but she hadn’t received any, so she just gathers more and more until it began to go out of control. Most of the magicians from the show noticed the it and started panicking and made barriers to protect the people around them but even then the area was still scorched from the magic explosion as if a fire happened, part of the crowd had been severely injured and only Melody was unscathed, this lead her to be criticized and almost lead to her being killed, if it wasn’t for the scouts the academies send out to find talents, they saved her but she was deeply depressed and fearful of lots of things as were the people around her of her. Rumors soon spread through the kingdoms about half elves destructive magic abilities after a week there were many who were exiled or killed for fear of their potential. For her it wasn’t until Kira bit her that she snapped out of her depressive state she had been in for the whole week because of the other students.
David just looked at the girl as he wondered what method to train her in magical arts.
David: 'for now let’s make a camp here, I need to have her train her physical strength first' thinking that he pulled a small bag.
David: Melody, here this is for you' he said handing her the bag.
After she took it she looked surprised.
Melody: what is this I can feel a lot of mana in here.
David: that’s a magic bag I made for training, inside are some tools, the first part of training will be to make a camp, a small house will do so please on to the forest and cut down a few trees, you don’t need to drag them I’ll do that.
She looks worried but walked towards the forest, then opening the bad and sticking her hand it she was surprised when he pulled out an axe as long as he arm
Melody: h-how does something like this fit in here
Her face clearly showed curiosity and a hint of fear.
When she reached the forest, she choose a somewhat thin tree near the edge the forest and began chopping, after ten minutes of chopping she had just scratched the bark off the tree but she was sweating like crazy.
Melody: what’s up with this tree, is it made of iron
Advertisement
David: like I though these are too hard for you' David said appearing out of nowhere, ‘ok first lesson this will help in many other tasks, first make a very strong mana aura around your axe, if you don’t you’ll never cut the tree with your strength.
She looked down and looked like she was about to cry.
Melody: I guess I won’t be able to do it after all' she said as tears began to fall.
David: I guess I have no choices, Melody hand me your bag, keep the axe.
After she gave it back to him he turns back with a serious look on his face.
David: in hear was a bit of food that would last about a week, but since I’m forced into this I have no choice, until you cut down this tree properly; I won’t give you any food.
She looked shocked at the news which made the tears stop.
Melody: how will I survive then?
David: I’m not so much a monster to let you starve so I’ll give you food at noon if you want to eat properly learn quickly or you'll just be looked at as a freak with too much magic potential and no control everyone sees half elves as.
As soon as he said freak Melody slumped and began giving off a dangerous killing intent.
Melody: ........eak' she muttered something almost inaudible.
David: what was that?
She looked up with a dangerous light in her eyes
Melody: I SAID DONT CALL ME A FREAK' she shouted then as if the whole world froze the mana in the air began to rush around Melody then into the axe, after a few seconds the mana became visible to the naked eye after so much condensed onto the axe making it look like a sword.
David: oh, I guess your finally getting it' he said pulling his sword out, 'but if you want me to take it back then come at me and make me.
As he said that a second vortex of mana rushed into him and then his sword becoming just like Melody's.
As she watch she held her axe up over her as more mana condensed as did David. After a few second they both brought there weapons down.

After leaving Melody with David, I flew after Goliath, well tried, whenever I got to close the wind made my her wings would make me lose balance while if I was too far she would increase her speed, truthfully I was getting pissed she was completely toying with me and it was getting on my nerves. Every few minutes she would lift her head and look back to see how I was doing, only to grin at my misfortune. After a bit an idea came to mind, I thought of catching her in one burst and stick onto her back like before. I began gathering mana in my wings keeping a safe distance so the wind doesn’t distract me. As soon as I gathered enough I flew forward, all I heard at first was a thump from my wings.
BOOM!
Out of nowhere a shockwave hit my from the front throwing me very far in the opposite direction I was going. When I finally regain my balance I saw Goliath she was very far but she had stopped in midair and was looking back
Goliath: if you think a cheap trick like that will get me, think again little lizard.
Instantly I lost myself I’m my rage and like a little kid having a temper tantrum I roared and flared around for a few seconds before I turn my rage to her.

Kira: ill make you talk those words back you old hag.
Without thinking I reach out to as much mana from the air and covered my body and wings.
Kira: get ready
Even from far away I could see her smiling then I heard her roar.
Goliath: bring it on little lizard.
That was the last thing I heard before flying a full speed towards her.

Back in the forest, about ten minutes had passed since David made her angry, the area they had begun to fight was completely destroyed, and all the trees within a fifteen meter radius had been cleanly cut by one of them during the fight. After ten minutes Melody was already on her knees gasping for breath.
David: wow so strong for such a young lady, I can’t believe I needed to use 5% of my total power to fight back', he said both playing but impressed. Melody didn’t reply she just focused on regaining her energy.
David: well now that we are finished with this lets get to building our little town shall we.
Melody looked up confused.
Melody: what town weren’t we going to make a camp
David: of course but you see this area is an area that has been needing development for a long time, we talked with the king and he agreed to set up a town here but I needed to make the area safe so, I took this chance to train you as well, both in combat as well as crafting jobs you will learn them before you graduates, when the six months are up you won’t need to rely on craftsmen as much, now let’s get started, the settlers arrive in about two weeks we need at least a few houses, once they arrive they will go about their own work and constructions.
With that he picked up two trees on the ground and dragged them back to the camp site and ordered me to cut off the branches, and picked them to use as firewood. For the next few days it went like this just cutting and preparing the wood logs. On the third day David began teaching her construction skills and made her make her own house. He laid the foundation with several large trees cut in half laid down on the ground, creating a flat floor and pushed dirt below the trees to keep them from moving.
David: ok I taught you the basics, now get working you build your own house, I’ll do my own.
With that he turned and began chopping his own and lifting the walls. Melody didn’t start immediately she didn’t have a clue how to begin since she only knew the basics on how to make it, she didn’t even have a layout so she watched how David built his. He began making a frame with the thinner logs then began to lift the wall frame until the frame was done, it divided the house into four rooms, one was very large, probably a living room, two rooms were medium sized and the last was small.
She kept watch was he took kept making his house, after he began putting the logs into place she began and did the same as him making a frame for her house.

Half an hour after I had started chasing Goliath, I was ready out of breath and was having a hard time staying in the air. Flying around me, Goliath was drawing circles while laughing.
Goliath: is this all you have, I guess it’s worth praise since it was entertaining playing tag, though I didn’t expect you to reach those speeds, for someone so young, 5% my power could burn a town to the ground but you made me focus that much just to play with you with that much power, I’m impressed' she said sarcastically.
I didn’t reply because I barely had strength to continue flying.
Goliath: seems you’re near your limit, come on I’ll take you to your training ground, land on my back. As she said that she flew below be, I let my weight fall on her as I fell asleep as soon as I dropped onto her back.
I don’t know how much time passed but I woke up when Goliath landed since it shook her whole body.
Kira: where are we' I asked getting off and landing in front of her. In front of me stood a huge mountain the top was so high I couldn’t even see the top since it was covered by the clouds.
Goliath: this is the world tree the tallest tree in this world, you can also call it the dragons training ground, its used by all academy dragons for their training period.
Kira: so what do I need to do.
Goliath: first you need a place to sleep, the tree has many caves carved into it you can take one if you can kill the current inhabitants or you can make your own.
When I looked up I saw many small and large bodies flying in the sky, Goliath also saw them.
Goliath: those must be the recruits from the other academy, your friends should be here, though it will be hard to find them since they are probably in a different location, anyway get going find a cave that will fit you for the next few months and be careful, if you don’t want to find one dig, just some advice the tree doesn’t burn, also train your dragon breath.
Kira: ok but I have [Fire Breathe] not [Dragon Breathe]
Goliath: I know which is why you need to train it until you learn to do it, oh and for reference in three months you should be around the size near my knee
'If she is five stories high that is about fifteen meters, so I’ll be around three meters in height after three months.
I took flight thinking about what she said.
After rising about three hundred meters I start seeing hole throughout the trees surface. As I got higher the holes started getting sparser but larger in size until I reached a height were the holes were around five meters high.
'This area should do ill occupy a five meter high cave since every dragon grows differently just like humans'
After picking one, I landed on the entrance; as soon as I landed Goliath appeared flying outside.
Goliath: oh and hear I though you would burn a hole in for yourself, just a warning you should get ready to fight lots of enemies this cave is packed.
She then left and flew up higher.
With her warning I put myself on guard for any attacks but it was hard since it was dark and I had never fought before. As I walk deeper I kept hearing some high pitched sound I had activated my [mana detection] and [stealth] before entering and was straining all my senses to feel were the presence of any creature might be. After a few minutes the familiar chime sounded.
Acquired skill [presence detection]
As soon as I activated I felt despair. All around me on the ceiling thousands of bats were hanging above me, when I looked the ceiling was covered with glowing red eyes looking down here.
'Shit how did miss so many until now' I thought I instant gathered mana from around me, 'I need to get out quick, fighting in the dark would be bad against so many'.
With a single flap of my wings I was blasted through the air but with each flap, though to me it was a simple 'thump', to them it was like a bomb going off every last one began agitated and began flying after me but I had passed them before they could drop from the ceiling. After I escaped the cave I flew about a hundred meters before looking back. From the cave I could hear the thousands of wings flapping. A few seconds later, a huge wave of bats swarmed out of the cave, I panicked as they were coming straight at me, so I flew up. Flying up they reacted by splitting up into different directions, slowly smaller streams of bats split from the main. After a bit it felt like I was looking at a black river that made a net around me, it was constantly moving, I got worried as the opening out of this were getting shut since more bats were leaving the cave it got larger the streams.
'Damn this is bad, need to fight back' I though and drew close and inhaled then blasted my Fire Breath but it could only burn a few bats and had a short duration that I could breathe fire.
High above Goliath kept watching the hatchling fight to survive.
'Well now, he really chose a good one, Devil bats and he was able to piss them all off, unless he learns quickly I’ll have to intervene' she thought as she watch not only her disciples but the others.
'Oh that one seems to have learn it himself I wonder if Kira can take his first step today'
Inside the bat cage, I had been shooting fire at one spot which made the bats avoid it while I fired, it was then that I saw far away a swarm of birds were fighting a hatchling like me, I saw the dragon brake away fast gathering mana before turning around, 'is going to the same as me' I thought. Because of my [Mana Detection] I could somewhat see his aura, it was as he inhaled that I saw something strange, his aura split down the middle and turned into to orbs inside his body then they merged into a bigger one which is when he exhaled just like how I did [fire breath] but his was different, instead of a straight flame shooting a few meters, a torrent of fire spread out wide and far until it hit the tree.
'That wasn’t [Fire Breath], was that [Dragons Breath], so it’s not just a strong version of it, it looked like a mix of two spells' I was then that it clicked in my head. 'Of course, if I mix fire and air the fire becomes strong why didn’t I think of that?'
Figuring out the trick I gathered enough mana for both spells then began forming both inside me, which wasn’t that hard, but making them both mix was the problem after they were formed. On my first try I only got a slightly stronger fire breath, the second try it failed completely resulting in only air came out it was the third time when I was near giving up because it I was getting tired it worked, though I didn’t do anything, I just left the two near each other and they mixed naturally.
After the two were almost completely fused I inhaled deeply and exhaled towards the entrance of the cave were bats entered and left, what left my mouth, from my point of view was far stronger than the other dragon I had watched, it was immense and as it hit the wall of bats it and scorched them, fire began to run down the bat streams as the bats kept flying together which helped to spread the fire. After a few seconds the [Dragons breathe] ended and I was as tired as when I chanced Goliath. As more bats began to die I caught one in the air and began to eat while flying there, with each mouthful I could feel my strength coming back.
Acquired trait [Spell Fusion], Racial Skill [Dragons Breath]
I smiled when I heard I obtained [Dragons Breath] but I need lots of training to control my power so I don’t get tired in the middle of battle. When I looked around I saw quite a few unburnt bats left, at least two thirds were left but none are leaving the cave anymore. After finishing the bat, I had regained a bit of strength back. 'Alright lets finish this in the next attack' I quickly darted at the remaining swarm and shot them with weak fire breaths, after some time of agitating them they were all back in one main wave flying after me, as I flew away I kept gathering mana, separated the two spells then as they fused I turned and blasted them with another [Dragons Breath] but this time I caught them all. I stayed floating there and watched them as they gave death cries before gravity took hold of them, and then I headed to my newly claimed cave. As soon as I landed Goliath appeared.
Goliath: not bad, of this year’s group you definitely have one of the strongest breath attacks; train it though the more control the better.
Kira: yes master, is their going to be anything else today.
Goliath: no today you’re free to do as you like.
I nodded the walked inside, I quickly sensed the some bats and made sure to burn them, made a nice food stock so I at least know I won’t starve, during the time I was cleaning out the cave I also gained [Night Vison] because my eyes had to get used to the sudden darkness after my breath attacks, now I can see in the cave as if it was lit up.
When I reached the end of the cave I used my breath to widen it until a large chamber was made, ‘wow just like Goliath said the tree doesn’t catch fire but still turns to ash when hit with fire quite convenient’, then I stacked all the bats I had roasted in one corner then went to sleep.
The next morning I woke up to the roaring of dragons coming from outside, even with how far in I am I still hear it.
‘Damn what’s with all the roaring’ I complained getting up and snacking on a few bats before going out.
As I walked through the tunnel I sensed someone land at my caves entrance, it was small about my size, as I continued walking I kept track as he entered on his guard.
I walked on guard as well until I was within view.
Kira: hey what are you doing in my cave?
Dragon: oh it’s taken already, I didn’t know, I just arrived here and was instructed to find a cave to live in.
Kira: well try a different one and be careful they are filled with animals.
At that he flew out of my cave but I continued walking until I reached the entrance.
Outside unlike yesterday was filled with hundreds of dragon’s hatchlings of my own size; every now and then I would see one surrounded by group of animals which were the inhabitants of the caves.
Goliath: morning hatchling, seems you had an intruder today, you should mark your cave so others know it’s taken
Kira: mark it how?
Goliath: use your [Dragon Breathe] to smooth the walls near the entrance first then I will teach you how to draw the magic circle for the barrier, it will keep anyone you don’t know from entering your cave.
I followed her instructions and blasted my breath until all the walls down into about two meters in were nice and smooth as if someone took a knife and carefully carved it out like so. Then for the next two ours she schooled me in the art of magic circle formations and showed me what I had to draw, doing so I carved four similar circles, one on the ceiling on the floor, and one on each wall.
Goliath put her head near the entrance and examined all four then smiled.
Goliath: these should do fine now go to each one and placing your hand at its center pour mana in to it until it glows.
I did as she ordered and like she said with each one after a few seconds they began glowing. I went one at a time and finished with the one on the ceiling as I finished a new circle formation appeared in the air right in the middle of the four it was like the others with only difference being that at the center there was an image of a dragons face while the carvings were just plane, after a bit it vanished.
Goliath: that should do it no one but you or your friends can enter it and it will remain as long as you consider this cave your home, now let’s go I have hunting, magic and combat lessons you need to start today and I’m not letting you rest until they are done.
Her commanding tone reinforced her statement but I was already determined to complete the training as fast as possible.
***
At Melody’s camp her house had been complete, though David took pity and gave her hands on tips while helping her so they finished before night.
The morning after it was done he woke Melody a bit before dawn
David: ok melody here this is for your combat training’ he said handing her a bow, a quiver of arrows, a sword and dagger, ‘now go into the forest and hunt animals and bring their pelts we need bedding and animal fur is the best’
She stood their speechless at his unreasonable order.
Melody: um David, are you going to make me do things first before teaching me how to do it right every time?
As she said it his face distorted like someone stabbed him.
‘Damn that was quick, was hoping to see what she could do without proper teachings first’
His idea was like the idea of dropping a bird from a high place and it has to learn to fly or die.
David: um no I just want to see what you know before thinking of what to teach you.
Melody: but doesn’t that put me in danger of dying if I have to hunt without any training.
Again her words stabbed David, as he didn’t think about that
David: I guess you’re right, I’ll show you how to skin animals and how to use the bow, but the sword you see to know so that all,’ he said sulking from his own lack of awareness of danger for his disciple.
He dedicated the morning to training her how to properly fire the bow then showed how to skin an animal from some that were left as well as some tracking tips. She left to hunt afternoon after eating, it didn’t take long before she found some tracks which she followed. She followed them for about five minutes before reaching a river, in the river was a large brown bear. She paled a bit but didn’t back off.
‘I’m a dragon trainer now, I can’t be dependent on Kira to get my own food, but how will I take it down’ she stayed crouched then pulled her bow and an arrow, ‘I wonder if this will work it might agitate him, I should be careful so let make this stronger’
As she though a bit she nocked the arrow on the string then began pouring mana around the arrow then pulling it like she was taught, she aimed while focusing the mana around the shaft and making a sharp blade around the tip then let it loose. The arrow flew with frightening power and hit the right shoulder of the bear and dug into his body and out the other. She quickly prepared the arrow again as the bear roared in agony. When it stood on its hind legs she let loose the second arrow which hit next the arm and traveled through the chest damaging his organs. After the second arrow he stood there for a few seconds before falling lifeless.
Melody: what, was it supposed to be this easy, I thought I would be attacked as soon as the arrow hit, maybe it was the mana that did more damage, well I did it lets get that fur.
She ran over with her sword drawn being cautious but when she confirmed it was dead she pulled the dagger and began the butchering process, she removed the hide first then separated a large amount of the meat as well as the claws and teeth, storing it then washed the blood off before hiding in the bushes and waited.
After a few hours she had been able to hunt down another bear and four wolves before heading back.
Melody: hey David I did it, I was able to catch some animals her look.
She pulled out the fur of the animals she had skinned. David had to hide his surprise when he saw bear hide in the mix and not a scratch on the girl.
David: melody how did you hunt the bear and wolves
Melody: well at first I found the first bear and killed it after shooting it with arrows covered in mana, after that I skinned it took lots of its meat then left the rest so it attracted the other animals then repeated the same thing.
She was wearing a big smile on her face at her accomplishment.
‘I think I should give her a reward not only for hunting but it seems she started moving on from her trauma after our little game’
He took the fur she had brought then told her to train with her sword. He walked over to the wood and took some logs then began carving. After an hour he had made a frame for a bed then took it inside her house and set it in her room. He then cleaned all the fur of blood and closed any holes that were on it and finally put them on the bed frame.
When he finished the sun was starting to set so he made food, then went to sleep.
In the morning she was in a much better mood then the previous day since she had a good night sleep.
David: ok now that you’ve had a taste of hunting as well as used magic while hunting we will start with intense sword training because the next time you hunt you won’t have the bow with you.
He smiled evilly at her which made her shiver thinking of fighting a bear with only a sword.
Melody: ok let’s get started I don’t want to be a burden for Kira I’ll take whatever you through at me.
David: good, I was hoping you would say that’, he then pulled out two wooden swords and through one at her, ‘shall we’ getting into a stance, she also readied herself.
