《Alternate Dreams》Dream 1

Sleep is very important, we need it to de-stress and re-engergize each morning. Sleeping is the time of dreams and rest. If you go to long without sleep you begin making mistakes and if you last too long you die. Some people go by this: Sleeping is my drug, my bed is my dealer and my alarm clock is the police. Without a proper night sleep most days start off terribly.
Eian hated noise early in the mornings, especially while he slept. Chatter. Chatter. He did his best to ignore them, by covering his ear with his arm. Eian was either dreaming that he was on the damp floor, or he must have fallen sometime during the night. Someone lightly shook him awake and he grudgingly opened one eye, then quickly opened the other, shocked at what he saw. Staring down at him with concern was an athletic young man with dark hair.
"Hey, you okay man?" - Dark Haired Stranger looked into his eyes with worry.
"FUCK!?! Who the hell are you?"- Eian jolted and scrambled away from the stranger.
To say Eian was confused was the greatest understatement of all time. Who was this guy, and why was he waking him in the middle of the night in his house? A burglar? He was tall probably a few inches shy of six feet, with toned-muscles clearly showing. He looked white but, sported a slight tan along with dark hair, dark eyes and a casual grey shirt and a long sports-pants.
A quick scan of his surroundings however, told him he wasn't in his house anymore. His worry grew to a greater intensity. This was clearly a cave of some sort, or some sort of creepy underdeveloped basement. Did this guy abduct him for some reason? He wasn't anyone important, so that didn't make any sense, he was pretty broke.
"I'm Alex, well Alexander Faber if you want to be sure, and pleeeeease don't freak out." Alex smiled and lifted his hands placatingly, as if to a child.
All the while he was backing away slowly from Eian.
"Why the fuck should I not freak out! Who are you?! What do you want with me and why?!" Eian grit his teeth angrily, found his backbone and began winding himself up to attack this 'Alex' guy.

"Hey! Hey! Please calm down your freaking me out! Someone might come back to get us here!" - A Girl's voice shrilled almost hysterically behind him.
Eian's eyes almost flew out of his eyes sockets in shock.
"Yes, please. Let's get to what's important and make a plan." A moment later a second girl's steady voice was also behind him.
Turning to look behind him Eian took note of the two girls situated behind him. One was a slender attractive girl that gave off a rich white girl vibe. She sported loose blonde hair, had blue eyes, wore fancy earrings, a bracelet on her arm, a fancy blue top and short-black skirt. All-in-all she looked like the ring leader of those cliche girl-groups you always see in high-schools.
Normally Eian would instictively rolled his eyes at the sight.
The other was a short curvy girl whom gave off a librarian vibe. She wore big glasses, she had her black hair pony-tailed, possessed light-brown eyes, a white long dress-shirt and a black pants the fell below her knees. Eian was now a jumble of confused emotions and thoughts. Why was he here? In a dark eerie cave with these three people?
'What important matters?' Eian frowned and all sorts of crazy scenario's passed through his mind.
Everything from a cannibalistic cult to a super secret military experimental facilty breezed through his head. Preferably the latter or better something safer and less crazy.
Upon closer inspection the cave floor was damp, but more or less even. There were a few burning long-torches lining the wall. Various weird colored mushrooms littered the area casting a litany of colors, though the torches over-whelmed them. There was no furniture of any sort and the cave or basement was roughly squared in shape. There was only one tunnel exit, with no door. The ceiling was bare and almost even.
"If you've relaxed now. I can tell you that I didn't bring you here man. None of us did for that matter." Alex scratched the back of his neck, then included the girls and himself with a hand wave.
"Then who did and why should I believe anything you say?" Eian narrowed his eyes and spoke slowly as he was trying to work through his growing rage.

"I don't know man, but I'd hoped you would know something. The girls say they don't know either and Jessica, that's the blonde by the way, clogged me on the face when I woke her, so I'm glad you didn't do that." Alexander knit his brow, while nursing his jaw.
"Hey! I said I'm sorry! And what the hell did you expect would happen?! A fucking guy wakes a girl up in a dark cave, gods know where. HOW did you expect me to react?." Jessica crossed her arms and pouted.
She appeared to be a mixture of regret and anger.
"Hi, I'm Sarah and I'd like to say 'it's nice to meet you', but I'm still not sure what to make of all this yet." Said the Dark haired glasses girl, while pushing her glasses back one handed.
It took a while for everyone to get on the same page. Appearently all of them had no idea how they got here or where this place was. Alex was the first to wake and he took it upon himself to wake everyone else to get their heads together. Alex was from Arizona, while Jessica was from Florida, Sarah was from Canada and Eian himself told them he was from Honduras, but migrated to the USA at a young age and currently lived in California.
"Okay what are we gonna do now? I'm not really comfy here and I wanna get home as soon as I can, preferably intact and sane." Eian kept looking about for clues, since he hadn't seen any captors.
"Well its been about Half an hour since I woke up man and nobody has come for us yet. I say lets go check out whats happening outside. Hopefully this is all some big misunderstanding." Alex grimanced and he didn't sound too sure of the idea.
The girls agreed saying there was nothing to be had waiting about. Alex and Eian both went foward after each grabbing a torch from off the wall with the girls slightly behind them. The only exit was wide enough for both of them to walk comfortably and not bump into each other while swinging their torch if anything happened. The exit did not widen and they kept going slowly afraid of whatever the limited darkness held. The cave mushrooms gave the whole situation a weird vibe.
"Pretty creepy here huh? So dark, no sound and it seems we are acutally descending instead of going up" Eian walked stiffly and with caution while feeling very off put by the whole situation.
"Yeah man. I'd like to say we'll be alright and take care of it together. This whole place is weird and I can barely see." Alex scratched the back of his neck.
He was far more physically fit than Eian, though he didn't fault him. A single gun or knife and muscles won't matter.
"Shut up and keep going this has to lead somewhere since there wasnt any other exit in that cave." Jessica said with a slight tremor in her voice.
"Guys try to remain calm. Breathe slowly through your nose and exhale through your mouths. Don't let your heart rate go up or you'll mentally fatigue yourself. Jessica is right this has to lead somewhere." Sarah said calmly with no overt signs of distress.
Eian tried doing as Sarah said and found it actually helped calm him, not fully but beggers can't be choosers. The cave descended slowly and it seemed an eternity to Eian and he was begining to worry about what they would do once the torchs went out and had to rely soley on natural mushroom light. Musingly he began to wonder about food and water. Eian quickly abandoned his train of thought, when he noticed something weird. A shuffling and chittering sound was just up ahead, where the tunnel curved. Eian placed his hand on Alexs shoulder and did a quick heads up notion with his head.
"You hear that?" Eian felt fear grip his stomach, and whispered on a low voice.
Everyone stopped for a breath and listened in.
"Yeah.... Well the sooner we do this, the faster we can get out. On two, your count dude." Alex flexed his back and motioned for the girls to stay behind the curve.
"Okay.....one.... TWO!" Eian licked his lips, as they both readied themselves, then charged.

I don't update it as often as I should, but there is a fair amount of content there already. It also contains a page with all the fanart, fan translations, audio books and the like - you can reach it directly by clicking this link. I have a patreon account for those kind people that want to give me money. It also contains info for those who want to donate via paypal. The story was originally posted on fictionpress, back in 2011. When I reached chapter 91, I started uploading the story to RoyalRoad, one chapter per day. The story will continue to be updated on fictionpress as well as here, and can be reached by clicking on this link if somebody is interested, though at this point there is nothing there that isn't also on RoyalRoad. ********************************** The cover you see on the side has been made by a fellow RoyalRoad user Sydorow. Beast
A threat to the galaxy has come from another, and the Union of intelligent life will go to any length to stop it. Military Quarantine has held for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Traders, merchants, colonists, and Pirates live risky lives along the fringes as the politics from the inner systems fail to see the larger threats beyond their borders. A lone human finds himself far from home with no memories to how he arrived. A failing Trade vessel plays on a desperate gamble, while a malicious parasite searches for a suitable host. ............................................. Author's note: Beast is a story that I wrote a long, long time ago. Some of you might have read it then, back when it was posted on reddit over at r/HFY. It was my first webfiction and made in the spirit of that subreddit's "genre" of humanity being awesome. But, it is also a story that has bothered me a little bit. Just like most new writers tend to do, I made mistakes and errors that feel painful to reread. A Space Opera will be a Space Opera, but I had prose that makes present-me cringe. Still, at the same time, the story is still very much a tale I've never given up on. It was my first adventure into fiction: Beast was a crazy adventure with bodysnatching aliens, galactic war, threats from across the universe... Posting this story here is a way to try and redeem myself a bit. I won't call it a complete rewrite, because it's not, but I have wanted to go through and correct some of the major issues Beast has for a long time and put it somewhere more accessible to read (instead of as posts/comments on reddit) and I figure that now is as good a time as any. Additional corrections you might notice are welcome.
