Chapter 3: Work as You Know It?

After 3 days of traveling Requiem and Shibo finally arrived. The travel was gruesome for Requiem because he lacked the riding skill he fell many times off the horse, but thanks to this he gained the skill after too many trials and errors. Shibo got off his horse and walked to a building that looked like a storage room. He got some rations and quickly ordered Requiem to follow.

"Eat this and rest for a while after we go up the mountain." Shibo handed some grilled meat to him as they took a sit near the cut timber.

Requiem was right about Shibos job he really was a lumberjack. The mountain was covered with large trees the size of buildings it was really a sight to behold.

"Sir, whats the name of this mountain?"

Shibo looked at him, "Mount Majesty and you dont have to call me sir my names just fine."

Nodding Requiem looked at the sight with eyes filled with wonder. He ate his meal as Shibo explained the situation to him. Shibo usually comes to town only when he needed help with his orders, he cant do everything by himself so he usually recruits someone and orders them around. A new castle is being built so he had to finish the orders and this is the reason why he needed help. Usually he can do it by himself but the king who ordered the timber gave a time limit so he went to town.

Requiem was gawking at the quest. This types of quests give good rewards. He smiled to himself and nodded to Shibo.

"Lets go Requiem we have a quota to fulfill." Shibo walked towards the path at the back of the house. "By the way did you buy a weapon?"

Equipping the bastard sword he grinned at Shibo, "Is this okay?"

Swinging the sword sideways he nearly let go of it. The sheer weight of the sword was kind of a problem but Requiem knew that ones he gains the skill two handed sword mastery he can swing to sword more easily.

"Not a bad choice but you have to train well in order for you to be efficient in using the sword, your lucky I can teach you some things about using two handed weapons." Shibo explained to him.

As they went to up the mountain Requiem was having a hard time following Shibo. The weight of the sword and no rest affected his body. After another hour he gained his first stat point in the game.

Requiem smiled at his discovery. He knew that there is a limit to how much bonus stats he can gain as a beginner so every point he got counts. This only made him more excited about what he can gain in this quest. As Shibo stopped near a clearing he took out his axe and started hitting a giant tree. Requiem was amazed at how Shibo worked, he only didnt pick a good tree but also how he used his body well with every strike. He didnt do any useless movements he only used the precise amount with every strike. He looked so awesome in Requiem's eyes. 'A master at what he does.'

After half an hour the giant tree was on the ground. Shibo gestured that Requiem start to cut of the branches as he moves unto the next tree.

Requiem stood near the fallen tree and started to hit it, with every strike he was easily fatigued but he knew this is a like any other job he did. He precisely striked the same spot. This continued with every other tree his master cut down after 4 hours another ding sounded.

He smiled at this, with an ordinary sword the time needed to gain a stat would be doubled but with his giant sword he needed only half the time to generate a stat.

After a couple more hours the next stat to gain +1 was agility. It took more time to gain a plus stat to agility because of his sword. Still he was happy with his progress. Requiem wondered how long does he need to gain the skill two handed mastery.

Shibo smiled at him and he knew that he gained the mastery skill. 'This kid has guts, using a siege weapon like that he didnt give up at all. He is suited for that job but its still to early to tell. Lets just see for now.'

Taking a break Requiem faced another delimma. He's taking to much time resting and he knew why. The lack of proper training, yes he handled the sword with more ease now but he still lacked in other departments. An example was his low agility he doesnt strike fast but thanks to his gained strength stats he can lift the sword with no problem. Looking at Shibo who never took a break he observed him more, Requiem has been doing this for the past days. What a good way to learn than to watch how the masters do it right?

Requiem intently watched Shibo, he noticed that Shibo's breathing has a pattern and with every strike Shibo does he seems to save more energy. The stance Shibo uses also seems to help him lessen the fatigue caused to his body.

Eating a piece of bread Requiem quietly watched Shibo because he knew that you cant learn this skills without a master teaching them. Shibo stopped hitting the trunk and walked towards him.

Shibo looked surprised hearing the word master. He smiled and patted Requiem's shoulder, "I can teach you if you want but I don't like slackers. I want you to train more because you show some promise."

Requiem's eyes shined and nodded to Shibo, "yes master I wont disappoint you."

"Okay now you need this skills. This are basic skills its up to you to learn and develop your own. As you grow stronger you will find them useful with the upgraded effects."

Requiem was smiling like an idiot, he stumbled upon a unique skill that evolves depending on the user. Like in some books about martial arts the apprentice trains and further develops the techniques the master taught him. It was like Requiem won the lottery.

"This skill will help you in many ways, the breathing and stance can help your body lessen the fatigue it takes. It depends upon you if you will further develop it to suit your character." Shibo said and he returned to his work.

'OMG!' Requiem was ecstatic with his new skills. The stance combined with the breathing technique causes the user to have a state where you can use your body to its maximum capabilities but with only a hundred mana he can use the skill in a limited time but as he trains and increases his other stats Requiem knew that this will be an over powered skill. 'The skills combined creates a skill on its own. The duration sucks but its still in the beginner level just imagine how its gonna become if mastered.' Requiem never imagined this kind of thing happening. He can use the 3rd skill as long as he activates the 2 skills and with the cooldown even if it increases its no problem as long as he has mana he can use it again and again.

'What should I rename the skill? Maybe bankai like in bleach or gear 3rd like in one piece or senin mode like in naruto or over soul like in shaman king. Holy Sh¡t there's so many possibilities.' (this are only examples taken from animes lol) Requiem was having a debate with himself in his mind.

He wanted a kickass name for his skill then it hit him. "Requiem of Souls."( I was thinking of using Omnislash because im gonna use this skill as a main attack skill, also yes its kinda op but it aslo has its limits not like the other fan fics ive read that has too much op skills and stats im not going that way)

Requiem went back to hitting the fallen trunk, with his new skills he can gain the bonus stats faster. After a while Shibo stopped to repair his axe then he noticed that Requiem's weapon was becoming dull but if he teaches Requiem the repair skill with only a beginner level he will surely destroy his weapon because it lowers durability.

Suddenly, "Master can you please teach me the repair skill?" The young man asked him. 'He really shows promise, he adapts anything that he sees and learn fast.'

"I can but if you use it on your weapon now the durability will start to decrease because of the skills level and right now I really need you here, you dont want to go to town and back again just to buy a new sword right? Let me repair your weapon first, later you can train your repair skill with other things and when it hits level 5 you can start using it on your sword." Shibo explained.

Requiem handed his sword, its true that he can use it on his weapon if he learn the skill but like his master said it decreases the durability and right now that they need to fulfill the quota, he cant slack off. They continued their work till midnight.

After the first day Requiem looked at his progress, all in all he gained 6 strength, 9 vitality and 4 agility. The skills he learned was Sleeping Forest B & S ( breathing and stance ) at beginner lvl 1 (78%) his two handed sword mastery at beginner lvl 1 (98%) Observation skill at beginner lvl 2 and his most valued skill Requiem of Souls which increases as the breathing and stance techniques levels up. He knows that when the bonus stats he gains surpass 15 it will take more time to gain them, the skills only needs to be used more to gain better rewards from them.

In the last game Requiem played he didn't have much time to play like other people but when he played he trained his skills mastery. The difference showed in the long run, his friends had higher levels than him but when it came to skills his was way better and pawned them in pvp. He knew his priorities and that's why he will do his best to train the skills.

Logging in Requiem saw Shibo gathering many types of things that needed repair, Shibo gestured him to come.

Requiem used the repair skill on all the items Shibo handed to him once repaired Shibo will hit it with a hammer and give it to Requiem again. As daybreak came Shibo and Requiem went to the mountain again.

The never ending process of hitting trees continued as usual. Requiem steadily gained stats along the way and his skill proficiency went up steadily. After 8 hours of doing the process the sound that made him smile sounded again.

Due to you hitting the trunk in a continued process you generated the stat. You will be very determined in doing something. You will never give up. You cant put points in this stat it will spontaneously gain points depending on the users actions in game.

The messages popping up caused Requiem to work harder he didnt want to waste time in order for him to finish his goal in attaining the bonus stat points for a beginner.

His routine continued for a week the dead line was nearing its end and the required order isnt done yet. Shibo increased their work rate it benefitted Requiem that this job turned to a one of a kind of training.

Shibo saw how determined Requiem was. He liked hard working people and with his apprentice, he saw how talented the kid was. 'He really never fails to amaze me. Pepe wasnt wrong when he said this kid was right for the job.' He made up his mind to push Requiem to that path.

After another week the needed order was finished at last. Requiem was nearing the max bonus points also. The restriction time has a week to end and he was glad that he can accomplish his goal. Now all he needed was to find a job that suited his style.

Shibo traveled to the kings palace and the time to travel back in forth was exactly 1 week. Requiem decided to use this week to fulfill his goal. Taking some rations which will last a week he headed up the mountain, Shibo ordered him to work on the last trees near the clearing.

Requiem complied to his masters order and started to strike the tree infront him. He became excited knowing that he will finish his goal. Every strike he increased his speed, he remembered the first day he striked a trunk his master cut down. He took too much time just to finish one tree now with his gained stats and skills he easily took down one tree.

This continued for 5 more days. His eyes shined with determination. If not for the pop up messages he would have not the will to continue.
