《Endless Expanse Online》Chapter 24- The Evil of Man

When Smitt saw his Captain, he knew immediately something was wrong. John was enraged and disgusted by what he knew. Jimmy had transferred to the Dragonfly with the two Traveler prisoners as soon as they met up at point Alpha before jumping out of the Duniden System. Jimmy had told John everything he saw and had shown him the raw footage of all the infected victoms dead either of the biological pathogen or had their throats slit before they could have been freed. The only saving grace was neither player could leave, they were official POWs of a war that had started. It still did nothing to cool Johns temper though, he wanted to put a gun to their heads and pull the trigger but if he did they would just respawn in Imperial Space and be free to do it all over again. The only punishment he really could administer to them is to imprison them, and not touch a hair on their heads, so they had no excuse to file with the Devs.
"Commander, we captured 11 Scientists, and three IntelDiv Operatives between the two Black-Ops bases. Two of the scientists are Travelers, they are not to be abused in any way. They are to be given three meals a day and allowed to shower every three days. They are to be confined to prison cells and never allowed to leave them, Douglas and Kara do you two understand. MECHs are the only interaction they will receive for now. These collars will prevent them from dying like other travelers and showing up some place else. They are War Criminals, but if we abuse them they can access their abilities as travelers and leave. Am i understood??" All three nodded in under standing. "Good the rest are locals, follow the same guidelines as last time, isolate, sleep deprivation, you know the drill. Eventually the locals will be turned over to the people they abused and pay for their crimes. Right now though we need what is in their heads. Smitt, we will have a council meeting in 30 minutes, you have that long to get them settled, DISMISSED." with that John strode off to his office alone.

20 minutes later, John stared out at the stars. His office was sealed and no one was allowed in, Jeeves silently appeared beside him. "John...people are starting to get worried. The Doctors of Allcorp are thinking this is putting too much of a strain on your mind and body. They think that if they don't pull you out that it could have a negative effect on your treatment." Before he could continue your John cut in, "NO!! I am not going anywhere Jeeves. The last couple days, what we learned, it effected me yes. I will learn and cope though. I have responsibilities to these people, and I am not." Jeeves interrupted John now "This is not real John, this is all fake. It is a game and not reality."
John took a deep breath before responding. "Reality is defined by what we can see, taste, touch, smell, and feel with our heart and soul. This might not be my reality but it is a reality. Those digital beings that they killed with the experiments, can you snap your fingers and bring them back...no because in this reality they died horrible deaths. All of them are real Jeeves, you are real, it doesn't matter if its digital or biological Jeeves and the people of this reality need help. I might not be the best choice but somehow I am the one that ended up in this situation, and I am not going to turn my back on them just because it might help myself in the long run. So Jeeves, are you going to help me or not?"
Ten minutes later John strode into the Council chamber, everyone was present including Jimmy and Natalie "Thank you all for coming. The raids in the Proxima System and Duniden System were complete successes. We captured 11 Scientists and 3 IntedDiv Operators, two of the Scientists are Travelers. What you will be receiving is a recording of the raid of the facility in the Duniden system. I want you all to watch it, Kara and Douglas, I want all the recruits to see the video by the end of the day. Miles you will receive a copy of all the data and biological samples from the facility. I want you to have R&D to work on a cure for what they worked on there. This is your highest priority. I expect an update within a week with a timetable by then. Natalie, I want you to take a look at the data and see if you can find out what part Travelers played in that place. You are also in charge of interrogation of them if you feel up to it. We have very strict rules on how we can handle them, if we have any wiggle rum I think you can find it." Natalie had a feral smile on her face at Johns comment. "I plan to forward the medical data and recordings to Aran'Sul, so he can get the information to the proper people. So Miles you will not be the only people working on a cure. Any questions or concerns?"

"The two Travelers, can we post on the Forums about what they did. Let people know that they specifically are monsters that were creating a Bio-Weapon that was being designed to commit genocide." Pride asked. John looked at him before shaking his head "Not them specifically no. We can release information that IntelDiv with the support of the Admirals Board was working on a Bio-Weapon intended to Genocide a whole people, but we cannot say that these two specific people were involved. We can only generalize when it concerns other Travelers, if they had been a part of an Alliance it would be a different story. We could name the Alliance then. Also I want to wait three days before we release any information, then let it out. I want to see if we got any leaks. Anything else.... No. Dismissed people." with that, John left to go tell Aran'Sul what had happened.
Thirty minutes later John finally had him on the Comms "My friend, you look so sad, what has happened? Have the Imperials found your location?" Aran'Sul asked John. "No my friend, as far as I am aware our location is still a secret. I have called to tell you that we recently raided an Imperial Black site that was an R&D facility developing a Biological weapon. The weapon was being designed to exterminate a race and had gone as far as testing on living beings. 50 people were found dead at the site before we managed to raid it. I am filled with both hate for what happened and discussed in my own people. I am going to send you a burst transmission with all the medical data and the recordings of our raid on the facility. Can you get word to the Thon. I have never had dealings with them and I have never encountered them before, so I would not place this burden on you unless I had no choice." John told Aran'Sul.
"The are almost Pacifists, and they are almost as Technologically advanced as the Imperium. They have never started a War with their neighbors, but they have never shy awayed either. Very odd people. A lot of governments use them as mediators. They are trusted and well liked, I have few contacts within their Government but I will forward the information to all of them. I will try to protect your anonymity as much as I can, but I am sure they will want to know where the information came from." Aran'Sul told John "I will trust in your discretion on whom you tell and if they want a face-to-face meeting I hope you will be willing to host. Now, I have much work to do. Goodbye my friend." with that John cut the transmission.

Wildling
Blurb: Silas--a scavenger living off the ruins of humanity--has spent his entire life fighting tooth and nail to provide for himself and his crew. But when a scavenging run goes awry and he's snatched up by an android patrol, he finds himself thrown into a cage and priced to sell as a pet. And when a suitor comes calling, he fears the worst: that he'll be turned into a Domestic, a human lapdog brainwashed into total obedience. Instead, he discovers an equally disturbing truth: that the creatures who stole his world have created a videogame the likes of which Earth has never seen; a sprawling, game-like theme park where humans are the Avatars and androids are the players who control them. And to make matters worse, his android guide is as hopeless as they come, having gotten all of her previous Avatars killed in record time. So if Silas wants to regain his freedom, he'll not only have to fight his way through a world that was specifically designed to murder him in brutal fashion--he'll also have to convince his android guide that he should be the one calling the shots. FAQS: Q: Who are you, handsome stranger? A: I'm Kyle Kirrin, the author of Shadeslinger, book 1 of The Ripple System, published by Portal Books, and I write crunchy LitRPG. Q: What is Wildling? And is it complete? A: Wildling is a crunchy LitRPG mash up of Fantasy and Science Fiction. And yup, Wildling is already complete at 64 chapters, or about 120,000 thousand words. You're looking at something like a third draft here--it's fairly polished, but it hasn't been picked over by a copy editor yet nor has my developmental editor seen it. Q: Upload schedule? A: 5 initial chapters today (2/15/2021) and one chapter a day for the next month. After that I'll probably slow down to 2 or 3 chapters a week until the story is complete. Q: How crunchy is it? A: It's pretty crunchy. I'd put it on the same tier as Ascend/The Land/RSSG, but it might be a bit crunchier than those three? Q: Is this the first book in a series or a web novel or what? And what are your plans for it? A: It's currently a standalone with series potential. Full disclosure: this story may head the way of my publisher eventually, but will be available on RR for quite a while no matter what. Likely several months after it's complete with plenty of warning before/if it's taken down. Q: What kind of build does the MC create? A: Sword and board! Q: Crafting? A: Plenty! Crafting isn't as center stage as it is in The Way of the Shaman, but it's close. Q: Base building? A: Two fully separate, distinct bases, both of which play a major role in the story. Q: VRMMO? Portal? Reincarnation or what? A: This one's a bit tricky. Basically an advanced race has created a game-like world that closely resembles a theme park. Think Westworld but with copious amounts of loot. And the MC has to fight his way through that to earn his freedom. Q: Permadeath? A: Nope! The MC gets 3 lives to play through the entirety of the game world, and death is extremely punishing, but not fatal. Q: Harem? Or romance? A: No and no. Q: Cursing? Blood? A: Quite a bit of cursing, yeah. There's blood, too, but it's not a gory book by any means. Q: How can I support? A: Instead of a Patreon/donations etc, I'd ask that you consider giving my debut LitRPG Shadeslinger a chance. It's free on Kindle Unlimited and the audio is already out narrated by Travis Baldree. It's an epic fantasy VRMMO where the main character gets 3 days of exclusive access to a new game plus a snarky, talking axe to guide him through it in exchange for agreeing to become the target of a serverwide manhunt once the Head Start period ends. Q: How's it similar to Wildling? And how's it different? A. The crunch level is very similar, but Shadeslinger is a much lighter, epic fantasy take on the genre. It's also VRMMO, but without any real world components aside from the first chapter. The MC is very different--he comes off as a bit of a jerk early on and can take a bit to warm up to, especially before his backstory is revealed--but he's also got a talking axe that constantly puts him in his place. Shadeslinger's a much more humorous story in general, and it's a great deal more polished as well. Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy Wildling!
