《The undead who yearned for life》55-The third circle
Advertisement
Sorry, but I made an error in the previous chapter, Jack evolved only 4 times by using levels, so in total 400 levels and stats, I don't know what came to me when I added the 2 in front of 400, maybe I was sleeping.
Ah, when he asked to be revived it is intended as an undead, the God of the Underworld can't give him a living body.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Only half of a day passed and I was able to regain control over my body, is this because my intelligence and wisdom rose by a third? Same thing goes for the comprehension stat.
Hopefully I'll find the person I'm searching for here, from the notes of the ancestor, the first three circles are populated by intelligent undead, but they vary in power.
In the third layer there are what he called ants or trash, that for someone like him is the worst insult as he called weak humans walking blood bags.
Here is where weak evil people are placed, and the few strong evil people present use them for amusement, then the strong evil people are weekly killed by an assassin that works for the God in exchange of him keeping his memories.
The society here is divided in a lot of little power zones; much like a kingdom the size of a city, and they're idiots enough to not understand that each time they die, their memory gets wiped out; that's because before someone revives, someone else already killed all the people who knew the one who died.
And with the assassin killing the most powerful people on regular basis, no one has the possibility of understanding it; the trial that needs to be passed in this circle is to not die at the hands of the assassin for two weeks, then you'll be sent to the 2nd circle.

The beings that I'm searching in this layer are 3: a dark elf that is rumored to have the God's eyes... what an exaggeration; he can see in the dark, he can clearly see an insect in a range of fifty kilometers and he can see mana, but that's everything he can do, the loli Goddess once said to me that she can everything that touches earth.
Now, what is the use of seeing mana? For everyone else it has no use except maybe training faster, but for me? With that and a bit of mana manipulation I can easily destroy most spell even before they can be cast, and even after being casted, I'm sure I would be able to hit the visible weak point of the spell or outright take possession of it.
The second being I'm searching for is a member of the wolf tribe demihumans, he possess the best sense of smell in thousand years, with that he could track a prey twenty kilometers away or sense the scent of the prey even after a moth as long as no rain came down.
I plan to study him to see if I can take that ability from him, the last one is a member of the feline tribe demihumans, more precisely what I would call a member of a puma tribe demihumans; he can hear everything in a range of two hundred meters, even the smallest air movement. (Puma's ears)
There are actually better choices from the three I mentioned, but they're either members of insect tribes demihumans or a rabbit tribe demihuman... I'll never transplant on myself rabbit ears, not even if they're a lot better than the ones I'm going to collect.
The others being wich possess something I'm interested in are in the next circle, so there's no need to worry about them as of now.

My problem in this moment is: how do I find my targets within two weeks? I also have to hide my face as the fire burned me and now is rather... unpleasant to look at me.
I resolved the problem by manipulating the shadows inside my hood so that only my eyes can be seen; it's the same trick used by the game character from which I copied the weapon and armor that I'm wearing.
Regarding my prey I know where their villages are, normally no one can get away from a city, unless you're exceedingly strong, so at worst I'll have to wait their respawn time (that for their strength is only three or four days).
I refuse to believe in two weeks I can't collect them all, at worst I'll let the assassin kill me, and after suffering the fire again I'll collect the remaining pieces.
Now, the nearest city that I need to reach is 2650 kilometers from me... At my max speed I should reach it in a bit more than an hour, but I can't keep up with that, so I'll need four to five hours to reach it safely.
My target is the eyes of the dark elf, he should be one of the guards of the king of that city; with his talent he can only become that at the best, as an advantage on one of the senses without sufficent strength to use it is useless, it can only be exploited by someone more powerful.
The ancestor was quite amused that it doesn't matter how many times things repeat themselves, they end up the same no matter which action are taken by the various parties.
Let the hunt begin.

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]

They are not meant to be the explicit focus of Unbind, but they will be recurring elements, albeit with scarce frequency. As a warning, there will be a note added before a chapter should it contain mature content. Updates will be posted every Sunday. As a fledgling writer, I appreciate any commentary!
