《Reincarnated as a Pillbug monster》Chapter VII: Let's train a little

Yawn~ That was a good sleep.
It's still weird, waking up in the sand and then eating that tasteless brown pillbugs meat...
But It's only been two days, so I can't expect to get used to this overnight.
Now that I think about it, that brown pillbugs meat was outside on this blazing sun for quite a while, yet it didn't spoil.
It only got drier and drier as the time go on.
I still don't know how long the meat can last before it spoils, but it's safe to assume that it can last for quite a while.
So I guess it's safe to leave yesterday's spoils just lying around for now, at least until we found a better shelter.
With temporary home set, food secured for a few days and even getting a companion to watch my back,
all that is left to do for now is to TRAIN !!!
While it's true that my skills will naturally rise up over time the more I hunt, It's still a good idea to train.
Before we inevitably run out of food in a few days,
I have come up with a plan to improve our skills so the next hunt may be safer and easier.
First thing first, I need to come up with a name for my new companion, it's inconvenient to have him without a name.
And so, after a whole night coming up with a fitting name,
I finally decided to give him a name...
"Leafy"
What ?
He's green and have leaves growing on top of his shell, It's a perfect name for him.
Screw the originality !!!
Not to mention, I have been calling him this, him that,
yet I don't really know what gender he is, or if he even have a gender in the first place,
so I chose a name that could somehow go either way...

Now that I think about it, I don't even know mine for that matter...
Haaa, okay. Let's change the subject before this gets weird...
Did you know that Leafy's leaves are not only full of water but also delicious?
D.don't ask how I found out about that...
Anyway, with the trivial matters out of the way, we can finally start our training regime !
First, in the morning we will have a spar to raise up our [Scythes] skill.
I still don't have [Skill Check] skill, but [Scythes] skill is probably about the toughness of our scythes.
Because they can break easily, It's important to raise up this skill.
Next, around midday, we will have a rolling race to raise our agility, [Rolling] skill and get used to this deadly sun.
While agility and [Rolling] skill are important to our survival,
especially since both of us rely on them almost all the time,
the most important of all is to get used to this hot sun.
While red and brown pillbugs have it easier because they are fire and earth types respectively,
green and blue ones are experiencing hell right now because they're type is really weak to this hellish environment.
Luckily, because I still don't have an attribute, I'm somewhere inbetween.
Still, If we don't get used to this environment, it can get very dangerous in the future.
Lastly, in the evening we will be digging around the nest to make a giant canal to raise our [Digging] skill
and to have some kind of defense against attacks.
It won't be much, but at least it will slow the enemy down.
If we have two meals a day, one before the spar and one before the digging,
not to mention eating only a bare minimum, the food should last us at least a week or so.
When we get low on food, we will go on a hunt and then repeat the process, only making the adjustment if need be.

Quite a solid plan, if I say so myself...
And now I can hear you screaming at me, how will this dumbass Leafy know what I have in mind ?
Well, you wouldn't be wrong to worry about that, after all, this plan heavily rely on Leafy's cooperation.
Not to mention, normal communication is impossible between us, since we can only produce some weird noises.
I was also worried at first, but turns out that all my worries were unnecessary...
You see, not only is Leafy happily imitating nearly my every move, we can also somehow feel whether the other party is hostile or friendly.
So even if I, for exemple, attack him, if there isn't any killing intent in my attack and I try not to hurt him too much,
Leafy will somehow understand my intention that I want to have a sparring match with him and then proceed to imitate me like always.
I know that this sound strangely too convenient, but I think this is just the result of us forming a party.
After all, I need to have a sense of who is a friend and who is a enemy to prevent a friendly fire,
because it's borderline impossible to distinguish those fuckers apart.
Everyone looks practically identical to one another...
With all that said and done, we are ready to finally start training !!!
.....
....
...
..
.
A few days later...
Early in the morning, just before the sun become unbearable, two pillbugs were having a sparring match.
One was gray in color, the other one was green, but was strangely lacking any leaves on his shell for some reason.
They were equally matched, using only their scythes to fight.
The green one attacked from the left, but the grey one easily dodged it with his right scythe.
However, that was just a diversion as green one quickly attacked with his right scythe from below.
The grey one expected this and quickly dodged greens attack with his right scythe that he used to block the first attack
and simultaneously attacked with his left scythe.
The green one tried to dodge it with his left scythe, but in the last second,
grey one redirected his left scythe to the green ones right scythe that he was already blocking
all the while using the other scythe to attack green ones left scythe that just tried to block his attack.
Surprised, the green one tried to move backwards because his head was completely unprotected, but it was already too late.
The grey one quickly used [Bash] skill, headbutting the green pillbug.
The grey ones attack force was strong enough to throw green pill bug on top of his shell.
With this, the sparring match ended with the grey pillbugs victory...
Again...
.....
Aaaahh, that was a good match.
Don't be so sad Leafy, you are improving more and more every day by imitating my attack pattern,
but this also makes it easier for me to predict your next attack...
Well anyway, there won't be any more training for today.
It's been five days since me and Leafy started training and I realized that we need a little bit of rest every once in a while.
Seeing how much food we have consumed until now, it's safe to say that we still have about three to four day before there's none left.
So then, tomorrow we will go on a hunt.
As for today, my [Status Check] skill finally leveled up and I acquired [Skill Check].
FINALLY.........
And now it's time to inspect our skills in great detail !!!

Points of Light - An Oral History of the Collapse
Humanity endures. The phrase is not only an informal slogan of the reformed United Nations, but a rallying cry the world over. Even in the face of extermination, we struggled, we fought, and we endured. But just how close did we actually come? In our darkest hour, how many steps separated our species from oblivion? And are we even safe now? Were the mistakes made by earlier generations really so obvious? Or are they only so blatent when we look back with the advantage of hindsight? If so, what horrors might be staring us in the face even now that no one has the foresight to prevent? Drawn from thousands of interviews, as well as uncorrupted contemporary recordings and source documentation dating back to the early 2000s; Points of Light is a definative look at the last half century of upheaval, prosperity and carnage. It tells the tale of what happened, how it happened, who was responsible and most importantly, what we might be able to do to prevent it from happening again. This is a rewrite of a previously started fiction under a pen-name. Chapters will be updated every two days at 6:00 EST.
