《Reincarnated as a Pillbug monster》Chapter VI: A New Companion

~aaaah, that was a good meal.

The blue pillbugs meat wasn't so much different from the brown pillbugs, other than it was a lot softer and a little bit salty.

Ugh, I think I ate a little bit too much, but after yesterday's tasteless brown pillbugs meat, this could be called a delicacy...

And~ you can bet just how bad my situation is when I call this sorry excuse of a meat a delicacy...

Anyway, one of my scythes got a little bit cracked near the end of the battle with that blue pillbug,

however, it seems like it already started healing.

And even though I can't see it, my shell is also probably cracked and burned from all those attacks,

but that also probably started to heal just like my scythes...

What a convenient thing, looks like every time I fill my belly, the regeneration process kicks in...

Or maybe, this is actually the result of leveling up ?

Hmm, I'm still not 100% sure about this,

looks like I need to investigate it when I have the time.

Now that I have obtained food for at least a couple of days, I just need to drag the spoils to the nest somehow...

So I'm currently trying to think of a way to transport it,

the nest isn't that close, and I don't think going back and fore is a good idea.

I'm trying to think of something...

But...

Let's see, I need to take care of this problem first...

Why are you looking at me like that, HA ?!

I let this green pillbug go because I have already secured the food,

so I don't have any reason to kill him other than free exp.

But instead of going away after he ate his share, he just sits there,

looking at me with that innocent and dumb face...

Shoo, shoo !!!

I'm not giving you my share,

no matter how cute you look like,

for a bug...

Ugh, ok what do you want, A?

You wanna be my friend or something ?

[Individual [Nature Isopoda] wants to form a party with the individual [World Isopoda]]

[[Yes] or [No]]

Ok, this answered my question rather anticlimactically...

Looks like my shooing had an opposite effect.

Hmm, while I would normally said "NO" right away,

I don't think I have the luxury to refuse it this time...

Thinking about this battle just now, those four pillbugs were clearly in a party.

They must have hunted in a group for a while to be able to fight like that.

The only reason I managed to win was because they were all low level

and I managed to scare them with my reckless, straight up suicide attack.

There is a very high chance that I will encounter more and more groups like this.

And even if I encounter such a group, and even if I'm winning,

there's no telling if another pillbug would come and use such a situation in their favor,

just like this blue pillbug did. Luckily he was both weak and weakened so I managed to deal with him.

Taking all this into consideration, I don't think that I will manage to survive for long if I plan to go on the "lone wolf" route.

Sooo even if it is just this green one, it wouldn't be so bad to have someone watch my back.

So my answer is [Yes].

I'm kinda reluctant a little about this...

Afterall, I'm partnering with is this dumb looking green one who didn't make a favorable first impression on me.

But eh, beggars can't be choosers...

[Acknowledge]

[Individual [Nature Isopoda] has formed a party with individual [World Isopoda]]

Aaaand with this finally done, we can now start coming up with a plan how to return to my nest with all this food.

Hmm let's see, how about this ?

I pierced the blue pillbug through the neck with my scythes, with all my might, piercing even through his stomach shell.

Oh, good, good. I did this to the red one as well.

It's a little bit unpractical and uncomfortable, but like this, it's possible to drag them even if I don't have any hands.

Although, with both of my scythes stuck inside those pillbugs, getting them unstuck will be a real challenge....

Looking at the green pillbug,

he started imitating me and did the same thing with the other red pillbug and brown pillbug.

Just be careful not to break your scythes, they look quite damaged from the earlier fight...

Well, I think I could get used to this party stuff,

as long as he doesn't get in my way that is.

And like this, we slowly headed toward the direction of my nest...

.....

....

...

..

.

HAAA...

How much longer do we need to walk like this?

My poor legs are aching all over the place...

Looking at the green pillbug, there isn't even a hint of fatigue on him.

Damn it, you maybe look weak, but you sure have one hell of a stamina.

Let's just hope the nest isn't that far off...

Haaa, I'm starting to realize just how convenient rolling skill is for traveling.

Too bad you can't carry anything while you are rolled into a ball.

Anyway, while we walk like this, let's check our status:

Hmm, not bad...

It's only the second day of my new life and I'm already at Lv16.

However, the level ups are already starting to slow down with each new kill, not to mention, even at Lv16 my status looks pathetic...

It probably isn't that different from a common slime monster in various RPGs...

Well, at least the skills are going up nicely.

Now let's see my new companions status:

[Assassin:Lv1]

Hmm, wait what ?

Isn't this a little bit weird?

I mean, he just killed one pillbug yet his status jumped up so much...

No, wait. First thing first, how does the level up affect him differently than me ?

Thinking about it, there is no way that he managed to evolve at Lv3 when the first evolution isn't possible until Lv5...

There is something I'm missing, so....

HELLO !!! Can you explain to me about this ?

....

...

..

.

Pretty please?

With cream on top...

[After the evolution or mutation, individual's total level and EXP is reset to Lv1 with no changes to the individual status]

[Only additions that evolution or mutation provides are added to the individuals status, like new skills or stats bonuses]

[The more evolutions or mutations an individual undergo, the more EXP will be required for a level up]

I see, this is quite an interesting mechanic.

So every time I evolve, my level will be reset and I will need a larger amount of EXP to level up again.

Wait, can't this system be easily abused ?

[While the Race:World Isopoda doesn't have a level cap, other races have.]

[Example: Race:Earth Isopoda and Race:Nature Isopoda level cap is at Lv10]

[They also doesn't have any possible evolutions until Lv10, but other races may have]

Aaaa, I see.

This does help scale down the possibility of someone abusing the hole in the system.

No. Actually without knowing it existed in the first place, it's impossible to abuse it.

Usually, the moment you can evolve into a favorable race, everybody will do it then and there.

But it's actually better to level up until you hit the level cap even if new possible evolutions are shit.

And if there isn't any level cap in the first place, just try to level up as high as possible.

Not to mention, mutations spice things up to a whole new level....

Good. So all I need to do is restrain myself from evolving as long as possible.

And when I evolve, I need to choose a race with large level cap and big evolution tree so I can repeat the process as much as possible.

Ohohoho, if I play my cards right, I may actually enjoy living in this world.

Now I'm really glad I made a party with this green pillbug,

because of him I learned a very valuable information.

I think I'm gonna use him to the fullest, hoho...

I don't even feel the fatigue anymore.

Come on, let's return to my nest before the sun goes down !!!!
