《Path of Damnation》Day 29: Yulia's cooperation (Part 1)

I watched as my liege sat on his throne, his cold eyes boring into that of the ambassador kneeling before him.
Surrounded by silence my liege had his chin resting upon his right hand and looked to be in deep thought.
The ambassador kneeling before my king was none of than a servant of the ‘Dark Gods’ army.
The ambassador hadn’t even come in secret to tell us his message.
He simply marched towards our capital and bellowed at the gates that he was an ambassador.
We had to silence the spies from the Kalmira and Lithium once we learned he was the ‘Dark Gods’ ambassador.
We would have preferred more secrecy, but there was little we could do now.
Just meeting him put our kingdom at immense risk.
But this was a risk we were willing to take.
Upon meeting the king he gave out a long speech, telling us over and over again how great and magnificent his god was.
Because nobody wished to interrupt the 'Dark Gods' ambassador we were forced to listen to four continuous hours of preaching. As my my king was finally about to lose his wits the orc had finally finished and said ‘now for the message’ which earned him the ire of everyone in the throne room.
He told us the message in a much exaggerated manner and this almost took half an hour itself.
In the end the message was simply that the ‘Dark God’ wished to ‘ally’ with us.
I say ally loosely because we would be serving the ‘Dark God’.
But the ambassador, the large orc had told us ‘my great god wishes for you to serve him as his allies’ in the longest way possible.
What pissed off everyone in the room the most was that his four and half hour speech came from a single sheet of paper.

Who once the orc had finished his business with it, had handed it to my liege whom I stood next to.
When we both read the contents of the paper, we both must have thought of executing the orc on the spot.
The paper contained barely 15 lines of writing along with a signature from the ‘High Priest of Damnation’ at the bottom.
This bloody orc had turned 15 lines of writing into a four and half hour speech.
This idiotic orc aside, the terms of the ‘alliance of servitude’ were very intriguing.
The kingdom of Yulia had never been equal to our neighbors.
We had neither the blessing of our so called God nor the magic power of our neighbor.
But we had the biggest army.
The reason for this was that our army was meant to be fodder while our neighbor's elite troops hogged all the glory and honor.
But how lucky were we now.
An eternity of servitude and humiliation may soon come to an end.
Our people would no longer be slaves.
We would be free.
Well, as free as the rest of the ‘Dark Gods’ horde.
I looked at my liege who still held the letter in his hand.
He was still staring at the ambassador but he wasn’t concentrating on him at all.
He was most likely thinking about how to let the Kingdom of Yulia benefit as much as possible.
We were so lucky to have such a kind and caring liege.
He sat on his throne and brooded for quite some time before he opened his lips.
King Jerech Yulia: “This offer” he said letting his words hang in the air while glaring at the ambassador, irritation filling his eyes “How long before your army marches to war with Kalmira?” he said with both curiosity and authority in his tone.

Ambassador Orca: “As soon as this contract is agreed upon we shall began our march in the name of our great and glorious god who with his divi-“ the ambassadors began to start a rant once more but was silenced as my liege began to speak.
King Jerech Yulia: “Yes, yes, the great and glorious god with his infinite divine power who shall sunder the world and bend all to his will” my liege responded with sarcasm in his voice but this went over the ambassador’s ear.
Ambassador Orca: “bend all to his will with his magnificent and wondrous power” the ambassador corrected my liege before attempting to once more break into a rant.
King Jerech Yulia: “That aside, how do I know this contract is real and not a ploy by my beautiful neighbours to remove me?” he asked the orc “I’ve already taken an incredible risk going this far, but how do I know you’ll even uphold your part of the bargain? Killing two birds with one stone is what would happen if I took Lithium out along with myself” my liege said while staring darkly at the orc.
The ambassador paled slightly as he saw the direction of the talks changing.
A huge assortment of ‘Uh’s and ‘Um’s came out of his mouth before he fell silent.
He stood there in silence for a moment before all of a sudden a black orb floated into the throne room and made its way towards us.
Guards immediately went to stand in front of the king whom they assumed the black orb was headed for.
But instead it fell short of the king and implanted itself into the ambassador.
Everyone stood dumb founded for a moment before the Ambassador broke out into a grin.
Ambassador: “That worry of yours will be alleviated quite soon ‘King of Yulia” the ambassador said, a smug grin plastered onto his face.
King Jerech Yulia: “And why is that?” my liege asked with irritation on his face at the sudden change of pace.
Ambassador Orca: “Because soon a very powerful man will be making his way here to alleviate worries” he stood confidently as he said this while looking into the kings eyes.
King Jerech Yulia: “And who would that be?” he asked curiosity soaking his voice “The ‘Dark God’ himself?” my liege said in a joking manner which made the ambassador frown.
Ambassador Orca: “My god wouldn’t come to talk with mortals, he’d make them come to him” the ambassador began to talk in a defensive manner but after a few minutes of internal fighting he sighed “High Priest Ghum’bil will be making his way here to make sure the ‘alliance’ proceeds smoothly” his voice was stern and contained a mixture of anger and hate towards my liege, most likely because of his joke.
But the knowledge that the High Priest himself would show up made my Liege slightly panic.
These coming days would be very interesting.
