《Being the God of Hell is a bother [On temporary hiatus]》Chapter 4 - The First Sinner

[Power: Divine Creation.
A power that only the gods possess. It allows them to use part of their power (Divinity Points) to create various constructs or give divine magical properties to existing objects.
Objects that can be created with this power:
Divine Portal (Temporary)
A portal that last about 10 minutes and allows travel to the selected location. Any location can be chosen for this portal to open to.
Cost: 10 Divine Points
Divine Portal (Permanent)
A permanent portal that leads to whatever location the creator wants to. The destination can be changed by expending 1 Divinity Point, but the original portal cannot be moved.
Cost: 100 Divine Points
Deva
A creature that is the manifestation of the God itself. Though sentient and capable of emotion should the God so desire, it's still an emanation of the God's power, so it is completely loyal to it's creator and thinks like him.
The appareance, powers and abilities of a Deva depends on the creator's will and on how many Divinity Points are expended in its creation.
Also, a specific power can be given to a Deva only if the DP spent on the creation of that specific Deva are more than the cost of the power.
Cost (minimum): 50 Divine Points.
Divine Item
An Item created by the God. Divine Items possess magical properties depending on the god's choice and how many divinity points are expended in its creation.
It's also possible to infuse a suitable object with the desired magical properties.
Cost: Variable]
What followed these was a very long list of specific power that could be given to a Deva or an item. Viktor winced when he looked at the Divine Points price for most of them.
[500'000 Divine Points for Improved Skill Copying!?! And the Points spent in the creation of the Deva should be more 500'000... that means that the Deva would cost more than 1'000'000 Points! Man, these costs are ridiculous. ] (Viktor)
Then Viktor stopped, thinking for a second. He didn't really know the rules of this world, so it was possible that getting Divinity Points was actually really easy. But the initial amount he was given was just 1000, so at least for now he had to be frugal with his expenses.
[Well, at least for now I have no real use for a Deva. I could use a portal and explore the world, but...] (Viktor)
He paused and looked at the soul, that was just standing on the porch with a confused expression on his face.
[What am I supposed to do with that thing? Basmor said I have to somehow “purify” it... I have no idea how to do that!] (Viktor)
He just stood there, looking at that pityful creature for a while... then he took a decision.
[Least I can do is talk to it... I mean, maybe it's confused about dying and stuff, and I can console it.] (Viktor)
Viktor got out of his house and went to the creature, which was still sitting on the porch, staring at some undetermined point in front of him.
[Ehm... hello there!] (Viktor)
No response.
[Uhm... My name is Viktor. I have been told that you are the soul of a sinner, but I don't want to be too quick to judge! Can you tell me something abut yourself?] (Viktor)
Again, no response.
Maybe it was cathatonic, though Viktor. Maybe the shock of dying made him incapable of reacting, or maybe all souls were like this.
But before he could continue thinking about it, the soul suddenly turned to him, with a blank stare.
[Give me food.] (Soul)
[Oh, so you can actually speak? Good! Can you tell me your name?] (Viktor)
[Food. Me want food.] (Soul)
Viktor stopped for a moment. That guy talked in primitive speech, and didn't look particularly bright. Maybe he should approach him like he would with a children.
[Ehm, no food here. I'm sorry. I tried making some but apparently everything I make taste like sulfur and ashes.] (Viktor)
[Food! Cai want food!] (Cai)
The soul looked quite angry at that point, worrying Viktor a bit. Still, it was true that he didn't have food.
[So, your name is Cai? Well, if you can stomach it, I can make something for you. Still, you are just a soul, so I don't think you need sustenance to live. ] (Viktor)
[Cai wants food!] (Cai)
[Ok ok! Just wait a moment!] (Viktor)
In order to appease to Cai, Viktor concentrated, and a plate of fruits appeared in front of him.
With a groan, Viktor noticed that all the fruits (even apples and bananas) had nasty spikes on them, and the plate was made of dark, heavy iron. Truly, everything he made with his power came out hellish.
He peeles a banana and offered it to Cai, which grabbed it with violence.
[Be careful. As I told you, the things I made taste like...] (Viktor)
Ignoring him, Cai bit into the fruit, and a second later he spit it into Viktor face.
[Hey! Watch it!] (Viktor)
[This no food! This bad taste! You trick Cai! Cai kill red man!] (Cai)
With incredible fury, the soul launced himself at Viktor, who for a moment was too surprised to react.
Cai punched the God in the gut... and promptly howled in pain, as if he had hit a brick wall.
On the contrary, Viktor barely felt that hit.
Man, these souls are really weak, thought Viktor, who was more surprised than angry.
[Hey, you should calm down. You could injure yourself if you don't stop!] (Viktor)
But Cai, while still holding his hand in pain, stared at him with his blank eyes, only that a glimmer of violent insanity could be seen in them this time.
Before Viktor could stop him, Cai grabbed the iron plate that was created moments ago and threw it at Viktor's head.
Viktor easily dodged it, but then a spiked apple hit him right on the nose, againd thrown by Cai.
Still, there was no real pain, as the hit was barely felt, but Viktor was starting to get annoyed.
[Stop it please! I told you that there is no food here! And besides, you don't even need it!] (Viktor)
But the soul didn't listen to him, and it continued to scream and throw things at him, until Viktor decided he's had enough.
[I told you to STOP!] (Viktor)
He said it while concentrating on Cai, with a tone of command that could not be ignored. For a moment, he could see some kind of darkness stirring inside the soul, like a wild beast scared by a stronger predator, and then Cai immobilized, as if he was petrified.

The damned soul looked at him with panicked eyes, but still couldn't move. Viktor simply looked at him with curiosity.
[Tutor, what happened right now? What was that darkness that I saw inside that guy?] (Viktor)
[Answer: you, the God of Hell, just used your unique power Master of Corruption. Since this soul is heavily corrupted by negative thoughts, actions and emotions it had in life, it had to abide your command. The “darkness” you saw was the corruption of this soul.] (DT)
Viktor stood silent for a bit. So that was his power. Basically he could command bad people and they had to obey him!
He enthralled thoughts about what he could do with such a power. The possibilities were infinites!
He could singlehandedly stop crime, wars and corruption! He could be a savior for all the people in the world! With such a broken power, he could be an hero like no one before!
But then again... was it right to solve all this world's problems like that? And besides, as he said to that jerk of a God he met in the afterlife, people deserved a chance to improve themself, and without errors there would be no improvement.
He could stop all bad people in the world, but... what would happen to the good people? In his philosophy, only by suffering a person could grow. Only by falling someone could develop the strenght to stand up.
He could save the world from bad people, but at what cost? Would the good people become like sheeps, incapable of thinking and defending themself?
Viktor didn't know. Some things were impossible to predict, and he would have to give this matter much thought before acting on it.
But for now, he would just try to solve the problem in front of him... the problem of the soul that was still immobilized on the ground in front of him.
Viktor got close to the immobilized guy.
[If I remember well, the Master of Corruption also allowed me to see the memories and thought of a “bad” person. Let's try it on this guy.] (Viktor)
Viktor put his hand on Cai's head, and concentrated, like he did when he gave him the order to stop.
He could feel the darkness within the soul stirring up, like a scared snake or a worm trying to escape the light, but he insisted, and after a few seconds, images of the life of Cai started appearing in his head.
[Cai was born in a small village, just a dozen mud huts between a forest and a lake. It was a primitive but orderly society, and everyone had to work for the collective good. The men went hunting, fishing and did all the hard works, while the women tended to the homes and the children, while also crafting everyday items and gathering food.
But not Cai.
His mother died at his birth, and his father followed her a few years later, killed by a wild beast he was hunting.
Cai grew up raised by everyone in the village, but he always did his best to avoid working.
He stole from the common larder, he spent his days just sleeping and prancing about in the forest, just pretending to hunt.
This continued until one day the Clan Leader, suspicious of him declared that he would have been expelled from the village if he didn't bring any prey the next hunt.
Cai tried his best, but since he was out of shape and never tried to learn how to hunt, he couldn't catch anything. He was desperate, afraid that he would have been chased out of the village, when he saw one of his fellow hunters, Abor, returning to the village alone, with a small deer on his shoulder.
Without thinking, Cai took his spear and stabbed Abor before he could defend himself, killing him.
He then hid the body and returned to the village with the deer.
No one found Abor body, and everyone just thought that he had an accident, while Cai resumed his leasurly life of stealing and sleeping.
But then, after a few months, the Clan Leader repeated his ultimatum, and again Cai was sent to the forest with the task to bring back one prey, and again he couldn't catch anything.
So he just hid and waited near the village, until one other solitary hunter, Gasma, came back with three rabbits.
He then killed Gasma, hid the body again and returned with his prey.
Again, Cai could resume his life like nothing happened, but this time people started being suspicious of him.
The following week, the Clan Leader again ordered Cai to bring one prey, unless he wanted to be expelled for the village, and again Cai couldn't catch anything and just waited near the village for a lone hunter to appear.
But this time, all the other hunters came back in group of three people, and he couldn't attack anyone safely, so he had to came back without anything.
Ignoring his pleads, the Clan leader banished Cai, saying that it was only due to not having proofs that he wasn't killed as a murderer.
Cai was banished, but he didn't know how to survive out of the village, so the third night, when he was incredibly famished, he infiltrated the village and tried to steal from the larder as he always did, but he was spotted by one of the guards.
Cai killed that guard, but the rest of the village came, captured him and finally sentenced him to dead, ignoring his pleads for mercy.
The last thing Cai remembered was the knife of the Clan leader cutting his throat, and, as he was bleeding to death, a female figure appeared and brought him with her to the desolate place where he was right now.]
Viktor let go of Cai's head, with a disgusted expression on his face.
This guy really was scum, a murderer and a thief. And what was worse, he didn't feel any remorse for his action. He actually felt like HE was the victim!
From what he could see in Cai's head, talking to him would have no result. Cai was too selfish and stupid to listen to him.
So Viktor had to find another way to purify him, making him see the errors of his ways.
And thanks to the Master of Corruption power, Viktor thought that he had a perfect solution for this problem.

Fateless: The Silver Lining
It has been ten years of peace for the Union since the end of the great war with the eastern barbarian tribes, yet in the cold north of the Union's land, a new threat is looming. This time, an ambitious Lord is seeking to restore the yore pride of his kin, forcing the weakened Union into yet another unwanted war, as he ramps up the ranks of his army with thieves, murderers and mercenaries.* * *The temperature inside the forge was nearly twice as high as the one outside. A black-haired girl hammered a steel ingot into the shape of a blade. The heat of the steam was draining her stamina away, but her focus remained sharp as her sweat streamed down her face. Hit after hit, for hours, the sound of the hammering steel followed the rhythm of her breathing. Exhausted, she placed the blade into the water and wiped the sweat off her face using a drenched rag. Why are they screaming? Vatra dipped the rag back in the water, twisted it, and approached the window. Her mouth opened as her world shattered again into the living nightmare she had wilfully tried to forget. She bit her lips; it wasn’t a dream. The pulse of her heart rose. A cold sweat prickled her back. A mother was running, and a child was screaming. A torrent of smoke was emerging from the roof of her neighbour. Vatra’s eyes blinked. The mother lay on the ground, a spear through her back. A torch circled in the air and landed on the roof of her workshop. In the distance, a man wearing a banner well known to the world… Fateless is a philosophical medieval dark low fantasy centered on war, militaristic campaigns and geopolitical conflicts between multiple empires. This story follows the fate of Vatra, a former slave from the eastern Nar Empire who was raised in a culture far away from her own, forced into warfare against her will, and the fate of Lanaya, an ambitious half-angel exiled from her home whose existence is seen as heresy. As they wished for peace, both chose a path opposed to one another until their fate crossed. In this story where war dictates the law, love strikes them as a poisoned balm to which they grasp for with all their might, as it is in the darkest of times that the smallest flames may burn the brightest. * * * Tome 1 already completed and available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Fateless-Silver-Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot/dp/B09LGSH1KK Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot-100547579135891/ I will publish 1 chapter per week (sometimes 2 if the chapters are too short for my liking).

Magikind [Original]
The third millennia, a time of change and evolution. An era, where people, through countless generations, have evolved strange powers and abilities. Through several centuries of selective breeding, these beings, known as mages, have become part of the very foundations of society. However, some refused to change or adapt. They believed in purity and refused to interbreed with magikind. Known as the manush, they were a rarity among society. Now, in the fifth millennia, the manush are thought extinct. With magikind ruling the world, a three-way war grips society. In these uncertain times, a manush called Gin, will herald a new era for all Magikind. A story of how man could realistically evolve while still pushing boundaries. Disclaimer: Chapters will be edited once the first volume is done. Bear the beginning for the time being, and hopefully you can see my writing improving over time (I've learnt a lot on how to write because of this (though I'm still not perfect :P)) Proud Member of Writers to the End, WriTE The link to the pledged fictions PS. If you find the 'notes' too boring or too info-dumpy, feel free to skip them and just read the main chapters. They're there for the reader to understand Gin's world (written in the perspective of Gin). But later on, we can see some interactions between the main characters and the occasional references to his past in the notes, so it has its purpose.
