Before going to sleep, I went to see Muriem and Kerrina. There was something on my mind since the first night of the trip. Now that we had settled down I couldn't contain my curiosity.
Aenthar: “... Hey, it was nice to see you girls getting along with Eliane, but did you really have to talk about our private time? She and her maid gave me strange looks because of that.”
Looking proud, Kerrina said, “I wanted to boast about our closeness with you.”
Muriem: “Most girls around our age at the academy haven't had their first time yet. They are inexperienced and embarrassed about that kind of topic. Her reaction was so fun!! It was also fun to be teaching a noble girl about sex. She was more curious about it than I expected. I thought she would be outraged and would ask to stop the topic. But instead, she kept asking for details while eagerly listening to us, like a good student!!”
Kerrina: “Besides, having a noble be envious of you is nice, since it's usually the other way around.”
One of them wanted to have some fun, while the other wanted to feel better, or superior. Either way, both of them were being smug about their advantage over Eliane. I thought that, maybe, it was also to boost their own self-confidence. They had started to be anxious about their own capabilities after all. My thoughts were interrupted by mischief making girl.
Muriem: “Hey. Do you think that... maybe...she is playing with herself right now?”
Kerrina: “... Not sure about Eliane, but her maid...”
I couldn't help but laugh a little. I believed Eliane would try to stay a proper lady, but imagining her trying to pleasure herself for the first time was funny. My first time masturbating was awkward, I laughed remembering my reactions. As for the maid, I got a little excited because she wasn't outside of my strike zone and I was sure she would think about me while doing it. Kerrina and Muriem, I felt that, in the future, they will enjoy teasing Eliane or messing around with her.
After chatting for a bit with them, I kissed them and went back to my room to sleep. It was good to sleep in a bed made for nobles. It was more comfortable than our own. I made a mental note to try and develop better mattresses and pillows later.
The next day, I was called to count Shane's study after breakfast to talk about business.

There was tension in the room, but luckily I couldn’t sense any hostility. It was the excitement type of tension. After all, we were about to talk about a product that would earn a lot of gold. Count Shane wanted to get the maximum benefits from it. And I intended to get maximum profits from it as well.
Count Shane wanted me to sell the recipe for a single large sum, but I, on the other hand, wanted a significant part of the earnings. We were both using a kind of intimidating pressure, realizing that the other had a decent amount of greed. (AN: I'm not a fan of business transactions, so f*ck the details and the dialogs that go with it!!)
I made a very effective deodorant compared to the standards of this world. I even made 2 types, one for men and the other for women. And they both smell good. They are peerless products, and I wanted to sell the recipe in exchange for a percentage of the monthly benefits. I even suggested 2 different shapes for the vials for better visuals.
Moreover, the materials were easy to gather and not expensive compared to the quality of the final product. The production costs would be minimal, the profits would be incredible. After discussing about it for several minutes, it was decided that I would get 30% of the monthly profits. With the amount of trade in Barnass and the close proximity with the capital, the product would spread fast and sell well.
The contract was swiftly completed, and the deodorant was named Eden Essence. How did it come to be named? I first wanted to mix my name with theirs but I didn't like the result, then I tried to use Eliane in some way, as a form of tribute to my friend, but I wasn't satisfied.
Eventually I tried to mix Eliane and Denis and got Eden, which sounded quite nice. ‘Why not?’ I asked myself, and hence the first “modern” deodorant for both men and women was named after the paradise of the first 2 humans.
Eden Essence, developed by the 7 elements mage Aenthar, in collaboration with Shane House. That kind of news would spread among the nobles of the kingdom and even beyond before the end of holiday. I would make a ton of money and my next product would be a quick hit as well.
Until that time, I could take my pick from several other nobles’ houses to sell them more of my products. The fact that many would have an interest in me would also protect me in some way. They wouldn't want something to happen to the talented youth that could bring them benefits. And it wasn't like I needed to give an exclusive contract to a noble house. I could sell the basic ideas to several nobles and watch them compete while I count the money.

I spent the afternoon teaching the fabrication method to the alchemist Count Shane had prepared. He had meticulously prepared a place for the production of Eden Essence. It would be bad for business if it the recipe was leaked, so the facility was at a corner of the estate, where it could more easily be protected and managed.
I had to be very precise because when I made them by myself I used my mana sense. I could more easily monitor the different chemical reactions. The others alchemists didn't have that advantage and couldn't make something as good as mine, so I made strict guidelines so the end result would be as close to mine as possible.
-------
The girls on the other hand spent their afternoon together. I didn't want to think too much about what they had been talking about. They also did some shopping and bought some clothes. Though I often read about how some guys didn't want to buy clothes with girls, I on the other hand liked to see Muriem and Kerrina try out different costumes.
Maybe I had a secret thing for cosplay, as my thoughts would drift to various sexy outfits for the girls once in a while. That would definitely come later, as I started to prepare some during the little spare time I had, especially nightwear and underwear. My healthy teenage body was having more influence on my thought process than I expected. I didn't mind though, having fun with girls was one of the 3 things I wanted the most for my new life.
Thinking about the clothes, I thought that I would have to make my own company. The design may be easily copied, but no one would be able to reproduce the quality of the material I would use, because no one would be able to recreate the said material or recreate the tempering process. I would hire slaves for that, and have some of them be my test subjects for the clothes, or be my eye candy for the sexy outfits.
That knight, Eliane's parents were invited somewhere else, so dinner was spent with just Eliane, Kerrina and Muriem. This time, Eliane talked a bit more about herself, about the lessons she had to take as a proper lady, and complaining about the potential marriage partners she had to meet. She said she wished she could find someone half as capable as me, which made me happy.
It was an honest compliment without hidden meanings, and I unexpectedly blushed. Eliane laughed at my embarrassment because it was something rare for me. Muriem had a wry smile, but Kerrina had a cold gaze despite the slight smile on her face. I got a bit of cold sweat run on my back when I saw her gaze. She was getting really jealous.
-------
It was already late in the night. Everyone had gone to their respective rooms long ago. Yet, I woke up as I felt someone sneak into my room.
Aenthar: “What are you doing here this late, forest princess?”
Kerrina came in my room and walked toward me without answering. I could see hints of anger and anxiousness in her eyes. When she got close she hesitated for a second. But I just pulled her in my arms.
Aenthar: “Come here. You're my precious and beautiful love, you know. Soft and sweet like a tukana flower, soothing like a mountain breeze, and as captivating as the stars in the sky.”
She hugged me back tightly, burying her face in my neck. I lay down on my back, still holding onto her. She didn't release me, but her hold lessened a bit. We stayed like that in silence, as I stroked her hairs and fury ears.
Before I knew it, she was already asleep, with her lips curved into a small, satisfied smile. This beautiful brown haired girl wouldn’t easily accept additional lovers for me. I guess it was natural that she would be especially cautious of those who were better off than her.
Maybe it's because this time she saw me being close to a noble. Maybe her resistance wouldn't be as strong with commoners. I couldn't really tell for the time being, but I reckoned it would be fine in the future. I believed it was the first time she had gotten really jealous about someone, and didn't understand it that well herself, or maybe she was surprised by her own emotions.
Since she was finally in deep sleep, I slowly and carefully carried her back to Muriem's room, placed her on the bed, and gently covered her with a blanket. Both girls stirred a little, but didn't wake. I made my way back to my room, grateful that there wasn’t anybody else awake in the area. If words got to Eliane's parents I didn't want to imagine how they would look at me.

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
