《Beast God》Chapter 28- New City Lord

“Little arrogant, aren't we now?” Jack voice shook with anger. He was the ruler of this city, ruler of thousands of people but now he was being talked down to by a teenager.
“Arrogant? Perhaps but let's get started already. I’m itching to fight some strong opponents. Both of you come at me.” Ben spoke calmly as he summoned his lightning. Arcs of lightning covered his body and jumped up and down his swords, his left eye gave off a blue glow, giving off a domineering presence.
“Henry go full out from the start.” Jack said solemnly, activating his blessing. Blood red Internal Energy surrounded his body. A demonic shadow appeared behind him, giving off an evil presence.
Jack Lvl 55
Demonic Warrior
Belu’s Blessing
‘Belu’s Blessing? Is he blessed by a god?’ Ben looked at the demonic shadow behind Jack.
Henry didn't have that much of a presence but black mist surrounded him, shrouding his body.
‘Darkness element? Interesting.’
Henry Lvl 51
Shadow Assassin
Ben smiled and waited for them to attack. He wanted to use this battle to gauge his true strength, that's why he didn't summon Duke.
Ben saw Henry disappear into the shadows and Jack shoot towards him, swinging his axe.
Ben met the blow head on, shockwaves were sent in every direction, shattering some of the closer windows. Ben was knocked back 5 steps while Henry only took one step back. Ben was slightly surprised that he was overpowered by Henry.
While Ben was slightly surprised, Jack was completely shocked. His strength was his strongest attribute and he always put his free points into strength. Jack even activated his god’s blessing, boosting his stats and giving him a sliver of divine power.
Belu was a forgotten god that was worshipped in South America thousands of years ago. Her name was forgotten with the passages of time but she remained alive. When the system was place on Earth she saw this as a chance to regain her former glory. She selected Jack as her champion because of his ruthlessness and cunning behavior. He was also strong and had strong support around him. Belu was the Goddess of Blood, human sacrifices were often performed in her name.
Jack knew he would have to go all out of he wanted to kill Ben, so he activated his god’s remaining skill, Devourer. This skill consumed his blood and in return granted him immense strength. The problem was if he used it too long it could result in his death.

Activating this skill, the aura around Jack grew thicker. Ben could smell blood coming from this aura and turned serious. He channeled lightning into his swords and legs, raising his speed as he dashed towards Jack.
Jack aura continued to rise as he let out a roar, cracking the ground underneath his feet. Jack swung his axe, making the air scream in protest.
Ben knew that he wouldn't be able to meet the axe head on like last time so he twisted his body, making the axe narrowly miss him. He swung out with his Katana, trying to slash Jack’s throat.
Jack was still on the follow through of his swing but seeing Ben’s attack he raised the handle of his axe deflecting the attack away. Ben smiled when he saw this, taking a step and closing the distance between them, he stabbed his Ninjato into Jack’s stomach.
*Pwwah*
Blood dripped from Jack’s mouth. Ben was about to follow up with another attack when the air behind him slightly shuddered. Henry emerged from his shadow, wielding two long daggers. Henry was extremely quick and Ben didn't have time to defend himself.
Henry’s two daggers slashed across Ben’s back, leaving two bloody cuts. Henry frowned, his cuts should have been deeper. Between the ripped shirt you could see black scales covering Ben’s back.
Unable to defended himself with his swords, Ben used Beast Imitation and grew scales to add a layer of defense on his body. This wasn't the first time he had down this, in the wild this had saved his life when a Speed Zombie swiped at his throat with its sharp claws.
After this, Ben practiced growing these scales all over his body. He was able to put them just about anywhere and they were able to grow in less than a second. Thanks to this, Ben was able to avoid a serious injury.
Henry retreated into the shadows after his attack failed. He was an excellent assassin. He picked the perfect moment to attack Ben and when the attack failed he immediately retreated.
‘I’ll have to be more cautious.’ Ben realized how big of threat Henry was.
He had to deal with Jack first and not leave any openings.
“Bloodlust.” Ben activated Duke’s skill. Blood red aura, similar to Jack’s, surrounded him.
Without wasting time, Ben continued to attack Jack. His two swords weaved back and forth, not giving an opening for Jack to retaliate. Ben continued to pressure Jack with his attacks, making him continuous step back. Ben was still using his lightning element, whenever Ben swords made contact with Jack’s axe, arcs of lightning would flash, leaving burnt spots on his axe and some on Jack’s body.

Ben knew his time was running out and attacked more furiously, waiting for an opening.
An idea popped into Ben’s head.
Ben made a large flash of lightning, temporarily blinding Jack. Using this opportunity, Ben slashed Jack’s throat.
No blood flowed from his throat but he still covered it with his hands. Jack’s aura disappeared and he died.
[Bennett has killed the City Lord, making him the new City Lord.]
[City Lord option unlocked in system.]
‘I’m the new City Lord?’
Ben was surprised that he was able to become the City Lord by killing Jack.
Ben’s Bloodlust skill was over and he felt a little tired from using the skill.
Ben knew that he still had one more enemy and didn't lower his guard.
“Henry. You have the darkness element right?” Ben spoke out loud.
Henry appeared from a shadow from a building.
“So you killed Jack. I didn't think your strength was this great.” Henry shook his head in disbelief. “And to answer your question, yes. My element is darkness.”
Ben drew the lightning back into his left eye, “How about we have a competition? If I win you become my subordinate and if you win I will leave the city and let you become City Lord.”
Henry was shocked at the offer, “What is the competition?”
Ben smiled, “Who's better in the dark of course.” Ben activated his right eye as dark mist poured out, surrounding him.
…
Ben woke up to his dad pounding on the door, “Wake up you two.”
Groaning, Ben rolled over trying to block out the noise, only to find himself face to face with Grayson.
“Take a hike.” Ben said shoving the sleeping Grayson onto the floor.
“W-what happened?” Grayson was still half asleep and confused.
“You fell.” Ben simply said.
“You pushed me out of the bed, didn't you?” Grayson asked, glaring at Ben.
“I told you. You fell.”
“... jackass.” Grayson cursed.
“Well next time don't spoon me. Not getting any from your girlfriend or what?” Ben mocked.
“Do you remember how hard it was trying to be alone with a girl when mom was around?” Grayson asked, clearly frustrated.
“Hahaha she does like to hover, doesn't she?” Ben laughed. His mom was happy when Ben or Grayson brought girls home to meet the family but she had strict rules that frustrated the boys.
They were not allowed to be alone with their girlfriend.
As a horny teenager, you could imagine the fights this brought between the boys and their mom. Cathy never backed down though, it was her house and her rules she always said.
“Get your own house then.” Ben thought the solution was simple.
“Houses are expensive. It took dad and I two weeks of hunting to afford this dump.” Grayson complained.
“Well I have a feeling things might change.” Bem smiled mysteriously.
“What do you mean?”
“Let's go eat first and I will explain it to everyone.” Ben told him. He got dressed and heading out of his room.
Cathy had the table full of food. Everyone else was already seated and waiting for the brothers.
Ben sat next to Cloey as she gave him a long look. She felt the shockwaves of his battle last night and was worried that he was injured. Giving her a reassuring smile, her worries were set to rest.
“Last night I fought with Jack the City Lord.” Ben made his announcement.
The table went quiet.
“Since I am here in front of you, I obviously won. I killed him.” Ben flatly said.
Everyone besides Cloey was flabbergasted, Jack Bosch was extremely powerful and was rumored to have a god's blessing.
“Because I killed him, I became the City Lord. This means that I get the mansion. I thought we could all move into it today.” Ben smiled proudly, he was glad that he could give his family better living conditions.
“Are we really moving to the City Lord’s mansion?” Cathy asked in disbelief.
“Yes. Now let's pack our things and go.” Ben stated.
…
While his family packed Ben looked at his City Lord interface.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

Sufficiently Advanced
A Novella about magic vs aliens vs science. It's a raucous, campy sci-fi read involving humans gaining magic, a possibly pizza-hating alien empire, the decapitation of the US Federal Government, eldritch abominations, lesbian space witches and some medium-hard science.I wouldn't say it's not serious, but I wouldn't say it's serious. Eh, it's not serious. Wait... it's getting serious.
