Chapter 9.5: The True Trap.

“Hey Grandpa.”

“Yes Alice?”

“Do you think Momma will finally be happy if she marries that man?”

“That man… you mean Robert?”

“Yeah him.”

“From the way you were acting, I thought you wanted to marry him too?”

“Well it is the first time in a long time that Momma has shown interest in the opposite sex. Usually she has an aloof attitude when dealing with them.”

“True, she often acts very professional, letting very little emotion show when she is working. It has been quite a while since I’ve seen her flustered like that.

“Yes because she was slightly interested in him, I acted out of character to get Momma to notice him more.”

“That explains the whole “rival” and “I don’t intend to lose” act then.”

“Yes if Momma thinks that she has competition it will do one of two things. The first would be to incite jealousy and cause her to move faster to snatch him up first. Or alternative it will cause her to concede defeat and step off the stage.”

“I see, I see.”

“My acting also caused Momma to want to try to find out more about the man who got me so out of character.”

“It seems that we hit a goldmine with him. But there is one thing I don’t get and is bothering me.”

“What is that Grandpa?”

“Robert practically handed himself to us when he gave us all the tools we needed to ensnare him. Why do I have this sinking suspicion that we’ve been ensnared instead?”

“You feel that way too Grandpa?”

“Yeah, why do you think that is?”

“You don’t know Grandpa? You must be going senile.”

“I may be an old man, but my wits are still my own, you know?”

“Silly grandpa, he used something more devious, and more subtle than the trap we laid for him.”

“And what is that?”

“A ‘misunderstanding’.”

“Wait, what do you mean a misunderstanding?”

“The ‘trap’ we set for him is based on the oral promise for him to take me ‘home’ with him when I’m 18, right?”

“If someone says they want to take someone home with them, they obviously want to do something ecchi with them, right?”

“And that is your and Momma’s first misunderstanding.”

“Wha?”

“That man had absolutely no interest in me, even when I waved my breasts in front of his eyes, he showed no reaction.”

“…”

“And when I said “If you order the combo, you can take your server home free of charge,” he immediately asked for my age. He obviously wasn’t interested in jailbait no matter how tasty they may be. When I told him that I was 16 he told me to wait until I was 18 so he wouldn’t get in trouble walking around with an under-aged girl.”

“That still doesn’t explain the misunderstanding.”

“I am getting to that part. His phrasing is what gave birth to the misunderstandings and it was done with absolutely no time to think of a way to cause it. “If your feelings haven’t changed when you reach 18, I will take you home with me.” Is what he said. This statement alone causes three misunderstandings. The first one was because my true motive for saying such things in the first place.

“That was to prod your mother into action right?”

“Yes but his read didn’t stop there. He also understood what I meant when I said, “If you order the combo, you can take your server home free of charge.” The combo being the mother-daughter combo, and the server being me. In a nutshell I was saying if he wanted to marry my mother, he would also have to take me as a packaged deal.”

“Did he really understand all that?”

“Yes but that isn’t even the scary part.”

“The scary part?”

“Yes, he knew Mother was a single parent when she admitted it to him earlier, so by asking my age he was able to calculate roughly how old Mom was and how long it would be until I left the nest.”

“I thought you said he said that because he didn’t want to deal with the law?”

“I did, but that was just a pretext. In two years I would be old enough to leave the house and live on my own or I would be of legal age where he could do ecchi things with me without the law bothering him about it.”

“But didn’t he agree to bring you home with him?”

“Yes but there are multiple ways that can be interpreted. The first way is: I will take you on a date and escort you back home. The second is, when you become 18, I will come and take you away with me. The final way is, if your mother hasn’t proposed to me in 2 years, I’ll propose to her and take you both home with me. Albeit, the second option is the most romantic and would most readily come to peoples mind with the way I was acting.”

“So you are saying the whole “he will take you home with him” thing was his acceptance of your conditions for him marrying your mother?”

“Correct. And the third and final misunderstanding from that sentence was attributed to his words, “if your feelings don’t change when you reach 18.” Because I was acting like a school girl in love, people automatically assumed that he meant if I was still in love with him when I became an adult, he would either take my virginity like I ‘asked’ him and/or date me.”

“Well excuse this Grandpa for getting excited that his grand-daughter was finally coming out of her shell.”

“Yes, well… what can I say? My acting skills are top notch.”

“Yet Robert was able to see through it.”

“Uguu~ Regardless, with that misunderstanding in place, that man started nonchalantly scattering ‘tools’ that we could use to build our trap. Little did we know that by catching him in our ‘trap’, we were merely baiting his own.”

“Wow, I really want him in the family now.”

“Don’t you see Grandpa? This is his trap, by making you want him, you send what he wants to him!”

*Ring Ring*

“Ah Mom is calling me.”
