《Realm of Learning: Adventures of Eternium》6- Blackjack

The fiend attacked with its left claw, attempting to rip our my stomach, it truly was a beast, seeing this I jumped backwards dodging it’s claw while slashing at the back of It’s wrist, slicing it off.
Critical Hit: -82 hp -82 mana
Mana damage? That was weird perhaps it’s splitting damage between its health and mana then this might take a while, the beast then roared either in pain or anger, its head jerked up, seeing the opportunity I thrust directly in where its heart should be.
-65 hp
No mana damage this time? As I was distracted by my thoughts, its left arm had grown back, its claws emitted a black smoke of sorts both went to strike me in a criss-cross pattern, I tried to parry down the middle but I was pushed back and the black smoke seemed to spill on me like water leaving 8 black lines across my sword and I.
*critical hit* -268 hp
Ugh damn , my knees buckled from the pain, that hurt quite a bit even through my parry, I guess that was shadow strike, it must have some sort of penetration effect, it went straight through my parry or maybe I need a shield.
The Shadowfiend pointed its right palm towards me and growls, didn’t need to be a genius to guess what that would be, a Shadowbolt flew out at me, it was quite fast but I rolled out of the way before it could hit me, seizing the opportunity I ran to the beasts side trying to get to its back while slashing at its leg.
-65 hp
Still it turned to follow me, trying again to hit me with its left claw, how simple, once again I jumped backwards while slashing at the back of its wrist, well perhaps it isn't that stupid, this time it was a bit more cautious so I couldn’t slice off its claw.
-82 hp
Hmm, I guess that move counted as a counter and had extra power added to it, whereas the critical hit had something to do with severing the claw prior, the mana damage likely had something to do with its shadow cloak ability. This time it tried to strike me with its right claw but I dodged it, I guess that practicing with the old man had made me a good deal stronger than things my level, I struck at its leg once again.
-65 hp
The shadowfiend howled and raised its claws above its head a familiar smoke began to billow, as it began to execute its attacked I jumped forward rolling in between its leg, its shadow strike missing me from its back I used a horizontal slash to slice it in two, it’s two halves slowly began to melt.

20% of damage taken directed to mana instead
If cast under daylight or hit by sunlight the first damage taken will cause spell to end early.
Duration: 5 minutes
Manacost: 200
Shadow strike would have been nice, but this was perfect, by being covered in magical darkness I would be under my racial passive, and the daylight aspect meant I could use my racial for the whole time in dungeons, whereas being able to my passive for the start of a fight was a really good bonus, though the mana cost was quite high, the damage absorption aspect was also really interesting and worth it as a skill, though it had significant drawbacks, the skill itself would also get quite better considering the shadow seemed to perfectly split the damage absorption.
“Hohoho, bravo.” Phenatos’ voice rang out in my head
“Well done, what’s dropped there is very rare, since elementals are not of this plane they usually don’t drop any loot, very rarely will it drop its core which is in essence its soul and can be used to bind it as a pet, sometimes the can drop rare reagents, it’s almost unheard of for it to drop a piece of itself or equipment, what you have there is very rare.”
Looking at where the two halves of the shadowfiend one were two items, one was a small pure black gem, the other was its right claw…
Grabbing both I inspected them.
Minor Shadowfiend core.Pet rank: E
The weakest possible shadow elemental.
If pet is killed will be available for summon in 24 hours.
Use item to summon pet, use again to unsummon, no cool down unless pet is killed.
Requirement: 20 drk.
“Don’t worry too much about the pet, while it’s the weakest possible pet it’s like a baby elemental, at minimum it will evolve to a Shadowfiend which is around a C rank pet, but if you do raise it well enough it could be something much better, a pet will fight with you but won’t split experience, since it will only level up with you.”

-30% cost of any spell.
(Otherworldly artifact) Can fuse with material plane gloves, repeating the process will destroy the first item fused, may consume special items to upgrade itself.
Requirement: 35 drk
Needless to say I equipped the claw, it truly was an artifact, it would help both melee damage and shadow damage and by the description it would combine with any gloves I picked up in my journey, I just hope I wouldn’t lose my magic when I got my class otherwise I’d lose half their bonus, then I used the gem and I summoned my new pet.
Please name your new pet.
“Shadow.”
Perhaps it wasn’t imaginative but I quite liked the name.
Shadow successfully named, his gem is now soul bound and can’t be dropped on death.

Skills: [(racial) Shadow dive] [Shadowbolt] [Shadowstrike]
Skill Name:Skill Rank:Skill Level:Skill Experience:(Racial Passive) Shadow Dive.Max~~Allows the shadowfiend to hide in shadows and move between them, cannot attack while in shadows.
Trust, measurement of the bond between player and an owned NPC, will grow over time, effects a number of factors.
Once again a magic circle appeared on the floor, but this one was much smaller, when shadow came out he was maybe 2 foot long and 1 foot tall this version was much cuter and began nuzzling on my leg, I told him to hide in my shadow for now and follow me, for now I left the tower and logged out I still had some time before I had to meet Theo and I wanted to check the forums since something was bugging me, I also had to log out to sleep for my well rested bonus.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once again a timer was counting down in the great white sky ceiling, but this time it was green and the count was only 4:05, I was using the computer screen to read the forums, I had been in game for almost 6 hours and not once did I see another player.
Checking on the compendium of start areas thread that someone had started, it seemed that Wallenheim wasn’t on the list, but I did see Klein and Vittradgarde however, so I guess it wouldn’t be too long before I saw another player. Checking the forums I could see what a number of other people were up to. Plenty of people were hunting rabbits and foxes, though they had to do so in groups, I wonder if I would have to group to hunt them, but I was forgetting, I was going to have to solo an army of goblins.
Not everyone was hunting rabbits however, some learnt professions, videos popped up of people cooking as apprentices to restaurants and the like, the most viewed video was posted by a user called Andreas Le Fay a somewhat weedy kid, it was similar to what I had gone through, it was his fight with his elemental only his was just a large ball of lightning, kiting it around he actually had a fireball spell to use against it, whenever it got close he would give it a good thwack with his staff until he beat it, one time it launched a smaller ball of lightning at him, but that was likely just the equivalent of Shadowbolt, there was no telling what spell he got for killing the elemental, he didn’t show that part of the video, likely only I knew he got a second spell.
Soon enough the green countdown had finished.
You have been granted well rested bonus: +300% experience for 8 hours.

Under the cloak of midnight, behind the faint creaking sounds of metal bars, staring into the vast beautiful garden of twinkling stars and the gentle, lovely blue moon as its host, was the only fox girl living in the desolate mountain ranges of Maryland with an unknown background. The gleaming reflection of those flickering flowers in her meekly eyes, as well as her blossoming countenance of hardships, demonstrate both her innocence and independence, which has never been tainted by the outside world. Finally, the white fox girl realizes she has been treated as nothing more than a prey item ready to be devoured. She's staring at the night skies for a long time and slowly closes her eyes once she gets that divine premonition from somewhere else. It was soothing in the mind. Her lovely smile showed acceptance with tears flowing through her pinkish cheeks, and her consciousness began fading away. Even if it was a mere single moment, that gratitude and that smile of hers were the happiest things she could ever express. Time has passed, and the sun has risen from its slumber. The soul of the thousand-year-old white fox girl finally ascended to heaven, leaving her lifeless, cold body behind, leaning against rusted metal poles. It was the most peaceful death everyone wished for. Painless and no regrets. The men in charge of the front didn't notice anything out of the ordinary going on behind them. Well...
