《Life Once Again》Chapter 60

“Most of the workers have settled in and the preparations have been made. We’ve received correspondence from most of the guest list and have an estimate of who should be coming.” I nodded as I heard the breakdown.
The main reason, or one of my main reasons, I should say, of creating this city was to make an attraction that would bring in constant and perpetual revenue for the whole territory at a large scale. That and we were reaching the limit on who can be accepted within only one city and still have it run efficiently.
Opening this second city creates more room for those people while also creating an industry that they could make money off, thereby making me more money.
“And you, master builder?” I asked the dwarf that was in the room with us.
“Do you even have to ask? Just have my payment ready for when our contract is over.”
‘Look at you, behaving like you didn’t have the time of your life building on new terrain.’ I chuckled.
“Sure, sure.”
I was happy that things were going well. After I had ignited my divinities, I had taken one day to acclimate myself to the new feelings, sensations and perceptions around me. Having an awareness of the faith people had in me and the temptation of using it to accelerate my growth was a little annoying, but it was something I could quickly get used to. In the beginning, using ‘faith’ might seem like a good thing that makes you get stronger faster, but eventually, you will catch yourself spending more and more time looking for ways to maintain or increase your followers lest you lose your powers. And you will lose your powers if you lose your followers.
This was too huge of a weakness for anyone with any sense to actually follow through with and surprisingly, that was a lot of people.

‘At least the last time I checked all those millennia ago.’
“Something’s different about you.” I heard the master builder say as I looked in his direction.
‘Well, He is very experienced so he could sense the change. At least a little.’ I just shrugged and didn’t reply.
“Heh, youngsters these days, no respect.” He got up and left the room, chuckling to himself.
“See you old man.” I waved him off.
After the builder left, I turned to my assistant who had been silently watching the progression between our conversation.
“The thing I asked about?” I asked him, meaning my former classmates.
‘I wonder if they would decide to come.’ I didn’t really care whether or not they made that decision, but I was curious to see how they all turned out. I haven’t met any of them, apart from a select few, since graduation.
“All of the special invitations have been received and accepted. We can expect them to come.”
“And the others?” I sent some invitations to the people of other races who lived in my land as courtesy. You know, being a polite host and all that.
“A majority have agreed to be present for the festivities coming up.” Good. The more eyes on it the better things will be, the word will spread faster to other continents and the other species.
“Good.”
Camilla Whitefyre Pov.
“An opening celebration? For what? Why do we have to go to one of those things?” Zakary asked.
“You know that while living here, we have to maintain some level of decorum while dealing with him.” I said, looking at him.
“Tsk, why can’t we just ignore them forever?”
“We still haven’t reached that level yet.” I smiled sadly at him.

“I’ll make sure to reach that level of success soon so we can live freely.” He said to me earnestly.
‘I know you will.’ I smiled at him.
We had been in charge of all the Whitefyre businesses here in Treehome ever since father declared it as such. Surprisingly, or at least surprisingly to others who didn’t know my brother, Zakary had done a fantastic job in growing the businesses here as opposed to laying around.
‘Well, he does receive a percentage of all the profits here so that might be the reason.’
He did all he could to provide for his new family while sheltering them from the chaos of the Whitefyre name. Yes, he had a family, the first one amongst us siblings to settle down and marry while all the others were chasing power in different forms.
‘I’m still surprised.’ I chuckled to myself.
His wife, Lily, was the complete opposite of mother. She was a sweet looking woman, with her brown hair and eyes, lovely open face and demure figure. She was kind to those around her and treated my brother very well, so he treated her like the sun rose in her presence. He revered her for the calmness and unconditional love she brought into his life, even more so when they had their first and only child.
She was, however, a commoner with no power at all.
Father didn’t really care enough to say anything but mother absolutely hated that and made it known. She had probably built it up in her head that Zakary would marry a noble that would make his claim to the head of house position carry more weight, but she really didn’t know her son if she thought he would eventually cave to her whims.
Zakary was a man who portrayed an outward persona of avarice in his earlier years to shield himself from competing with siblings he knew, even at a young age, were more talented than he and everyone mocked him for it, even I. But now, he has gotten his chance at a normal life and he would let no one muddy his way. Not even mother. After his response in their last argument, she knew to never speak of his wife in his presence or risk being cut off from him forever.
‘She learned that the hard way’ I thought with a smile.
I was happy for him and his little family.

Will he use his newfound abilities to explore the multiverse and improve the lives of himself and others, or will he become his own antithesis, a purely mercantile jerk obsessed with money and profit, with no concern for anything that doesn't help or hurt his business? Find out in The Curio Shoppe! Author's note: Please suggest possible setting he could visit in the comments. I'll gather ones i'm familiar with, and at the end of every arc, a poll will be held to decide the next location he visits. There will be polls for other purposes, and I might not always go with the poll winner if I feel one of the other options is more fun to read/write about. I will not use the settings of other RRL writers without their permission.Do not ask for that, unless the author in question gives permission. Most settings he visits will be slightly AU in some way or another, but please remind me if I drift too far from canon unintentionally or characterize a character wrongly. This work will eventually fit all tags I selected once he visits universes suited to those tags, so don't ask when or where a given tag is coming. I do not own the cover art, it belongs to Nicholas Belanger Thiel, and I will stop using it if he asks me to. Kellan doesn't look like the old man on the cover, though once he acquires a disguise-type ability he may occasionally use that appearance. The tapir, however, will be a thing, as despite looking like a failed attempt at an elephant, tapirs are cool and this dragon finds them to be kinda cute. The art, along with more of Nicholas's pieces, can be found at https://www.artstation.com/artwork/51bXz
