《Bloody New World》Chapter Twenty Six: The pros and cons of the idiot I summoned
Advertisement
The second ability I tried to share with Gray was my own unique ability.
I shared invisibility first to learn how it works. Invisibility was completely useless to me because I had hiding presence, so it made for the perfect experimental tool for me. I wanted to know if I would still be able to use the ‘shared’ ability while I was ‘sharing’ them with Gray, and also I wanted to see if I could stop sharing them whenever I wanted to. Both questions were answered in the affirmative so I moved on to sharing ‘absorption’ next.
I wasn’t sure if unique abilities could be shared, but I really hoped that they could! If I could share mine it would get me a powerful ally and who knows, maybe the rules are different for an elemental and he could absorb unique abilities too! I ‘shared’ my ability with Gray and waited with bathed breath…
Ability sharing successful. Current ability being shared: Absorption.
YES!
It worked! This opens up so many possibilities! My face lit up with a huge smile as I thought of all things I could do now with delight. First thing I asked Gray was if he only got ‘absorption’ or if he got all the abilities that I had already absorbed, he answered that he only got absorption which was a bit disheartening but no worries, I can still get him to drink blood on my behalf and do...
“Yeaaaaa….. Sorry to burst your happy bubble there but this won’t work.” Gray said, interrupting my joy. Bastard.
“What do you mean? I already got the confirmation that the sharing worked.”
“Oh, why am I stuck with such an idiot. Someone save this poor soul and heal his stupidity!” Hmm… how big of a fireball should I throw at him this time…?
“Have you taken a look at me? Do I have a mouth? Do I have a corporeal form even? I am a shadow! The most I can do is condense my body enough that I appear like a ball, that’s it! Just how do you expect me to drink blood when I don’t have any way of ACTUALLY DRINKING BLOOD???”
…..
The 2-inch fireball I had summoned to hit his ass with flickered away and died down as I thought about his words. If this doesn’t work then it would ruin all the things I had planned to get rid of my boredom!
Time to test things out.
I teleported both Gray and myself down to the road while I activated hiding presence and I picked out the nearest living thing to test on. The creature I picked was a deceptively cute and cuddly small bear-type creature which had a height of 2 feet and had soft, light brown fur covering it. It also looked like it always had a smile on its face. For all intents and purposes it looked like a teddy bear, but the deception was that this little fucker lured you in and then opened its mouth to bite anything in sight with its sharp pointy teeth! Its mouth opened up too much to be considered normal, it even had ‘enlarged mouth’ as an ability!
Anyways, ignoring the cute appearance of little teddy, I ripped apart its head and then proceeded to drag its headless corpse to where Gray was lurking around in the shadows away from the sunlight. I controlled Gray through telekinesis and dipped the ball straight into the hole where Teddy’s head was previously situated. Needless to say Gray complained, a lot.

Ignoring all the profane language coming out of my newborn summoned elemental’s mouth, I waited till Gray got away from the headless corpse and impatiently asked, “Well, did it work?”
“NO YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE IT DIDN’T WORK! WHAT KIND OF A SICK BASTARD….”
I used my ‘True Sight’ ability on him to see if he was telling the truth or not, it showed that he was actually speaking truthfully so I unsummoned him to make him disappear. I couldn’t be bothered dealing with him right now. It was extremely disappointing that my idiotic summon was useless! Maybe I should kill him and see if I can summon some other dark elemental that could actually drink blood…?
Killing him is one option but even if I did kill him it’s not a guarantee that I would summon another ‘dark’ elemental. Even if I did manage to summon another ‘dark’ elemental that I could share my ability with, there is still the chance that it could once again end up being a ghost or a shadow or something without a corporeal body with which to swallow blood. Dammit, this sucks!
Let’s think Ben…
….
Oooh! That could work!
I summoned Gray again and ignoring his comments once again I stopped sharing my absorption ability and shared my summoning ability. I could share this ability with him and he could summon something else and if the thing he has summoned is once again a dark elemental then it could summon something else and so on and so forth… hehehehe
Ability sharing unsuccessful. Summoning ability cannot be shared.
FUUUCCKKK!!
Gray was just laughing at this point and calling me stupid that I even thought that this would work! I of course threw a fireball at him but he disappeared! He turned completely into a shadow and I couldn’t find him anywhere at all no matter how hard I looked. Even using my vision abilities didn’t work!
It was impressive. It would have been much more impressive if Gray didn’t keep on taunting me… I unsummoned him so I could think in peace once again.
Right, so there goes plan A and plan B. Absorption can’t be shared right now, I’m hoping that he will be able to turn solid once he grows more powerful so that he could drink blood. Until then, I’ll have to think of something else.
His own innate ability to turn into a shadow is pretty useful though. I couldn’t spot where the little guy was no matter what I tried! I guess what he said earlier about shadow elementals being mainly used for recon work was true. Maybe I could try using him for some recon as well…?
Hmmm…..
Not a bad idea!

Me and Gray were currently hovering over the ruined ‘abomination city’. It was night time right now as I had waited until Gray was able to move freely about before teleporting here.
I had been wanting to kill off these things before, but I thought I would travel and get stronger first before taking them all on and then I got immensely bored and ‘revenge’ against an entire species of monsters just seemed like too much work.
It couldn’t even be called revenge could it? I killed one of their own and all they did was retaliate…

Whatever…
I had always been curious about their ‘underground system’ and how it all worked but I really didn’t want to risk my life by going underground into a den full of monsters just to explore. Which is why sending Gray was the smarter choice!
I was currently sharing my ‘ability identification’ ability with Gray, I wanted to see just how many abilities these abominations had.
Convincing Gray to go was surprisingly easy. He was actually excited about going on his first recon mission. Though I did ‘forget’ to mention that the monsters down below could also manipulate fire…
I had instructed Gray to go as deep as possible and to identify abilities of any new monster he came across. Truth be told I could easily control one abomination through telekinesis and check out its abilities, but why would I do that when I have such a good summoned elemental to do it for me without me getting in harm's way? So, I sent the little ball underground through a sewer and waited.
“Wow! These things are hideous!” Gray’s voice came to me in my mind. Our summoner’s bond allowed us to communicate through telepathy.
“Check out their abilities Gray, not their looks!”
“Yeah yeah… So these ugly things have elemental control, hardened skin, unity and precision.”
Four abilities huh? Elemental control I was already aware of, hardened skin I had some idea as it took me a long time indeed to break the skin of the abomination I fought all that time ago. Precision I guess is something that made it possible for them to be so scarily accurate with all their elemental attacks, but what’s this unity ability?
“Tell me the details of the Unity ability Gray.”
“Well, it says: Ability allows target to be united in every sense of the word with their own kind. Target and others of the same species with this ability think of each other as family and move as one when they find out one of their own is in trouble.”
......
Such a friggin troublesome ability! This must be the reason why they all came up when I killed one of these assholes. This ability doesn’t even have a purpose apart from making it super-annoying to kill them! I will have to figure some way to fight smartly against them. It will have to be done in such a way that quickly and efficiently removes all traces of their bodies…
I asked Gray to continue on down the tunnels but after about an hour of him describing seeing nothing but dark tunnels full of the same abominations we both got tired and decided to call it quits.
I was still fuming over the annoying ‘unity’ ability when something came to my mind! Two seriously strong monsters which I still have no hopes of winning against are the T-rex and the ice dragon! I could use Gray to scope out their abilities too! I don’t think I’ll be able to fight against them anytime soon but it will certainly be interesting to see what those strong existences are packing!
I will have to teleport Gray there myself, as even if I share my teleportation ability it won’t work as he won’t be able to teleport there. Gray has never been to either London where the T-rex is or to Mount Everest where the dragon is, so the teleportation obviously won’t work. I guess I’ll simply teleport there with Gray and immediately teleport back here to safety, it shouldn’t be much of a problem.
Let’s see, London first or Mount Everest?
…..
I think Mount Everest! A dragon’s abilities will be much more exciting than a dinosaur’s!
I unsummoned Gray and summoned him back again, so he ended up beside me instead of being God knows where in the network of underground tunnels. I told him we were going to another place and without waiting for a response I immediately readied myself to teleport to the top of Mount Everest. I took out some warm clothes from my pocket dimension first and put them on before I teleported with Gray.
Immediately icy cold winds attacked my body even with all the extra clothes I was wearing! I didn't even wait for more than a second before I left Gray and teleported back to where I came from… or I tried to… it wasn’t working! I tried to teleport once again but it still didn’t work! What’s going on?!?
Suddenly ice started creeping up over my feet and started covering my whole body! I found that I couldn’t even move a single muscle! I couldn’t be frozen so soon! I activated my heat and cold resistance ability to see if it helps but I didn’t feel any different at all!
I tried using fire manipulation to make a fire but it didn’t work either! I tried using a number of different abilities but nothing worked! None of my abilities were working! What’s going on!
I could only move around my eyes, and as I looked around everywhere a sight to my immediate right side made me feel true fear! Fear as I have never felt before!
“Welcome back, human. How nice of you to drop by again! You know, you are the only human to ever see me and then escape alive? That’s not very nice now is it! What would anyone say when they find out I let a human escape unscratched?? I actually was going to come hunt you down when the weather of this planet turned more favourable for me to save my dignity but I’m so glad you came by to visit all by yourself!”
I felt despair down to my very soul as I stared into the huge blue eyes of the ice dragon sitting calmly on my right side…

Author's note: If you have concerns, feel free to comment. If anyone is wondering where Ariel has disappeared off to don't worry, I will develop her character more and she will actually start having a more important role rather than being just 'there'.
What am I doing?? I introduced some OP unique abilities last chapter and now all of a sudden an ice dragon captures the MC?! It's not random, it's all planned, you'll see.
Thanks for all the reviews/ratings recently! You guys are the best! :)
Hope you like the chapter, sorry for the cliffhanger!

The Mortal Acts is an epic progression fantasy with a lower focus on training aspects and a great focus on discovering new ways of using powers intelligently. I've always been drawn to stories where characters use their powers creatively to overcome opponents and obstacles, and I think all the possibilities can provide a great playground for twists and turns. It's inspired by a variety of media, including Will Wight's Cradle, Hunter x Hunter, and Bioshock, so if you like the creative power use elements from those, come check it out. Desperate to find a cure, he travels to Severance Frontier, a desolate land haunted by hordes of ghosts, witches, and demons collectively called the Deathless. But a miraculous cure doesn’t magically fall into his hands. Things are worse in Severance Frontier than Riven had assumed. Ghosts are banding together into armies, demons are kidnapping anyone who strays out of settlements, and witches are enslaving everyone left and right. Riven, of course, gets embroiled in the mess. Missions to curb the Deathless activity are one thing, but when it starts to look like this is just the beginning of a war that extends beyond the mortal realm, Riven has a hard time focusing on why he came to Severance Frontier in the first place. His mother is inching towards death with every passing day, but if he doesn’t face down the Deathless, what little civilization the Frontier holds will be overrun and destroyed. Thankfully, it looked like the Deathless might just hold the secret of the elusive cure.
