《Bloody New World》Chapter Thirteen: Experimenting

Author's note: Funny story with this chapter. I had been ready to upload this about 30 minutes ago and had already copy-pasted this here and was proof-reading it, when my laptop shut down while I was 3 quarters done with proof-reading! I had been ignoring the low battery messages and paid the price... I immediately yelled out FUUUUCCKKKK! at the top of my voice and ended up having to endure a 15 minutes lecture from my mother lol :P
Anyways, lame story done. Hope you guys like this chapter! I'll try and get another one done tonight to finish off this underground monsters mini-arc...
____________________________________________
I made my way back to the ballroom in low spirits. When I entered my expression must have given away my feelings because I immediately got surrounded by a lot of people who started asking me what’s wrong and if everything was alright...
At first I got annoyed and thought about going to my room to stay alone, but then I remembered that everyone here was in a much worse situation then me. I had my unique ability to help myself, but these guys only had a single ability to rely on. Plus I am more or less an unemotional bastard and I already know my family is dead, whereas most of these people constantly worry about their families outside the hotel. It would be best to tell them the truth about the whole situation, so they can be prepared for the inevitable result of finding their families dead...
With that reasoning, I started telling them about all that I saw on the outside. As I spoke, I saw their expressions turning from shock to alarm to despair. Even Carmen had a sort of expression that said something like ‘there goes all hope I had’.
After I finished speaking, I left the ballroom as I really didn’t want to deal with all the emotional crap those guys would start talking about. I made my way back to my room and lied on the bed, trying to ponder over what to do.
I could easily overpower the demons in terms of strength based on how the demon from earlier struggled against the ogre. The problem was the fact that it could use magic. I had only seen it use a fireball, but even that fireball was nothing to joke about! I had felt the heat of it even though I was a good distance away from it, plus it had taken just a couple of seconds to completely roast the ogre! I had the ability to manipulate fire, but that attack had been too fast and too powerful, and I’m not sure if I could manipulate it before it hits me. And if it manages to hit me, I’m not sure I will survive, as I don’t have any sort of fire-resistance. The only ability I have is resistance to temperature, and that won’t do me any good against a fire of that intensity.
Furthermore, I have no idea if it can only use fire. Perhaps the demons can use a number of different types of magic. That is most likely true, given how they managed to wipe out so many monsters from this city. There is just too little information at hand, and it’s time I got more info on these creatures!

I got up off the bed and strode out into the hallway in search for some ogres to experiment on.
The next few hours I spent on trying out my new abilities. Ice manipulation came easily, and I could manipulate it into a number of different shapes and sizes. I even managed to easily freeze a number of ogres completely!
Lightning manipulation was a completely different story. At first, I couldn’t even manage to produce lightning, only a few sparks from my fingers appeared from time to time. It took a lot of effort from me to finally be able to produce a bolt of lightning, but even after I managed to produce it, I couldn’t control it no matter what. I had to spend a good 3-4 hours just to practice on how to control the lightning I produced. At the end, I could manage to make the lightning head into a general direction, but nothing specific like hitting a small target. Practicing with lightning also made me tired, and I had to take a nap before continuing on with the experiments...
After my nap, I moved on to telekinesis, the ability I had been looking forward to the most. There was just something about moving things with my mind that excited me a lot!
I started off small, trying to control small objects like pens, socks, handkerchiefs etc. It was surprisingly very easy to do, and I had absolutely no trouble at all in controlling these small objects and moving them about however I wanted.
I then moved on to bigger objects. I tried moving lamps, pillows, chairs, tables and even beds! These objects too were extremely easy. The largest object I could find was a huge bed in the presidential suite which was made out of some kind of marble, no doubt it would weigh a lot. However, contrary to what I thought, it was once again surprisingly easy to control! I had no trouble whatsoever with moving it about.
I was astonished to see how easy this ability was for me. I figured it had to do something with the fact that I drank a lot of Carmen’s blood as compared to others. But even still, it was just too simple!
After I had done trying to move objects, I moved on to trying to move living things! And this is where trouble started. No matter how hard I concentrated, I just couldn’t move a single finger of the ogres I was experimenting on...
I thought ogres might be a bit too much for my first try, so I made my way back to the ballroom, but this time I kept my hide presence ability active so that no one would be able to see me. I spotted Daniel, a 6 year old boy who had been here since the start. He was the smallest living thing inside the hotel, so I thought practicing on him would be easier.
I spent the next few hours trying to move him. It took a lot of concentration, but at the end of my practice session I managed to take complete control of him! He was puzzled by the end of my experimenting, but I didn’t do too much to him. I only made him trip, made his arms and legs twitch a bit and made him float a few centimeters above the ground for a second, nothing he won’t get over in some time…

I moved on to the next child, a girl about 8-9 years old, don’t know what her name is… It was easy to control her after all that practice I had done on Daniel, so I didn’t spend much time controlling her...
Instead of moving on to adults I left the ballroom and went to search for ogres. Adults are much more perceptive then kids, so they would know immediately that something was wrong when I made their limbs twitch or if I made them hover. That could lead to panic or some awkward questions, and I didn’t want any part of it. Thus, I moved on to the much more safer option: ogres.
I crept near an ogre and tried to take control of him, but it was hard. I could make his arms and legs move a bit, but it was extremely hard to lift its whole body and move it about.
I spent a good few hours trying to lift the ogre, and at the end of the day all I could do was lift it a few inches off the ground for a few seconds before I had to put it down again.
I moved back to the ballroom exhausted and slightly disappointed, and fell asleep almost immediately...
_____________
I crept around once again in the middle of the night and helped myself to some more blood from Carmen, three more syringes to be exact! Then, I went back to sleep before resuming my practicing the following day...
I found an ogre and immediately tried to lift him, and ended up smashing the creature straight through the ceiling and into the floor above! Luckily, I was practicing on the 17th floor and it was nowhere near the ballroom which was on the 6th floor, so no one heard the noise except for the nearby ogres...
I got over the initial shock of how easy it was to lift the ogre pretty quickly when I saw a bunch of ogres running towards me. I had no idea when I shut off my hiding presence ability, but apparently I did which was why all these ogres could see me. Instead of hiding my presence again, I decided to do a few more experiments with telekinesis...
I was pretty confident on my steel-skin ability to keep me safe from any injuries from these ogres, so I stayed at the spot and concentrated on trying to take control of all the ogres present. There were about 15 of them running towards me, and I tried to take control of them one by one to see what my limits were.
I stopped the charge of one ogre, then two, then three… all the way to fifteen! I could completely take control of all fifteen ogres present without breaking a sweat!
I then moved on down the hallway making a lot of noise while making the fifteen ogres follow behind me. As a result of all the noise I was making, more and more ogres started rushing towards me and I tried taking control of as many as possible.
At the end of it all I could take control of almost 50 ogres before I started having trouble! Unbelievable! I couldn’t for the life of me think why Carmen didn’t do this when they were surrounded by ogres in the ballroom. She could also have taken control of me when she thought I was a vampire! A shiver ran down my spine as I thought about what could have happened if Carmen was aware of the full extent of her powers…
I then decided it was finally time for me to go back to the ground floor and face the demons once again..
_________________
I was hovering over the ground floor with around 20 ogres beside me. They were making a lot of noise, but that was the whole point. I wanted to see if the demons from below would come out and attack the ogres while they were in mid-air…
15 minutes passed by without any demons coming from the ground no matter how much noise the ogres made. I decided to drop one and see if there were even demons below or if they had gone away to someplace else…
As soon as the ogre hit the ground, two red hands shot out! One of them fired a fireball immediately and roasted the ogre, and the other hand dragged it down! This all took place in a matter of seconds!
This made me realize that the demons below weren’t some stupid mindless creatures, but they learned how to quickly take care of the ogres and implemented the fireball technique after just one encounter. Which means I am dealing with intelligent creatures instead of stupid ones… this just keeps getting better and better….
I then threw 5 ogres below at the same time and what happened next astonished me! 4 red hands, 2 blue, 2 green and 2 yellow hands shot forth from the ground! Two of the red hands shot fireballs while the other two dragged the two roasted ogres down, a blue hand froze an ogre while the other blue hand dragged the frozen ogre down, one green hand sliced off the ogre in half with a wind blade and then both green hands dragged both the halves down and finally one yellow hand shot spikes of earth towards the ogre and the other yellow hand then dragged the impaled ogre down! All this happened in the space of under five seconds!
These things can use all 4 basic elements?! FUCK! It’s about time I see what I’m dealing with here! I was extremely frustrated and threw all the remaining ogres down at the same time and saw as a bunch of red, blue, green and yellow hands shot forth from the ground! I took control of the nearest pair of green hands with telekinesis and pulled with all my might!
A huge hole appeared as the ground split open to reveal something straight out of someone’s nightmares! I gazed dumbfoundedly at the enormous monster that I had just pulled…
All I could think about was how I had been underestimating these creatures by calling them mere demons….
Leafyeyes stole my chapter! Grrrrr!
Lol... no idea what's going on with the website, but it's all going crazy for me too. I guess I'll hold off on anymore commenting and wait till it gets fixed lol :P

Force Majeure: A web novel
In the Qursan Empire, the grey walls of the city press down on its subjects. It is a highly divided society which is based on the magical strength of its citizens. While the most powerful are trained as Mages, the majority of citizens use their limited skills with essence to power the city in their assigned jobs. Jano is pretty much the lowest of the low in the Qursan Empire. A Class Ten citizen forced into transitory work after having his power restricted. When he gets the opportunity to change all of that, he takes it with both hands. Please note this is an edited version of my story ‘city of captives’. It follows a similar structure but I’ve ironed out some of the kinks. If you read that version, much of this will be similar though there are some differences. This is a slow burning progression fantasy. Please expect at least two chapters per week. I love writing this story but I do have unfortunate things to deal with like work and life outside of writing. I may be able to write and edit more than that, but it will never be less! If you enjoy this, consider following me on Instagram by just searching Crow J Williams.
