Chapter 34
I met up with my employer, Mr. Stonedead the next day and met him at the graveyard.
“Good morning. Are you ready to get to work?” He asked me.
“Yes sir.” I replied.
“Excellent. Now allow me to explain to you what exactly is expected of you.”
I nodded.
“The job of grave keeper is simple enough but there are a few nuances one must learn.”
“Nuances?”
“Yes, for example you know there are undead in the city. I myself rose from a graveyard very similar to this one back in the day.”
“Do undead sleep here?”
“No. At least they shouldn’t be. There might be the occasional hobo, but that’s part of your job, to make sure they don’t sleep here.”
“Then I’m like a guard?”
“Well put my friend that is very close to what you are. You must make sure that the grounds are kept clean, no one steals the bones or corpses of the deceased, and that any ghosts that rise again wanting vengeance are put down.”
Um… what? Only one of those sounded like a normal thing a grave keeper does.
“Well it should be simple enough for someone such as yourself. If someone gives you trouble, you’re free to do anything short of killing them. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
And before I could say anything, Mr. Stonedead left. Not sure what to do, I began to wander around the graveyard.
It wasn’t long before I spotted a man with a shovel and a large sack, whistling to himself as he was digging up a grave.
I’m supposed to stop this right?
“Hey you there.” I called out.
The man jumped up in surprise and turned around to face me. “You startled me there. Who are you and what do you want?”

“I’m the new grave keeper here.”
“Grave keeper?!” The man was frightened for only a moment, and then he took another look at me, “You’re the grave keeper? Wow, the Stonedead Company is getting lax with its employees. To think I was actually scared of you for a minute.”
He then returned to digging up the grave. It seems I’m not being taken seriously here.
“You better stop.”
“Make me.”
This guy is annoying…
Remembering StoneDead’s words I walked over to the man and took his shovel out of his hands.
“Hey, what the hell do you think you’re doing?”
I just can’t kill right?
Thinking such thoughts, I pushed the man into the hole he was digging moments ago.
“Oof! Damn you’re strong for such a tiny thing. Wait, what are you- Paf!”
I began whistling.
“Wait! Paf! Stop it- Paf!”
I just kept whistling.
Soon only a hole was left for him to breathe. The rest was buried in dirt.
I noticed that a few graves away there was a ghost who looked as if he was coming out of the ground. His eyes were glued to the shovel I carried.
“Are you rising up to take vengeance?” I asked.
“… Not anymore.” He said as he sunk back into the ground.
I smiled to myself. I think I could really get the hang of this job.
“Ah, right. Better grab a guard.” I said, almost as an after thought.
