The machine's head springs out of its torso once again as its optic units start glowing in a dim blue light after spending 12 hours resting and charging up the internal power bank. The first thing the machine do after its second awakening is to quickly move its head around to scan its surrounding once again, but the result it gets afterward is the same as before, cold and flat surface, the cave it residing in is too dark for lower than infra-red sensor array to operate properly, and the dim light emitted by the optic unit is not bright enough to illuminate anything either. So for now, the machine decides to look around in infrared light to save power.

The machine looks down at the pile of rocks and dirt on its body again, it noticed that the pile has gone up a bit bigger for some reasons, and some of the dirt actually a bit warmer than others, the machine is unsure how could have happened as its CPU pulling data from its data drive to try putting up some logical explaination. Sudden, the machine heard a screech from above, and without any hesitation the machine raises its head up as much as it could to investigate, and there the machine find its answer, a small flock of bats, or at least the machine think they are somekind of bat based on the thermal signature outline of the creature matching the image of a bat in its data drive. Perhaps the warm dirt on the machine is not dirt at all, but feces of the bats hanging above.

The machine slowly lowers its head to its normal position as it waits for the power routing process to be done before the machine could evaluate what part of its body can be used and what parts is broken. Normally the machine could just shut down once again until the routing process is done to save power, but for some reasons, its primary processing unit does not want to take that action, instead it want the machine to stay awake and to look around more, it want the machine to explore the environment around it as much as it can to extract more data from it, after all the machine is made for exploration purpose, it just do what it is made and programmed to do.

But as time passed, the machine finally realized that there have nothing to discover with just thermal image data, the place just cold and flat, it's all the machine can see. So the processing unit order a different exploration process, the machine now want to explore its inside, starting with its programing, the prime directive.

The machine slowly looks to its left arm which is burrowed in the dirt, then it turns to the right one resting beneath a small boulder and some rocks, since the machine guesses a pile dirt is not as heavy and rigid as a pile of rock with a boulder on top, the machine decides to move its left arm first as the powerbank pours power into the lifeless arm.

The machine steadily pushes the pile of dirt away as it left arm moves up in a jerking motion, the joint motor of the arm whines loudly as it gusts the dirt and rusted metal dust out of its system, causing the bats above to screech loudly in return and scatter away quickly, the machine does not mind it however, it seem more interested in examining its arm visually than noticing and observing the bat.
The arm is still intact as the machine expected it to be, the metallic 'skin' is rusted and cracked heavily, but it did it job well as the internal seem to be just like new, a little dust blowing and grime cleaning would be appreciated still. The machine moves the arm around slowly to check the joints, the pinkie finger seem stuck, but it does not mind the machine much as it won't be needing it as much as its maker did, as long as it work, the machine won't have any complaint about it, and it's not like its maker is here to repair the machine anyway.

The machine slowly looks over to the boulder on its right for a moment before it looks down at its left hand, the machine does not know how heavy the rocks are, but the machine know that it need its right arm, and sitting there doing nothing is not an option, so the machine tries pushing the boulder and the pile of rocks off to free its right arm carefully as it does not want to have more rocks falling on its already half buried body

[/Right_arm_at_11%]
The right arm is heavily damaged, as expected, the metallic cover has infused with the rocks formation and left the internal part exposed to the dirt and grimes, most of the circuit boards and wiring as well as hydraulic tubes are broken or disfigured beyond all repair, only the index finger and middle finger is still operational, seem like the machine is not all right after all.

The machine was built with 4 independent legs that move like an arachnid creature intended for harsh terrain and extravehicular activity in space back in its world, the design is rigid and focused on durability and stability more than mobility, but it seem like it wasn't enough as its rear right leg is served from the body, or rather, its rear right leg is nowhere to be found, the machine can only see an empty port on the schematic in its eyes as if the rear right leg was never with the machine in the beginning, the machine guesses it was its maker forgot about it when they deployed the machine, or the leg was removed for some optimization work, either way, the machine does not care about it, it just simply pushes the dirt and rocks off its lower body and stands up as carefully as it could to begin stability calibrating process, the machine decides to lift up the rear left leg and stands on its front legs as going bipedal seem to be a better option than standing on 3 legs awkwardly.
[/New_objective:Explore the tunnel]
The machine slowly looks left and right to look around as its CPU does the virtual coin flip in its head 4 times in less than a microsecond to decide where to go. And right value win left value by 3:1, so the machine turns right and slowly moves forward while looking around slowly to inspect its surrounding, then it looks back at the spot where it rested for the last 22 hours since its awakening to remember the place, perhaps marking the area as its starting point before turning back and continues its exploring work slowly, but steady.
"I told you, there have nothing to mine here."
"Just keep looking lad, and stop complaining!"
Two unknown voices echo quietly in the cave as the machine turns its head to the source of the sound, the machine can barely identify the sound nor understand any of it, but it understands one thing, the bat is not the only lifeform it will find in this dark cave.
[New_objective:Investigate the sound.]

Fallen
He hadn't even gained a consciousness yet that he was bound to lose everything if he ever came to life. He hadn't offended anyone, but they offended him. He hadn't cursed anyone, they cursed him. He hadn't killed anyone, they killed everyone related to him. Thus, he silently vowed. "They plan to offend me for their own interest? I shall give them plenty of reason to do so. Do they want to curse me? Please do so, since I'm more than willing to be your living bane. Kill me? Sadly, you won't be the last having this type of wishful thinking."- The Devil -------------------- I think that I can manage 1 chapter per week now, maybe 2 but certainly not three. PS: As I think that there should be small mistakes here left and right, I'd gladly welcome a proofreader.

8 118Iron and Wood - A Tale Of Empire and Clans
For centuries, the Midlands had been split into fragments. A once glorious, united Empire has become a shadow of its former self. Unity has not returned, and not for the lack of trying. The greatest of these successor states were the Li Dynasty to the south, the rulers of old, and the Emerald Empire to the North, with its vibrant vitality. Unity is the end goal, and both will sacrifice anything to attain this elusive dream. For unity would surely solve the conflict that had long plagued this once prosperous continent. The Ironwood Clan was a prime player. Some would consider them the ones holding the reigns to the horse named 'Unification'. Iron and wood were the backbones of civilization; similarly, the Ironwoods were the backbones of the Northern Empire, and by extension, the people of the Midlands. Their methods, as questionable as they might be, had strengthened the North. Yet, were they enough? In the midst of it all, a young Ironwood who had lost his path must once again find his way. For the sake of his own wellbeing; for the sake of his clan; and for the sake of the Empire and its subjects. However, is he willing to sacrifice for the good of all? Is he willing to condemn some for the sake of others? Is he willing to make the right, albeit harsh, decisions? Only the heavens would know. Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, events and incidents are the products of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. Additionally, any views and beliefs expressed by the characters are not the author's own. The story is also not an endorsement of any actions taken within. The 'profanity' and 'sexual content' warning tags are there to be safe (and to leave room for potential future changes), but for now these two things are not inside this novel. This is my take on 'cultivation', though it might be somewhat disconnected from the general idea of the genre. Release schedule: Two chapters a week. The cover was created using wombo art. While I believe that creations using the app are in the public domain, if that is not the case, I will take it down.
