《World Merge》Prologue: Purple clouds and black rain.

Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep…
If you ever wondered what makes somebody want to be a doctor I can tell you it’s not the pager. Yes, it’s kind of cool at the beginning, like sticking needles at people or looking inside the nose of a guy but after the first year of internship the magic appeal of the pager disappears very quickly.
I woke up trashing the blankets around and looked at the bloody invention. Yes, they needed me at 2:45 in the morning. I hoped there hadn’t been an accident or I would be there until tomorrow.
Yawning I looked around for my clothes, the window was barely open but there was no light coming from outside, not even from the streetlights. It was unusually dark and I guess that should have warned me that something was going on but hey, don’t blame me, I just woke up and if you are pissed imagine how pissed I should be when I was about to be eaten by a zombie.
The pants were easy to find and the rest followed quickly. I got out of the room in the dark and went towards the kitchen but before I turned the lights on I finally saw what was happening outside.
There were clouds outside, heavy, glowing, purple clouds that looked kind of like the aurora borealis and if it wasn’t because we were closer to equator than to the poles it might have looked beautiful.
But it wasn’t beautiful. It looked weird and wrong like one of those descriptions of the apocalypses. There were people outside. I could faintly see them in the darkness, looking at the sky enthralled.
That was definitely the second clue of something going very badly but again my mind wasn’t making much sense of it. Meh, bite me I was hungry and I didn’t care much about the end of the world.

There was not much food in the fridge, not meat or beer. I was an almost vegetarian as my brother Knight liked to call it and I only ate meat when my brother invited me to dinner or something. I didn’t drink beer not since…
Well, that doesn’t really matter.
Suddenly I wasn’t hungry anymore. I looked around in the kitchen for coffee hoping there was some left. There was a bag of one of this awful coffee whose name nobody knows that I’m pretty sure I didn’t buy and probably came with the house. Yeah. Today was going to be a great day for sure. Not much left of it but who cares.
I made the coffee and it was awful, If I knew what was about to happen I would have enjoyed it more. There was silence outside, too much silence but I didn’t notice until the raining started.
I don’t need to tell you that it wasn’t a normal rain, I mean, it was black. Water it’s not usually black but maybe with so many pollution and shit, rain was now black. Yep, that was my mind agreeing with the black rain. After that I guess I was kind of looking for it.
So there was me, getting out of the house minutes later and it had stopped raining, because there was nothing weird with that.
People were still there watching at the sky like, wait for it, mindless zombies, and there was nothing wrong with that.
In fact I didn’t realize there was something wrong until I heard a grunt, almost like a dog, and then a scream. I looked around for whoever was screaming but instead there were people looking at me, people with glowing purple eyes and scarred faces. They looked like zombies.
And I ran, because everybody knows thanks to the walking dead that zombies are notoriously bad runners. Everyone but the zombies apparently, because immediately one of them ran at me, faster than me, jumped over my head, fell on the ground just on my face and stopped me.

Well shit.
Fortunately for me I had one of those old neighbors that had been on the war and everybody knew just by looking he had some relation with Rambo. He was also a very good shot because the face of the zombie literally exploded.
“GET ON THE HOUSE ADAM” he yelled from somewhere.
I didn’t have the time for that because another zombie jumped at me while the rest moved probably towards my neighbor.
I fell, the zombie moved closer to me, looking almost normal besides the glowy eyes. My hands were looking for some sort of weapon on the ground, something, whatever it was that could save me. I found a rock I yanked it from the ground and attacked the zombie in the face with it but when I made contact with the face the rock had disappeared and I just slapped him.
Let me repeat that.
I slapped a zombie in the face. Ten points.
It didn’t work, I don’t think he even noticed but some part of me liked to think that I hurt his feelings so much he had to lunge at me and kill me. That was the last thing I saw, blood coming out of my neck and more screams around.
You are dead.
