《New Reality [HIATUS]》Chapter 5: It can always get worse, and oh will it get worse

The guild leader speaks to Null. “Yes, you can help us. You see, I've heard that you have been bullying my little brother, and we demand payment.”
'Of course. I was the bully.'
“*sigh* What do I have to pay with? All I have are 10 coppers, 10 rolls, and a rusty dagger.”
The guild leader smirks saying, “Your stats.”
He swings down his sword and instantly kills Null. Null didn't even see it coming. That move was far faster than what anyone is capable of in real life.
The guild leader speaks to the rest of them, “He's either going to stall and not revive or revive in five minutes. I want everyone spread out to search for him 24/7.”
Null was in ghost form thinking, 'What the hell was that? I didn't even see it. Maybe I could run away from that kind of power if this was in real life, but right now I can do nothing against that. What can I do to solve this problem?' He racks his brain over and over but then finds a solution he's not happy with. 'There is nothing I can do against him, even if by a huge miracle I could beat him, I would still have to deal with his underlings. If I try to hide, their trackers will find me. The best plan I can think of is to just make sure he gets bored and stop. There is no plan that will work in the face of overwhelming power. Well I won't go out without a fight.'
When the screen asks him if he wants to revive, he says yes.
He revives and takes out his rusty dagger from his inventory.
Someone yells, “Boss! He's over here!”
“Ha! So he's not the type to stall out. He may be stupid, but he's got balls.”
One of the people Null fought at school, Henchman #2, ran over to him. With his reduced stats, Null can't even touch him.
“The game's a little different from real life huh? HAHAHA!” He stabs Null in the back and he instantly dies.
'Huh? I already felt weak before, but now I feel even weaker.' “Open stats screen.”

'Well isn't this just fucking dandy?' Null revives again. Henchman #1 finds him first. He has a musket.
David thinks, 'Hmm? Muskets? I wonder what time period thi-' BANG!
Null dies. Those bullies are at least level 150. Null doesn't stand a chance.
**********************************************************************************
This continues on for the rest of the day. When they finally get bored, his stats look pitiful.
The guild leader says to Null, “This concludes our repayment program. For an extra bonus, we will be blocking you from getting as many professions in this town as we can. I'm good friends with the count of this town. Good luck with the rest of your adventure in New Reality.”
They all laugh and walk off.
Null sighs. “Open stat screen.”

'With these stats, it wouldn't surprise me if I were the weakest anything in this game. The closest town is a two week walk from here. If I go as I am now, I'll get killed and just end up back in this town. It will be easier to just delete my character and start over in a different town.' “Delete character.”
System NoticeCannot delete character until level is at least 25. This is so people cannot take advantage of this system.

“Great...” 'My rusty dagger was dropped, and I only have 4 coppers, my water sack, my inventory sack, and 2 rolls left. So where do I go from here? Revenge? Nah. Too cliche. Besides, if I went the revenge route, I would have to be fair and pay at least a third of my grade back. Well I need to get my stats back to being weak instead of pitiful. Time to go to the training hall. I always loved training montages. I'll be the only one seriously training in the training hall, and everyone would be like “Why's he keep training like that?” Then I'll become super strong.'
He arrives at the basic training hall.
“You can't come in.”
“...Come again?”
“I happen to be good friends with the leader of Red Serpent Guild. When I heard about how you beat up his family and stole his possessions, it made me furious! The only thing stopping me from killing you is that I don't want to waste getting a murder mark for killing worthless trash like you. No training hall for you.”
'Ptah Dammit! Okay... so where do I go from here? I guess all I can do is hope I get lucky with a profession and get the hell out of this town.'
He arrives at the warriors guild. He first goes to the monk section.
“Sorry kid, nothing against you, but the count had specifically barred you from getting our class. You can learn the hand to hand combat skill though if you stay with us for a month.”
“No thanks.” Null knows when he's getting duped. Skills that come outside the main class and sub class level 10x slower. He would have to be a sucker to get that.
He goes to each of the different warrior branches, and they all told him the same thing.
Null then decides, 'Who wants to be a warrior anyway? Assassin was really my first choice.'
He goes to the rogue guild building. They contain the tracker, thief, and assassin classes.
He hears a familiar conversation.“You are not allowed to get the assassin class, but you can-”
“No thanks.”
He goes to the other 2 rogue classes and they told him the same thing.
'I never really, REALLY wanted to become an assassin. I've always been fond of magic.'
This scene repeats with the magic guild, artillery guild, cooking guild, alchemy guild, you get the picture.
'Fuck it. I'll just spend my time like I do in the real world and read. I don't care anymore. What was I thinking getting my hopes up like that?'
He goes on his way to the library disgruntled. He has been hungry for a while, so he eats his two rolls.
'Dammit, I need a job.' He changes course and walks to a cooking place. He asks for a job with no human contact. The boss assigns him to wash dishes.
After he's done his 4 hours of work and gets paid 20 coppers, he heads to the library and reads. He reads everything he can possibly can.
*********************************************************************
2 weeks pass in game. At first Null was pretty upset, but he actually enjoyed staying in the library. Hardly no one ever came in, and he picked up lots of information about how the world works. Apparently there was a world changing event 5 years ago in game that changed the maps of the world. No one knows who or what triggered it. The results were that the demons were pushed back into the Hado Desert, and some countries in the east gained more territory.

His stat points in intelligence and wisdom started leveling up the longer he read and problem solved. Apparently stat points lower than 10 get a faster growth until it hits 10.
When he had finished reading his 100th book, the librarian asked him if he wanted a job there. Null figured that it's better than washing dishes, so he accepted. He goes to his place of work and asks to resign.
The restaurant boss says, “I don't care what the Count says. You have been a hard worker. Take this cooking skill book on me for all the work you've done.”
“Thanks.”
Null put his hand on the book.
Cooking SkillWould you like to learn this skill?
"Yes."
Cooking Skill
“You have learned cooking skill. You are now able to cook food without it spontaneously combusting in your face or rotting. Some of the time.
The hell is wrong with this game? Well, I'm probably not going to level this skill. As long as food is edible and doesn't kill me, I don't care how it tastes.'
Null starts his work at the library the next day. At first Null had a hard time, as his stats made it so he could barely lift a book, but over time his stats recovered. He had to run all over the place, and place books in the correct place within the allotted time limit. All this so he can get paid 30 coppers a day. Null is starting to regret his decision. Well he only has to work 2 hours so its not all bad, as he spends the rest of the time reading. Besides, thanks to the work, he's getting his stats back slowly. As he reads more and more of the history books, he sees lots of things that don't add up. First, there are hints that before 2000 years ago in this world, the technology used to be far more advanced. It combined magic and technology, which Null calls magitech. It's subtle, but it's there, like someone was told to erase it and they did a sloppy job of it, or maybe someone wanted somebody to realize it. Second, there is not a single piece of information between 2000 years ago and 1800 years ago. Null checked. It's just not there.
Null brings this information to the librarian. He is far too curious. “Hey librarian lady.”
“I've told you this many times Null, call me Mrs. Allensworth.”
“Oh. Well librarian lady, there is something I'm curious about.”
“*sigh* What is it Null?”
“Two questions. First, why did the advanced technology disappear? It appears that it was forcibly removed by someone to the point that it's barely in the history books.”
“Ho- how did-?”
“Second, why is there not a single piece of history written between 2000 years ago and 1800 years ago? I checked. It's like even though the technology had to go, that was a lower priority compared to keeping the contents of that period not known. Afterwards is also conveniently the time where I never hear of the advanced technology again.” The librarian had her mouth wide open.
The librarian says, “Null, if you find any information on the missing information of the past, could you bring it to me?”
Quest: Find the missing informationQuest Information: The head librarian of the Holdendale Library asked you to find out what happened during the missing time period.
Reward: Unknown Quest Rank: A
Penalty if refused: Decreased affinity with Holdendale Library.
Failure if caught.
It would be advisable to not tell anyone that you are researching this time period.
Do you accept?
“Um, okay I guess?”
You have accepted the quest.
Null had accepted the quest without reading the information. Null then thinks, 'Hmm. I need to know what section of the library the missing information is in. Maybe I should check the quest window.'
He looks at the quest window, and is shocked to learn that he just accepted an A-rank quest.
“Wait. That was an A rank quest!? I thought I would just have to read in the library some more! The top guilds in the world, who number in the hundreds of thousands, who are top level players, have a low chance of beating an A rank, yet little ol' me has to do it by himself!?”
“You could always get people to help you.”
“HAHAHA no.”
“Well before we get off track, I want you to take this book.”
Null looks at it. Apart from the circle with a weird design on it, there doesn't seem to be anything on it.
“There's nothing written in here. The pages are blank.”
“When the time comes, that book will prove to be invaluable.”
“If you say so.”
“Well you have worked with us long enough. Would you like to be a librarian?”
“Didn't you get a cease and desist from the count?”
“No, I do not recall him telling me something like that.”
Null smirks. 'AHA! There is a class you missed you jackass!' If it were any other time, he probably would've laughed at her face for wanting him to be a librarian, but there is an old saying that beggars can't be choosers. Anyway he could probably use any stat gains he can get.
“I accept.”

*+0 to all stats. +0 to intelligence and wisdom.
*The pen is mightier than the sword. You may have heard of this in the figurative sense, but in your case it's quite literal. 99% reduction in attack with handheld weapons like swords, spears, daggers, axes, staffs, and any derivative of them.
*30% reduction in ranged weapon attack.
*2% extra attack bonus the more you learn about your opponents. Can go as high as 10% extra attack bonus.
*Monsters weakness gets marked in red either when you reach 10% extra attack bonus, or learn of the weakness through trial and error.
*Can make skill books.
Gained a new stat knowledge.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
