Well then todays chapter ! hope you will enjoy even though it is not the usual high tension conclusion as would most likely be in other stories. But its practically two baby´s battling... to the death... but you get what I mean hopefully. XD

As for the newest reviews, as i pointed out already I am not a native speaker. So if i make errors in grammar or such feel free to point them out. By myself i will most likely not find them since if I knew that certain things were wrong I would not be making the mistakes :D

Still a great thank you for the reviews, messages and comments so far ! They give quite a motivation to continue one with what I am doing.

“Well then time to take a look how well we did with the smoking!”(Me)

Night was already upon us now and the Moon high on the sky. Yeah this world also had a moon, though it was a good bit bigger than the good old one from earth. But anyway, i let them slowly take down the wall, making sure that not all of the remaining smoke drained out in one huge bout. After all who knows what could be attracted by that.

Well well, that looks pretty horrible.

The tunnel was slightly lit up by the remaining embers of our fire. But with a goblin's eye it was enough to make out some details. The whole tunnel was of course blackened by the long exposure to flame and smoke. There were some insects corpses strewn about within that the dungeon had probably wanted to send out. But they either died in the flames or suffocated with the smoke. Most likely some of them got too much poison as well.

Poison resistance is one thing. But even gob isn't totally immune against it and breathing in poisonous smoke... Well good that I am not them heh.

I instructed the goblins to stay away and not go into the dungeon just yet, apart from carefully extinguishing and smoke sources that were left. After all the fire should have consumed a good bit of oxygen and I was not quite sure that the poison would not get to them a bit either. So we waited for a time.

“Once we go in let the soldier bugs be in front and on the walls. No one rushes ahead, there might still be spiders lying in wait to ambush from above or the side somewhere. ”(Me)

I won't put up with losing any goblins or too many insects now after using so many resources to cut our manpower losses,

While we waited I instructed my people and had them check their things again. The first to go in would be the insects followed by small groups of goblins. The mages and me would follow with a larger group. Finally it seemed like it would be safe to walk in and we begun our approach.

Ahhhha somehow this is turning out to be more anticlimactic than I thought. Did we really exhaust most of it's troops already? And it really stinks, next time i'll need to have a better smelling tactic.

The whole dungeon seemed to be filled with the stench of smoke. The entrance tunnel branched off not too far into the mountain. We sent some people ahead and found that the right one led to a smaller dead ended cave. There were a good many spider corpses there. Apparently the dungeon itself had not known how to deal with such a kind of attack and who could blame an a few days old baby for that. The spiders instincts most likely had told them to get away from the fire and not to approach it. Which was a really bad decision while in such a position. I did not remain long there as the smell quite stung in my and the other goblins noses so we continued on deep into the dungeon. Occasionally there would be a a few remaining spiders but they were no enemy for the numbers we brought with us. The bugs alone swarmed each spider at least 3 to 1 so that they were taken care of swiftly.

Should i be more paranoid ? Or is it really this simple ?

The goblins seemed to be already in a festive mood but I quickly suppressed that notion.

“I'll tell you all this now, if i catch someone being off guard or slacking somewhere i will have gob bite off your family jewels. For the females i am sure i will also find some appropriate punishment.”(Me)

“Will bite !”(Gob)

“Y-Y-Yes LORD !”(Goblins)

That threat seemed to work wonder, supported by gob audibly closing his mouth with a noise that left no doubt. From then on they were keenly spying into every place that we came across for the slightest sign of a spider. I was pretty sure now they would find even the most miniscule form of a spider ambush. Since i could relax now more I looked around more thoroughly and discovered that some of the caves looked quite intriguing. There many structures that looked like they were made to have a spider net in them. Small arches and even some honeycomb-like structures.

“Guess this dungeon picked the insect dungeon evolution”(Me)

“It indeed seems so, Lord”(Gobar)

The old goblin joined me in my observation and we found some more things that we were sure would be for insects but we could not really make out it´s uses. Besides that there was of course the obligatory moss that nourished the food insects and some of the glowing mushrooms. Since there seemed to be no other thing of particular interest, we simply proceeded on. Carefully each tunnel and cave was secured as we pressed on. Of course there were some losses on our side as well during the small battles with the remaining spiders but those were all among our own insects.

Bah for the next time I need some skills myself. Just watching while being in an actual body is more than just annoying.

After a seemingly endless time of boredom we finally came to a large cave. It was at least as big as the goblin home but much more irregular. Just like a natural cave it was deformed in particular ways. There was even one larger basin filled with water in the middle. The most important thing though was in the very back.

Ahh there it is the dungeon crystal. Oh and the last stand will happen here it seems.

“Seems the dungeon has panicked huh ?”(Me)

“Indeed, Lord. How shall we proceed?”(Gobar)

How indeed.

In front of the glimmering crystal were the last defenders. A rather big batch of spiders. I was not scared that we would lose. The biggest problems of them all would be that Horde mother that was in the middle of the spiders.

“Not one of those again. Well I guess there is no need to hold back anymore. Spread out in defensive lines. Gobar and the other mages focus your spells on the big one. Go all out on them.” (Me)

My orders were followed swiftly and the mages begun their chanting. Before they had only used the lowest spells. But now they could show off their skills to the fullest. While they mumbled something I kept watch of the enemies that got riled up by our presence. The Horde Mother hissed in anger but they did not dare to approach us.

Are they scared of us ? Or do they not want to part from the dungeon crystal ? But it is time to end this little farce.

Soon the mages were done and the first stone missiles shot forth. One hit the mother directly and created a satisfying cracking sound followed by a painful hiss.

Ouch that hurt ! So is she gonna come or not?

The other two were dodged, but they still landed in the crowd of spider and smashed some of them up well. After that the mother seemed to be thoroughly enraged and gave orders.

“Kill them ! Kill them all ! We must kill them to protect our home !”(Horde Mother)

“Should have thought about that first dumb spider. It was yours that came to us first. ”(Me)

Thank god they did. This dungeon could have been a scary enemy later down the line if the got more diversity.

The spiders begun their charge again. They used the irregular cave for cover, though the mother was far too big to do so and simply rushed forward. This one was a lot thinner and more agile than the one before which was quite a scary sight.

“Spear Goblins! Keep the mother, aim for her eyes and don't take any risks. Let the mages kill her.”(Me)

5 Goblins stepped forward, they were armed with the sturdiest spears we had. It seemed like the victories up so far had greatly enhanced the goblins morale as they placed themselves forward, prepared to meet the charging spider and stop her. Though to my surprise something else stopped her. The Mother was only a few meters away as suddenly some stone knifes came flying from some of the goblins and hit the charging spider.

“Woah! Not bad.”(Me)

I looked for the throwers, spotting that is was Gobtar and some of his scout buddies. They had aimed pretty well and though 3 of them just were deflected by the chitin, the last 2 managed to hit one eye straight on and graze another. The charge faltered as the spider flinched and hissed in pain. But the other goblins didn't let her have a chance to easily recover. The spear wielders jumped forward, two of them thrust directly into the mouth section and buried the stone tips deep inside. The other ones aimed for some of the gaps in the side but were not quite as successful except for one who actually managed to thrust his spear through the crack created by the mages. By now the mother was a screeching and hissing mess like this and flailed wildly to make the goblins back off from her. The spear in her cracked chitin stayed stuck there though and the goblin retreated completely to join with his club on the other fights.

Well this is going smoother than i would believe. I'll have to prepare some good reward for all of them when we get back. But that mother is as dumb as the other, it rushed ahead like a fool.

By now the smaller spiders were arriving as well and were met by the Soldier Bugs head on. Since the goblins armed with clubs helped there was no reason to worry about them for now. What caught my eye was that Gob actually drooled and looked at the spiders in a strange mix of bloodlust and hunger.

“Go and break a leg Gob. It seems unlikely that anything will happen to me here and there are still the mages. ”(Me)

“Then gob will go to eat now !”(Gob)

A delightfully simple fellow he is.

As i watched how gob rushed forward the mages shot their next stone missiles and the distracted spider was hit directly with another few cracking sounds.

We would be really having troubles with that chitin armor if not for the mages. There was now a certain rhythm to the fight with the mother. The spear wielders would poke at her eyes and the few weak spots to distract her while the mages charged their magic. But they didn't shoot right away. The apprentices always waited until the spider tried to focus her attacks on one of the goblins to shoot theirs and disrupt the spiders attack. Only gobar shot each time as soon as he had done his preparations.

Pretty good cooperations. I guess they did some training as well.

I marveled at their teamwork. It was not perfect or up to an armies standard in its coordination but still pretty good. Meanwhile the bugs worked hard to keep the small spiders from interfering with the mother's battle. What about my spiders and slugs you might ask? Well they were spread out on the walls behind me and the ceiling above me. They kept the space there save and clean so that spider would be able to sneak in an attack out of a blind spot. Of course the Acidic slugs were directed outside the defensive lines. Would not be good if our own troops were hit by acid from above!

Meh just being a general is totally boring. I need some badass magic skills soon. Speaking of which what should i actually learn?...

Being in thoughts i just observed absentmindedly what was going on. The fight with the mother ended abruptly as one of the mages stone attacks hit an already cracked part of the chitin armor and pierced deep inside her body. With a weak hiss she collapsed and the goblins pulled back.

“No… home.. protect...”(Horde Mother)

“Too bad for you, shouldn't have put a hand…. ah… leg? On my dungeon.”(Me)

After the fight with the mother ended the other spiders were no problem anymore. The mages fired some of their stones into thicker gatherings of spiders, but the most work did the club wielding goblins now. After a little more of just standing around we were finally done and could approach the dungeons crystal now.

“So and what do we do with this now? Just smash it?”(Me)

“Well, Lord...”(Gobar)

“Ah no worries I am getting the answer”(Me)

You successfully subdued another dungeon

The other side does not submit

Beginning absorption process

Oh absorption huh?... sometimes i would appreciate some heads up about what will happen you know?

As usual I got no direct response to me question. Besides for now i was intrigued what was happening with the dungeon and watched in awe as the crystal structure begun to glow and slowly vanished. Once everything was over I turned around to the goblins and announced.

“We are done here boys and girls ! It is time to go home and i will think about what I will reward you guys with for this excellent work today ! Oh yes cut up the horde mother and take the parts along. I have some ideas for that thing.”

The goblins were cheering and delighting over this great victory and went to work quickly. It seems they were eager to return home and so we reached there faster than we had found our way here even in the dark.
