《Teaching Heroes of Might and Magic》Chapter 20: Predetermined, or Random?

After Sasha had let her emotions out, she sat by my side, but she was looking down while continuously fidgeting.
I patted her as she turned to look up at me, an incredibly pure smile on her face.
Today was chock full of emotions and feelings, but I must admit, it was a damn fine day.
I feel like Sasha and I managed to convey our feelings and help each other move on. I feel like we managed to further understand ourselves.
All in all, I am sure that both of us benefited immensely from releasing our pent up feelings.
I watched her beam with happiness as she nuzzled against my palm but I sighed internally.
These peaceful days were about to end since Sasha and I had to move on to the City of Gilleghan.
Although I had reputation and standing in the surrounding villagers and small cities, that type of standing won't be any sort of deterrent to the people who should be after Sasha.
Doven didn't explain much about them since I blew my chance to learn more by acting all knowing, but they shouldn't be weak people. I don't think the little power I've accumulated out here would serve me any purpose, so for that reason, it is time for us to leave.
Now that I was thinking about it, Roman did tell me about some strange people who were seeking information regarding Sasha and I.
If these people actually belonged to Sasha's Clan, then that meant trouble would soon be coming.
The only reason I actually spent so long out here in the outskirts of Gilleghan was because I wanted Sasha to breakthrough to the Mage rank before we moved on.
When we first came here, I originally didn't plan on staying too long, but I got complacent because of how comfortable things became.
Nonetheless, our days here are now numbered.
Within the next few days, we will have to finish packing up and leave.
It saddened me to leave behind my abode, but it isn't like my ring could carry a house now, was it.
I slowly got up and stopped patting Sasha.
Zev: “Little one, you should head outside and test out your new abilities so you can get used to your new power” as I said this, I turned Sasha around and gently patted her back “Now out you go little one” and with a small pout, Sasha stuck her tongue out at me before skipping away.
As I watched her leave the temple from the pavilion, I forgot to tell her not to head to far away from the temple on the off chance Sasha's clans people actually came.

Zev: Mustering up my vocals, I yelled out after Sasha who was just about to slip outside of the view of my vision “Don't head too far out little one” my voice spread out further then I thought it would, as if being so loud wasn't enough, an echo followed suit.
'Don't head to far out little one'
'..On't head to far out little on..'
'..n't head to far out little o..'
And like that, I listened to my voice for a good few seconds.
Sasha: After a few moments, suddenly I heard Sasha yell back at me “You don't need to scream so loudly, jeez” but her voice didn't echo and it wasn't as loud as mine either.
I scratched my head awkwardly as I realised my control over my own measly power was terrible.
Sighing, I watched her disappear out of my view before I turned back around and walked down to the basement, where I kept all of my not so important stuff.
There was quite a bit of gold and gems, which were gifted to me by the surrounding powers. An immense amount of food, as well as other miscellaneous stuff.
I looked at my nearly empty rings, which only contained my Gods Cheat Sheet, my Soul Sword, my collection of pills which included God Tier Rank 1-5 pills for both Magus and Immortals, my 100% Purity Immortal Creation Pill and the tome 'Art of Majesty'.
Aside from that, everything else I owned was currently in this basement of mine.
I suddenly remembered the Gods Cheat Sheet now that I was looking through my rings, and thought that I should check it out. Maybe I got a reward for Sasha breaking through to another rank.
Taking the sheet out, I looked down at it and a single tear rolled down my cheek.
'Quest
Part 1
Create an Entity, with a minimum of 2 'Students/Adopted Children/Priestling/Etc' and one 'Teacher/Elder/Priest/Etc'
Updated: 1 Disciple taken.
Updated 1.2: Disciple has risen in Rank to Mage.
Conditions: Must be the Best of the Best
Time Limit: ???'
I quickly turned the sheet around and I smiled in pure joy.
'1: Weapons
2: Clothing
3: Resources
4: Special
5: Immortal Practitioner
6: Magus
7: Favors
Primal Points: 100
Token: x1 [May be redeemed for Predetermined Gift Chest] [May be redeemed for 'Random']
As I read those two final lines, I felt both immense joy and shock.
100 PP wasn't really a lot, but I didn't have much hope of getting PP for a breakthrough in the first place.

What was really shocking was the x1 Token which could be redeemed for a 'Predetermined Gift Chest' or for a 'Random'.
Just the thought of Random made me shiver in fear.
I had wasted 300 PP on Random and got 1 very rare item which I may not ever use.
But I could still get something very incredible from Random.
On the other hand, I don't know what was in the Predetermined Gift Chest.
Who knew what was in it?! It was pretty much equal to Random to me since I didn't know what was in either of them.
I sighed as I stroked my mild beard which had grown over the past few years.
My beard wasn't really that long, but it was nice and thick, and I thought it looked good on me.
Nonetheless, I had to choose whether or not to take the Predetermined Gift Chest or risk the Random.
This was a serious headache inducing question.
I have come to absolutely hate gambling ever since I lost 300 PP, but I still had to make a choice.
Do I shake hands with the devil and choose Random, or do I believe in the Gift Chest and choose what was predetermined.
I... Couldn't really make a choice.
I honestly didn't know what to do.
So I did what anyone else would do in this situation. I pushed it back on the list of things I had to do.
It went from 1st to 2nd.
The thing that was second on the list of things I had to do, had now become first, and that thing was to find Sasha another Art to study since she had now mastered the 'Art of Majesty'.
I looked through the lists of tomes and spells for Magus to find something that suited Sasha, but for 100 PP, I was unable to find anything half decent.
I was tempted to buy a skill called 'Bananaformation', which allowed one to turn things into banana's.
But I honestly didn't want Sasha to hate me over a joke. The spell only cost 10 PP, so it is worth it in terms of price versus use.
I mean, imagine the shock an enemy would have when their weapon or talisman or whatever they were using, turned into a banana.
That short moment of distraction is all you would need to win the battle.
Nonetheless, I got rid of that thought and tried to find another art for Sasha to practice.
Surprisingly, I managed to find an art which wasn't all that bad.
It was called 'Purity of a Child' and it had the capability of boosting ones willpower and soul immensely.
This was a good art for Sasha as it would allow her to shirk off the powerful aura of those stronger than her.
And on the off chance someone had the ability to take control of her body, she would be able to hopefully defend against that.
I chose that tome and bought it.
It cost me 75 PP, leaving me with a meagre 25 PP.
Shortly after I bought it, my palm glowed for a moment before a beautifully designed book appeared.
It oozed innocence and made me feel happy and calm just by looking at it.
Its appearance was also cute, with its light blue colour and small size.
I put the tome into my ring and then looked back at the sheet and decided to choose the predetermined gift.
I prayed that it was a good gift, and if it wasn't, I'd simply curse at Zoras till I calmed down.
I breathed in and out a few times till I was certain of what I going to do and then I chose the Predetermined gift.
Suddenly, in front of me appeared a large chest which calmly sat there.
It didn't spasm wildly like 'Random' did. It simply sat still.
I edged closer to the chest very slowly till I was right in front of it before I breathed in and forced the chest open.

Hey guys, I hope you enjoy the chapter.
I only proofread it once, so it may or may not possess a few errors. If it does, my bad, but I am really sleepy now, so I'll proofread it again when I make up.
That aside, I finally reached Chapter 20 (Chapter 22, if I count the Interlude and the Prologue), which is a milestone! That is 1/5 out of a Hundred Chapters!
I hope you all enjoyed the the ride till this point, and I hope you continue to accompany the deeper we go!
On that side note, if anyone is capable of drawing a decent cover art for free, I'd be really thankful. I mean, you don't have to, but it would be nice HueHueHue.
Also, I am terrible at writing a synopsis, so if anyone has a better synopsis for me to use, please do tell. My current one doesn't really explain what the story is about, or atleast I feel that way.
Anyway, the long rant aside, Thank you for reading my story.
Love and Peace,
-Old Man

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.

There are many secrets left to discover. A man cloaked by mystery and power works from the shadows, he has been given the tools to ensure humanity’s place in the Universe. The future of humanity, how much is it worth? Beyond Humanity will consist of three novels and all will be published in this sequence of chapters. The chapter POVs will rotate between Beth and Milo but with some guest inclusions of other characters. A new chapter will be published every Sunday, and whenever extra words drip off my fingers.

Pursued by gangsters and police, disgraced by his own family, yet loved by some people as they believed he was doing the right thing, cleaning the garbage from the streets. Not a hero, neither a villain, just a human flesh and blood, accomplishing what governments in years couldn't. However, no matter how strong you are or how fast you move, you are one against an army, and soon or later you will fall on your knees. The time comes for all of us and Jager isn't an exception. Genre: Male lead, anti-hero, a little of LitRPG, Harem, fantasy, romance and reincarnation.(I don't know if I'm going to end this in fantasy but for now the true genres are: Noir, horror action, male lead, anti-hero, gore, assassin mc, contemporary and tragedy) Schedule: Not a fixed one, although I will try to write new chapters every month. Remember this isn't real.
