《Teaching Heroes of Might and Magic》Chapter 14: Image is a very powerful tool
Advertisement
I watched as a man who possessed enough power to kill me instantly, knelt before me to beg for forgiveness.
A man who could move at speeds my eyes could not follow.
The power of ones image was truly powerful. A mere bluff could reduce a man to such a state.
And as if that wasn't enough, he had even broken through to a higher level. How the fuck does something like that even happen?
What did I say that made him break through? All I told him was that he didn't have to do anything as I wasn't angry in the first place.
And he broke through with that!
Leaving that aside, he had kowtowed so many times. Did that have a meaning? I mean, he did 7 in total, and that seemed planned. He had kowtowed once more at the end and was still kowtowing. What was the meaning of this final one?
I was panicking on the inside. I mean, what the fuck was I supposed to do right now? What do I say?
What do I say to a guy, when my disciple had caused a civil war in his sect?
Was I supposed to bless him? Talk to him? Offer him guidance? The fuck did he expect from me?!
How did I tell him to get up off the ground? He was still kneeling.
I turned towards the girl that caused all of my problems.
The stupid girl had destroyed my little house and then caused a fucking civil war for the Tzun Rei Sect.
Such a problem child. Not only that, but seeing me glare at her, she just looked at the ground and mumbled some words very softly as she cried.
When she was this adorable and in such a sorry state, I lost my anger towards her, but I still needed some way to resolve the current problem.
Looking around, I saw the other sect members all tensed up. This was terrible fucking news for me.
When an animal is cornered far enough, it would snap and attack even if it was much weaker than its predator.
In this instance I was the predator, but I was far weaker than the prey.
Fucking hell. Oh my god. If they snapped, I'd be fucked.
I had to calm them all down, but my question was how?!
How did I calm this group of people down. Do I just say calm down? No, I can't say that. Saying 'Calm down' never calmed anyone down. That would only make them angrier.
The atmosphere was getting more and more tense as these two factions within the Tzun Rei sect stared at each other, at me and at Rei Ling.

They were trying to figure out what to do, just like me.
If I just let them go, wouldn't they be suspicious? I mean, imagine if you pissed off a powerful person, and then all of a sudden they just let you go. You'd be paranoid for weeks, if not months.
Suddenly, I got a brilliant idea.
I could just say that even though I had forgiven them and wasn't going to punish them, the young needed to learn how to be humble, so for that reason, the younger generation as payment for causing such an incident today, can rebuild my house and then I would forget everything that happened today.
That way, no one is suspicious and everyone gets to go home happily.
Hopefully it would work.
So I breathed in calmly, relaxed my nerves and prepared my little speech.
Seeing as I was about to speak, everyone turned to look at me, including Sasha and Rei Ling, who was tilting his head to the side to be able to see.
Zev: “Rise” I spoke out loud in my most majestic tone towards Rei Ling, who got up slowly “Like I said, I never planned on giving out punishment in the first place, but the events of today was caused by the young ones” and as those words left my lips, all the brats who had caused this incident, including Sasha began to visibly shake.
Rei Ling looked a tad bit disheartened, but he simply nodded to my words and everyone awaited to see exactly what I was going to do.
Zev: “They must learn how to be humble, for that reason, as a light punishment, the young ones will rebuild my little abode without the aid of their cultivation” with that I turned towards Sasha “You as well” and then I nodded to myself happily.
I had managed to make everyone happy. Probably.
At least this way I lessened the hatred between us, since I was punishing Sasha as well.
It wasn't really a harsh punishment, but for these young masters to do heavy labour, should be quite humbling.
Hearing my words, almost every single person in the surrounding area, including Sasha and Rei Ling, breathed out a humongous sigh of relief, which then caused me to breathe out in relief.
The atmosphere completely changed and the tense atmosphere was gone. Well almost. The other half of the Tzun Rei Sect, those who were allied with Goan Tou, had sadness plastered upon their face.
All of them looked towards Rei Ling, who was also looking back at them.
I just realised that Rei Ling was probably going to get rid of them all. He was going to kill one half of the cultivators of his sect.

Everyone else also realised this as I stared towards Goan's people.
Rei Ling bowed towards me slightly before walking towards the members of Goan's sect, specifically the son of Goan Tou, Goan Gou.
Goan Gou looked quite manly as he stood proudly. He had two tear stains running down his cheeks, and his eyes were red.
Hatred, sadness, anger, and a mixture of other emotions was visible from his eyes as he stared at Rei Ling.
It was at this moment, that I realised I may have made a shitty decision. Did I want a kid whose father had just died in front of him because of me, to rebuild my house? That took being an asshole to a whole other level.
In a few seconds Rei Ling had finished his little walk and now stood in front of Goan Gou.
Much to every single persons surprise, including mine, he did the opposite of what he expected.
Rei Ling: “I'm sorry” as the words left his mouth, everyone was shocked. He was sorry for killing Goan Tou? The man who rebelled against the sect “I know you may not forgive me, and I know you may hate me, so for that reason, I won't force you or any of the others who loved your father into staying within the sect” I was shocked when I heard those words.
He was not only sparing them, he was letting them go. That was very magnanimous. Did he suddenly have a change of heart and personality after going through a life and death moment?
Goan Gou: “You- What? I- You- What?” the kid looked shocked as well, that his fathers killer was not attempting to kill him and was instead apologising “Sorry?” the kids voice was quite hoarse “You kill my father, then tell us we can go, and all you say is Sorry?!” Goan Gou yelled this time, his tears flowing freshly “Why don't you just kill us and get it over with? You think we need your pity!” Goan Gou ended up kneeling into the ground as he couldn't control his emotions.
Rei Ling had a pained look upon his face as he stared at Goan Gou.
I didn't know what to say. This was quite incredible. Such an incredible drama.
Rei Ling: “I don't expect you to forgive me, but I expect you to live on for your father” Rei Lings voice was tinged in sadness “I realised after the events of today, that the reason such a rift appeared within out sect was because of myself” as he said this everyone was focusing on Rei Ling to hear his confession “It was because I was selfish, greedy and narrow minded that things degenerated to such a degree within our sect, and I've decided to change my ways, starting with you”.
With that, Rei Ling slowly moved his hand towards Goan Gou's head, his hand looked like he was about to pat the brat, but then Rei Ling pulled his hand back and sighed deeply.
He then took one of the rings on his finger off and dropped it into Goan Gou's hands before turning around to walk towards his own people.
I wonder what was in the ring. Maybe it was... Goan Tou?
That aside, the sudden change in events made the atmosphere quite sombre, and no one managed to say anything.
A sad silence enveloped everyone here.
I turned towards Sasha who was kneeling on the ground and crying. It seemed like today's events were far too powerful for a mere child.
Add to the fact that she was the cause of today's events.
No matter how powerful a child she was, she was in the end, a little girl.
Sighing, I knelt down before her and hugged her, gently patting her head as she let her emotions out.
After entering my embrace, she began to cry harder as she held onto me.
When she tried to talk, I just shushed her and told her to let it all out.
Like that, a good 15 minutes passed as everyone was adapting to their new found mental state.
The young men and women of the clan had changed immensely. It was visible with a single glance at any of them.
The atmosphere had returned to normal awhile ago, and the two groups had come together. A peaceful feeling was in the air.
I sat down with Sasha who was quietly sleeping with her head on my lap, as I stared towards Rei Ling who was sitting alone with Goan Gou roughly 100 or so metres away.
I couldn't really hear them properly since my senses were not that powerful, but I could see their movements and emotions.
It looked like Goan Gou had not forgiven Rei Ling for what he had done, while Rei Ling simply had a pained look upon his face.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
