《(Dropped) Crown of the martyr and martyr of the Crown.》Carnival (03-12)

"Here we are," Irwyn whispered as they sneaked up to the secret entrance of the Black city. He had travelled here with Alice, Desir and Elizabeth semi-incognito, naturally, they weren't wearing obviously Blackburg clothing and wouldn't walk through the identification at the front gate. The respect people had towards the Blackburg house, and to an extent towards its servants, often bordered on fear and caused most people to become unnaturally cautious.
"So what exactly are we here for," Desir asked as soon as they had entered into the city.
"As I have said: to relax," Irwyn smiled and exclaimed, "Today could be considered special. Entertainers from faraway had just arrived in in the North on a tour of all things merry. It just happens that they are hosting a full-blown carnival in the Black city this week," as he spoke Irwyn already began to walk through the complex of alleys and the rest followed him.
"Carnival?" Elizabeth seemed puzzled by the unfamiliar word and even Alice who still seemed to be feeling down about what she went through yesterday seemed to perk up a bit with curiosity.
"A tradition from a foreign land," Desir said before Irwyn had the chance, "From what I have heard it originates all the way from the Southern continent and is mostly proliferated by their numerous exiles. I don't know many more details though."
"You are correct," Irwyn smiled, "The land of technology is almost incomparably different from the North. From a peasant to an overlord, people fundamentally behave and live utterly unlike here. The meaning of carnival is similar to what a festival is to us, and you will see the differences for yourself one we reach the more populated streets."
"How different could the lives of people be?" Elizabeth wondered or loud.

"Extremely, the North and the South are built upon completely opposite principles," Irwyn calmly explained, "The North is called the land of mages, and that is no coincidence. The extremely high number of talented magicians born here is undoubtedly related to to the thick mana penetrating every corner and nook of the continent. As we remind ourselves on the festivals of Dragoncull, that is thanks to the corpse of an arch-dragon nurturing these lands. When we eventually step onto the soil of Central continent you will quickly notice the quantity and quality of mana decline, and that trend only grows more intense towards the South. On the Southern continent, natural mana is so scarce that mages are rarely ever born, and those few that are always were and always will be subpar. As a result, rather than the hegemony of mages that reigns the North, the South embraces different values."
"Such as?" Elisabeth seemed very intrigued and surprisingly even Desir's eyes showed some interest.
"The best example would be the ideology spread by their leaders called fanatic manaphobia. It decrees magic to be the source of all evil, claiming that those who use it are corrupted beyond redemption. Under its rule, casters are hunted down and then either chained for the rest of their lives or executed."
"How could anyone support that?!" Alice explained in disbelief, for a moment forgetting her terrible mood. It seemed as though she had been paying far more attention than she let on.
"Not only is it supported, it is dominant," Irwyn scoffed, "About 99% of the populous there is convinced of the ideology's preachings and those who disagree are ostracized and then inevitably either silenced or exiled."
"That's terrible," Alice seemed appalled. Meanwhile Desir had another question in mind: "Then the people organising this carnival are among those who disagreed and were exiled. A Southern tradition will not have mages casting wondrous spells or preparing astonishing formations. What exactly makes this event interesting?"

"Here in North we solve everything with magic. We fight wars through magic, overcome adversity with magic, and even entertain ourselves by using magic," Irwyn smiled just as laughs of children as well as other less distinct noises sounded in the distance, marking their approach of the main streets and squares, "In the South they adopted… different measures to bind the forces of the universe, and that eventually earned them the name 'land of technology'," just as Irwyn finished speaking they left another alleyway and finally appeared on a crowded street. With a quick glance they immediately noticed various out of place constructs in the direction of the loudest noise.
"Is that huge thing really moving without magic?" Alice stared at one of the machines with doubt.
"Shall we head in? I believe you will find this interesting," Irwyn did not answer, instead he lead way. Just before the large square there stood a quickly put up barricade of steel fences.
"Wouldn't it be easier to just break through?" Elizabeth was not amused as they stood in the line in front of the only checkpoint, "The fence doesn't seem that solid."
"It's not designed to stop a rampaging mage," Desir chuckled on the side, "It's there so that people can't just sneak in."
"We could probably jump over before anyone notices" Elizabeth held on to the hope of skipping the line.
"That wouldn't work," Irwyn smiled at three impatient girl, "They distribute identification at the entrance. Just hold on for a bit longer, it's almost our turn."
After Irwyn spoke Elizabeth no longer brought anything of the sort up and patiently waited in the line. When they got near the front they noticed that the staff were distributing simple green coloured bracelets to anyone who paid the entrance fee. Seeing the amount of money taken for each entry made Desir flinch. The fact that Irwyn then ordered 'VIP' entrance and handed over 2 gold coins did not help as Desir nearly collapsed in an exaggerated gesture, much to the amusement of Elizabeth and even Alice.
Having paid the significantly higher fee, the group was presented with significantly different armbands. What was brought to them were almost pieces of art thanks to their intricate design and various images portrayed by the material; that was all the more impressive since the pieces were completely identical. Moreover, a trace of magic was clearly contained within the materials.
"This is a robbery!" Desir scowled as soon as they were out of earshot, looking over the new embroidery around his wrist.
"You will get used to it," Alice chuckled, already adapted to the unholy the amount of money Irwyn had at his disposal. Thankfully it looked like her state of mind had mostly recovered.
"Now then, this is a rare occasion," Irwyn beckoned them with a smile on his face, "If you would follow me, let's have a good time."

Two decades afterward, a dying man tries to escape from death’s grip by doing something that nobody but a desperate man would do. He uses one of the machines… and is transported to another world. The False Paladin
Divine Paladins, a title given to those who were blessed with the Lord's Favor, are the pillars of the kingdom of Calorin. However, a kingdom cannot simply be built from ideals of honor and duty. Sir Roel, the 58th Divine Paladin, knows that he's no hero. His sword is fake, his actual powers are middling, and his thoughts grow more cynical with every passing day. Upon receiving his next task, an order to assassinate a member of royalty, he wonders if the only thing he can do is bow his head and obey. Set in a medieval-era world in which brute strength is often subordinate to the schemes and machinations of the ruling class, this is a low fantasy story about a hero who struggles not only against monsters but also the idea that he's supposed to be the one fighting them. This fiction updates once to twice a week and each chapter is a minimum of 1000 words.

Prio's Notable Past
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Narrative notes written in the perspective of Prio from before she met Ted. This is a Respec Ted sidestory. This book follows Rita, a filipino nursing student, who, with her brother, enters "Mayhem of the Macrocosm". She eventually becomes Prio, the golden haired soaring monkey, as seen in Respec Ted. Please be aware: Prio's Notable Past is written as part of Royal Road's Writathon 2021, I recommend using the "Read Later" button and read it after the marathon, as I may be shuffling around and writing additions to all the chapters throughout the marathon.

Alternate Worlds
This is actually a group of short stories I did some time ago. The first group are 3 stories, all starring the same Protagonist but with different foes and ways of how the stories play out. Past this I have other story lines that I have done this with and will likely use this heading to put them out there. - Note: The Book Picture is the location of the Portal the car went through. There are 4 such statues set across from each other and then two of the large pillars, set across the street from one another. New Story Line: Lost is about a man lost in a world that Used to have summoned hero's, ones where the mages who did the summonings did not close the pathways properly, so sometimes people from all across time, space, and dimension end up falling in to their world. Some become heroes, some 'Demon Lords' and some something else. I have 3 versions of this story which I will put here, one chapter a day. 2cd version was massively flawed, which I only realized while sharing it. As such I am skipping it and moving on to the 3rd version. The 3rd Story of Lost is about a man who mysteriously fell in to a world based on video games, complete with leveled zones, levels of skills, professions and so forth. Being from a world like ours, with the knowledge of these things, gives him a decided edge and better potential than normal. --------------------------------------- New story - New Life, Old Soul is the story of a man who used desperate experimental magic to grant himself a new life in a new world. This is an Iseki story with a single twist as no outside force dropped or summoned this soul to its new life. Come and see what sort of world and life this willing traveler of Realities unknown experiences. I will try and post once a day, though times may vary depending on my the wierdness that is my life. ^-^ ------------------------------ Cosmic Chaos A Void Maker tried to destroy several realities, by forcing their crystal shells in to each other. The AOs of those realms fought back the best they could, including a desperate play of opening random portals between the divergent universes and the void. Several things, peoples, and animals fell through these portals. In the grand scheme of things very little of this had long reaching consequences. However, Some of these universes gained new time lines from these events. This is a story of one such event, of one very lost traveler dropped in to a very different world than the one he came from. Sage ▸ Stiles Stilinski [Book One]
"You do realize that I'm supposed to tell you when you're throwing yourself into a dangerous situation and that doing this will probably get you killed, right?" "I don't need you to take care of me, Sage." "Says the werewolf that fell into the floor." Sage Connelly was notoriously known for the fire that killed her entire family when she was only ten years old. Granted, that name held importance for an entire year before people eventually forgot about the Connelly's and the other family involved in the fire, the Hale's. Nearly six years later, when the little girl is not so little anymore, Sage comes back with more than just a leather jacket hanging on her shoulders. She comes back with a personality distinctly different from what her old friends remembered, not only stunning Jackson Whittemore into silence but efficiently taking away Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski's ability to talk about the dead body found in the woods the night before. Even more, the bite on Scott's body that held an importance only two people in town could help him with: Sage, to her dismay, was one of them. When Derek Hale calls upon her help, giving her the title of Scott McCall's personal babysitter, she's inevitably forced to tag along with the boy's trusty side-kick. The introverted and overly, well, intimidating qualities that the blonde had lead Stiles Stilinski into an unfathomable struggle of convincing himself that Sage Connelly was just a crush, and that Lydia Martin would forever be the one holding his heart. That lasted as long as the one-way conversation the boy had with the strawberry blonde in the middle of a hospital. His downward spiral leads him directly into the arms of a stubborn, damn blonde that was confident she didn't need a boy in her life that was still tripping over an elementary school crush.
