《Devil Cultivator in an Ability User World》(Rewritten) Chapter 10 - Sparring and Troy's Big Mistake
Advertisement
As Damien was sleeping he was shaken awake by someone.
Opening his eyes he saw Michael and Damien was briefly surprised before he remembered where he was. Standing up, Damien was shown a parcel by Michael. According to Michael, it was left in front of their door with his name on it, he then informed Damien that he got one as well and he was waiting for Damien to get up to open it with him.
Opening up the parcel and looking inside, they both saw black skin-tight body suits that seemed to be extremely elastic, probably to fit all sizes. There was a note stuck on it, presumably from their teacher, which said that they should put this on and meet her in the lobby at 7:30. As Damien and Michael had finished reading the note, they looked at the clock in the room and it read 7:25 am, their faces both paled instantly but for different reasons.
Damien's face paled for the fact that he might have missed out on sparring if he was late and Michael's because he didn't want Mrs. Quila to shout at him.
Both the young boys quickly put on the black body suits and ran towards the lobby where pretty much everyone was waiting, along with an impatient looking Mrs. Quila.
"What took both of you so long?" she spoke in a stern voice and her face had little to no leniency on it. As he heard her say this, Michael was about to step forward when Damien put his hand on his shoulder and stepped forward himself.
"Sorry Miss, it was my fault, Michael was held back by me because I didn't get up early enough haha..." speaking with an embarrassed smile on his face, he scratched the back of his head, while nervously laughing. Mrs. Quila seemed surprised by the fact that Damien would own up to it being his mistake, it was quite an unusual trait for a young child to have but a good one nonetheless.
"Nevermind, as long as you know what you did is wrong and don't do it again, it's okay. Anyway, now that everyone is here, let's go!" Damien looked up at her in surprise, he was quite sure she'd have a massive go at him to make an example but it seems she's more interested in if the person can admit their own wrongdoings. After thinking that he shrugged his shoulders thinking it was her job to teach but it wasn't his job to judge the way she teaches.
As they were all walking, Damien and Michael moved over to where Scarlet, Helen, and Beth were.
When the girls saw them, Helen waved and greeted them, while Beth simply smiled and nodded at them and Scarlet just nodded at them. They waved back at Helen and greeted all 3 of the girls with smiles.
After the greeting, Damien started to think about the impending fights.
This seemed to change Damien a little bit, the change was small but it was like a sleeping beast had awoken. Damien usually had a carefree attitude and smile on his face but now, that was gone, replacing it was an expression of seriousness, eyes filled with fighting intent and excitement. His attitude had turned from carefree to vigilant and seemed like the attitude a predator would have when on a hunt.
All the others didn't really see this change and those who did chalked it up to Damien being nervous and him just putting on a hard face to seem cool or something. But Scarlet saw this change and she was slightly terrified by it.
This is the change that her usually loving Father would go through whenever they trained together or when he was about to fight and when he did either of those two things, he was brutal, relentless and he was indifferent to the damage he caused. But most importantly, indifferent to the pain he caused her and indifferent to the effects his actions had, he just did what had to be done.
And to see this in one of her classmates unsettled her but more than anything, it excited her because she may have found an opponent that she can strive to be like and an opponent that can push her past her limits.
As she was thinking this, Damien was like a ball of excitement and he was struggling to control it, he could only hope that he could fight soon before it all broke out and he did something stupid.
Damien couldn't quite understand why he was so excitable. He'd have thousands upon thousands of fights in his past life, so to be excited about a simple fight between kids seemed a bit odd. He couldn't help but think his Devil Genes and young body were affecting him quite heavily.
'Hmm...Devils were known to be maniacs when it came to battle and in this childish body their instincts may be more...prevalent.'
After thinking about this for a while, Damien shrugged it off, feeling that it was an unneeded worry. So what if he enjoyed battle more? He'd find a way to deal with it if it became a problem.
As they went to the same platform that led down to the training grounds, Damien's pondering had given way for excitement which had turned his serious looking face into a smile that contained a hunger and while it was not the usual hunger a person would feel, it was as if it were more voracious than a starving man's hunger. It was a smile that told any who saw it, that the person who had this smile was hungry for battle.
As soon as they reached the platform and got to the training grounds, Mrs. Quila walked up to a console that appeared out of nowhere and typed some things in and then a single 40m by 40m fighting ring came up from the grey tiles.
"Okay, now I'm going to pick the matches that I want to see. I want to see Damien vs Helen first, Scarlet vs Beth, Helen vs Scarlet, Beth vs Helen, Michael vs Troy and Damien vs Troy. If I need to see anymore we'll do them after those 6 matches."
Damien clenched his fists, happy that he gets to fight first but also excited because he gets to use his ability in a battle for the first time in this life.
Shaking his head to clear up his mind, he and the rest of the group walk over to the arena before Damien and Helen both step up onto it, as they did Helen, as usual, spoke up.
"Well well well Damien, looks like we've got to fight and I've got a reputation as the older twin to keep, so I'm gonna have to win~" she spoke in a jovial manner but her eyes were vigilant, as she'd seen Damien's strength.
"Well, you can try, Helen, you can try..."
As soon as he spoke this he shot off from where he was standing with a Concentrated Step and he appeared in front of her. He was twisting his body to deliver a kick to her stomach but she brought all the darkness from her shadows and made a compact shield and stopped Damien's kick. But what she didn't expect was that her barrier was starting cracking when Damien continued to push.
"It's gonna take more to stop me than that Helen, come on, I'm hurt you'd think a flimsy barrier could stop me~" as he smilingly teased her, he pushed with his leg even further and completely broke the barrier.
To Damien's surprise, Helen didn't answer to his teasing and she simply swiped her hand and suddenly Damien's sense of danger went through the roof. So instead of pushing forward, he jumped backward and when he saw what she'd been planning to do to him, he smiled. She'd summoned a wall of darkness with spikes covering it and tried to hit him with it.
Seeing that she could probably take it, he enhanced his entire body with 0.5% of the Power Pool and charged at her again this time with an even stronger Concentrated Step that cracked the floor he'd pressed off of.
As she saw Damien shoot towards her again she lifted her hands and summoned spikes of darkness from the floor in front of Damien's charge, thinking that Damien couldn't turn direction when he did that sudden increase in speed.
Seeing this Damien smiled and using his superior control over his physical energy and body he swerved to the side and out of the way of those spikes.
As she saw Damien do this, Helen finally panicked because she couldn't think of any ways to stop him. It was like he could control every bit of physical energy in his body and redirect it at what whim came to mind.
Despite her panic, Helen wasn't useless, she quickly summoned two snake-like entities which were her last resort when it came to battle and she controlled them to attack Damien.
As the 2 shadow snakes came at him, Damien felt alive.
His instincts screamed for battle and with the 2 snakes about to hit him, he couldn't ask for anything more.
One going for his neck while the other trying to wrap around his legs and even as it wrapped around his legs, it couldn't stop him. This utterly surprised all those who were watching but Damien didn't care because the snake that was going for his neck was incredibly close to biting him.
Keeping his calm, Damien simply pushed his hand towards it and released the physical energy in his finger in a flicking motion at the snake.
*Boom!*
As the finger touched the snake it blew apart like it was made of tissue paper. When the snake tangling its way around his legs tried to bite him, Damien reached down and simply ripped it off his legs and crushed it.
As all this was happening Helen stared dumbly at Damien.
She couldn't help feeling annoyed that she had to fight such a monster. She'd tested her shadow snakes before and they could easily rip a tree apart but here her friend was, taking them apart like they were made of wet paper.
After he'd disposed of the snakes he gathered his strength and directed it into his feet before he leaped at Helen, putting a knife hand at her throat.
"You lose, Helen~" Damien's voice had an odd twist to it but Helen could tell he was joking about with her and didn't mean to be malicious about it. But Mrs. Quila, on the other hand, was a bit worried about it.
The person she was looking at looked like a berserker who had finally awakened after not fighting in decades, he had a manic expression and eyes that seemed to scream 'Fight me'. This only served to make his yellow eyes look even more bright and menacing.
But when he saw he had beaten Helen he drew in his mania, much to the relief of Mrs. Quila, and walked off the arena and sported an apologetic smile towards Helen.
"Sorry, it's just been so long since I last had a fight. I got a bit overexcited..." Damien spoke with an apologetic expression as he helplessly explained how he loves to fight but hasn't done so in a 'while'. To his surprise, Helen just smiled at him and said it was okay and that she wasn't really hurt anywhere so it doesn't matter. She also mentioned that he opened her eyes up to some of the weaknesses in her Umbrakinetic Constructs.
As they both walked back to the rest of the group, the next people started walking up to the stage.
Beth and Scarlet both went to opposite sides of the stage and simply nodded at each other, unlike Helen and Damien's bantering before their fight.
As soon as this was done Beth got into a stance that would allow her to dodge left or right if need be, as Scarlet closed her eyes for less than a second as she summoned her green and brown aura.
As soon as that was finished her eyes shot open as she charged forward at an amazing speed. But Beth seemed like she could still follow her movement, although barely, and as she was watching Scarlet charge at her she swiped her hand and in the middle of the motion she clicked her fingers.
*Screech!*
The sound made shot towards Scarlet in a crescent shape. Seeing this attack Scarlet evaded but she let her guard down in the process so when Beth turned the ball of sound downward Scarlet was caught by it even as she moved to the side.
Beth angled the blade to catch Scarlet's left upper arm and as it hit Scarlet let out a grunt.
Beth gave Scarlet no time to rest as she continued to click her fingers and send sound blades at her. In response, Scarlet changed the green in her aura to a blue and then ran at the sound blades with a lot less speed but a greater amount of control and coordination and as the blades reached her she started dodging them with unnatural grace and precision while she slowly edged her way towards where Beth was standing.
Beth didn't seem to panic at all, she looked as calm as always and then she spoke.
It was inaudible but a visible ripple came from her mouth and the sound from her surroundings was drawn in front of her and was flung as a net of sound towards Scarlet to stop her advance. Once the net was near her, Scarlet's aura changed again, the blue was replaced with a fiery red and along with the brown she looked at the net and pulled back a punch and threw it.
*SHATTER!*
Scarlet's punch tore through the net and then her aura switched back to a green and she charged forward at Beth once again with amazing speed.
When she got close she was prepared to throw Beth off the stage but then she saw Beth smile. It was the kind of smile that you'd pull when you knew you'd won a game and seeing this smile Scarlet instantly felt danger and she tried to retreat but she was already too close. Beth opened her mouth and spoke, again it was barely audible but Damien could read her lips this time and found that she's said 'Punch this'.
Damien chuckled as he thought about how Beth secretly pretty competitive.
Once she spoke a wave of sound pushed out from her mouth and threw Scarlet backward and finally off the stage.
The next two matches were quite normal compared to the first two, Helen lost against Scarlet and kept mumbling about how she'd had to fight two monsters in a row and then she proceeded to win against her sister, but only barely.
Now it was Michael vs Troy and from the way Troy looked at Damien, Damien could feel that he was about to do something troubling. As Troy looked at Michael he smirked.
"Oi trash, you think by hanging out with Damien you'll be able to get an easy ride through the academy? And you, Mr. Big Man Damien, don't think you're any different, you're still trash no matter what." by the end of his sentence his smirk had turned into an unnaturally dark smile.
Seeing this Michael flinched but he looked towards the group and saw Damien watching from the sidelines with a frown on his face. Thinking about how he finally got a friend and how this person in front of him was trying to get to his friend through him, for the first time in his life, Michael stood up for himself. He was furious that someone would try to insult his friend and before he knew his face lost his usual nervous demeanor and he shot an angry look at Troy
"You're pretty much only saying that because you're jealous of Damien, go bug someone else, he doesn't care, neither do I!" Michael shouted this, his face full of anger and his eyes ablaze with it as well. Damien who heard this realized that Michael was sticking up for him and smiled thinking that he was glad that he had been nice to his shy dorm mate.
But Troy, when he heard this, seemed to snap under the anger that Michael's reply caused in him.
Arcs of electricity suffused throughout his body and he charged towards Michael.
In response, Michael summoned an Ice Shield before he summoned multiple Ice Spikes and fired them at Troy. The spikes shot at Troy with unbelievable speed but Troy simple dodged them or deflected them with his surprisingly high technique. Before long he got nearer to the Ice Shield that Michael had made and the electricity surrounding Troy centered around his legs and his speed increased even further.
Once Troy was near the shield he pulled back his fist and smashed through the shield like it was made out of dry mud, Michael didn't panic, he seemed to have a plan.
When Troy walked through the remnants of the shield he had a disdainful smirk on his face but Michael looked at him with calm eyes and motioned Troy to come at him, taunting him.
It worked and Troy ran at Michael with enough force to crack the ground and speed up even further. Seeing the speed, it was at this point that Michael knew he'd underestimated Troy. He'd put a sheet of ice on the floor behind the shield and he'd originally planned for Troy to run over it and then he'd freeze his feet with the ice, then Michael would incapacitate him once he was covered in ice.
But it seems that Troy's steps seemed to just shatter the ice he stepped on and Michael couldn't follow Troy's legs to freeze them either, so his plan went completely out the window.
Troy saw the ice he was crushing and started laughing as he neared where Michael was standing.
"Hahahaha! You thought some little bit of ice on the ground would be able to stop me from beating the ever living shit out of you? You were so very, very wrong Michael." as he kept speaking his disdainful smile and laughter faded into a solemn and serious voice and visage.
Michael stood his ground and tried to fire some Ice Spikes at him but before he could do that, Troy had planted a fist right into his Solar Plexus, knocking the breath out of him.
As Michael fell over Troy planted a foot on his face and pushed his head against the ground.
"You're just trash, don't think that you can go up against someone like me. Unlike a loser like you, I actually have plans for my life."
He slowly bent over and picked Michael up by his collar before he started punching him. After a few punches, Mrs. Quila got involved.
"Troy, you've won the spar, let Michael go." Her voice was firm and even had a slight coldness to it that sent shivers down Troy's spine, so he did what was asked of him and threw the white-haired boy off the ring toward the group.
He'd already punched him enough so that his nose was fully broken with blood pouring out of it along with tears pouring out of his eyes, so he'd fulfilled his goal.
A shadow flashed and caught Michael, this shadow showed urgency and worry but most of all it radiated a fury that seemed like it would make the heavens kneel. It was Damien.
Damien didn't know why he was so angry. He was the Devil King in his past life, he watched thousands upon thousands of people die for him and he barely felt anything but seeing his roommate getting beat up like this, and for himself no doubt, it felt like Troy was stepping on his pride somehow. And Damien hated it when people stepped on his pride.
He looked at his newly found friend's face. This was a friend who just stood up to him, a friend who stood calmly in front of a stronger opponent for him. In his past life, people constantly tried to kill him and everyone hated him on some level. So to see someone willing to get beaten for him, not out of fear, but out of friendship, Damien felt 'slightly' emotional. Damien couldn't understand why anyone would take a beating like that for him, deep down he was an evil bastard who didn't deserve anything from anyone.
And as if he could see Damien's confusion Michael spoke out in a choked and forced voice
"I can't...have people insulting me...and my friend...can I...?" he jokingly said this through arduous breathes but Damien could hear, hell, he could see the determination in what Michael just said. Then as if he knew that he could ruin a moment Troy spoke up.
"Aww, are you angry and sad that I hurt your little friend? Hahaha!" Troy's words were dripping with disdain as if he thought that having friends was a sign of being weak. To this, Damien lay Michael down carefully and stood up.
Damien was usually tall but now something about him just made him feel taller.
It was like an air about him that told everyone around him that he was something you didn't want to mess with, it made those around him feel inferior and most of all felt like inhuman was walking among them and said thing wasn't very happy, it wasn't very happy at all.
Damien's eyes locked onto Troy's and Troy flinched backward when he saw Damien's eyes.
"You realize hurting my friends is like stepping on my pride, right? Who gave you the fucking right to do that?" What came out of Damien's mouth wasn't his usual carefree and bright voice but an extremely cold voice and under that coldness was barely contained fury that was trying it's hardest to break out and destroy everything around Damien.
His voice issued such a pressure that Mrs. Quila was shocked and looked over at Damien as he was walking towards Troy, who was on the Arena. She knew what Troy did to Michael, and was quite angry about it herself, but she thought it'd be a lesson to Michael so he would wish to get stronger to defeat Troy, so she didn't do anything to stop it from happening and only stopped it from getting too far.
They have a Healer at the Academy so it could be sorted quickly. What she didn't expect. however, was that Damien would react so aggressively to it.
Without saying anymore Damien shot towards Troy from where he was and appeared in front of the boy. He stood there and said "Hit me." his voice was still cold and void of emotions but his anger was audibly getting more uncontained.
Hearing what Damien said, Troy was confused but before he could say anything Damien spoke again "Hit.Me." and Troy did, he hit him hard, not his hardest but a solid 60% of his power.
When it hit Damien's chin, Damien's head moved to the right but only barely and this terrified and shocked Troy and before he could back away, Damien spoke with even more fury in his voice.
"Hit me again." and so Troy, once again did. Many times actually. He hit Damien on the face, on the chest, he kicked his legs and neck and he even hit his arms until he was breathing raggedly but all Damien did in reaction to the punches was barely moving when he was hit. The attacks did hurt but Damien didn't care, he was going to humiliate Troy, no matter what it took.
Damien spoke once more.
"Oh, are you done? Alrighty then." as he spoke Damien gathered just under 2% of the energy from his ability and reinforce his entire body and planted his left hand on Troy's shoulder, gripping it tightly before planting his right fist into Troy's stomach with an audible boom that made all those watching wince in sympathy.
"Urghhhlll!"
Troy's face paled of all blood as he vomited up all the food in his stomach along with quite a bit of blood. As if Damien was unaware of his actions his eyes were still cold and were indifferent to the pain he'd just caused Troy - as if what he'd just done wasn't hurting Troy but actually just playing about with him, the same way some kids would pull an insects legs off.
Without waiting for Troy to recover, Damien grabbed Troy's arm and held it in a vice-like grip while speaking
"You really made a big mistake, Troy, I wouldn't mind if you beat him in a sparring contest and I'm not bothered you hit him, that's how spars are. But, Troy, you went overboard on one of my friends and stepped on my pride and for that. You've got to pay." once he'd finished saying this--
"Damien! Do not--!"
*CRACK!*
"ARGHHHH!"
--he broke Troy's arm with a simple twist shocking Mrs.Quila who tried to stop Damien. The rest of the class looked at Damien and the carnage he'd caused in fear.
Damien had just completely dismantled Troy in a fight with only two half-assed moves, but what shocked Mrs.Quila more was how emotionlessly he did. He didn't even blink his eyes when he completely destroyed Troy's arm but it was most shocking to her because he was 10.
Damien, a 10-year-old, had just emotionlessly broken someone's arm and Mrs. Quila could only see it three ways; he'd done it before, he's a psychopath or both.
Back to the arena, Damien left the crying and shivering Troy on the stage and went back over to where he lay down Michael who looked at him with surprise and shock but with no fear unlike the other students but most of all, he looked at Damien with gratitude.
Damien smiled at this, feeling thankful that his friend didn't look at him with fear for what he just did, Damien thought what he just did was actually quite light, he believed that Troy deserved to be crippled but because of the laws of this world he could only settle for breaking one of his arms.
At this point, all the fights had finished and Mrs. Quila called for a nurse to come to pick Troy and Michael up and take them to the infirmary, then she informed the students to come and make a circle round her.
This day, everyone realized to never mess with Damien's friends, and some people spread around that he's a heartless devil when it comes to his enemies and in all honesty, they weren't wrong, they weren't wrong at all.
After the circle was finished, Mrs. Quila called Damien over to speak with her before they left the Training Grounds.

From the Final World
I have lived a long, long time. Longer than the universe knows; longer than any star has seen or traveling light records. My memories; that is all that is left that knows that length, and that which was seen within it. Then again, that is all that ever did. When I am gone, it will be forgotten, a truth and a history lost forever no matter who or what tries to find it. I think that is why I write this now. A record, or a lament, of the most significant being of all time. It is a prideful exaltation of endless triumph, or the dread condemnation of infinite evil. I don’t know which; I shall leave it for others to judge. I could explain further, of course. I could list the sins that have been committed, the deeds that have been done. Yet for now, I believe this is enough. Her story will speak for itself. About the good, and evil, in the heart of a single girl burdened with more than her fair share. And how she reacted to it. So, I will tell her story. Of gods and devils, mortals and monsters, of legends long forgotten and civilizations long turned to dust. And in the end, I hope she knows herself, whether it is salvation, or destruction, she should receive.

Things powered by jade is just too different from what I know. --who is now ruining my life by trying to do something good. Something that's not only for my benefit. So will you please get out of my head? Would if I could. But if I have to take over your body to do good, why not? *sigh* And so begins the fight for my body. Which, unfortunately, I may be losing.

8 198Birth of an AntiHero
AntiHero's FIRST REWRITE IN THE WORKS - thanks!! :] EDIT 2/28/22 - sorry, health problems right now, but I will post after rewriting the first 80-90,000 words or so and start fresh from there! Expect the change to be uploaded before summer! So long as I can keep using my hands, that is~! ^_^ X] This story will indeed get fleshed out as my vision improves for the better. But I feel the need to emphasize that a lot of parts are written in improvised comic book format as my primary writing style, and this first book is actually the entry point and starting novel for an entire very vast series I am in the works of developing. Many side characters here will eventually be main characters with there own stories; long or short. But this one particularly will be focused and centralized around Noel. Because of this, I do plan to leave the introduction for side characters as still having a special flow for readers to witness a tad of their background, so keep that in mind after my 'obviously many' rewrites from now and going into the future! Sorry for the troubles! I will improve on my style and implementation of the story!(Although I DO plan to keep parts as 'play style' or rather, comic book style, since I find it easier for certain dialogue instances as well as the fact that the novel is inspired by that 'feeling' you get while reading comic books. But my style is still evolving, you were warned!) Thank you! - Noel Tyler Malierano. He's the youngest 'son' to receive approval from 'The Malierano Family': A Criminal Organization of hitmen and hitwomen that specialize in killing, even maintaining success within a vastly superpowered society. Noel finally manages to complete his training as the newest 'Elite' killer his family created...but, there's just one problem - He doesn't want to kill! Come along and delve into a society of conflicting morals through the eyes of a boy, desperately searching for a new path to follow. Can he even manage to free himself from his father's engrained teachings and ideals? Conversely, will killing prove a lot more difficult to ignore? --- --> Thank you very much for reading! It would be helpful for me if you all consider leaving me a comment or an inbox suggestion, a review or even a full rating wherever AND whenever you believe I need to improve on anything or if something I wrote irked you! I appreciate EVERYONE that comes to read my story, however I DO want to improve my work as a writer. I hope all of you who don't like my work will let me know somehow, so I can edit and IMPROVE my story as a whole! Thank you everyone for your time! --- JUST TO NOTE!! When a character has a cultural name like, say, a Japanese or Russian name, that is because that character IS Japanese or Russian! They don't have to be FULL of one ethnicity either - sometimes they will be mixed. This story mainly takes place on an artificial continent where all countries have sent over their respective talents, meaning characters of ALL cultures and ethnic backgrounds will show hints of that in their names. Please don't assume I'm just randomly naming characters names that don't match them. And feel free to talk to me about whatever in my story troubles you - no matter how small! I love to improve. ^-^ X] --- Just to note: Characters will slowly grow as time passes. Slow pace. THANKS for reading! Enjoy! :] --- Decided to post 2 chapters every Tuesday and Friday instead of taking a small break, but I MAY upload once in a while on different days, such as Sundays, in addition to those two. :]
