《The Toys of the Fool》Arc 2 Extra Chapter - To try and learn proper magic
Advertisement
One day, at a point in his life before the events of a certain forest where he met a fairy queen and failed to protect her, Eden was interested in what 'proper' magic in this world was. After all he only had his teacher in that field to ask him about.
[What? Is my teaching of magic that dull to you?]
In his mind, he could hear llyfr talk to him. As such with just his thoughts as well, he could talk back to him though as respect to his privacy, llyfr would only response when he talked back else when Eden had a really rude thought on his mind.
“No no no...” Eden waved quickly to someone who was not there, if another person saw him, then they would believe he was off in his head.
“I'm just wondering what 'normal' magic is like you know, like chanting and casting a spell without having to even think about the image of the spell in question.”
[Although it is not well know, chanting is actually a type of language magic which makes what you say to be casted. The words in a chant are important as they define and shape the magic in which you are casting]
“Oh.”
That sounded rather...dull for many reasons.
[This type of 'basic' and essentially diluted magic can never compare the magic you can use right now. However unlike the magic you use, this type of magic is quite safe and won't blow you up if you fail]
“....”
Sometimes, Eden questions whether llyfr was teaching him magic to make him stronger or see him blow up spectacularly once for all. However Eden knew that llyfr was the main reason why his magic more or less never failed before.
After all Eden was just a mere amateur in magic while llyfr was a master of it.
“Anyway I wonder if there is a magic guild that will show me some spells...” he wondered.
[Why can't you just ask that Viv about magic then? I believe he is highly proficient in the use of magic. Well much more than you at least]
“....”
Eden thought that was a low blow. How could he compare to someone who has skills in the advance level while most of his were in the later beginner or mid intermediate levels. Either way, Eden decided to find a magic guild somewhere.
xXx
A total of 4 hours, a number of events including a dozen men trying to pick him up and even more flex all of a sudden while he was near, he found the magic guild.

“Kind of...less shabby then I thought” he said looking at it.
There were many things to be said but in all, it was a large building made of mostly stone which was a rare thing since this was located near the outskirts of the city. However there were two powerful looking guards at the entrance and a dozen more patrolling around this building at the moment.
He wondered why they were there...
[It's probably some sort of event happening in there. Go in, I'm interested what could merit all of this for such a minor place]
“....”
Ignoring that llyfr called this place which could be larger than even a school to be minor, Eden headed inside the magic guild with the guards taking more than once glance at him...
Inside, the place was completely packed for some reason. He looked around and found someone who didn't seem like talking and asked, “What's happening here?”
The man, who was early twenties looked at Eden with a dreaming gaze before answering quickly and flustered, “Oh, the aptitude tests are happening again. Some magical academies are watching to see if there are any good ones to take in.”
“Aptitude Tests....?” Eden was not sure on this and asked again.
“You don't know?” The man looked confused on why Eden was here to begin with and then suddenly thought of several ways to talk to him (who he believes to be a she) more and could eventually develop into a relationship....
“Cough” Having a good feeling on what this man was thinking, Eden coughed to get back on track from his fantasises.
“The aptitude tests are a way to measure the level of a mage” he said simply.
“But don't skill levels do that already?” Eden asked. If that was the case, then what the hell was he wasting time training these skills for?!
[Training is essential to everything. I believe I told you that-]
However Eden did not hear the rest.
“This and that are different. Instead of proper level, this measures potential. You know that some people in this game are more suited to one thing than another right?”
“Yeah...”
A person who never ran much would be a poor thief or an idiot with no brains and all brawls would be hard press to be a mage.
“This is a measure of that. The first is a measure of elemental affinity. This determines what types of magic you are more suited to. The second is a measure of potential mana levels.”

“Wait mana levels can grow at different rates???” Eden suddenly grabbed the man's shoulder not letting go and pushed him to the wall. If one saw this elsewhere, it would look like a beautiful girl pushing down a man.
“Y-Yeah...though they are mostly the same except maybe due to race. Elves are generally better in magic than humans in both ways as well...” the man spoke blushing.
Hearing this, Eden got really interested in this. However he realised that he was not properly dressed and looked like a new player....though he really didn't care at this point. He simply went with the fact that he may be a new player right now.
Taking a few moments to pay a silver coin to undergo this test, he lined up behind the man he talked to before. The more and more people went, Eden saw that most of the time rarely did those orbs glow at all...and most of those people were players.
“Hey what's up with people failing?” he asked
“Oh, that is because players start off as blank slates. Without reading a bit or learning a bit of magic here, it is impractical to even do this test unless you have a race other than human” the man explained.
“Oh.”
Eden thought that was an interesting point.
[It's more like these orbs cannot sense that much and require you to have a certain level of magical power to do so. Else these people are scamming a lot of people with the costs and the fact that most of them can be mages either way. Listen here, if the orbs break than leave as this place is really cheap and not worth your time]
Eden didn't think much of it and continued to wait. On an interesting note, the guy that he talked to had a good affinity to fire and wind though his potential mana levels were average...still there were a few people who were interested in him.
“This is good” he said to Eden, “Even having above average potential is a good thing.”
Eden could only smile back at him as he was called up.
“Place your hand on the orb.”
“....”
Eden did so and then what could be called a shining force consumed the entire room. Five colours...7 colours...10 colours...12 who colours which represented different elements shone through the room endlessly.
B-Break!
However it stopped when the orb in his hands broke into pieces. Shocked and confused, there were many people jaw dropped right now but the person in front of him only looked frightful at Eden and could only say:
“Affinity to Fire element...exceptionally high, affinity to Earth element...exceptionally high...” the man continued to call out all of the elements that Eden scored high on.
“P-PLease...place your hand on the second orb...”
Eden smiled and was about to but a few centimetres away from touching the orb, it broke into pieces as well.
“Strange...why did it break before I touched it?” he wondered. Either way listening to what llyfr said before, he should leave now. It looked like his so called potential mana levels was too high to measure
[Well you are hosting me so that might be the reason]
“....”
At this point Eden really didn't think of anything but that he was bored now and should go back to Alexandra and Viv.
“Later~” he said in a slightly cheerful manner to the guy who was also jaw dropped, stunned in shock as he only looked at Eden strangely. But just as he was going to leave, some people tried to block his way.
“I am from Luna Academy and wish for you to-”
“Will personally pay for all tuition and-”
“A skilled mage will more than enough to train you to-”
He heard these comments over and over to the point that it annoyed him. There were generally two things that came out of their mouths. One was to join them and two was the benefits they will give him.
Both were worthless to him.
“First Seal Release...!”
He released the first seal onto his power and let out a turret of killing intent in all directions. In all, it could only be described as a shockwave of sudden power coming out of Eden who froze even the level 300 or higher people nearby.
If I were to get in this person's way I will die.
That was the message that was convoyed to them all as Eden walked away without a care. And while he was walking...
“I wonder if I should ask Viv about some simple magic I can perform...seeing that I can't use 'proper' magic at any rate...”

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image

My Failed Reincarnation as a Demon’s Prisoner
When Kayn opened his eyes in the empty void, he was met with a familiar voice and the knowledge that he was neither dead nor alive and about to be reincarnated. What he didn't expect was to reappear in the world of the living and immediately get captured by a clan of demons, now living as their prisoner. After a lucky encounter, Kayn stumbles upon a room that could possibly give him what he needs to free himself from their captivity. But, as he soon finds out, escaping from the demon queen herself isn't the easiest of tasks... **DISCLAIMER**This story attempts to be quite comedic (I don't know if I'm doing a great job at it) and will be more comedy heavy at the start than later on. As the situations Kayn finds himself in become more grave, the story will become serious and less comedy oriented. There will always be comedy throughout, but at some point I do plan on shifting the focus. I'd love to hear everyones opinion on whether the comedy should be kept in full, or dialed back a little so the plot can take centre stage more often. Happy reading!
