《The Toys of the Fool》Vol.6 Prologue - To Stall for a Year
Advertisement
Another 6-7 months passed since the beginning of the attack from the three powerful enemies that came with the 'Trial of the Emperor' as well as the tournament that a certain group won.
With Eden and Alexandra focusing on stalling as much time as possible they managed to keep them away from the capital city of the entire Kingdom to this point. Keeping them from there was impossible though.
On the other hand, Viv was also at the capital city dealing with something else. In order words a trap for those three exceedingly strong foes.
However it was not like the entire player base did not notice these three beings coming at the kingdom head on and...winning. There was a massive outcry when a sudden army of ghost knights and demons appeared slaughtering everything in the way.
Over a dozen times, players have organised for a force to take them out only to die in the end against an endless supply of enemies. Head on attacks failed, large scale magic failed and even assassinations against these three beings failed.
“Is it done yet?” Weed asked impatient. Everything in the plan was relying on this moment.
Viv snorted and then said, “I finished a month ago. It's only because two stubborn people had to stall them for a month longer than they should have that the damage piled up longer.”
Weed glared at Eden and Alexandra since they caused trouble again. While Weed was wearing his usual gear of the shabby kind, underneath he was wearing some expensive and powerful armour just in case....though it was strong for level 600 player and not those near level 900.
At this point dying was more of a pain than losing some equipment at that level for Weed, in fact the 'powerful' and 'rare' level 600 equipment he was wearing could be equal to the shabby armour he always worn in the past when he was much weaker.
Plus losing the war and battle right now right now would be even worse than losing every scrap of money he had on hand.
Eden looked into the distance using 'Divine Sight' and then saw three figures again. They had completely emptied out the capital city which was a very hard task to do. However at the same time it wasn't so empty.
There were still a hundred thousand elite knights, ten thousand elite archers, ten thousand elite mages and other units that in the end totalled to a hundred and fifty men and women to use in this upcoming battle.

Plus behind them were another hundred thousand normal players that wished to protect this place on their own.
“Weed you do know most of those guys will die quite tragically right?” Eden had to ask to make sure.
Weed shrugged and said, “Most of them are players so it's fine. The real elite NPCs were used to take care of the people who had to leave the city.”
“What of the new players then? Don't they still have that restriction place on them that prevents them from leaving the city?” Alexandra asked next though she really didn't care.
“Since a long time ago, new players were prevented from starting out in the capital. It was too unfair and crowded so that option was disabled” Weed replied again though he smiled evilly and added, “I was given a lot of compensation from Unicorn when they had to, for the sake of the balance of the game.”
“....”
The trio could only sigh at Weed. The so called compensation was nagged out of Unicorn by Weed when he had the chance. Forcing the most powerful company in the world to his whims...Weed was not originally at all even for them.
Though this was coming from seemingly immortal creatures that cannot be deleted or removed as they were part of the Goddess AI and the game in a sense and that Goddess AI cannot control them as well since they were originally players as well.
“They're around...an hour away from the city” Eden finally said as he noticed that ghost army that equalled to the hundred thousands and 72 large demons appeared to attack.
“Should we use long range attacks?” Viv asked. Weed nodded and said, “Lure them in and make sure they don't know what is happening until it's too late.”
Alexandra at that moment looked around and asked, “Where's Seoyoon? I would think she would try to protect you at any rate.”
Weed frowned and then said, “She is taking care of family.”
Alexandra grinned knowingly of what Weed was talking about but didn't say anything about it. There was only one reason why a woman would stop playing the game for at least a while.
“Alexandra, stop daydreaming and help with the attack. Your Holy Light will be useful against the demons at least” Eden said already gathering mana to turn into lightning for a giant 'Lightning Shower' spell.
Alexandra looked to her other side and found that Viv was preparing a large scale dark magic spell as well which she knew to be 'Hell Drop' one of the few ultimate spells Viv knew and used. Sighing that there was little chance for a close combat round with that Kyoshiro swordsman, she gathered holy light in her hand and prepared to use 'Divine Missile Strike' which was just a large blast of Holy Magic in an area.

“Since you three are fine here, I will be commanding the troops from afar” Weed suddenly said leaving the three in the mist of preparing for a large scale attack each.
“H-Hey!” Eden was quite startled when Weed ran away. Rather than leading the troops he was more likely waiting for the trio to do most of the hard work for him and finish it off in the end.
“Eden, focus. We can deal with what Weed wants later” Viv reminded him. Eden sighed and Alexandra let out a dry laugh as all three of them used their attacks at once.
“Lightning Shower!” “Hell Drop!” “Divine Missile Strike!”
Three things happened. First was Eden's 'Lightning Shower' which were thousands of lightning bolts falling onto the enemy. The second was Viv's 'Hell Drop' which was basically a giant rock...an asteroid falling down on them. And the third of Alexandra's 'Divine Missile Strike' which was a missile made from Holy light that came from Alexandra and struck at the enemy as well.
BANG BOOOOOM BANG BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM BANG BANG BANG BOOOOOOM!!!!!
A series of explosions happened as the landscape was completely shattered by their attacks. Even though they were only on the level 800 point, it was them at their level 800 point which was still quite very powerful.
xXx
An hour passed with the initial attack being responded with many attacks from the enemy side as well. As Weed said, he led the troops into the enemy and fought before retreating due to them being too powerful and otherwise being told that the trap was fully in place now.
Right now, most of the army that Weed led was dead or injured to some extent, as three certain beings walked into the halls of the Imperial Palace, a place that no enemy managed to get into since the unification of the Kingdom decades ago.
“Where is it?” the Fallen King by the name of Arthur asked noticing that Eden and the other two were hiding for an ambush.
King Solomon also looked around and then said, “From the energy it give, looks like that is it. The Holy Grail...or one of them.”
At the end of the hall was a golden cup that had barely any features. It was just a plain cup but at the same time it was one of the most important items in the game given to Weed to protect during the 'Trial of the Emperor' not that anyone knew other than him.
“This feeling...” Kyoshirou said, “Protective barriers? I will cut them down!”
With a slice of his sword, the many many and I mean many layers of protection barrier surrounding the entire Imperial Palace was cut apart like it was nothing. However at the same time, the Trio grinned.
“Thanks for doing that~” Eden said amused seeing the surprise of the three enemies.
All of a sudden their movements were completely restricted, unable to move and talk.
The trio dropped down in front of them and started saying a few things.
“The barriers you broke were only a part of a much large one that surrounded the entire region. It took me half a year to make it” Viv explained with a pride tone.
“Yeah and getting you here wasn't so easy” Alexandra pointed out, “We need to make even you think we were resisting with all our might. Well...we actually were so no tricking you there”
Finally Eden spoke up and said, “During our investigation of you three, a common name popped up. The 'Warrior King'. Whatever that is, it is what will appear after you lot right? Whether you succeed or fail, it will appear.”
Eden looked at the Holy Grail and then said, “Therefore since doing either is a bad idea, we will use the third option. Seal you away until we find out everything we want to know.”
He clicked his fingers and space distorted at the location to which the three beings stood. Eden didn't even look at them when he said, “Don't worry. With your powers, you will be out in at least a year.”
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang!
The sound of space snapping into place, sealing the three could be heard from the entire Kingdom as the battle ended.

Author's Notes:
- Prologue is up...chapter 1 is around halfway done. Was kinda waiting until my day ended to post this since I didn't want to post this and that extra chapter next to each other.
- If you didn't notice it already, there is a good long time skip to the beginning of this volume. More on that next chapter.

The chapters after the first one will be about 2-3k words long. I'll try to post at least once a week. Hope you enjoy! Campaign: A Project Starfarer Sidestory
This novel’s lore, story and characters are entirely fictitious. Certain long-standing countries, institutions, organizations, agencies, and public offices are mentioned, but their histories and the characters involved are wholly imaginary. "What will you do with your freedom?"Growing up in a meritocracy, infamous for being lawless, Jordan Astros had been repeatedly asked this question, since times unmemorable. In a society where one's accomplishments and skills were tallied and ranked in order to determine one's standard of living however, Jordan quickly grew to understand that 'freedom,' was a reward earned by accumulating Merit. And so, after his 17th birthday, Jordan departed his Clan's habitat in orbit of Europa to embark on his century-long journey to rise from E-Ranker to S-Rank. And spread his name throughout the Galilean Powers. *** Campaign is a sidestory within its NanoPunk parent series, Project Starfarer. (Yet to be published. Be on the lookout for it!) In which the first transhuman known to humanity, the Starfarer, invokes a plan to seed terrestrial life throughout the galaxy. Campaign takes place around the middle of that timeline and explores the life of a key figure in that universe, Jordan Astros. And explores one of four great nations thriving in the Solar System during that time. A Meritocracy that spans Jupiter and its 79 moons, The Galilean Powers. What you'll find in Campaign: Brutal melee combat in airless and pressurized low gravity environments. A technology based progression system influenced by merit and accomplishments; using tech that's theoretically possible to exist in the near-future. An exploratory perspective of the dozens of Galilean societies, or 'Powers,' from Jordans; and sometimes others', POV. What you wont find: Romance. Harems. An MC who receives shortcuts, handouts, learns things unnaturally fast or has OP plot armor. Jordan is not a special individual. Jordan is not OP and he likely never will be. He's no different than any other citizen in the Galilean Powers and will certainly face as many defeats as he does wins. He'll suffer losses and grow as an individual, while the Powers evolves around him as well. This is semi-hard sci-fi/NanoPunk and takes place in a fictional version of our future solar system. Centered around technology that's plausible in the near-centuries to come. Everything abides by the laws of physics/thermodynamics (As best that I understand them, at least. I'm no scientist.) No artificial gravity, inertial dampeners, teleportation, FTL, or hand-wavy materials will be found in the Project Starfarer universe. Just advanced automation, nanotechnology, cybernetics and AI. Set in the backdrop of space. *I do not own the photo used for the cover*
