《Ragnarök》Chapter 35 : The Beginning Of The End
Advertisement
Alas, the time was approaching. The past 23 months were filled with priceless adventuring, fighting, partying in RR with us still schooling in real life, managing to scrape past our tests by listening in class and copying homework. All that in preparation for the beginning of the end. Carnival has turned into a stronghold containing a whole army of troops ready to fight against the gods for what we believe in. Pure, unadulterated fun. This is the beginning of the end.

The core 5 of us has grown without a doubt over the past 23 months. All of us have cleared the criteria of minimum level 300 and went well above the required guideline. We have also updated our gear with appropriate godly gear. Each of us had an equipment that could grow alongside us in levels.
For me, I had my Death's cloak with me which had grown to be quite a versatile piece of equipment. It was so strong now that it actually lets loose a passive aura of the item which reduces fighting spirit so strongly even enemies just 50 levels lower than me tuck their tails in between their legs and run away faster than I could say penis.
Horse had a earring that Sigyn gave her which could function as a tracking device as well as an atomic bomb. The bomb was a one time use thing though. The earring could respawn by itself after 24 hours.
Soup had a special greatsword we had looted from Thrívaldi, a giant that we were sent to kill. We had to track him down in a mountain range and it was a fearsome battle. I remember dying in that battle becauseThrívaldi had too huge an army but after I died, they said they managed to complete the quest because I died at the last leg. The 2 meter sword of Thrívaldi gives Soup a lightning charged sword which can let loose its own thunderbolts which would be charged slowly over time or by absorbing electrical mana.
Beathoven was given a magical lute which the god Baldur used to play by Loki. Loki managed to take it off Baldr when he killed the god. The lute gives Beathoven additional concentration and art stats with a passive ability to play a song which all the gods will recognise as Baldr's song.
Breadtalk was given a ring by a passing Tinker whom he talked to and brought great joy to. He said it was one of a kind and impossible to find elsewhere. It belonged to the greatest Jester in the west. It gives a tremendous amount of luck and the more retarded things you do while wearing it, the faster the ring levels up. Needless to say it was the best equipment Breadtalk could ask for.
Ever since the BALLs came over to announce their presence and intention, Carnival has changed a bit. The citizens of Carnival became a bit more competitive and they wanted to contribute to the war as much as they could. Many of them joined different groups and clans which begun to form in the town. There were about 10000 people in Carnival including NPCs so about 6000 of them were players. There were about 100 clans so each clan was of a different size.
Many of them became famous clans because they were desperate to raise their levels and improve on their skills so they went exploring in different regions. Slowly, the raids became of a harder and harder difficulty. A few of the famous clans in Carnival were GuckingFeniuses, Fellowship Of The Bling and Representatives Of BOTs (ROBOTS). People didn't know what was going on though. We decided to keep this rank SSS class to ourselves because we didn't need any additional people trying their best to follow us to war.
Also, our BOTs have not just been training and training. We were preparing the city for an all out war as well. Soup took the army to train in even more perilous locations and dungeons (which explains his whopping level of over 500). They even managed to subdue a young dragon together which was extremely impressive. I was pretty sure there would be dragons to fight in this war anyway.

Beathoven was busy managing the people now that they had a different mindset. Everyone was still fun and hosted parties but they were less regular and more and more people were training hard so Beathoven had to manage this culture shift and make it more manageable for everyone.
I also had to manage the economy since we were going into battle mode. I had to negotiate with the NPCs to make stuffs like potions and armours cheaper so I paid from my own pocket and promised cheaper rent since we were already rich. We just needed to facilitate the conversion of mindset and make it easier for the population to train.
Horse was also busy in the thief guild helping Roxanne the guild elder to help her manage and tutor new students of the guild. The events for Carnival on a monthly basis became our only time to unwind and relax.
Our masters also took it to the next level once they saw the BALLs and how we lost to them. Once a month, they would pool in their mana and summon master class monsters to suddenly spawn in Carnival. Thus, it was totally normal if you suddenly see 100 people dying in the town square in 2 seconds because a level 500 Cereberus was spawned in town. We had to rush and take down the boss monster as a city. Of course not all 6000 people will always be in Carnival because most of them were outside training so once, we had to take down a level 700 Hydra with only 100 people. About half died. Lucky we were in town during then. I heard the worst summoning occured when our masters decided to drop a level 888 Unicorn who could kill people by just peeing rainbow coloured pee on us. We were out of town training during then and I heard 400 people died.
Also, Loki told us that they were saving mana so they would not be able to give us any more training sessions through Breadtalk. They needed to make sure they were also prepared for the war so the only time they spent mana was to pool some mana together to summon one monster in Carnival once in awhile. I understood the rationale behind it as well. The town needed to know how to fight together because in war, it was going to be that way. I was extremely impressed by Loki's training methods. As always.
The elites were also now all above level 300 and all kicking ass both in the literal as well as their own way. Slick could now shed his skin instantly to remove any negative debuffs and the skin remaining behind was so tough it could function as an instant barricade. M1 and M2 have learnt such high tier spells that even I needed to use my best spells to counter them or dodge them. Xantos has become so huge now she couldn't even fit into the castle. I couldn't use microscopy on her as well since microscopy has a limit. I could not cast it on miniboss class monsters and above. Xantos has became a miniboss after she evolved into the greater roc she has became. She was now about the size of a Nut in rainbow sack. (Yes I decided to all the houses a nut because I really cannot think of any other name more appropriate than this. Penis was just too straightforward and the word penis appears far too often in this story). Lastly, FuzzyWuzzy has become larger as well and more ferocious. His colour changed from light grey to dark grey so now he looks even more badass then when he first did.
Everyone has grown over the past 23 months. Carnival's infrastructure however did not change. Actually it did. Hermes installed a huge jet pack under each Nut in Rainbow Sacks because we might need to use it to go over to the designated location, Lyngvi in order to free Fenrir from Gleipnir. So our mode of transportation would be the whole Carnival packed into about 1000 Nuts flying in the sky... Hmm I wonder how that will turn out.
The people were the ones who changed incredibly. Everyone levelled up so fast in their clans that we had to give out recognition awards like Overall best clan, Most improved clan and Most Botlike Clan every month in order to keep up the motivation. The result? A city full of people who were at least level 300 and a few in the 400's which were the top clan leaders of their clan. Of course we the BOTs were still the most respected people around because of our elite group. Oh and before I forget, we have a new addition to the team.
Beathoven and Surtr got along so well that Surtr demanded his disciple, Macaroni, come to Carnival from all the way in the west in order to join us. Macaroni was a sweet girl who was everything but sweet when she fought. Her class, 'Pyromaniac' as it suggested, was akin to a frenzied person flinging out fire spells of such a high purity and quantity that I was frankly scared to fight her. However, I was afraid that she would be unable to face Maxmystical. They were complete opposites. Fire and Water. However, her ability was real and she was also retarded so the BOTs welcomed her immediately. She was the same level as Longbean who was now 400 so both of them constituted to the lowest levelled members of our team which was still way over the required level.
Once, Breadtalk stuck his head under Macaroni's skirt and trust me it I did not know which was funnier. A white hot flamethrower of fire conjured from between a woman's leg downwards or the sight of Breadtalk running around with his face on fire towards the nearest toilet. However her damage output was real. It didn't even rival mine. It outclassed mine. In terms of pure firepower, Surtr's disciple lived up to her name. However, of course I have discovered new spells of my own using my insanely high and versatile elemental affinities. I was still the best bet at any situation due to my versatality. All of us have worked around our role well and it all boiled down to how well we could live up to those roles in order to conquer Ragnarok.
-Present-
Currently, the seven of us, Me, Breadtalk, Soup, Beathoven, Horse, Longbean, Macaroni, along with the elites, M1 & M2, FuzzyWuzzy, Slick and Xantos was standing in front of the Fountain of Carnival. Behind us was the whole strength of Carnival, fully accounted for. 6000 people standing behind us in the town square looking at the fountain. Time was slowly ticking down and it was nearing midnight. Tomorrow was the date of Founder's day which meant one thing. Once the clock striked twelve, instead of Cinderella running home without her glass shoe, it would be the start of a war among the gods instead.
“Jinx you do know that in a short while your genius fountain which is your first masterpiece will break down into a pool of just pure element X mana and your great sculpture will be gone right?” Beathoven asked me.
“Yea, I do.”
“Any last words?”
“Man some bacon now would be nice.”
“Not you Soup.”
“Might Morphing Power Rangers”
Slapping war sounds between Longbean and Breadtalk broke out
I looked at the majestic fountain with a small smile on my face. A small hint of inspiration created the massive amount of grandeur I am looking at now. Up till date there were only a few sculptures of similar amounts of awesomeness and epicness that I could say I pioneered. And at long last, I felt with my mana intuition the last bit of ice mana begun to run out.
Without the glacier, erosion could not take place anymore. The endless cycle had reached a stop. Water levels begun to run too low because there was no more ice to melt into water. Low water levels meant that the dark mana built to absorb water to make the mana flammable was also becoming lesser and lesser. The fires burning on the surface of the fountain grew smaller and smaller. The electrical mana inside the dome had fewer clouds to merge into thus the clouds became highly concentrated. Gravity mana then ran out as well and the sun made out of light mana dropped into the remaining water. Too few clouds were formed to support the high density of electrical mana left and then the thunderbolts and lightning started.
They were of too high a purity and charge that the moment the first few lightning bolts were released, cracks begun to form in the glass dome surrounding the fountain. Slowly, the thunderstorm continued and a short while later, the glass dome shattered completely. The wind mana then begun to mix everything together and slowly, the residue mana along with the glass shards were all mixed together and they slowly rose up higher and higher into the sky.
The end result, was a portal of element X that was now about 300 meters up in the sky, surrounded by the glass shards which were now melted by the fire to form a gleaming new perimeter around the new pool of mana and once it begun to cool down, everyone was looking at a glass rimmed pool of element X with a radius of about 100 meters. Just then, something huge appeared behind us and I could sense it with my mana intuition that it was something dangerous.
I spun around on the spot along with the 6000 people in Carnival and saw a huge dragon the size of three buildings being summoned. It landed on top of the Ascension and roared at the sky, a blazing trail of fire emerging from it's mouth along with the roar.
“HAPPY FOUNDER'S DAY!!!!” Screamed Breadtalk as he summoned his weapon, this time a set of wings and a magically enchanted wing sword since he rolled 5. The animal paired with this was a bald eagle named Baldy. Everyone immediately sprung into battle mode and even though it was a level 1000 dragon, it was just summoned at the wrong time. I used half my mana to cast Fossilize, a skill I created on my own. It used fire, earth, darkness and light mana. I encased the dragon with damp earth and solidified it using fire and light and while all this is going on, a darkness curse was cast to weaken the dragon so it was imobilized and the effect of this spell is simple. The foe will be unable to move in the fossilized state due to earth and darkness mana will amplify whatever damage it takes in this form by 100% be it magical or physical damage.
Macaroni casted one of her signature spells, Surtr's fury. A huge whirlpool of fire the engulfed the dragon. Soup was already one of the first front liners beside the dragon in his huge, full lycan form swinging his magical sword he named “Toothpick” at the dragon. Beathoven casted some further debuff songs and Horse just zoomed over to the top of the dragon's head and begun stabbing the eyes and other critical parts with puncture. Longbean levitated the dragon and begun transporting it closer to the huge pool of 6000 players who have also initiated their attacks. Yes it was a dragon. Yes it was level 1000. But 6000 level 300+ players all casting their best spell at a fossilized dragon? In about 5 seconds since Breadtalk first shouted Happy Founder's Day, the dragon now lay dead at all our feet.
Everyone cheered and then Breadtalk flew to the portal of element X.
“Guys. Loki just told me this portal of element X can now function as a teleporter to the land of Lyngvi. Once we pass this teleporter, we will be on lands protected by Odin and his Aesir. Jinx any last words for them?”
“Yup. Everyone, get into your Nuts and fly it into this damn thing.”
1 minute later, there was us and 999 other Nuts flying through the skies of Carnival all heading to the portal which will lead us to the destined battlefield.
Breadtalk headed over to the boombox in our Nut and turned it on at full volume.
“Starships were meant to fly
Hands up, and touch the sky
Can't stop, 'cause we're so high
Let's do this one more time”
He didn't sing starships. You know what word he replaced it with.
I looked out the window along with the rest of the BOTs and elites. We had a rule in the house we liked to implement for fun. It was simple. “No laughing or else you will get a slap.” It was pretty fun since it would just be us trying to make each other laugh so we can slap the other motherfucker as hard as we can across their face. The moment we looked out of the window, no one could ever resist the urge to laugh. 1000 penises flying across a starry lit sky as a backdrop towards a huge reddish brown pool of element X mana functioning as a teleporter is just not something you can look at and not laugh.
We were the first Nut to fly into the teleporter and the scenery drastically changed immediately. Now, all of us with our faces full of red hand prints looked out the Nut and saw a whole sea of white. The whole place was a barren frozen wasteland. Then we saw it. Further down north in a valley between the two highest mountains, even from 10 kilometers away, was an unmistakable outline of a wolf. Our wolf. Fenrir.

I loved Biology - always have, and always will. Unfortunately for me, years of fruitless research whittled away what little joy I had left in what I did. Escapism came in the form of reading isekai works, where the stresses of real life seemed so far away.Luckily, I was summoned to a fantasy world of magic, dragons, and other mythical beasts. I didn't even need to deal with the Demon Lord threat, since it seemed that my summoning was a mistake, and all they needed was the Hero who was coincidentally summoned together with me! There was no revenge subplot, no hidden trap directed against me, and they even paid me compensation for their mistake. At long last, I could finally do what I ever wanted to do - experiment for the fun of it!With my new class as a [Biologist], none of this fantasy world's mysteries will be left untouched. Even if the Demon Lord himself comes knocking, nothing will stop me from researching every nook and cranny there is to discover of the magical biology of this world! ----I write extremely casually, and purely for leisure. Updates will likely be irregular, depending on when inspiration strikes and whether I can spare the time to work on this.
