Chapter 032 - Next Step
By Skalsar
'I'm back.'
'You were gone?'
'That's quite mean of you, my [Queen].'
'I'm not a [Queen] anymore, but a [Broodmother].
You have to keep up your informations.', I say.
[Hiveworker] had returned. Well, should call him [Drone] now.
Somewhere on his journey, he had evolved into a [Drone – Rare Variant], as he tells me in my mind.
'And we use names now. Call me Nydar.', I tell him.
[Drone] flies around me.
'I see.
My apologies, [Broodmother] Nydar.'
I also tell him about the stuff that happened here, while he was gone.
Thinking about it, I should name him too.
'Would that be alright, Danar?'
'Sure, he is quite the unusual one.'
'Alright, let's see..
I think I should give you a special name.
How about this: From now on you will be Nyr.', I tell him.
'Can we talk about that, great [Broodmother]?', he asks.
I slap him.
Names sure are complicated.
But he will get accustomed to the name, like we all did.
Maybe not liking it first is a sign for a good name.
'I gave you the name because you are something like my heir.
Therefore, I gave you part of my name.'
'I see, thank you very much, Brood.. I mean, Nydar.'
But enough of that now.
There are other things to do.
'So, how was it?', I finally ask.
'Three of them in the land of the [Local Lord].
One on the neighbouring land to the south.
Two west, three north, one east.
Last two in the vicinity of the [Capital].'
Twelve hives in total.
Other than us, that is.
So make that thirteen.
'But I thought about it.
As far as I noticed humans, they are always vigilant.
If they go hunting, they look for the smallest clues.'
'What do you mean?'
'If you want to start communicating with other hives, it might be better to start somewhere else.'
'Huh? Why? What do you mean by that?'
'It's because humans are tricky.
They tend to be startled easily and are very paranoid.
As you already took steps to interact with humans, you might want to lower the attention.
Like, going somewhere far away and start there.
Otherwise, someone might see that everything seems to be starting here.
In the end, we might get annihilated for that.'
Nyr seems quite well informed.
I still wonder why.
He was just a rabbit before.
Sure, he was captured for a while by humans and supposed to end up as dinner.
But between captivity, escaping and meeting me, how did he acquire that much knowledge?
'Did I not tell you?
I'm sorry [Broodmother] Nydar.
That's because of my unique skill.
If a monster lives long enough, even after facing death, it might recieve the blessing of the world.
As far as I'm concerned, that is [Wisdom Without Flaw].
It's a skill that let's me put together information I acquire in whatever means possible.'
'Unique skill? I never heard about that!
Explain more!', I say a bit louder.
I somehow feel cheated.
Not only Sora, but this one as well.
They leave me behind!
'I need pieces of information.
When I get them and focus on them, I can see how it interacts.
Like, learning about a dead animal in the forest and finding some footprints.
I might be able to see what left the footprints and might even be able to tell if it killed the animal.'
'If you have enough information about it, right?'
'Yes.'
'Why didn't you say so sooner?!
Go to Sora right away!
Help her with the [Watchers]!
This is terrible!
With that sort of skill.. you could become a better [Queen] than all of us.'
'Ah, I don't believe that, to tell the truth.
While I can comprehend the information, I'm pretty bad at using it.
I feel as if my body is not reacting to the flow of my thoughts.
That might be a restriction to the unique skill.'
Hm.
A skill that hinders the body to use it in certain ways?
That sounds weird.
I will have to think about it some more.
Still, if he helps Sora with that sort of skill, they might decipher human bodies much faster.
'Is that [Drone] for real?', Sora tells me in my mind, a bit startled.
Seems like she feels cheated too.
Guess you can't judge a creature by it's form.
Are skills this important?
How do you even acquire them?
No, one thing after the other.
I have to see other hives and how they are doing.
But Nyr is right, I should start somewhere else.
After opening a [Black Gate] to outside the forest, I start walking.
I saved some magic power in the [Hiveworkers] I took with me.
Just to be sure.

The Limits of Limitless
Author's Note: So, new author here, nice to meet you from this lovely one sided conversation lol. I was so tired of waiting for the perfect story for me so I decided to write a few of my own. These are basically just to make me happy, but if you enjoy them too that would make me happy as well lol. ______________________________________________________________________________________ So once upon a time, there was a convienent, and slightly cliche, plot device used by a somewhat lazy author.... Which in turn, created an easily made story of how a lucky high schooler posing as a hardcore gamer dies only to resurrect in a fantasy reality, meeting beautiful women, powerful dragons and ancient beings, an assortment of insanely escentric fellows, and a certain over powered ring. Journey with them as they explore the wilderness of twisted imagination. Or for you old timey folk who like their synopsis a bit tame, here you go: Jason, a senor in highschool, is slowly failing school due to not giving a fuck. Like many people now in the year 3056, he is obsessed with the wonderful invention most lovingly called, 'True Virtual Realities'. now by using his obsession with his favorite Virtual Reality game called 'Reality Controlled', which is the first and so called best Virtual Reality ever made. it was basically the all around escape humanity wished for, and he with heaven defying luck came across one of the three cheat items the game developers left for themselves: The Limitless Ring. The ring was a support type item and had the ability to grant wishes, store worlds, clone items, grant skills and easily learn abilities. But those are just a few of the things it could do. Using the ring he successfully became the "best player" and had a herd of fans following him everywhere. It was a dream come true. Until, he was killed from a power surge that fried his brain which was hooked up to the Nerve Capsule, an unsafe prototype of the Dive gear that he bought do to low funds. The end. Or so you would think.... ______________________________________________________________________________________ Author's Note: I was, to be honest, wanting to do a collab, because to me it is sooooooo incredibly boring to write by yourself since you always know what happens next, however no one enjoys a bit of friendly cooperation *sigh* so I'm forced to journey these roads alone.... 'Tis but a sad fate tha' 'is here young'un has t' bear. The cover isn't mine, all rights and stuff goes to its artist and such.

After the End: Serenity
We all want to believe we are heroes of our own story - unless we want to be the villain, of course. At the end of everything, the Final Reaper decided he hadn’t been a hero. Driven by a desire to right the wrongs he was subjected to, he killed everyone who wronged him or his people - which turned out to be everyone that wasn’t killed by someone else first. He'd won - but it was a hollow victory. Eventually, Order’s Voice found a way out. If the only existing being would agree to give up most of his power, the Voice could reset the multiverse to an earlier time with a few minor changes. Of course, the Voice couldn't ask it that way. It could only ask if the Final Reaper was willing to start over from when Earth was first brought into Order. It was an easy decision, and yet it wasn’t. Was he willing to go through eons of pain again to not be alone? Yes. In a heartbeat. Not that his heart beat anymore. Now it would. Perhaps he could even be a hero, this time. When he landed in his old body - more or less - on Earth, the Final Reaper once again became Thomas. He was both and neither. He needed a new name for a new life. Serenity. ------------------------------------------ While this is technically a System Apocalypse story, it's a System Apocalypse that is designed to have a large percentage of the population survive and prosper. There are a lot of problems that come with the appearance of the Voice, and it's entirely possible to lose. Earth has some special opportunities, but also special challenges. The first time around, Earth won the first round and lost the second. Serenity has ten years from when the Voice arrives to prevent that from happening. It will be a group effort; Serenity can't win alone - which is difficult for someone who's been alone for as long as he has. Of course, that's only his second priority. ------------------------------------------- Updates Daily A note on the nonhuman lead tag: He isn't human, and hasn't been human for a very, very long time (or maybe not long at all, depending on how you count it). He still thinks of himself as human, either way. The content warnings are mostly to give me room to write; this fiction is not intended to be edgy, but once in a while a character will swear or someone will get seriously injured. The cover image is a Chandra/Hubble composite image of VV 340 / Arp 302 / UGC 9618. While we're not going to space itself any time soon in the story, people from elsewhere are coming to Earth and Serenity will visit other planets. Plus, I like space imagery.
