《Chronicles of the Tiger Immortal》Book 2: Chapter 11- Sect Under Attack

(Author: Hello! Ten days until college. Bought books yesterday. Are the prices getting higher? Reality bites. The second game will soon commence. The results of the mage competition broke all expectations as Green Hare Tower ranked third. Casualties were beyond expectations among the seventh division, but Black Lotus Academy ranked first among the mages and had students among the top three ranks of the fourth and fifth stage divisions. How will the sixth stage Practitioners fare in the second of the Inter-Academic Games? This chapter will be a fun tragedy I came up with. Enjoy.)
-----------Chapter 11: Sect Under Attack-------------------
"Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the second day of the sixth and seventh stage division games!" an announcer in a bright gold tuxedo smiled. "Although a little earlier than expected, we will be hosting the elimination tournament of the seventh stage Practitioners later today, right after the second of the sixth stage division games! Indeed, the second of the games will be hosted here, live, in the stadium of Black City!"
The announcer let the crowd cheer before continuing, "Yes. Yes! It is indeed a wonderful occasion. One hundred Practitioners of the sixth stage have passed the first of the games. For the first time, in eight years, we even have a first year among them. Many scions of the ancient clans have competed in the games, but this is the first time a member of the illustrious Lu Imperial Clan of the Yan Dynasty will compete! We even have the honor of having Ancestor Lu Feng, the same Lu Feng of legend who slayed the tenth of the ancient clans which betrayed all of humanity and tried to takeover the world! Most people don't know this, but our imperial family can verify the truth of my words! However, it was an unfortunate action against Ancestor Lu Feng which caused him to personally wipe them out. Only Ancestor Lu Feng knows."
"To ask me that is to court death," Lu Feng said coldy, his spirit force causing the whole stadium to shake as some fainted while others choked and fell to their knees.
"Hahaha," the announcer laughed, weakly. "Well. I apologize for the disturbance. Now, for the event you are all waiting for, look upon the Practitioners. By the end of the second game, only around half will pass. That is, if they are lucky. This second game is a classic favorite we are bringing back after fifty years: The Fall of Sects!"
Veteran spectators who had watched for decades all gasped as they heard his words. They had all seen what happened the last time. Many of them began to wonder how Crown Prince Trent was allowed to revive the classic game. Most people didn't know about The Fall of Sects, turning their attention to the announcer to hear the details.
"For those who don't, here are the details about The Fall of Sects. Each of these Practitioners will enter an illusory formation. They will experience the fall of the very first sect of the Rokkam Kingdom, decades before it became a kingdom," the announcer smiled. "They will all be Practitioners of the sixth stage and unable to use any spirit techniques they already know. Their task is to escape death!"
"Death?" many cried.
"I don't want my son to die!" one roared.
"Is this even safe?" one asked.
"Now, now. Don't be alarmed. Ladies and gentlemen, these Practitioners have the opportunity to learn one of ten spirit techniques. If they successfully survive, the knowledge of how to use the technique will not be lost when they exit the illusory formation. This illusory formation is made by two of our five Spirit Sages. Learning a spirit technique from an illusory formation is quite possible, if the Practitioners who made the formation array relay the information to your head. Otherwise, what you are learning and experiencing is just an illusion. What we see them read, while watching their progress, is also an illusion," the announcer smiled. "The only external factor they will possess is their knowledge, their strength without spirit energy augmentation, and their Practitioner weapon. Their spirit energy will all be of equal amount. They will have no memory of entering a formation and will experience the true terror of a disciple of a sect under attack."

"Fuck," Shu cursed as he thought about the second game's details. His spirit energy would be restricted to the level of everyone else. He would still have his tyrannical strength and Arctic Emperor. However, he could not use any of his spirit techniques. If he survived, he would proceed to the third game and gain knowledge of the technique, out of ten, he chose."
"To the death or escape, we will meet again," the announcer bowed as he gestured the Practitioners to a large, purplr formation array that appeared at the center of the stadium. "You will relive the experience of the disciples of the fallen sect: Serene Lion Turtle Sect. Our most powerful Spirit Sage was once a Spirit Shaman of that sect. He has long received his revenge a thousand fold. You will each live under an alias. There will be ten people in the same illusion. Thus, you have a chance to meet them. Of course, you won't remember them. Your appearance will also be different and you cannot see your Mystic Stone or Mystic Crystal, if you have condensed your soul to that degree. The ten groups, of ten people each, will be decided at random. There is no way to prepare as you will only carry your intelligence and knowledge with you. If you don't understand your own elemental affinities, it's too late for a last minute reading. I wish you luck and hope you will all remember and honor the fallen sect."
"Something else also happens in such a powerful illusory formation," Lu Feng muttered, drawing the attention of Crown Prince Trent and Liao Hong. Crown Prince Trent was not alive fifty years ago and did not know all the details. Liao Hong had never been trapped in an illusory formation as there was no one foolish enough to attempt to do so. Ancestor Lu Feng was a living legend. All the other VIPs turned their heads as they also wanted to hear more details.
"What else is there, Ancestor Feng?" Crown Prince Trent asked.
"The Practitioner goes under a metamorphosis. His Practitioner weapon might also change due to the owner's memories and that of his alias. Take Lu Shu, how could he resist such a change within two Spirit Sages' formation? His katana will undergo a change. Maybe his temperament as well. He may forget about the spirit technique he learned, if he fails to escape, but the memories will remain. That is the danger of the illusory formation. It is both a blessing and a curse. The stronger you are, the worse it is as the young are able to adapt easily, but the old have habits that are too developed to change," Lu Feng explained. "I can only hope the experience of their fake lives contribute to their growth and not impair it."
"I knew they could kill, but this is something else entirely," Liao gasped. "It's no wonder this second game was ceased. It's effects are too mysterious and unpredictable."
"I did hear my father say that some Practitioners had their weapons change auras as well. Some gained celestial aura, baleful aura or they had their auras change. Those with baleful auras became weapons with celestial aura, but still capable of fear. Those with celestial aura became weapons with baleful aura, but still capable of emitting a healing effect. I did not know about the lingering effects on the mind. Let us hope that they pass the second of the games," Trent said, all the VIPs turning back at the Practitioners with fears and hopes in their heart for the Practitioners to persevere.

Shu and the other Practitioners stood in front of the illusory array. Shu knew he could only depend on himself when he entered the array. He would have none of his magical items, his sentient puppet, Spook, or his magical beasts. He would truly be alone. If his soul, his Mystic Crystal, cannot be detected; he could not ask the Dragon Fox for advice. He suspected he would have a fake Mystic Stone. Otherwise, how could he use the spirit technique he chose, or fight back against whatever attacked the fallen sect.
"Once you enter the illusory array, a medallion and your Practitioner weapon will be in the illusion with you. Your Practitioner weapon might change and the medallion will have the symbol of your academy. It will help you identify other competitors in the illusion. You won't know who they are, but you will feel that it is important to help each other," a gold knight said as the students moved closer to the formation.
"Good luck to you all," Shu said to his classmates and walked into the illusory array.
"Shu, you brat. You don't even know that formation can't restrict your Mystic Crystal. It was meant to lock Mystic Stones. Not only that, do those Spirit Sages think they can block the connection of the Great Spirit I sense in your realm of consciousness? I was the one who fused the two rings into Spook," Lu Feng laughed in his thoughts. "You're certainly full of surprises. I wonder what everyone's faces will be like when you regain your identity? HAHAHAHA! The next generations sure are lively."
---------Reliving the fall of a sect begins-----------------------
"The clouds seem peaceful today," a youth smiled, the hair on the back of his head tied in a ponytail. Short brown hair fell toward the front of his face, but bright blue eyes continued to gaze at the morning sky. His name was Yao. Due to entering the inner sect of the Great Lion Turtle Sect, he was given the family name of Wu. This was to discard his mortal family and continue the path to immortality.
Among the inner sect disciples, he was the youngest to enter at the age of thirteen, three years ahead of most people his age. This was all due to the tyrannical strength his body possessed. He had the choice of learning one of ten spirit techniques of the core sect disciple manuals. What he learned was a dangerous ice and dark acid technique called Ghost Serpent Strike. It was a dual element technique. It was the variation of the Great Serpent Strike as he had evolved the technique. No one knew why, but he had a powerful soul and natural affinity to his element. It took a whole year and he felt he could develop it further. Four years since he became an inner sect disciple, he was now at the sixth stage.
"Senior Yao! Senior Yao!" a familiar voice cried as Wu leaned up from a branch of a peach blossom tree and saw a young boy wearing the brown robes of an outer sect disciple. Wu Yao wore the white and red robe of a inner disciple. He scratched his head and landed, softly, on the ground below. The outer sect disciple was a boy named Han Kong. All disciples had the last name of Kong, as in empty, until they became inner sect disciples. Then, the headmaster of the sect would bestow on them a clan name and they were allowed to venture to the outside world or indulge in romances. They did not allow outer sect disciples to love or venture outside so as to avoid them from having any distractions.
All disciples were taken in at the age of ten, usually orphans or youths who were given to the sect in hopes that their family gains a Practitioner. You had no freedom until you became a core sect disciple. The new Kingdom of Jakkom was too dangerous. Many nations tried to stop the conquest of the kingdom and many martial artists wanted to establish themselves in the growing nation.
"I finally found you, Senior Yao," Han bowed as he cupped his hands. "Outer sect disciple Han Kong has finally entered the inner sect of The Great Lion Turtle Sect of the Rokkam Kingdom. A little over a dozen have passed the inner sect disciple exam."
"Ha. Congratulations, Han. When is the congratulatory feast scheduled?" Yao asked.
"Tomorrow night. I can't wait. I can finally confess to the girl I like. She passed too!" Han grinned. "I can finally cultivate and train at my leisure. That is, after the one year mandatory service of teaching the basics to the outer sect disciple recruits," Han sighed. "They are just little kids crying and moaning."
"We're both seventeen. Of course they are crying. We were like them too, seven years ago. As I recall, I was an orphan and you were left here by your rich parents," Yao laughed. "I was crying out of happiness for a place to sleep and decent meals while you were crying for your own reasons."
"Still sucks. Still, I can learn that spirit technique while teaching those kids. I might even be able to evolve the technique and make it my own," Han smiled and then paused. "Actually, I might not be able to. I'm not a genius like you."
"There are tons of geniuses," Yao shrugged. I know a girl whose a year younger but even evolved the techniques of the outer and the sole inner sect technique she learned. The elders all say how talented she is. She has already reached the eighth stage of Spirit Shaman cultivation. She might even be promoted to become a core sect disciple before the age of twenty, when she becomes a Spirit Knight. Now that's a genius. Still, it does not explain why you were in such a rush to get here."
"Members of the Black Mantis Sect are here. You know, that rogue sect that's been conquering sects from outside the kingdom. They heard about how sect is number one in the Jokkam Kingdom and came to challenge us. They claim that their sect is the number one martial arts sect in the world. That their Practitioners bow to, and suffer, no one," Han said grimly.
"Right. Let's go," Yao said as he picked up his sword that lay against the trunk of the tree.
They headed down a hill and passed a few inner sect disciples who were charged with barring the outer sect disciples from heading further into the sect. Han looked around as Yao led him inside. Han had already passed into the inner sect. Thus, he was allowed in for the first time. Yao led Han straight to the main hall. Han stayed close to Yao as they stared at the black robed visitors. Each of them had foreign weapons that were unknown to them. One of their swords looked strangely similar to Yao's own.
Yao's Practitioner weapon was a double-edged sword with a silver cross guard. Along the sides of the blade was a large, triangle from the guard to a third of the blade. On the sides of the blade, within the triangle, was a tiger wearing armor on its limbs and face. However, the tail of the tiger was that of a snake with dragon's teeth and scales. The armored tiger and snake glowed vermillionThe blade was made of a white metal with thousands of white and light blue mystical energy within . When he wished it, celestial aura spread from the sword. It looked similar to traditional swords of the Chinese, but for that weird cross guard about two inches long. His sword was unusually sharp and only magical weapons, armor, and Practitioner weapons could block his strikes without damage. Yao had named his sword Freezing Tail as the sword was cold to the touch. and he liked dragons.
"Hey, Yao, their swords look strange, like yours. One wields dual hook swords with crescent moon guards over the grip, as if to protect the fingers. Another had a weird two-handed sword and giant cross guard while one more wields a farmer's scythe. What kind of Practitioner uses those?" Han whispered.
"They must have traveled all over the world and recruited while they did," Yao answered. "It seems they really do wish to challenge the core of our sect, but they have to defeat our masters within the inner sect first."
Placements in the sect depended on the cultivation stage of the Practitioner. Members of the outer sect ranged from the first stage to the fourth stage. Members of the inner sect ranged from the fifth to the ninth stage of Spirit Shaman cultivation with Spirit Knights eligible for promotion to the core of the sect. Naturally, masters of the inner sect were all at the ninth stage and the final threshold to the Spirit Knight tier All the elders of the sect were late stage Spirit Knights, even the headmaster. The lone Spirit Master was a magical beast lion turtle. As it was at the Spirit Master stage, it was capable of human speech.
Most thought it was unorthodox to learn from a magical beast, but power spoke for itself. It was also very wise and taught much to the headmaster who founded the sect so that others could learn from its wisdom. The greatest minds are not those with narrow-mindedness. Their trail of thought has no bounds and accepted the world outside of their imagination. Yao's Freezing Tail had celestial aura and was capable of healing, but could also emit fear and paralyze his opponent. It was similar to a demon attaining a holy power. It was strange, just like the existence of his sect.
"So few people," Han observed as he gazed around, trying to find more inner sect disciples.
"It is hard to advance in cultivation without foreign factors, insight, hard work, dedication, and innate talent. There are even fewer core sect disciples. Still, I thought Black Mantis Sect would bring more people," Yao said.
"They brought a small army of disciples. They followed our rules and those within the regulated cultivation stages were distributed. These two hundred or so are the ones who stayed behind while those at Spirit Knight tier moved ahead," Han answered.
"That's a lot of outsiders," Yao frowned as all the inner sect disciples came out of their training and surrounded the sides of the large square outside the main hall of the inner sect. The masters sat on chairs in front of the building while the outsiders stood at the opposite side of the square, observing their surroundings. Many inner sect disciples were outraged that a sect from another country would challenge them.
"Are we going to fight?" Han asked.
"You just entered the sect and barely at the beginning phase of the fifth stage of Spirit Shaman cultivation," Yao shook his head. "If a fight breaks out, we head to the escape route."
"So we position ourselves in front of that direction as we watch the fight?" Han asked while Yao nodded in agreement.
"These people have strange weapons. Their numbers are also too many for a friendly match. No doubt, they believe in duels to the death only. Sooner or later, they will make their move. Why else would they bring so many people?" Yao growled quietly.
"Not good. I need to find Ling," Han gasped and began searching for his crush while Yao observed the square, waiting for each side's preparation to be complete. Right before the two sides were about to begin, Han and a girl quickly ran through the crowd to him. They were both a little sweaty as it seemed they were afraid Yao's prediction might be true.
"I assume this girl is Ling?" Yao grinned, seeing a girl with long black hair and hazel eyes holding hands with Han. "You already confessed?"
"Yeah," Han grinned while Ling blushed.
"Hello, Senior Yao. I heard a lot about you from Han," Ling bowed.
"So, where's the exit?" Han asked.
"See the building next to the peach blossom tree next to the bench behind me?" Yao asked as they looked back. "There is a basement, but everyone knows about the secret tunnel there. We can't go there in case the enemy interrogates and follows them. We will head to the third floor. That's where I go to cultivate. I already have a teleportation array set up. You can only use it if you have the corresponding jade talisman. I paid a guy a lot of demonic cores to set it up. He died about a year ago. No one but us will know. I have five talismans. I'll give you each one."
"Thanks Yao," the two nodded and quickly put it in their storage bags.
"If you want to leave, do so right when the two sides begin their matches. Once the slaughter starts, you might be separated during the chaos as people will run in all directions. Like the basement where the tunnel is," Yao warned.
"I'm going now. What about you?" Han asked as he and Ling looked at him.
"People know my face and will expect me to be here. You guys are not significant of note. I'll escape. Don't worry. I have my methods," Yao smiled. "See you on the outside. Be sure to change clothes and burn all clothing of the sect. Some villagers might talk if they are paid the right price. We don't know if they have men in the nearby towns and villages."
"I seriously owe you! I'm heading out first," Han said, shaking Yao's hand before stealthily walking toward the building.
"Thank you," Ling said, giving Yao a quick hug before following Han.
Yao watched as the two sides began to stir. The Black Mantis Sect made the first move. Sending someone at the fifth stage forward. He was about sixteen years old with an extremely muscular build. What really made him stand out was that his Practitioner weapons were two gauntlets. It was a segregated type of Practitioner weapon: a weapon with two separate forms. It was rare to see a Practitioner weapon to be dual-swords, but this was two gauntlets. Naturally, both the fist and palm techniques of the Practitioner would be powerful.
"HAHAHA! We will send our weakest up first. A disciples learning the Black Mantis Fist technique of our sect. Come and test his might!" the leader laughed.
"Send him forward," the thirty two-year old master said. He was a Spirit Knight of the third stage and responsible for overseeing and regulating the inner sect. His word was law and the inner sect masters of the ninth stage of Spirit Shaman cultivation dare not refuse.
"Why him?" Yao thought as a twenty year old at the peak of the fifth stage stepped forward. This young man was Ryan Mein, an orphan who had the same lineage as the nobles who migrated and formed the majority in the Jakkom Kingdom. The boy had a Practitioner weapon the form of a double-bladed spear, spear heads on both ends of the shaft. Sure, the spear served well in medium-range, but Ryan is sure to lose once the outsider stepped within range.
"My name is Ryan Mein, fifth stage Spirit Shaman of The Great Lion Turtle Sect," Ryan bowed.
"If you defeat me, you'll learn my name," the outsider mocked.
"Insolence," the overseer cursed. "Let the match begin!"
To Yao's surprise, the outsider did not make the first move. Everyone was also surprised. It was quite obvious the outsider had to get in range as fast as he could before Ryan took advantage of his superior range. Ryan spat at the ground and leapt forward, using his momentum to empower his thrust at the outsider's throat. The outsider narrowed his eyes and also rushed forward, crippling the power of Ryan's thrust as he could not fully extend his arm.
Ryan spun his spear, the bottom spear head slashing upward. It seemed as if the outsider would run into the spear head, but he actually grabbed the spear head by tilting his body forward and grabbing the bottom of the spear head while doing a dive. Grabbing the spear head tightly, the outsider slammed his feet down at Ryan's head, using gravity and momentum to augment the strike. Ryan shouted in pain, letting go of his spear to hold his head.
"Fool," Yao thought, his eyes narrowing as the outsider spun the spear and killed Ryan with his own weapon.
"Like I said: you're not worthy to hear my name unless you beat me," the outsider laughed.
"What is the meaning of this? This is just a friendly match!" the overseer roared.
"I think you're misunderstanding something. This is a duel. People win and the losers die," the leader of the outsiders laughed.
"This trash!" an inner sect disciple roared.
"Get out!" another yelled.
Many disciples cursed until the overseer said, "Bring out your next disciple."
"We tested our fists. Now we test our swords," the leader laughed and a young man with two scimitars stepped forward.
"There's no need for me to wield my Practitioner weapon. These mortal trinkets will suffice. Bring someone of the sixth stage. I don't want you to blame my cultivation if you bring anyone weaker," the new representative laughed as the other one smirked and laughed as he rejoined the members of Black Mantis Sect.
"Let Yao Wu handle this scum," the overseer spat, all eyes turning to Yao.

The Second Coming of Fate [A High Fantasy Story]
Prologue Arc: The Day That Begins Your Fate - COMPLETED Story Arc 1: Chaos in the Lamorian Kingdom - ONGOING Please consider following/leaving a rating. I plan to turn this into a long lasting series, and it would really mean a whole lot to me. :) ----- Having succumb to amnesia, Galvin one day appears in the Grand Forest east of the capital kingdom Lamora. For the next two months, he lives a perfectly carefree yet boring life until one fateful day changed everything. Encountering all sorts of characters and dealing with all sorts of shenanigans, Galvin begins to experience visions of what appears to be the future. With this newfound power in a world full of magic, yet plagued with war, discrimination, and brutality, will Galvin be able to change fate…or die trying? ----- Do you like stories where the protagonist doesn't start out strong and is deeply character driven (with a LOT of inner monologues)? A story that has its fair share of comedic and dark moments? Well then you've come to the right place! However, if you're looking for LitRPG mechanics, then unfortunately, this story doesn't contain too many of them. The dynamics of the story will be based on real life physics and mechanics (with a bit of magic of course!) Also, I delve deeply into a lot of disturbing topics, so readers do be warned. However, if any of this sounds interesting to you, then please come by and give my story a read. ----- Expect releases as soon as possible (which is like 4 - 10 days). Just know that I'm writing this story as it progresses, so a lot of first drafts are to be expected. :D

Nightmare Infinity
God's Dimension was created for the purpose of evolution. It would push its chosen through countless trials, horrors and nightmares to fulfill this goal. Only through the constant threat of death will humanity be forced to evolved. The chosen are those who have given up on life. Those who have nothing to live for, and those who life has nothing to offer. With the hope of finding that meaning, they enter God's Dimension. In the beginning God used the stories of mankind to create these trials. Sending the chosen into the worlds of monsters and demons, and granting them the powers of the inhabitants of those worlds. But with man's evolution God changed these trials, sending the chosen into new and more dangerous worlds, which in turn granted them access to the powers of those worlds. The first change came when God sent the chosen into the worlds of horror and action movies: Alien, Predator, The Grudge, Nightmare on Elm Street, Starship Troopers, and many more. The second change came when God included the worlds of Anime, Manga, and Light Novels into its trials: Fate/Zero, Btoom, Highschool of the Dead, Akame ga Kill, Naruto, One Piece, Attack on Titan, Terra Formars and many more. Now God has changed the trials once again and included the worlds of Video Games into its trials. In recent years the number of video games that come out each year has skyrocketed. More worlds, greater challenges, and increased danger await the chosen of God's Dimension. No one, even the veterans of God's Dimension, knows how this will affect them. The number of powers and worlds God's Dimension allows access to has once again increased, but will they survive long enough to make use of them? *Warning* This story is a Terror Infinity fanfic and will heavily cross over with different video games, anime, and manga. I will try to use ones which have already well known stories so as to not spoil anyone. Though I might change it up here and there to keep the plot interesting. Another warning is that this story will, or at least try, to show the despair and horrors each character went through. There will be a some gore, mature content, and some pretty disturbing stuff, but nothing too much. A story is meant to entertain and a grimdark gorefest is not that pleasant to read.
