《Path of the Conqueror》Chapter-12 Poison

Everyone's focus was on Zain. He was still laying on the couch, not even paying attention to them. He wanted to sleep as he didn't sleep for a few nights in a row.
"What the hell are you saying? This wine contains poison. Explain?"
Zeidan yelled at top of his lungs.
"Okay, don't hurt my eardrums. Well, why do you think the wine has a unique flavour and it tastes as if it had been aged for 100 or so years? Right, it's because of the Paroma Scorpion Venom."
Paroma Scorpion was a deadly creature. It lived deep underground and was only found in the desert. They were quite rare. And they were famous for their Venom as it was perfect for assassination. It was tasteless and colourless and after reaching inside the body, it could end a common person's life in seconds without leaving any residual in the body.
It is very hard to detect and treat. But procuring one was not an easy task. Firstly, the Paroma Scorpion were very hard to find and the venom sacks have to be extracted with utmost care. If they got damaged, the venom couldn't be preserved longer than an hour. That's why it fetches a high price for it.
"Why the hell are you using it for making wine? Are you out of your mind?"
"Relax, it..."
"Relax, how can I relax when you are poisoning me and everyone who will be drinking this wine."
Zain was irritated by Zeidan's habit of not listening to anyone. After going on and on for ten minutes he finally stopped yelling.
"Finally, done. Now listen to me. You think that I don't know that this is dangerous. I have done many experiments on it by using various animals. And it completely vanished after fifteen days after being dissolved in any solution."

"But it helps in fermentation and ageing of wine. It gives the wine a unique flavour and it tastes as if it has been aged for many years. It is mixed with the wine before fermentation and kept for fifteen days. In these days, venom helps in fermentation and ageing and gets completely dissolved resulting in venom completely nullifying. So, it's not poisonous."
"But drinking it when the process has not been completed yet could be deadly. Of course, for a legendary warrior like you, it poses no threat. So, you can have it. But it won't taste good."
Zeidan didn't know how to respond to it. Whether to be angry or what. When Zain saw that his father was really angry, he finally straightened up and looked much more attentive.
"WHY YOU WOULD USE PO....."
Zeidan stopped himself from saying that out loud. As walls have ears, he didn't want this news to get out.
"Give me one reason why you would use poison for making wine? Heck, where did you even get this poison?"
A sly smile appeared on Zain's face.
"Don't you remember when you tasked Morris with... ahem killing all those old men in the family who were planning a resistance towards you? So, the servant who was incharge of poison for the assassination gave me a living Paroma Scorpion when I asked him 'nicely'."
"It was a female which was soon going to lay eggs. So, I made an atmosphere, so that the Paroma Scorpion could live and breed. Right now, I have more than 100 Scorpions in my manor's basement. I can only maintain that much."
"And about reasons that why use poison? It's simple, who in his sane mind would think of making wine by using poison? Even I discovered this technique accidentally because of that book by Goya Stonehill. So, we don't have to be afraid about our secret being copied and only people in this room and Chris know about it."

This surprised Zeidan a lot. The mission was carried out secretly. Other than him, Morris and his servants who did the deed, no one knew about even his eleven followers didn't know about it. And him raising Paroma Scorpions was an amazing feat. Their Venom was always in high demand. His reasoning was also sound.
"Why do you appear so shocked? It was easy to see the truth behind so-called 'tragedies'. Only ones who died were against you, if I were at your place, I would have let some of our supporters act sick for some time. It would make it look more believable. And you would never want to experience how difficult it is to raise Paroma Scorpion."
"Agh... what? Just forget about it. Let's talk about what we are planning for the future. When are we going to begin our sales? Now that we have six hundred bottles of wine, should we start the sale?" Zeidan was fed up.
Zain thought for a second and said.
"No, I want to make it a big event. Can father throw a party where even the Emperor would be present? There we can launch our wine."
"If I call in some favours I can make sure that Emperor attends. And it would also cost a lot to hold a befitting event. But it can be done. What I want to know is that what will be the reason for this event?"
When Zeidan asked this, both Morris and Raina who were standing all quiet during the whole conversation suddenly said something in unison.
"I have a proposal, my lord." Both spoke at the same time.
"Morris, you go first."
"Master, I think me and Raina have the same thought. I was thinking, that my young master would be turning Ten in four months. I think it would be the best occasion for celebration."
Raina also agreed to it. However, Zain was not much pleased by this proposal.
"Although, I don't like the idea of me being shown around to unknown people like I am some kind of rare animal. But I can't think of a better occasion, and it would be four months later giving us much time to prepare. Also, father, you will be receiving quite a gift from me, they should arrive after the harvesting is done next month."
Zeidan was a little surprised by this statement but he refrain from asking more. And asked something else.
"Now, what about your training?"
"MY WHAT!!!"

Contact Through Voided Lenses
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Edit: Fixed some inaccuracies in the synopsis. The void is a vast unexplored ocean filled with various wonders and dangers all waiting to be explored by those brave enough to travel and record. Many souls do find themselves brave enough to face the vast distances, the various risks to personal safety and do the hundreds of task required on a craft. However, at times the void itself can be boring with absolutely nothing to do but as time pass and more and better technology is reached, things got better. The various trips got faster, communications became faster than light and you can be home to see your loved ones after only months now. Through the various planets whether rocky or gaseous, the various stars whether small or giant, the various systems both eerily similar or completely alien. As part of an expeditionary scientific exploratory survey craft, one could see that the void offers no reprieve from all the discoveries and wonders. At times, it can feel empty and silent where no soul can hear you scream and at others it can be overwhelming with sudden phenomenon that can overwhelm the brightest of minds. The void itself is a truly fascinating ocean where one must chart the various islands or drown in its deadly tidal waves. But the question still remained no matter how you try to hide it in of itself… is there truly other intelligent life out there? Are we alone in this ocean? Those very questions still haunt the minds of those on the crafts themselves as they brace for every jump ready for the unknown and the known. Many would try to explain that yes there is other intelligent life out there whilst other still say no after 2 centuries of continuous flight out of the home system. Still, those are questions that bury deep in the minds of the crew and those at home as the voidcraft jumps to a system with a single yellow star orbited by 8 other planets with one crowning blue jewel being the 3rd closest with its 5 oceans and 7 continents, a planet called Dirt which is inhabited by a primitive species called Humanity. Hello, author here and this is my newest dive into writing particularly for the Writathon currently in progress being my first one. I hope you give me story a try but in case you still want more information on what you’re getting into, below are some pointers about the story itself. First Contact: CTVL is a story about a first contact scenario between an advanced alien civilization and a slightly more advanced modern day humanity on their planet called Dirt. Characters: The story will take place mainly on the perspective of the alien visitors themselves though there will be human POV characters who will show how the rest of humanity react through media and forums. Action: It won’t be an actual alien invasion but you have to see for yourself how well first contact went. Sci-Fi: I will be very forward here, I WILL bend the rules of physics in order to add in parts of the plot and there WILL be parts that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Theme: It will be a brooding story talking about the futility of pe… Just kidding, it’s mostly wholesome stuff to be honest here. Alien: The aliens themselves will… actually why should I tell you, you have to go and read it to find out what the aliens are though I will draw a few things here and there to aid in the process. Extra tidbit: If you are a grammar nazi or someone who really wants a realistic scifi story... this story is probably not for you at all. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I can say before I spoil something major of the plot itself, the story is slice of life so make sure that type of story is what you like because I am terrible with anything else as I found out, anyways, have a good time everyone and good luck to the other Writathon participants.

Conquest Of Mortem
*NOTE* This novel is a war of attrition. To say anything less is a disservice to its demand. While comparable to other such works as Ulysses or Moby Dick, each sentence in Conquest is an enemy to be tackled. Not in the ways of difficulty but in absurd density that wishes nothing more than to destroy what patience you may have. Do not tackle chapters as you would ordinary chapters in an ordinary book. Tackle each chapter as a book unto itself. A foe to be vanquished, a period of life to leave behind. Seek to be master of this work. Seek to overcome. For in its design is the willpower, and the perseverance, and the strength of someone who sought meaning in struggle. As I discovered these in times of ultimate desperation, so I hope for you to discover these things. This novel is a love letter to your trials. May you overcome them. May you master them. May you become conquerer.- SeedSagaA literary epic for logophiles, philosophers, and poets alike. A journey into zeitgeist, the impact of media on culture, and the endurance of morality against an onslaught of hatred. These vague descriptions do little to compact Conquest's density into a bite-size summary. They do however relate the basest themes found within. A plot, if such can be surmised, is strung thinly across multiple perspectives, weaving together these concepts into a seemingly distorted tapestry of indecipherable events. Inspired by early 20th century modernism, Conquest will challenge the reader, and provide critique on the medium upon which all great stories are derived. Further interpretation is up to you now; an explorer among a sea of words. Venture on and discover what lies ahead, in...CONQUEST OF MORTEM
