《Testament of Ezra》40. Nothing Getting in My Way

Virion stood as his men came charging from behind him. They all were eager for battle, until seeing their first enemy. Even though not every last one knew him and his reputation. The tall structure, large scythe, and pigtails in his long hair was enough to make them question the challenger. Their captain stood directly in the same spot. Then gave his order.
“Forget about him, men. He’s mine. You know what you need to do. Destroy those crystals and infiltrate the village. We aren’t leaving until we have what we came for. NOW GO!” The 3rd captain ordered. His men followed his order and ran forth, despite Grimm standing menacingly before them. As they each ran past him, he stood motionless and even noticed a few small glances at him. Virion was soon all that remained.
“Seem they respect you enough.” Grimm complimented his old friend.
“They have to. I’m their captain. If I wasn’t...well. Let’s just say they would have some things to say. Just like I do to you.” Virion responded calmly.
“Like what?”
“I don’t know if i’ll leave here alive. I know more than anyone that no one wants me, the outcast loser as their captain. So they sent me to the most dangerous battle to date. And you just so happen to be here. Guess my luck has run its course. So if I am to die here. Then I need to get some things off my chest. Because when I die, I intend to go to the Golden Hall. If I live. I’ll take everyone’s hint. Then, me and her can live alone together. Until our last days. We stopped caring about reputation and honor a long time ago. All we have is each other. And I think that’s all I need.” Virion poured himself out to his old friend, now enemy. Or always enemy. Virion stood in Grimm’s shadow long during his days in the Serx military. The young man with the stronger magic, connections, and physical strength. Even after Grimm defected, there was still no tangible place for him.
“Well. I see you’ve gained some resilience after I left. What will you do with it now?” Grimm asked.
“Simple.” Virion said, before leaping forward at Grimm at an impressive speed. “I’ll kill you!”
The two fists collided. Causing a wave of power around them to be sent flying. Virion sent out his power. It began to crack the air around them. Grimm quickly backed off. He grabbed his scythe and slashed at the captain. Virion was quicker in this moment. He raised his leg, and brought the weapon to the ground, holding it under his boot. He then went for a strike to Grimm’s face. Which was interrupted by Grimm pulling the scythe and himself back. Virion didn’t let up, as he went for another, but this time striking only before him. Grimm generated a wall of ice before him as well. Which was broken by the captain's shock wave.

“Once you're dead. Things will change.” Virion said, preparing to begin the real battle.
Irene held her own against Sera. She felt small amounts of fatigue from her barriers being broken, but was able to stay on her feet. She sent large vines out to her opponent. He countered with his fire sword.
“Try this on for size woman!” Sera raised his sword into the air. From it fire leaked out and nearby him. The fire started to turn into a giant flaming avatar, gaining its own large blade in the process. Irene clenched her staff. It started to shift it’s design. Going from it’s natural spell casting staff form into a sword, with the crystal embedded in the center.
The fire giant brought it’s sword down on Irene, and she held it off but clashing her blade into the flaming blade. Despite it being made of wood, it did not burn. Sera was far too impressed. He let out a hearty laugh as she fought his avatar. However it was quickly subsided by the arrival of his superior. Princess Teresa. He composed himself. As the princess approached.
“Sera. Where’s Nimul?” Teresa questioned. Sera pointed over to the unconscious Nimul. Teresa sighed in disappointment. “Alright. Someone on this battlefield has the cover to the Genesis Tome. I’m going to find it quickly before the cannon goes off. So finished up with this woman and meet me back at the mayor's home as quickly as possible.”
Sera agreed. However. Irene was fixated on the princess.
“HEY!” Irene called out to the girl. She quickly summoned a fleet of vines to hold the fire giant in place. “You’re the princess. Guess it’s easy to tell.”
“And who are you?” Teresa asked.
“You were too young to know. Let’s just say that I’m about to return a favor. You want the cover. I have it.” Irene pulls the cover of the Genesis Tome out of her shirt. Teresa turns to the sorceress.
“We have about 17 minutes before the cannon goes off. Unless that Dracion manages to stop the controls. Everyone here will be vaporized.” Teresa threatened.
“That’s perfect. I don’t mind dying and taking you with me. Just give me time to get my people out of here.” Irene said before turning around. Teresa quickly grew angry and shot a beam of light from her staff. Irene quickly turned and deflected the attack with her bare hand. “Oh. So you prefer to die now. I can make that happen, if you so please.”

Ezra clashed with Uziro. Uziro’s armor granted him large claws on his hands, which were quick to try and slash everywhere on the swordsman. Ezra leapt and brought his sword down while it was engulfed in flames. Uziro’s claws blocked the entire attack. He then summoned a large spike from his chest, which was going to pierce right through Ezra had he not moved in time.
Then they ran at each other again, clashing their weapons. Ezra this time was able to vault over Uziro, and swung his sword to the golden knight's side. Making him roll over. However he wasn’t done. The blade now went under Uziro, and slightly launched him into the air. Followed by Ezra leaping to his side, and with one hand where the sword was. Slam it into his opponents body and send them into the ground. The sword then stood it’s tip on the floor, as Ezra was still airborne, and he turned one more time. This time using his free hand to summon a lightning spear which he flung at Uziro at close range, dealing more damage. That was the spinning dragon move.
Ezra stood on his feet. And looked at the down man. He quickly turned to Anabelle.
“Anabelle. Go back to Nicholai and free him. Have him shut down the cannon then go help Irene!” Ezra ordered her.
“Got it!” The mare agreed and ran back to Bennebs home. She found Nicholai already struggling to get himself up. “Hey. I got you.” She helped him up.
“Thanks. Where’s Ezra?” Nicholai worryingly asked.
“He’s fighting that gold guy. He needs you to shut down the cannon, do you know how?” The mare asked.
“No. But I’ll have to try. Look around for the keys. I’ll take a look at the controls.” Nicholai said. Anabelle started to look and Nicholai went to the controls. He looked onto the board of levers and buttons and immediately became confused. “Crap. I know I heard her say some things. I need to remember.”
Nicholai thought hard back to the prior day. He faked some of his sleeping to listen in on Teresa. He recalled her speaking about the power of the cannon. It absorbs the clouds and turns them into energy, there were more instructions he overheard her speak about. Enough to come to some conclusion. Anabelle came back with the keys to his cuffs. Nicholai freed himself, and felt his mana start to pulse through his body again.
“Did you figure it out?” Anabelle asked.
“I did. The problem is we can/t stop the cannon from firing. Once you start the sequence it wont stop. Benneb might know more. However what I know is that the energy can’t ramin their. If we leave it there for too long it could burst and create an explosion that could wipe us all out.” Nicholai explained.
“So how do we stop it?: Anabelle questioned. Nicholai was lost in thought and ideas. Until there existed one possible choice. He looked up and out the window, at the mountain.
“We could redirect it. If we can let the energy off somewhere else. Then everything would work. Only thing is we would need someone who could move this thing with a great amount of strength…...Grimm.” Nicholai said to himself. He ran over and grabbed his staff.
“Is that the plan?”
“It is. I need to get down to Grimm and tell him to help me redirect the cannon. We only have about 16 minutes.” Nicholai said, running out of the house.
“Wait. Nicholai. Ezra wants you to help Irene. That woman Teresa is going after her. Even if we stop the cannon if they take the cover from Irene then it’s over.” Anabelle yelled at him. Nicholai stopped himself. At first he was surprised that Irene was here. He knew how strong Irene was, but Teresa was also very powerful for someone her age. Maybe it was his time to apologize to Irene.
“‘Fine. I’ll help her then get Grimm. But it’ll have to be quick.” Nicholai said running off towards the elevator. He spotted Ezra. The two glared at each other and smiled. Knowing they were about to start what they set out to do this entire time.
Ezra then looked over to the golden knight. He rose from the rubble Ezra put him in.
“You ready to rumble? It’s time to show you what dracions are made of!”
