《Young Adversary》353rd Adversary: Satan X Hero

Human God Lennox, no one in this world didn’t know this name. He burst on the scene at the tender age of 12, defeating rising stars in the Proxy World more than 10 times his age. He shocked the world with every battle until he did something unheard of before.

He ascended to Godhood at 15 years old!

Not since the Unholy Trinity of Nero, Kimiko Mors, and Arindam Kunti has anyone raced to the top like him. He is the Pinnacle of Humanity!

Such a person sat before Miko.

“So, what do I owe the pleasure of having someone of your stature paying me a visit?”

“Nothing really. I just felt now was the time to come see you. I mean, we’re destined for each other after all.”

“You make it sound romantic, but Fate merely set it so that we would kill each other.”

“Fate, huh?”

Lennox smirked.

“As if the two of us would care about the plans of that disgusting alter ego of a system. If we’re gonna kill each other it’s because we want to.”

Miko laughed.

“I guess you’re right about that.”

He smirked.

“But I gotta say, you’re awfully confident, or should I say cocky? I mean, you walked into enemy territory knowing you would be detected immediately. Are you that confident you can escape here with your life?”

“Oh, don’t worry about that.”

He snapped his fingers. The room distorted for a second and returned to normal.

“…I see. You transported this room to a different dimension.”

Miko leaned back in his seat with a smile.

“Don’t tell me you believe I can’t break out of this space if I wanted to?”

“No, I would expect nothing less from you. But you wouldn’t do that.”

“And why’s that?”

Lennox smirked.

“Because you don’t want our talk to get interrupted. After all, this is a great event. Probably a turning point in history.”

“Really? Our little meeting is such a big deal?”

“Of course. It’s the first meeting of the Satan and the Hero.”

A huge grin crawled on Miko’s face.

“I see that you practice hubris as well.”

“You need hubris to reach my level.”

Miko burst out laughing.

“Well, you’re right Lennox. There’s a lot I want to talk to you about. Don’t tell me you forgot my question from when we were in the Invisible World?”

“You want to know my answer after traveling the eras and seeing where the world is heading, right?”

Lennox paused for a bit.

“…The world can be saved.”

The light left Miko’s eyes.

“I guess we really are enemies.”

“I understand your desire perfectly, Miko. However, I can’t abandon the humans of this world. I love them too much. I want to guide them. I want to become their hero.”

“Humans? Just humans?”

“Just humans.”

“I see. Well, I figured as much.”

Miko rested his head on his palm.

“The three of us have different answers and different goals, but our paths are the same.”

“Three?… So they found a different answer from both of us?… That’s interesting.”

“……”

Miko looked at Lennox for a while before speaking again.

“Have you told New Era about them?”

“The privilege of being a leader is that I don’t have to.”

“…Why keep it to yourself?”

“I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I think some already expected it. I don’t think it will change anything really.”

“………”

Miko became quiet.

“Let’s change the topic.”

Lennox started grinning again.

“I heard about the scheme you used to trick your family.”

“I just showed them they needed to plan a future without me. I’m not the one to lead them to prosperity. I will build the foundations but only that.”

“That’s what Renacido really is? A piece of the foundation to secure the future. A future without you.”

Lennox smirked.

“It looks like you intend to throw away everything just to achieve your goals. I like that.”

He nodded.

“But what about your family and friends? Are you really just going to abandon them?”

Miko didn’t immediately respond to Lennox’s question. The faces of his loved ones flashed in his mind. He saw his parents’ warm smiles.

*Clank!*

He saw the look of admiration in his siblings’ eyes.

*Clank!*

He saw his grandparents and other family members’ accepting embrace.

*Clank!*

He saw the allies and brothers who stuck with him through thick and thin.

*Clank!*

“……..”

Miko silently looked down. Heavy chains wrapped around his body, restricting him and weighing him down. With every face he remembered, the number of chains and the weight of restriction would increase.

“I...I have many people here who I love with all my heart. People I would do anything just to make them happy, people I don’t want to lose....”

“But you must leave them.”

Miko didn’t say anything but that in itself was the answer.

“I think I understand...Are they a burden?”

“Burden?

He shook his head.

“They’re the best thing in my life.”

“And yet, you want to remove them from it.”

He remained silent as he placed his hands on the chains.

“I love them but I can’t be with them.”

“Why?”

“Because they don’t understand me. They accept me, but they don’t understand me.”

Miko pointed at himself.

“In their eyes, I’m a hero. Someone who will protect them, someone who will always be there for them.”

He slowly shook his head.

“I’m no hero. I’m a villain to the core.”

“Well, you were born an enemy of the world.”

“This has nothing to do with that. It’s just, that what I wish for the most and the things I plan to do to get it can only be defined as evil. The funniest thing is, I’m ok with that. The problem is they won’t be.....I’m certain they will try to stop me if I’m with them when the time comes....What scares me the most is they might be able to do it.”

“And why is that not okay?”

Miko’s eyes sharpened.

“Because this cursed world must be destroyed.”

Lennox‘s body flinched. Miko was overflowing with bloodlust.

“I love them all but they are chains that restrict me from doing what is necessary. Those chains must be broken if I want to make my wish come true.”

“So they are a burden. They make you weaker?”

Miko shook his head.

“If I stay with them I’m certain I’ll become stronger.”

“Then...”

“What I need isn’t strength, Hero. What I need is resolve. One can have all the strength in the world, but can’t achieve anything because they lack the resolve to do what’s necessary to win. If you have the resolve, you will find a way, obtain a different kind of strength, and force your wishes to be granted.”

Lennox remained silent for a while. He and Miko locked eyes. The two were destined enemies, but because of this, they had a deep understanding of the other.

“Your friends give you strength and love you dearly, but you reject that because it isn’t what you need. What you need is understanding and determination, huh?”

Miko nodded.

Lennox clapped.

“Interesting.”

He started to applaud Miko.

“I’m really glad my fated enemy is such an interesting person and not someone being manipulated by destiny. You sat down, racked your brain, and struggled until you came to a conclusion about which direction to take your life. I honestly respect people like that.”

A huge grin appeared on his face.

“I can see that our future battles won’t be boring.”

Miko smiled back.

“I would hope so.”

Lennox laughed.

“I have another question, My Enemy.”

“Ask away.”

“From what I can tell, you’re setting everything in place so your empire will defeat their greatest enemy in the future. The question is, who’s the enemy?”

He pointed at himself.

“Us?”

He then pointed at Miko.

“Or you?”

“………”

“But that doesn’t make sense. Are you really willing to go that far? Are you that far gone? Are you actually planning on making your family your killers? Or are you planning to kill them yourself in order to achieve your goal?”

“………”

“So you won’t say.”

“Why would I answer when you already know?”

A grin crawled on Miko’s face.

“I chose to walk this path. There’s no salvation for me. I can no longer be saved by others nor do I wish for it.”

He tapped his heart with his fist.

“I am Satan. Not Miko, not Gamiko the third, but Satan. The sooner everyone learns that, the better.”

Lennox grinned.

“I love your conviction. Despite knowing it could only lead to your demise you’re still going to do it.”

“Aren’t you the same? To achieve your goal you must destroy the others races. You’ll be the hero that liberated the human race but only to humans. To everybody else, you’ll be a heartless monster who only brings destruction.”

“If salvation for my people can only be built on the corpses of everybody else, then so be it.”

Miko smirked.

“Some hero you are.”

“Perfect one to cut off your head, right?”

“Do you think you’re up to the task?”

“I’ll have to be. You wish to destroy the human race as well right? Then, I’ll have to slay the Devil.”

“………”

“………”

The two stared at each other in silence.

“Hahahaha!”

They suddenly burst out laughing.

“Man, all this heavy talk sure is taxing.”

Lennox wiped a tear from his eye.

“But it’s kinda fun, isn’t it?”

Miko said.

“Yeah. Who knew talking with your mortal enemy would be so fun? I should’ve visited you a long time ago.”

“I admit it does feel good talking with someone you don’t need to put up a façade around. I can be my twisted and insane self and you’ll just accept it without batting an eye.”

“I on the other hand just find you interesting. We went through the same hell yet we came to different answers. I can’t help but become eager to find out which one of us is right.”

“The winner will be who’s right.”

Lennox nodded.

“Just as it’s been since the beginning. There’s no definitive right or wrong. The winners write history, they create cultures, and they determine what’s common sense.”

He pointed at himself.

“If I win, my deeds will be hailed as righteous and I’ll be immortalized as the Greatest Hero.”

Miko pointed at himself.

“If I win, I’ll obtain the life I’ve always wanted. A life built on the corpses of billions.”

The two smirked and spoke in unison.

“If we lose, we’ll be condemned as fools who got what they deserved.”

The two stood up. Miko stretched his hand out.

“Will you be the fool or will be I?”

Lennox grasped it.

“Maybe we’re already fools obliviously marching towards our demise.”

The two shook hands as their eyes reflected the trueform of the enemy before them. A dark being stood before a radiant existence. Miko as his Satan form and Lennox in his Hero form. Smiles crawled on their faces as their grip tightened.

“My goal is the Supreme Trinity! I will defeat them all and win this war!”

Their voices overlap as cracks spread through the room. They slowly released each other’s hands.

“Looks like we’re out of time.”

A shattering noise resounded in the room.

“They work fast.”

“Do you think that you’ll survive?”

Lennox laughed.

“Who knows.”

“I’ll answer that.”

Nero appeared from a light.

“No, I don’t think he will.”

Lennox showed a dry smile.

“Boss Nero, it’s been a while.”

“Yeah, it has, Brat.”

Lennox smiled and disappeared in a flash.

“Oh, he ran away faster than I expected.”

Nero laughed. He turned to Miko.

“Did you enjoy your talk?”

“It was interesting, to say the least.”

“I see. Well, Andreas and Rouge are on Lennox’s tail. Kimiko and Celine are setting up a net to catch him. I don’t think they will though. That brat’s ability to bend fate in his favor is probably second to my own.”

“I think his Irregularity works like he’s the protagonist of a story.”

“In other words, he has plot armor.”

“Yup.”

Nero frowned.

“You Irregulars are walking cheat codes.”

“I don’t want to hear that from you.”

Just as Nero predicted, Lennox was able to escape the Dragna Empire alive. He was covered head to toe in blood and was only wearing rags.

“That place was really a den of monsters. I think that’s the closest I’ve come to dying yet.”

He was breathing heavily.

“You were a great distraction though, Leader.”

He turned his head. A man approached him carrying Alesia Dragna in his arm. He was paled-skinned, over 6ft, had black hair with streaks of white, and pink eyes. He was dressed in a white and black tuxedo and wore thin glasses over his eyes.

“Thanks to you I was able to get my beloved out no problem.”

“You’d have to thank Miko. He knew someone was there to extract her but allowed it to happen. If he had told the Branch Leaders or the Guardians she was a traitor, then Lady Kimiko would’ve rolled your head before you could get the chance to escape.”

“For that I’m grateful. I would’ve died if I had to fight my Queen. I’m just trembling to think about it.”

Arsene put Alesia down.

“Why did Miko allow us to escape?”

“Who knows? Maybe he still have some compassion left in his heart. Or maybe he doesn’t want his family burdened with killing one of their own. All that matters is that you saved her.”

Lennox tapped Arsene’s chest with his fist.

“Now that your beloved is saved, it’s time to get to work Curse King.”

Lennox grinned.

“We have a World War to prepare for.”
