《Path of the Conqueror》Chapter-11 Big Changes

Bane family also had a stronghold there. But it wasn't much compared to other Dukes. So, they didn't have much standing in Oasis. But even so, no one wants to mess with them. Because Bane family has a total of five legends and 15 super epic beings. And this was no force to reckon with.
The five legends were Zeidan, Raiser, Raina and two of his other followers Welfin and Jimin. They all have shown unparalleled strength in many planar wars, earning Zeidan the nickname of 'Grim Reaper' and his followers 'Death Knights'.
In Oasis, power was respected. So, no one has ever provoked them. It was also because till now, Bane didn't have much wealth, and the effort was not going to be rewarded. Why would anyone fight with a powerful force without any reason or reward?
But what the Oasis was most famous was for its Ivory Wisdom Academy. It has a history of producing great talents in different fields. They gave birth to great mages, warriors, clerics etc there. Every plane in the Albion alliance wants to have most seats there for themselves.
But requirements for entrance into the Academy were set very high. Even super genius sometimes doesn't get a chance. Regardless, it produces the most powerful figures of different planes.
"Hmm... I need to check this place out."
Zain was really interested in going to this place after reading so much about it.

In the next few weeks, a big change occurred in the ruling and trading system of Bane Dukedom. Many big and small warehouses were constructed all over the territory. Everyone thought that this would bring chaos to the whole territory, but even a small fight didn't occur.
Farmers and other commoners were all happy as they got relief from taxes, and decreased prices of goods. The whole territory was bustling with joy. The families who couldn't get three meals before could afford them now. Everyone was well fed now.

Opposite to everyone's expectations, the merchant guilds reacted to this change positively. Most of them joined the new Royal Stag guild. And others got jobs of managing the warehouses and stuff. This was good news for them as they now were technically serving under Duke and had strong support and one more good news was that they were paid damn high.
Of course, some nobles and merchants tried to pull up tricks in dark. But they all were rooted out through different means by the Bane family. Now, the Bane family controlled seventy percent of the market in the Dukedom. This was a huge step.
All the officials and important members of the family had tonnes of work piled up to do before the next harvest season. They were setting up warehouses, and managing them. Dealing with farmers and preparing contracts for the sale of the crops.
The farmers were quite pleased with the fact that they won't have to deal with any taxes or merchant thugs. So, that process went quite smoothly. The people of Dukedom were happy that they no more had to any tax on food.
The main task was making the new guild stable because they had just taken dozen of guilds and squeezed them together to make a new one 'The Royal Stag'. There were so many fights inside the guild that even Riana and Morris were frustrated by it.
But all stopped after Zeidan filled all the Guild master's seats. One was already given to Raina, second to Morris, third to Jimin and the next two were given to high-level guild masters who swore loyalty to the Bane family. They worked hard to manage the inner conflicts and make sure that the guild will work with full efficiency.
Soon everything stabilise and winter passed away leaving the stage for spring to come. This was the time when it was peaceful everywhere, commoners getting ready for harvesting and nobles having their fancy parties.

The palace of Vermillion city has gotten a lot noisier after all the big changes. Everyone had their hands full with all the work they had to do. Soldiers and servants could be seen running around to get the jobs done. The whole palace had an energetic vibe.
Zain had also dived into the world of books. He locked himself in his room and the door had not been opened since last month. Even Lily and Ruby weren't able to make him come out.
Because of this Zeidan was quite pissed off as their times when he could have used his son's intelligence. But he was not able to do so. The time was passing very quickly and there were many plans to be unfolded which needed Zain's assistance.
In Zeidan's room, he was sitting on his desk. Raina and Morris were standing in front of him with awkward smiles.
"What in the world that kid is doing in his room for a month?"
It was obvious that his mood wasn't quite good.
"My lord, maybe I gave him more books than I should have. Forgive me, my lord. But the young master will surely come as..."
Just then someone entered the room.
"I am here, let's discuss the plans."
It was Zain. He had dark circles under his eyes, it was clear that he had not slept for quite a while. He lazily stumbled onto the couch present in the room. Zeidan was a little irritated by his behaviour and started opening a bottle of wine.
Just as he opened its cork, Zain straightened up.
"What are you doing?"
"What? Do I need your permission to drink?"
"Why are you drinking wine which has not passed the ageing process? Didn't Chris stop you from doing so?"
"You really think he can stop me from doing what I want? Hahaha... And about the wine, I just wanted to try some unaged wine."
An amusing smile on Zain's face. He leaned back on the couch. His eyes were still fixed on Zeidan. He started humming. Zeidan stopped after seeing this.
"Oh... Why did you stop? Come on, drink it."
Zeidan couldn't bring himself to drink it. He placed the cork back and placed it back on the table. He looked at Zain.
"Wise choice, it has poison in it."
"What!!!!"
Everyone in the room screamed.

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.

Voidsong (A NaNoWriMo 2018 winner)
Synopsys: The Empire thought humanity died, and forgot all about it. The Empire is mistaken. A Note From the Author: This story was written as a National Novel Writing Month 2018 entrant. As such, its entire 50,000+ word length was written between November 1, 2018 and November 31, 2018. Overall, I would consider this no more than a polished draft. In that vein, the chapters have no names, only numbers. Special thanks to Chronus on youtube for answering my questions on NATO radio procedures! My Apologies to the Finnish Language, which I have abused in (probably) unforgivable ways to create Twisted Empire names. If anyone is interested, break the names up by commas and toss them into your favorite translation program (I used Google Translate, and tried to avoid umlauts and other accents) for some semi bilingual boni. If I got something wrong (and I know I did… somewhere…) let me know over on reddit and I will see what I can do to fix the mistake. Lyrics, where included, are cited in footnotes.
