《Decay and Deception》My thoughts about book 1 and the state of book 2
Advertisement
Oh, Book 1, Decay and Deception. Where do I even start with this 'project'.
It all started one day when I was playing a backrooms game and hanging out with my friends in a call, I was tired of collecting 'Almond Water', I thought it was the stupidest shit I had ever heard of. I've never had it, but I bet it tastes like shit, how is that a 'healing' item. Then I thought: "hey, I could do it better."
So after a month of planning, I saw the writing competition here on this site and said "it's time to put my money where my mouth is." There were ups and downs, like me almost destroying my wrists trying to aim for double to goal. Then I almost missed few deadlines once I switched to weekly because I simply got distracted.
On the other side, I had so much fun writing this novel. It... deviated quite heavily from where I wanted it to go initially, but I am okay with it. The thing with demons was unplanned all the way until the first appearance of one. I think it was the fox demon back on floor 18. I had to re-plan the later half of the story just because I felt like writing something funny.
I spent so much time on these last 4 chapters, its insane. I know some of them are short, but 39 in particular took almost a week to write and not make full of plot holes. Everything was planned way back in May once I had to stop attempting daily posts. The only thing that changed from that point was the order of the final few floors, like I swapped 37 and 38, and was even tempted to put 38 where 39 is, but it just felt wrong, so I made it the way it is now.

I'm going to come a bit clean on this one too, I finished writing Book 1 back in early July, well before it was even posted to Patreon. It gave me the time I needed to work on planning for Book 2, and with that, we come to the next topic that NEEDS to be discussed.
IMPORTANT:
Book 2, Rot and Redemption, deviates greatly from the theming of book 1. There will still be moments of suspense and horror, but the themes of loneliness are greatly subdued. Book 2 is me pushing out to the extreme in what I can write, I have planned for some of the most difficult for me to write topics.
Additionally, the chapters will be insanely long, some of the longest that I have seen posted to this site. Chapter 1, which I have completely finished editing, is 14K words long. Triple the length of my average chapter. Chapter 2 is still being worked on as of posting this and is already at 12K words, with a projected total of 18K-20K.
These chapters are hard to write and challenging to edit. I will NOT be splitting them into parts, I do not enjoy splitting chapters up if I can help it. In that, releases, when they resume, will be a minimum of 2 chapters a month. No less, but sometimes more. Posts will also still be at the same times as they are now when they are made.
With the knowledge that Book 2 is going to differ from Book 1 by quite a large margin, what do you think I should do regarding posts? Should I keep them in this fiction thread and use the feature to label it as a second book, or should I start a new fiction page for it? Poll below for those willing to vote in one direction or another. I am leaning towards continuing here, as I really don't want to start over from the beginning with followers. It took me quite a while to get to the amount I have now. (I am aware it is selfish, but big number make brain happy)

Adagio of the Enlightened
The Elders will tell you the stories and lore. Of our ancestors, their deeds, and of the foes of yore. They will praise to you the chariot, and how it flew to the stars. How it stole the sun's light and slew the night’s roar. The Shamans will tell you the tales of their wisdom. Their wars on schism, and the unlettered world of ours before. Perhaps they will sing you the songs of what our clans' ancient customs tore. Poems of how our ancestors took what the discs had offered them, the manna and the mundane, and made it more. The kings will tell you of the follies, the sins, and the anecdotes of all our ancestors' wrongs. They will curse to you their names, the Ender of Fate and the Ruined Song. How they had dug up the hearts of the discs, euchred its relics, and blasphemed its prophecies, with oracles withdrawn. But they will only tell you the legends, recount the myths, and sing the allegories washed ashore. The Elders, the Shamans, and the kings can only retell what the storytellers of their own time had voiced. What they have read in books or heard in the minstrels' songs they adore. They don't know what really happened. They were never there. They can't tell you how our ancestors slew the angels from the sky, and sent them back to where they belonged. How they poisoned our minds, and made our people slothful and feeble, with the reforms they had undergone. But I can.I can tell you how the Ender of Fate severed destiny's strings, weakened them, and weaved them to our feeble flesh and souls.I can tell you how the Ruined song razed the heavens with her blood-stained melody, and reshaped our hell into utopia, with the deaths she deplored.Because I was there. I can tell you the truth, with my virtue strong. ----> Disclaimer: This will be a slow-burn, character-driven, non-harem, slice-of-life web novel with cultivation and kingdom-building elements. Riki, a normal young man in the midst of the crowd, was astonished to see such a spectacle, but this astonishment quickly transforms into dismay. From the appearance of calm, yet scorching blue flames, he realized the sole reason she was using powers in the first place was to only protect herself from two who have possession of powers akin to hers. Thrusted into an organization filled with supernatural stargazers, Riki's only goal is to retake everything back: a journey to take back both his past and his future.
