《The poet and the bard》Take a break

A week had passed since the plan to avenge Elizabeth had come to be. Egad had been visiting Button house back and forth, and grew angrier and angrier as Elizabeth brought to light the truth about how she died.

However, it wasn't long before the ghosts realised that this wouldn't be as easy as they'd hoped.

"Well it's clear that the cause of death was choking, there's a very clear bruise around her neck." Alison hummed, giving the best description she could of Elizabeth's ghostly state to Egad, who was taking notes.

"Yes we've been over that, but what shape is the bruise? How dark is it? We need to stack up little things like this to strengthen our case" Egad groaned, he'd been here for hours now, and it just felt like they were going in circles.

Elizabeth, who was sat in a chair opposite Alison, gave a sad smile. She stood, running a hand through her hair. "Sorry guys, I need a break, this is all...a bit much".

Elizabeth left the room, hearing Alison sigh, then Egad sigh louder as Alison told him that she'd left. It was just too much to handle. It took her weeks to come to terms with her death, and now she was going back over the details, explaining everything she did that night, explaining how Derrick approached her...explaining how he-

"I can't do this" she thought. She felt her eyes start to sting as hot tears streamed down her face. She crumpled into a sobbing heap in the corridor, crying into her hands. "Fuck" she mumbled between sobs.

"Lizzy?" A familiar voice called, riddled with concern.

Elizabeth looked up, her puffy eyes meeting Thomas's. As she opened her mouth to speak, she was cut off by her lover wrapping his arms around her, moving down to sit besides her. He held her head to his chest, and planted a soft kiss on her head.

Elizabeth completely let go, sobs wracking her body. "I'm s-sorry you have to s-see me like this" she choked out. "It's just s-so hard Tom! I want to see Derrick get what he deserves but if it means revisiting every single detail of my death I don't know if I can."

She buried her head in his chest, wrapping her arms around him tightly.

Thomas started shushing her softly, smoothing her hair as he tried to get her to calm down. "I can't imagine how hard it is dearest. You are so brave for doing this."

He took her face in his hands and kissed her tear-stained cheeks. "I know something that may help you darling. It certainly lifts my mood." He smiled, taking her hands and pulling her to her feet. "You'll love it, I'm sure."

"So, what is this magical thing that's meant to make me happy?" Elizabeth asked, still sniffling slightly.

Thomas sat next to her, as Alison entered the room with a record in her hand. Elizabeth recognised it immediately. Alison opened the record playing and lifted the needle, placing the record on. She gave Thomas a thumbs up as she left the room, just as ABBA's 'Dancing queen' started.

Thomas stood up and extended a hand to his love. "May I have a dance my lady?" he grinned.

Elizabeth smiled bashfully as she took his hand. "Tom...how did you know that ABBA is my favourite band?"

"Well my love, we've watched that film about the woman in Greece about 20 times now, so I asked Alison what the music was. I know how much you love it, and...I've come to like it as well".

Elizabeth grinned widely. "Oh Thomas...you're so perfect" she swooned, resting her head on his shoulder as they danced. As the song progressed they got more into it, with Thomas twirling Elizabeth around.

The song ended with them both laughing, embracing each other lovingly. Elizabeth let out a content sigh as the opening to 'Winner takes it all' started up.

"Thomas?"

"Yes dearest?"

"Do you think we can do this? Bring Derrick to justice I mean."

Thomas looked Elizabeth in the eyes, a content expression on his face. "Yes. Because if there's one thing I've learned while being with you, it's that you don't quit. You do what's right, and you always see it through. It one of the many reasons I love you so."

"I love you so much, cariad" she said calmly, barely above a whisper.

"I love you too, my sweet."
