《The poet and the bard》High hopes

Elizabeth was woken by the familiar sound of Fanny screaming as she plummeted to ground from the window of the Captain's room. It was quite convenient to have an alarm that was always on time.

She let out a yawn, wrapping her arms around the poet laying next to her. She kissed his cheek lightly, before whispering his name in an effort to wake him, smiling warmly as she watched his eyes flutter open.

"Good morning my sweet" he croaked hoarsely, his eyes only half open. Elizabeth had never seen him like this, and it would seem that he definitely wasn't a morning person. She found it adorable.

"How did you sleep?" He asked, moving a hand to rub the sleep from his eyes.

"I slept well, the best night's sleep I've ever had, but maybe that's thanks to you" she grinned. "Should we get up? They'll start to wonder where we are".

Thomas groaned, wrapping his arms around Elizabeth and holding her close to him. "No, I just want to stay here, with you for a while longer. Being curled up with you is like being in heaven my love".

Elizabeth giggled. She could very easily wriggle her way out of the scrawny man's grasp, but she'd much rather remain in his arms for the time being.

About an hour passed, and the couple had fallen asleep again. It was only when Pat entered the room did they both wake. "Hey Liz, just seeing what's taking so lo- oh! I'm sorry I've done it again. I need to stop interrupting you two" he apologised, his face going red.

Elizabeth smiled tiredly, sitting up and leaving the bed, much to Thomas's disappointment. "It's ok Pat, it's not your fault. Why did you need me?" She inquired, letting out a yawn.

Pat cleared his throat. "Well, Alison wants to talk to you. Something about your brother". Elizabeth let out a sigh, turning to Thomas who was still on the bed, looking rather forlorn. She gave him an apologetic smile as she left the room and followed Pat downstairs.

Pat was quieter than usual, usually he was quick to ask Elizabeth how she'd slept, or how she was doing, but he said nothing. "Pat? You ok?" She asked, feeling concern for the scout leader. Pat turned to look at her, eyes dimmer than usual.

"I suppose I'm alright, I guess I'm just missing your company a bit lately. We used to talk so often, but now that you and Thomas are an item you're not around as much. I'm sure it seems silly, but I miss seeing you around as much."

Pat looked out over the garden through the window in the library, sighing lightly. Elizabeth frowned. "I suppose I have been spending a lot of time with Thomas recently. But Pat, your still one of my best friends! You were so welcoming when I first ended up here and I'm sorry I've made you feel...abandoned I suppose."

Pat smiled thinly, turning back to face the woman next to him. "Thank you Liz, that means a lot. Anyway, we should get on, Alison will be wondering where you are."

"Sure thing Pat"

"There you are!" Alison exclaimed, getting up from her seat at the kitchen table. "There's something I need to talk to you about."

Elizabeth sat on the tables and crossed her legs, "What is it?" She asked. In all honesty, she felt a bit guilty for just walking out of the room yesterday, but in her defence she was a bit overwhelmed.

"Well, before Egad left yesterday me and him both agreed that we're going to try and get the case of your death reopened in hopes of bringing that scumbag manager of yours to justice." She said, placing her hands together in anticipation.

Elizabeth frowned, "Wait, Alison, is that even possible? Don't you need a piece of plausible evidence to reopen a case? And no offence, but if you hadn't noticed I'm DEAD. I can't give a testimony, and can't present evidence-"

"Yes you can" a voice interrupted. Elizabeth turned around to see Julian, the Captain standing behind him. Elizabeth was confused. "What the hell are you going on about?" She questioned.

The Captain moved forward. "I've filled him in you see Elizabeth. Julian says that-"

"Yes yes yes" Julian interrupted, "it's MY idea, so I'm going to present it thank you. Anyway, apparently this manager of yours saying you strangled yourself with a belt, but we all know that you didn't. So, he's used fraudulent evidence. If we can prove that it didn't pay a part in your death we can get the case reopened" he finished, looking very smug.

Elizabeth was still struggling to process all of this. "Wait wait wait, we? Don't tell me you're all in on this!"

The Captain smiled, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Not all of us, Robin doesn't trust the law, but we believe that it's only right that this...fiend that killed you deserves justice!"

Elizabeth looked to Alison and Julian, who both nodded their heads. She turned back to the Captain. "So how did you get Julian to help?"

"He's allowed to play golf on my phone whenever he wants for the next two months" Alison begrudgingly stated, Julian smirking behind her.

Elizabeth exhaled heavily, running a hand through her hair. "Ahh, that the hell. I want to see that twat put behind bars more than anything. Lets give it a go! I mean, what's the worse that could happen, right?"

"Here here!" Captain exclaimed, a smile on his face at the prospect of bringing down a villain. Alison smiled widely too, she always liked helping the ghosts. "We can do this Lizzy, I know it seems unlikely but with Egad helping us too surely we'll win!"

Elizabeth smiled back "I really hope so Alison, I really hope so."
