《The poet and the bard》Slipping through my fingers

Egad reached the entrance to the house, panting heavily. He was so confused, was it truly the voice of his dead sister her could hear?

As he stood waiting for his taxi to arrive, Alison came to see what all the fuss was about.

"Are you alright? You seem really shaken up mate" she stated, placing a hand on his shoulder.

Egad turned to face her, fumbling with his phone as he tried to get it back into his pocket. "Look, I doubt that you'll believe me, but...something really strange happened while I was paying my respects. I heard...a voice, my sister's voice."

Alison had a puzzled expression on her face. She obviously knew that the ghosts existed, but she'd never met someone who had been able to hear one of them before.

She sighed, smiling. "Why don't you come in for a cup of tea, I think I might be able to help."

"Lizzy wait! Slow down!" Thomas called, running after the woman in front of him. He'd never been particularly fast, and he despised running, even in death.

Elizabeth heard his cries and slowed down slightly. "Sorry Tom, I just really need to catch my brother before he leaves!"

Eventually the pair reached the house, but Egad was nowhere in sight.

"Dammit! I think we missed him." She sighed, putting her hands on her hips. She felt defeated, she'd been presented with an opportunity to speak to her brother and she'd messed it up.

However, she was pulled out of her thoughts by a hand on her shoulder. "Lizzy, calm yourself. Come now, let's head inside, we need to sit down and figure out what's happening."

Elizabeth nodded, planting a kiss on his cheek. "Yes, of course Tom."

"So" Alison started "what happened?." She placed a cup of tea in front of Egad, who was still rather shaken up.

"W-well, I was placing the flowers down, and just as I was about to leave I hear this...voice. It said something like 'I'm just so happy to see you again'. Or something like that".

Allison nodded, sitting down with her own cup of tea. "This is a weird question, but have you ever had a near death experience?".

Egad gave a bewildered expression. "Um, no?"

Allison sighed, it was worth a try. "Well, what I'm about to tell you may also sound crazy, but I can see...ghosts."

Egad snickered slightly. He'd never been one to believe in ghosts. But he had just heard the disembodied voice of his dead sister. He thought for a moment, before letting out an exasperated sigh.

"Ahh, what the hell. If you can see ghosts, can you talk to my sister? Ask her why she spoke to me?"

Allison was surprised that he took it so well. "Uhh, I can go and find her if you want me to. She's probably around here somewhere."

"...great?"

"And this just happened?" The Captain asked again. Looking rather skeptical.

"Yes! I sort of screamed at him and he heard me. Please, you've got to believe me Cap!" Elizabeth had been re-telling the events of the past hour to The Captain and Pat, and they were turning out to not be easy to convince.

"And do not forget I was there too! I saw the whole thing, I can assure you that Elizabeth is not lying" Thomas assured, his arms crossed.

"Well, how can we say it's impossible? Robin can mess with the lights, and Julian can move things, so Elizabeth being able to talk to certain living people isn't crazy to think about" Pat pointed out.

The Captain hummed in response, twirling his swagger stick in thought. "This is a most unusual occurrence, that's for sure."

Elizabeth scoffed, "Tell me about it."

Suddenly, the group was interrupted by Allison, calling Elizabeth's name.

She entered the room they were in, Egad following behind her. "Great, here you are. I've got someone who wants to ask you a couple questions."

Egad stared awkwardly into the empty air. "Umm, hello?"

The Captain, Pat and Thomas looked at Elizabeth. She stood, walking over to the chair Egad had sat himself in.

"So what does he want to know?"
