《The poet and the bard》Lay all your love on me

A week had passed since Thomas and Elizabeth had publicised their relationship to the other ghosts. Elizabeth was thrilled that everyone was so supportive, and the Captain came around eventually.

Although today she felt anything but thrilled. As she sat on her favourite part of the roof, knees brought up to her chest.

Today was her death day.

She let out a sorrowful sigh. Had it really been four years? This was the only time of year that she wished she was alive again, wished she could've published that album.

Oh, that album.

As she sat woefully, she heard a familiar throat clear behind her. Quickly, she wiped the stray tears from her eyes and turned her head to look at Thomas.

"Are you alright, my love? I haven't seen you all day" he said softly, sitting down next to her.

"Oh Tom, I'd be lying if I said I felt alright. Today is my death day, and I'm just feeling a bit overwhelmed" she admitted, turning her head back to the horizon.

"Oh, I'm sorry Lizzy. I too get rather morose when my own death day comes around" he consoled.

Lizzy smiled, taking her eyes from the horizon. "Well I suppose it's natural to feel pained by the thought of your own death, especially when it ended before it should've" she sighed.

They sat in a comfortable silence for a while, both of them enjoying the view, until Elizabeth broke the silence.

"Have I ever told you about what made me become a musician?" She asked, turning her head to meet his eyes.

Thomas's eyebrow raised in curiosity. "No, I don't believe you have".

"Would you like to know?"

"Of course, I want to know everything about you"

Elizabeth nodded, stretching out her legs and leaning back onto the roof. "Well, I suppose I should start at the beginning. I was born into the Van Vaughan family, as you know. In my opinion, they're all a bunch of stuck up, rich aristocrats who've done nothing but benefit off of tax avoidance for as long as I can remember. I always knew I was different I suppose, my mother treated me like I would do nothing but marry a rich man and become a housewife. She never believed I had any talent."

She paused for a while, looking back to Thomas.

"My siblings on the other hand, in her eyes they were perfect. I was the youngest of three. It was Diana, Egad, then me. Diana is a pianist, and has played all around the world. She's considered to be a master of her art, and by my mother's standards is a success. Diana and I never got along. Egad became an esteemed microbiologist, and has been credited for many shocking scientific discoveries" she mocked.

Thomas was infatuated by her story telling. "I never knew you had siblings" he said.

Elizabeth scoffed, "well can you really blame me for not talking about them? Besides, Egad was always mother's favourite. And whenever I would get a scolding for being unladylike he'd always stand by and watch. The second I was old enough to take out my own bank account I nicked £5000 from her and ran. I never looked back. I knew where I wanted to go in life and I sure as hell wasn't going to let my family stop me"

Thomas sat agog, "So you ran away? Like a troubled highway woman looking for fame and fortune?"

Elizabeth laughed slightly. "Something like that. Anyway, I couldn't have done all that I did without Markus. He was a true friend to me, and he convinced me to sign up for this singing competition in Cardiff. That was the first time someone had treated my singing as a skill not a hobby, and I owe him a lot for that. I get into this competition, and somehow, I won. That's what set my career off. The following night I got the first message from home I'd gotten in a year, saying how I needed to come home, how I was bringing shame t the family. So that's when I decided. I was going to become famous. I wanted to appear on every talk show I could to rub their noses in it. I was going to re-brand the Van Vaughan name!"

She sighed, giggling slightly. "Looking back is was rather petty, but I'm still proud of what I achieved. But..." she looked to the ground. "Part of me wished that I'd tried to fix things with the family. Or...at least Egad. While he was always treated better than me, he was still a good person. And deep down, I knew he couldn't intervene when my mother hit me. Because he was just protecting himself, and I don't blame him for that."

Elizabeth is pulled out of her monologue by Thomas cupping her face with his hand. "Lizzy, you're so kind and forgiving. You became a global success all on your own accord! That's astonishing." He cooed, leaning in and kissing her tenderly.

Elizabeth smiled into the kiss, feeling for happy to have someone like Thomas in her life. "I love you Tommy" she grinned.

"I love you too, my love"

Suddenly, the pair was pulled out of their romantic embrace by Pat sticking his head out of the roof hatch.

"Elizabeth, Alison says there's someone out- oh! I'm so sorry you two I didn't mean to interrupt anything" he stuttered.

Elizabeth giggled. "It's alright Pat, what did you want to say?"

"Alison says that there's a man at the door with flowers, asking where your tree is" he shared.

Elizabeth looked confused. "Is it Markus? He usually puts flowers by my tree, but wouldn't Alison know him by now? Who could this be?" She wondered.

For context, when Elizabeth died, instead of giving her a grave on the grounds, Markus and the rest of her band had planted a Cherry blossom tree by the lake. Every year Markus would come by and put a bunch of blue Irises and the base, but this year someone else had come.

Thomas and Elizabeth made their way down to the garden, where a tall man with golden circular framed glasses wearing a large grey coat was standing.

Elizabeth knew who he was immediately, she didn't even need to see his face.

She swallows thickly, and whispered a name.

"Egad?"
