《Don't Forget Me-Matthew Espinosa》Chapter 6

McKenna's POV
Here I was. Sitting on my couch just thinking. Thinking about anything and everything.
Suddenly flashbacks of Matt and I hit me like a tidal wave. So many of them amazing, but yet in the past year, so many of them bad.
Flashbacks of Matt kissing me on his back porch.
Flashbacks of going to the beach together.
Flashbacks of us watching the stars.
Flashbacks of us going to the movies.
Flashbacks of our first fight.
Flashbacks of our most recent one.
Flashbacks of the breakup.
Matt broke my heart yet I keep thinking about him. I mean come on, I'm dating a boy just to make him jealous!
I guess when he started dating Jenn it finally hit me that I like him still.
Then I start thinking of Taylor. Sure I'm only dating him to make Matt feel bad but I have to admit,
I am starting to fall for him.
I said it. I am starting to actually fall for Taylor Caniff.
He is the exact opposite of Matt. I guess that's what I need though. I guess I might like bad boys.
"McKenna!" My mom screams walking inside the house after picking Karlie up from dance.
"I'm in the living room!" I reply loudly.
Karlie walks into the room.
"Hi Kenna." Karlie said smiling yet sounding weak.
She looked sick.
"Hey Kar! Are you feeling well?" I ask curiously.
"No, mommy says I have a fever." She responded flatly.
My mom walked into the room.
"Karlie, why don't you go up to bed? I know you love first grade and you don't want to miss it tomorrow. You need sleep to get better and I'll be right up to kiss you goodnight." My mom tells her clearly because she wanted to talk to me.
"Ok, Mommy!" Karlie replied running upstairs to bed.
My mom looked at the staircase checking to see if Karlie was in her room.

"I'm worried about her." She said in a hushed voice turning back and looking at me.
"Why?" I ask. It's all I can think to respond.
"She has been getting headaches a lot the last couple of weeks. She has constantly been getting fevers or chills. She has also been really tired. She doesn't want to get out of bed." My mom answers my question.
"It's nothing, Mom. I'm tired a lot and I'm not ill!" I try to make light of the situation.
"I suppose you're right. I am probably over thinking this way too much!" My mom says though still looking a bit concerned.
"She's fine. Trust me." I say looking into her eyes.
***
Finally it's Friday. My favorite day of the week!
I throw on my uniform and put my hair into a French Braid. Then I put on my favorite American Eagle headband and finish getting ready.
I walk out the door to catch my bus so I don't have to run to school like the other day.
I get on the bus and sit next to Jess.
After about 15 minutes, we arrive to school.
I walk down to my locker to get my books for first period because I didn't bring them home last night.
Of course, Taylor is standing by my locker.
"Hey Tay Tay." I say playfully knowing he doesn't enjoy that nickname.
He rolls his eyes.
"Very funny. Anyways, can I ask you something?"
"Of course! Go ahead." I respond.
"Would you like to go on a date with me?" He asks shocking me.
I truly didn't think he would ask me out.
"Sure! When and where?" I tried not to sound desperate.
"Tonight at 7:00, at the carnival."
He knows I love carnivals.
"Sounds like a plan! I'll talk to you later!"
"Cool. Bye Kenna."
I watched him walk down the hallway.

I almost screamed. I'm going on a date with Taylor!
I grabbed my books and happily skipped to class.
The day dragged on for what felt like forever and finally school was over.
As soon as I got home I ran into my room to get ready and changed.
After thinking for a little, I decided to curl my hair into loose beach waves. Once I finished the curls I moved onto makeup.
I curled my lashes and put on enough mascara to make my lashes look huge without making them look clumpy. I then put on concealer, foundation, and did a smokey eye look. I topped off the look with a reddish colored baby lips.
Finally I picked out an outfit.
I went for a pair of white high waisted shorts and an aqua tank crop top. Luckily the shorts were long enough to cover my cuts, which sadly more were freshly done a day ago. I put on matching sandals and accessorized with an anchor necklace.
I thought I looked perfect so I walked out the door with my green and pink penny board. I texted Taylor that I was on my way and started to the carnival.
I was jumping up and down with excitement by the time I got there.
"Yo, Kenna, over here!" I heard Taylor scream as I walked through the entry way.
I chuckled slightly and walked over to him.
"Hey Tay, so what are we planning on doing today?" I asked but noticed he was staring at a girl with shorts two sizes too small. Oh great.
"Earth to Taylor!" I said snapping my fingers.
"Oh sorry, um what did you ask?" He asked turning his head and looking at me.
"I asked what are we planning on doing today?" I repeated very irritated.
"Just having fun. I know that won't be hard because how could it be when I'm with you?" He winked.
Ugh. I love it when he winks.
"Let's go ride some rides." I smiled.
"Sounds great!" He grabbed my hand and held it tight.
After about an hour of running around, I saw a familiar face.
This is just what I need right now.....
I pull into this dumb fair that my family is forcing me to go to.
"You'll have fun Matt!" My sister, Kristen, said laughing at how annoyed I was. I just ignored her.
When we walked into the entrance I walked over to the food cart, of course.
I turned around and there she was.
With Taylor.
Anger surged through me. I do not want to date Jenn. Nor did I ever want to. I guess I only wanted her because I couldn't have Mckenna. I want Mckenna now. I always did. Especially now that she's with Taylor. I walk up to them.
"Can I talk to you Kenna?" Matt asked looking at me.
"Ok?" I say awkwardly.
"Alone." He finishes quietly.
"Ok." I take a deep breath and follow him as he walks to behind the food stand.
"I know what happened between us was really awkward, but I don't see why we can't be friends." Matt explains.
"We can't be friends because you're a jerk Matthew! You call me names and act horribly to me every chance you get!" I speak harshly yet at a normal tone.
"I'm sorry." He looks at me and I can see his eyes are getting glossy. Filling up with tears.
I breathe in slowly.
"You are not forgiven. Why are you apologizing now anyways!?" I speak louder.
"I-I don't know." His eyes are even redder now and a small tear almost comes from his eye but he wipes it off.
"Bye Matthew." I state and walk away.
I do still like Matt a little but I'm done playing his game.
Done.
