《The Silent Queen》Tarrey Town

"Welcome to Tarrey Town!"

Link showed Zelda the small town with a flourish and a huge grin on his face.

"Oh, Tarrey Town?" Zelda repeated, "Isn't that the town that you-"

"Helped build from scratch?" Link finished, "Yes. Yes it is."

They guided their horses across the narrow, natural bridge and entered the town which looked like a small toy diorama.

"Hey, its you!"

A stout man with a beard and moustache hurried over to the pair to greet them. He had very muscular arms and looked like a very efficient builder.

"It is me, Hudson." Link greeted as he dismounted his horse and shook hands with Hudson.

Hudson then turned his attention to Zelda.

"Does her name end in 'son'?"

"Zeldason." Link giggled under his breath.

"No, my name is Zelda. Nice to meet you."

"Queen Zelda?" Hudson asked, "Sorry, I didn't recognise you, I don't know what's come over me. I've heard a lot about you from Link, though."

"All good things I hope..." Zelda said as she glared at Link.

"Oh yes, things like how you've got very pretty eyes, nice hair, a beautiful face, a nice-"

"Yes. Yes. We get the point!" Link interrupted hastily.

"So, Mr Hudson, you and Link built this town from scratch?" Zelda asked as their host walked them around the small town.

"Indeed. The boy helped me in such a way that I could never repay him." Hudson replied joyfully.

"You need not mention it." Link said graciously, though Zelda could see the slight smirk on his face.

"You've done a very good job with it." The Queen noted, "A very fine place to live."

"We always have room for two more." Hudson suggested hopefully, "And perhaps a few more in the future."

"Are you planning on expanding this town?" Link asked, his face a slight shade of red.

"If I can, I will. Maybe we could add some more buildings around the bank."

"Tarrey City..." Zelda said thoughtfully, "What a nice prospect."

They walked up to the edge of the little piece of land where a wooden deck was facing the scenery to the West of the town.

"The house next to the entrance is unoccupied." Hudson stated, "You guys can stay there during your visit. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. Anyone here would be more than willing to help."

"Ok, thank you." Link said.

"I'll leave you two to it." their host said, "Good day."

Link and Zelda sat down on the wooden deck and stared in wonder at the view before them. The orange and red colours of Akkala were simply wonderful in Zelda's opinion. The cool breeze which whistled through her ears and the fresh air was just serene. Maybe they could have a house here. Stay here more often. It was just the perfect place.

"A nice place to live, isn't it?" Link asked, as though reading her mind.

"It really is." Zelda agreed.

"Maybe we could buy a house here..." Link pondered as he laid down with his hands behind his head.

Zelda pounced on the word 'we'. What did he mean by 'we'? Did he mean 'we' as in the royal way to say 'I', or 'we' as in..

"Yes, imagine a house, Zelda." Link continued eagerly, "A living room with a large fireplace and a couch with many cushions. A massive kitchen with enough ingredients to make whatever I wanted."

"Not to mention your own walk-in closet." Zelda giggled.

"Genius!" Link exclaimed, "Gee, Zelda, you sure do know what I want."

She laid down and shuffled closer to Link and rested her head on his shoulder and placed a hand on his chest.

"Of course I do, silly."

"And I'm sure you'd want a huge library with many books." Link smiled, "All of them about ancient technology and an age long gone."

After hearing his statement, Zelda sat up and gasped, covering her mouth with her hand.

"W-what happened?" Link asked as he too sat up, his voice full of worry.

"I didn't bring any books on ancient technology." Zelda whimpered after a while.

Link sighed with relief and laid down again.

"You gave me a heart attack, Zelds, don't do that again." Link scolded, "I thought something serious had happened."

"Oh, but it is serious!" She cried, "I only brought a book on ancient history, but not technology!"

"But why would you want to read when you're out having fun with me?" Link questioned.

"Link!" Zelda exclaimed.

"Sorry..." he mumbled, "if it makes you feel any better, we can stop at Robbie's lab here in Akkala and see if he has any books for you."

"That would be great."

The two laid there, cuddling together on the warm wooden deck.

"Hey Zelda..."

"What?"

"I really love you."

"I sure hope you do."

"No, I mean I really love you." Link declared as he fumbled in his pocket for the small box, "damn! Where is it?!"

"Where's what?" Zelda asked.

"Oh, never mind, I've probably left it in my bag." Link sighed after a while.

"Left what?"

The General pondered the situation. He could ask now and give it to her later. But it'd be more classy with it. No, he should do it now.

"Zelda, will you-"

"It's the monster cake guy!"

A small girl with her brown hair up in pigtails hurried over to the pair. Behind her was a very grumpy looking man, who disapproved of the young couple sitting down on the wooden deck.

"Hi Hunnie." Link greeted reluctantly.

"Hi!" Hunnie exclaimed, "dad is very mad that you're sitting in our spot."

"Oh, sorry about that..." Link said, rubbing the back of his neck bashfully as he gained eye contact with the grumpy man, "Sorry, Hagie. We'll be going now."

"That's sir to you, little man!" Hagie spat disgustedly, "now begone, you are ruining my family time with my daughter."

Link and Zelda rushes away from the spot and decided to go check out the house in which they will be staying in.

"What a rude man!" Zelda exclaimed furiously, "I had half a mind to tell him that he was talking to the Queen's... Uh..."

"Boyfriend is not something a Queen would say she has." Link said, "General will do."

But Link was very tempted to say something else. But it was risky, and could blow up the whole plan-which wasn't-actually-a-plan-but-still-a-plan-in-some-way.

"The Queen's General." Zelda finished, "who also happens to be her boyfriend but we don't talk about that."

"Carry on your rant, I'm thoroughly enjoying it." Link said, bemused, as he opened the door to their lodging.

"I mean he even asked you to call him sir!" She continued, storming into the house, "and he told us to go away even though we got there first. What a horrible, nasty, repulsive man!"

"His wife is nice, though." Link added thoughtfully.

Zelda shot him a deadly look.

"B-but she's a bit too old for me!" He said hastily, going red, "and his daughter, Hunnie, is a real darling. I helped her recover from her illness with some monster cake. The poor creature was bed-bound until I showed up."

"What a lovely house." Zelda remarked, completely disregarding her rant, "I could live here."

"Hudson said that there was room for more."

"No, I couldn't." Zelda sighed, bowing her head, "when this is all over we have to go back, and carry on with our duties,"

She sat down on the couch and stared at the floor. Link smirked and sat down next to her, putting an arm around her.

"What if we didn't?"

"Not go back?" The Queen exclaimed, "But Link-"

"You're the Queen." He said, "you can go wherever you want, do whatever you want... Eat whatever you want..."

Zelda groaned angrily and shoved him away.

"That's such a stupid misconception!" She cried, "everyone thinks that everything is easy because I'm the Queen, yet it's the complete opposite! I was rather hoping you knew better..."

Link recovered from the shock of her sudden out burst and dared himself to sidle closer to her.

"No, I do understand..." he said softly, "maybe not as much as I should, but I get the point. My point being is that you don't have to carry on if you don't want to. No one is forcing you to be Queen."

"Someone is..." Zelda whispered, "Myself. I've already let Hyrule down once. It costed lives. I can't let Hyrule down again."

"The calamity wasn't your fault." Link snapped, a bit too much anger in his voice.

The Queen jumped at his sudden change in tone. Link then sighed, ashamed.

"It wasn't your fault, Zelda." He said again, regaining the gentleness in his voice, "no one is to carry any blame."

"If I had just unlocked my powers earlier, many lives could have been spared." She continued, her eyes glistening with tears.

"Whatever happened happened, but we have to move on."

"That's easy for you to say!" Zelda shouted, "you remember nothing!"

She whimpered at her outburst and dug her face into his shoulder.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that..." she sobbed.

Link rubbed her back gently and held her close. It was true. He didn't remember enough to mourn for the past Hyrule. The only things he remembered were the memories of her, and those were the only memories he needed.

"Shall I make you some fruitcake?" He asked cautiously.

Zelda lifted her head and locked her green eyes with his blue ones. After a while she sniffed and wiped her face with her sleeve.

"I could do with some fruitcake." She said with a smile.
