《The Silent Queen》Early Riser

Zelda's eyes slowly flickered open to see the sun's beams flooding through the curtains into her room. As she watched the golden light scatter about, the sound of someone loud snore made her almost yelp out in fear. She glanced over at Link, who was sprawled across his side of the bed in only his boxer, with his blonde hair covering his face.

Zelda sighed and sat up and swung her legs over the bed so that she was perched on the edge, her silk night gown touching the floor.

She then thought back to what had happened the night before. She and Link had got back to the ball, way past midnight, and had dismissed the guests promptly, before hurrying up to her bedroom and passing out on the bed out of sheer exhaustion. She had guessed that Link was far to tired to go to his own room, and Zelda was thankful of that. It had been a while since they shared a bed, and she had quite liked waking up to the sound of his snores again.

"Why are you up so early?"

Link groaned as he rubbed his eyes and squinted at her.

"I can't sleep if you keep on snoring." She replied.

"I don't snore." He mumbled, resting his head on his pillow again.

"You do, and its exceedingly infuriating." Zelda snapped.

"Do pardon my photosynthesis." Link said matter-of-factly.

"I'm honestly surprised that you even know that word exists." She sighed, "Do you know what it means?"

"It means, 'you're being annoying, so shut up'." He replied hotly.

He crossed his arms over his chest and stared up at the ceiling.

"Are you planning on having a haircut any time soon?" Zelda asked.

"A haircut?!" Link repeated sceptically, "You must be crazy!"

Zelda smiled and shuffled closer to him, resting his head on her lap as she ran her fingers through his hair.

"It's just impossible to tame." She carried on, "I thought you'd like to go for the more classic look."

"What, my hair parted into curtains?" Link chuckled, "What a ridiculous look."

Zelda continued to stroke his hair, and Link felt his eyelid become heavy as they slowly veiled his sky blue eyes.

"For the love of Hylia!" Zelda cried, "You are so lazy!"

"Its early!" He whined as her turned to the side, pulling the blanket over himself, "And we went to bed late!"

"You have things to attend to today." Zelda explained as she pulled the blanket off of him.

When she did that, Link could feel the cold stabbing at his bare body, so he curled himself up as tightly as he could.

"Its cold!" He cried.

"Then maybe wear more clothes to sleep!" Zelda snapped.

"I've slept for one hundred years in just my pants, its become a habit."

The Queen sighed as she got up and walked into the bathroom.

"Wait, that reminds me." Link said hastily before clambering out of bed and standing near the bathroom door, "Who took my clothes off, and who changed my pants?"

"What?" Zelda called out from the bathroom.

"Well, I realised that I woke up in different pants from when I took you to the Spring of Wisdom..." Link carried on as he searched in the drawers for some clothes, "Aha! I knew you still kept some clothes for me!"

He pulled out a pair of beige trousers and a dark blue tunic, then smiled at them triumphantly.

"Link!"

His head turned to the bathroom door.

"What?" He demanded.

"Towel!"

He rolled his eyes and sighed as he opened another drawer and produced a green towel.

"Here." he opened the bathroom door slightly as he stuck his hand in and handed over the towel.

By the time Zelda emerged from the bathroom, now donned in a light blue gown, Link was already dressed and was impatiently waiting for the Queen to be ready.

"Why do you women always take so long to get ready!" He whined.

"That's is so rich coming from you!" Zelda snapped as she brushed her hair, "I remember when you spent so long in the bathroom that I was late to a meeting."

"Yeah, well-"

"And when you couldn't decide what to wear for a dinner, so we ended being late to that, too." Zelda continued.

"That's not the-"

"And, not to mention." She set down her brush and made her way to Link, then straightened out his tunic, "The time when you couldn't leave your room being you were having a bad hair day."

"My hair was wild, nobody could see me like that!"

"Shall we go have breakfast?" Zelda airily asked as she walked over to the door, "Or are you too busy sorting out your eyebrows?"

Link touched his eyebrows gently as Zelda giggled and hurried out of the room.

"Why you little- come back here!"

He chuckled as he bolted the door open and perused after the fleeing Queen, and soon, he was hot on her heels.

"How in the world do you run in that thing?" He asked.

"Practice." Zelda replied breathlessly, determined to not let the General catch her.

And there she saw it. The doors of the dining hall, right in front of her. It was only a matter of a few more strides before she got there first.

"Gotcha!"

Zelda was only a few meters away from the door when Link grabbed hold of her and pinned her against the wall.

"No fair!" She mumbled.

A grin spread across Link's face as he held her arms to stop her from breaking free.

"Looks like I win, again." He said cheekily as he swiftly let go of her and flung open the oak doors.

"You're such a killjoy." Zelda muttered as she trudged over to the dining table, where servants were waiting with trays in their hands.

"What's for breakfast today?" Link asked eagerly, taking a seat.

"The Queen requested for crepes the other day." A servant replied.

"Crepes?!" Link repeated.

"Yes."

The servants set the tray down in front of them and revealed the sweet delicacy.

"Oh, come on, Link, they're delicious." Zelda smiled, digging into her breakfast.

"No they're not." He replied, his mouth already stuffed with food.

They ate in silence, but it was a comfortable silence. It was a silence suggesting that both of them enjoyed eating, and didn't want to be disturbed from doing so.

"So, are you going to pack your bag?" Link asked when he was done.

"Yes. Uh, what do I need to bring?"

"Everything." Link answered, "Warm clothes, cold clothes, normal clothes, hot clothes..."

"Hot clothes?"

"You get the point, just bring everything." He snapped as he got up from the table, "We'll leave at midday, so don't mess around."

"Yes, Link, don't mess around." Zelda said with a sweet smiled, "I'll see you later."

"Until the... Afternoon." Link said with a wince, "Parting in such sweet... Necessary...."

"You've had four years to improve..." Zelda sighed.

"Hey, I'm not the romantic type." Link cried out defensively.

"I know." Zelda said warmly, "'Until the 'morrow. Parting is such sweet sorrow.'"

My question or you: what do you think of the relationship between Link and Zelda in this story so far? Is there anyway I could improve it?
