《The Wonders of Fall; A Modern Zelink AU Story》Black Saturday and the Turkey Bowl (15)

After her morning shower, Zelda walked out of the bathroom and into her room. She should have know that Aryll and Tetra would try and talk to her.
"How was the date sis?" Tetra asked excitedly.
"Yeah! Did my brother behave himself?" Aryll asked, "I hope he treated you right."
"Yes he did," Zelda said a little dreamily.
"Well how was it?"
"Where'd you go?"
"Did you hold hands-"
"-okay it's time for you two to get out of my room," Zelda said pushing the early-teens out of her room.
"But Zelda-"
They continued to resist. Tetra managed to squeeze in a last question as the door was shut, "did you guys kiss?"
The door rather hardly slammed shut. After waiting a few moments and hearing the girls walk away, she walked to her bed exhausted.
Dealing with young kids was hard sometimes. But that didn't mean didn't enjoy their curiosity.
Last night really had been amazing. Link seemed more joyful that usual, and he had said that he had enjoyed the date.
But...now what?
Now what was the question indeed. Now what was she going to do? Should she wait for him to ask about their relationship? Should she ask him out again soon?
If absolutely nothing happens, Zelda decided, I suppose the next thing I could do is give him a Christmas present in a month.
Still. It was a month. There wasn't really a reason that things should stay undecided. Maybe he wasn't even considering a closer relationship at all.
She crawled over to her calendar that was hanging on the wall next her bed. Tomorrow was Saturday, and then they still had a full week of November until December. Then there were four weeks until Christmas. She couldn't wait five weeks to hint her affections again.
She sighed and fell onto her bed. She was going to have to think about this. Giving a happy sigh, she began to get ready for the day.

During breakfast, Zelda's mother made a disturbing announcement.
"How about we all go shopping today? I've just looked online and many of the stores around here still have Black Friday sales, making it sort of like a Black Saturday! since we couldn't go yesterday, why not today?"
Link's stomach rolled uncomfortably. This was the last thing he would want to do was go Black "Saturday" shopping. He worked at a store; he knew how crazy it could get. There was no way he wanted to go.
Luckily for him, Zelda's father didn't look like he wanted to go either. Noticing Link's uncomfortable face, he said, "I think it'd be good for Link and I to go to the Turkey Bowl."
Turkey Bowl? Link wondered, "what's that?"

"It's a tradition our town has," Rhoam explained, "just a little football game down at the field. Fathers bring their sons and everybody plays. Would you like to come with me?"
For some reason Link strangely felt as though Rhoam were suggesting that he be his son in law. He glanced over at Zelda who quickly looked away.
"That sounds like fun," Link said. It honestly didn't. But it sounded better than going shopping.
The next thing he knew, Link was sitting in the passenger seat of a tall truck, next to Zelda's father. It was a bit awkward.
Rhoam began to speak, "I want to thank you Link."
Link looked over, "for what?"
"For being good to my daughter. She admires you you know."
"She does?" Link wondered out loud. Link didn't really see anything in himself that he would call "admirable."
"Oh yes," Rhoam continued, "we've noticed her growing happiness, that started on the day you invited her to read in you're home."
Link stayed silent and didn't know what to say. It did make sense, for her to admire him, she has asked him out after all.
"How was the date?"
Link smiled, "it was amazing. Best date I've ever been on."
"Did you tell her that?"
Link looked out the window, "not those word exactly."
"It would mean a lot to her."
"I'll tell her when I get the chance."
Soon they arrived at the field. There was still snow on it from yesterday; nevertheless there was a group playing football.
It looked like he majority of the players were older men, Link possibly being the youngest. Didn't Rhoam say that the father's brought their sons?
As they walked towards the group, the snow crunched under the feet. It was cold enough to see one's breath, but warm enough to be comfortable.
As they further neared, everyone stopped practicing and gathered together in the center of the field.
"They must be splitting teams," Rhoam said and the two of them jogged over to the center.
Before they reached there, a young man turned to look there way and Link instantly recognized him as he called his name, "Link!"
A stature boy, towering over Link grabbed his hand and shook it, "its so good to see you!"
"It's great to see you too Sidon," Link said smiling back. First Revali...now Sidon...how humorous.
Sidon had been one of Link's High School acquaintances. They knew each other fairly well and had been quite competitive in sports.
"Why are you in this part of town?"
"Oh, I'm staying with Zelda's family," Link said nodding to Rhoam, "I had Thanksgiving with them."

"Ah," Sidon gave Link a sly smile, "you like her don't you?"
Link stepped back a little, surprised at the inference, "I..."
"It's alright I'll stop teasing you," Sidon laughed, "let's get into teams." As they walked towards the middle Sidon called to the man dividing teams, "hey Rusl! Please put this fine man on the opposite team as me!"
Rusl gave him a thumbs up and continued what he was doing.
Sidon turned to Link again, "let the best team win Link! You'll do great!"
Link nodded back, suddenly more nervous than he had previously felt.

"How does this look?" Zelda asked her mother as she sported a nice sweater.
"I think it suits you!" Zelda's mother said excitedly, "go take it off again so we can put it with the rest."
When Zelda returned from the dressing room both Aryll and Tetra were holding out different sweaters.
"What are those for?" She asked them.
Aryll handed her the sweater, "Link would like this on you I think."
"Wha-" Zelda started as she accepted the jacket, he would? Wait...what are you two doing?
"This would make him fall for you too," Tetra said handing her another one. Zelda couldn't stop her face from flushing.
Zelda's mother just watched and laughed, "you really like him don't you?"
Zelda hesitated. She wasn't exactly fond of her family knowing these facts. "Yes."
"Well I must say," her mother continued as they continued to browse, "you picked out quite a fine young man. Father approves of him."
"WHAT?"
Zelda's voice could be heard throughout the store. She covered her mouth quickly and looked at her mother in shock.
Her father was not a picky man, unless it came to her boyfriends. Though she had never sought for one before Link, she had been sought after.
From those sorts of experiences and his disapproval of all that had ever come her way, she was surprised to hear that he approved of Link. Not like that was bad in any sort of way.
"Don't let him get away," Zelda's mother taunted, "it may be a long time until father approves of someone else."

"Well boy it looks like you're the youngest on our team," Rusl said, speaking for the rest of the team, "looks like you're the quarterback."
"Eh?"
Quarterback. When was the last time he had thrown a football? Oh yes. The last time was when he had thrown a football was to Aryll who mis-caught it and it had hit her in the face. And that was why he hadn't thrown a football since.
Link tried to explain the problem, "um...I haven't had very much practice throwing footballs..."
But none of the men wanted to hear it. They were all excited that they had a young boy on their team; they had faith he would be an excellent thrower.
Rusl directed everyone two piles of unsatisfying looking rags by the line. Each member of each team was to put his team's color rag in each pocket. When the rag was pulled from the pocket of the player with the ball, the play would be over, or if they stepped out of bounds.
Once the teams had the "flags" they split off into there sides.
"I uh..." I guess I'm stuck.
Rhoam, who was on Sidon's team, waved and gave him a thumbs up. Link nervously waved back.
I don't think this is going to go well...
Link's team started with the ball. When Sidon saw that Link was the quarterback he shouted some motivating words to Link. Sidon also mentioned how it would be the perfect competition.
It didn't go very well to say the least. First down Link overthrew a completely open pass. Second down a player got through the line and pulled his flag. Third down he threw an interception.
Soon after that, Sidon threw an impressive touchdown. Discouraged, Link hung his head a little. He wasn't looking too good on the field, and he may be embarrassing Rhoam. Not to mention, Sidon was beating him. He wasn't exactly enjoying himself.
Rhoam walked up to Link and started giving him advice, "don't feel rushed. If you see an open pass, stay calm and hit him. If not, there's other options."
After a bit of reassurance, Link felt ready to play again.
The ball once again in his hands, Link started to look around wildly for receivers. After seeing them either covered or too far away he looked in front of him. The line was making an opening for him to run through!
Link took his chance without hesitation and ripped through the line. The opposing team desperately reached for his flags, but he was running to fast.
Once out of the concentrated area, he could feel someone closely behind him. Refusing to look behind him, Link kept running as fast as he could. He could hear his trailer's footsteps crunch in the snow.
His pursuer fell to the ground and Link ran into the end zone.
Happily yelling his team joined him there and his team celebrated the touchdown. Looking over, Link saw that Sidon had been the one chasing him. Getting up he smiled at Link and called, "see? I told you you'd be great!"
Zelda's father walked up to him too, patting him on the shoulder. "You did well. If only Zelda had seen you eh?"
"Zelda? So you actually do like Zelda?" Sidon asked, happily surprised.
Link scratched the back of his head and smiled, "I...don't know."

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
