《The Wonders of Fall; A Modern Zelink AU Story》The Secret is Out (9)

For what seemed to be the millionth time, Zelda was driving down to the Forrester home. It was common routine; why was she suddenly more nervous this time?
Yesterday Aryll and Tetra had played a prank on Link and his date (mostly his date) that involved exploding water balloons. Link had come home (very wet) and didn't seem to be disappointed or sad at all.
His lack of action had given Zelda hope: maybe he wasn't interested in either of the girls that had asked him out?
Did that leave her an opening of some kind? Maybe he was just the kind of person that expected people to ask him out and he was waiting for Zelda to make a move?
No...Link isn't that kind of person, Zelda thought, he's not prideful like that.
"What are you thinking about sis?" Tetra inquired suddenly.
Zelda dangerously slammed on her brakes causing the two of them to lurch forward suddenly in their seats.
"ZELDA WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE ARE CARS BEHIND US!" Tetra screamed.
"AHHHH!" Zelda yelled as she pushed the gas all the way down and the car flew forward again. Tetra looked at her sister skeptically.
"You must have been deep in thought huh?"
Zelda sighed, "I guess you could say that."
Tetra checked over her shoulder to look at the car behind them, "he doesn't look happy..."
"You think?"
"Zelda please-what is going on?" Tetra asked sincerely.
"I..." Zelda stammered. She didn't know what to say. She couldn't tell Tetra could she? She would tell Aryll and of course then the secret would find it's way to Link, "I don't know."
Tetra folded her arms and looked out the window, "I bet you're just mad about how your romance ended."
Zelda smiled, she had finished A Love's Nightmare, her romance novel, the night before and had announced it through the open door of her room. She hadn't sounded mad though...
Zelda shrugged, "no I liked the ending. And now I have a new one to read."
Aryll groaned, "what's the name of this one?"
"The Wooden Chair," Zelda said proudly.
"The Wooden Chair?" Tetra asked, "it's a romance novel and it's called The Wooden Chair?"
"Yes!" Zelda said frustrated, "what did you expect? A Night Full of Kisses? Not every novel needs an explicit title."
"Sounds lame," Tetra said, "just like all the other ones."
"It's not lame!" Zelda countered.

"It's your word against the title," Tetra said smugly.
How can a twelve year old be so good at making me feel horrible? Zelda thought, why does she make fun of me like this?
She decided to play it cool and not reply, adding fuel to the fire wouldn't do her any good.
Tetra shyly piped up again, "hey sis?"
"Uh huh?"
"Do you think Link is cute?"
That was completely random. Why would she ask that?
Zelda took a deep breath, there wasn't anything wrong with telling her. "Yes."
"Whoa really?!" Aryll said excitedly bouncing up and down on her seat, "what if you and him got married? Then me and Aryll would be related!"
Zelda swerved in and out of her lane dramatically, causing both of them to scream at the top of their lungs.
"ZELDA WHAT IS WITH YOU TODAY?" Tetra yelled.
"I DON"T KNOW!" Zelda yelled back.
After she had repositioned the car in the correct lane, she responded to Tetra's outburst shocked and red in the face, "wh-what?!"
"Well, we would be related wouldn't we?" Tetra asked with big eyes.
Zelda looked away and towards the road again, "well you wouldn't really be related to Aryll if...if Link and I were to get married-which is crazy by the way."
"Yeah we would!"
"Very indirectly."
"How?"
"Just think about it," Zelda said annoyed, "I wouldn't even be related to my husband by blood. We are through marriage but not through blood. So you being my sibling you wouldn't really be related to his sibling through anything."
Tetra sighed, "I guess that makes sense. But still: we'd be related indirectly."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night Tet."
"Oh we're almost to Link's house!" Tetra said peering happily out of the window.
Zelda smiled, indeed they were. And it wasn't until they had parked and Tetra had ran out of the car that she realized that Tetra had said 'Link's' house instead of 'Aryll's' house. Zelda frowned; she had never done that before.
"C'mon you slowpoke!" Tetra called to her from the doorstep.
"I'm coming," Zelda said stretching her arms above her as she walked up the stairs.
Link answered the door and Zelda dropped her book in surprise. It shouldn't have been a surprise that Link could open the door even though it was usually Aryll.
"Oh, your book." Link stooped up and picked up for her. He looked at the title as he handed it back, "The Wooden Chair huh?"

The memory of Aryll saying it sounded lame just from the title came back to Zelda and her cheeks reddened as she took it from him, "y-yeah..."
She followed him inside, "is it any good?"
Zelda saw Tetra looking at her with a little smirk behind Link. Zelda looked back at the floor. "Well I haven't gotten that far through it...but so far it's been good."
"Another romance?"
"Yeah..."
"Well I'll let you read it then!" He walked out of the living room with a small bounce in his step.
He seems happier than normal...Zelda thought to herself as she sat down in her usual spot. Maybe he's glad that the date turned out sour? He didn't look happy when he told me he was going out again...
"Hey sis!"
Zelda looked over to see Aryll and Tetra rolling around on the floor under the coffee table, "what are you guys doing?"
"Nothing," one of them said as they stood up again and sat on either side of her.
She looked at Tetra and raised one of her eyebrows, "what's going on?"
Tetra peeked around Zelda to look at Aryll. Aryll leaned forward as well and looked at her friend. Zelda looked back and forth between them.
"Would one of you please tell me what you're up to?"
The two girls hopped of the couch almost simultaneously and kneeled in front of Zelda.
They looked up at her with extremely happy expressions.
The girls glanced at each other again and Tetra said, "we have a secret to tell you. But first you need to answer a question."
Zelda shrugged, "okay." The secret is probably something insignificant.
"Do you like Link?"
The question took her of guard. What?
The honest answer was yes, but why would she tell that to a pair of twelve year olds?
But...
If this was the topic, maybe the secret was about Link. What if they knew if he liked her?
She took her chances. Blushing like crazy she said, "yes I do."
The two girls stood up and cheered, "YAYYYYYYY!"
"SHHHHH!"
"That's so cute sis!"
"What's the secret?" Zelda hissed.
Tetra looked at Aryll. Aryll looked at Tetra. After a moment Aryll smiled and turned to Zelda.
"We're going to set you and Link up."
Zelda dropped The Wooden Chair. That was the secret? She ruined her own actual real secret to gain this stupid piece of information that preteens called a secret?
Wait a minute...
Zelda went red in the face again as the realization hit her like a bus. She stood up and pointed at them, her whole arm shaking uncontrollably, "th-that's why you were trying to ruin his date with Illia?"
Aryll and Tetra looked at each other.
"Yeah. You know the person who asked him out?" Aryll asked.
Zelda was still trying to comprehend their thought process. If she had answered 'no' would they still have told her the secret?
"Y-you shouldn't be doing that! I'm flattered that you think we should be together but Link is obviously going out with other girls-"
"If anyone can ask Link out you can Zelda," Aryll said.
"Th-that's absurd!" Zelda said as she felt her cheeks getting hotter. "I can't ask him out! I'm in no position to ask him out!"
"Why?" The girls asked innocently.
"Because..." I'm not his type am I? Zelda thought as she picked up her book from the floor, "...I don't..."
"Zelda," Aryll said sweetly putting her hand on Zelda's shoulder, "you should do it. You can do it."
Zelda just stared back at Aryll, not knowing what to say. After a moment or two Aryll said, "c'mon!" And the two of them ran back into Aryll's room.
Zelda leaned back onto the couch. This didn't look like it was going to work out so well.
_^_
"I think that went well," Aryll said jumping onto her yellow-sheeted bed, "now we know one thing: Zelda likes Link."
"Yeah it's helpful to know that," Tetra agreed. "Okay. The first step was to distance Link from any other potential girls."
"And we did that yesterday," Aryll said, "hopefully that Illia girl thinks that Link is some sort of attracter of bad luck or something because of what happened."
"Right we completed step one," Tetra counted on her finger, "next we need to bring Zelda and Link closer." "
"But how do we do that?" Aryll asked. The two girls sat on the bed thinking for a couple moments.
"Hey..." Tetra said turning to face her best friend, "Isn't Thanksgiving coming up soon? What if you guys came over?"
"That's a great idea!" Aryll said jumping off the bed, "we aren't really going anywhere for Thanksgiving. You can jus suggest it to your parents!"
"Okay! And who knows? Maybe Zelda and Link will get some time alone together!"
"We'll just have to create the perfect circumstances."
"Believe me...we can do it."
