《The Sacred Sorceress》07|| Kakariko Village

Mira woke up in a soft bed. For just a second she actually thought she was back in Chalice, in her own bed and that it had all been a dream.

Then she sat up and actually examined the room and realized the truth. None of it had been a dream. So where was she now?

She sat on a twin sized bed, with soft cotton sheets and what looked to be a hand made quilt. Next to the wooden bed was a matching night stand, with an oil lamp on it.

A desk sat close to the doorway on the opposite wall, cluttered with books and all sorts of different papers. To her left a window was covered with curtains, keeping the room dim.

She also noticed that the floor, ceiling, and walls all seemed to be made from packed mud and sand. Then the memories from last night clicked. Were they in Kakariko?

To the sharp protest of her back, she stood and headed to the doorway, concealed with multiple rows of long hanging beads. Her first few steps were a little wobbly, but then she found the strength to make it to the doorway.

She pushed her way through the hanging beads, and entered a larger room. This seemed to be the main room of the small house.

Next to the door, a couch rested under a large window. On the wall adjacent to the couch ran a few tall bookshelves filled with books.

On the wall that the bedroom doorway was connected to, were countertops and cabinets. A round table with a few stools on it sat somewhere between the kitchen and couch area.

The woman that rescued Mira and Link was at the counter, cutting some vegetables on a cutting board.

"Glad to see you're finally awake." Sheik said, without even glancing in Mira's direction.

"How long was I asleep for?" Mira asked, making her way over to the table and sitting upon one of the stools.

"After we had just escaped Castle Town, I was explaining how we needed horses to get to Kakariko. Remember that?" Sheik asked. When Mira nodded, she continued. "Well you just kind of fainted. I had Link stay with you and ran to get two horses from Lon Lon Ranch. Then you rode with Link all the way to Kakariko. I brought you back here, to my home. You slept all through the night and all day yesterday."

"I slept through two nights and a day? Whoa." Mira commented, shaking her head.

"I think it had something to do with that injury on your back. It never got properly treated. Over the course of the few days you were captured, it must've became infected. Plus, who knows what bacteria lay in that cell you were kept in. The infection plus the sudden exertion of escaping with little nutrition caused you to black out." Sheik explained, still not adverting her attention from the vegetables she was cutting.

Mira nodded her head. That did seem to make sense. She looked down and realized that she was wearing some sort of long tunic. It was more like a dress--she had no pants on-- and was very simple. It seemed hand made like most things around here.

"Where's my clothes?" She asked, slightly panicked. That outfit wasn't just any outfit. It was the same clothes the great sorceress wore. If they were lost...Mira wouldn't know what to do.

Sheik chuckled lightly, sensing Mira's concern. "Don't worry, I only removed it so Impa could properly tend to your wound, and I could wash and mend it."

"Who's Impa?" Mira asked, watching as Sheik pulled a box from one of the cupboards and brought it to the table.

"She's a Sheikah, like me. That's the woman I was telling you and Link about before you fainted." Sheik answered, taking a seat across from Mira.

Mira opened the box, revealing her--well, Minara's clothes. She pulled them from the box and laid it out across the table to examine it.

The outfit was just as clean and pristine as it was when Mira was first led to it by the fairy, Zani. Even the white shoes looked untouched, without even a scuff or grass stain.

She flipped the top over, searching for the tear where she had been injured. There wasn't a single sign of repair.

"You're a really talented seamstress. You can't even tell there was ever a tear. And it looks like it's brand new! How'd you get it so clean?" Mira asked amazed. She looked up to see Sheik looked just as amazed as her.

"Well I'll be... I washed and stitched it as thoroughly as possible, but when I put it away there was still a sign of the blood stain on the back and you could see where I stitched it up, but now..." Sheik trailed off, staring down at the clothing in astonishment.

Mira looked down as well. "You mean..it fixed itself?"

"It must have. It sort of makes sense..after all, it did belong to a sorceress and a very powerful one at that." Sheik reasoned. She stood from the table and returned to the vegetables she had been preparing before. "By the way, Link and Impa went out to get some fire wood."

"Oh, I think I'll change now, before Link and Impa return." Mira said, standing up and returning to the bedroom.

She quickly changed from the long tunic she was wearing and paused to examine her back in a mirror hanging on the wall.

The gash had been stitched together and was still slightly pink, a sign that the infection wasn't fully healed. A slick layer of some sort of ointment covered the wound.

Mira dressed carefully, trying to avoid hurting herself and rubbing off the ointment. When she was finished, she came back into the kitchen.

Just then, the front door opened and in walked Link with his arms full of some logs. A tall woman with silver hair followed behind him, also carrying logs.

"Mira! You're awake." Link said with a large grin as he set his logs down next to the stone fireplace that seemed to double as a stove.

He walked over to her and pulled her into a hug, surprising her slightly. "I'm so glad to see you're okay. I was so worried."

"I'm glad to see you too. I can't believe we made it out of there alive." Mira murmured into his shoulder.

He pulled away from the hug. "Me too, it seems pretty crazy. We've been gone from Chalice for just about a week and we've already seen so much. It's more than I would've ever imagined."

Mira nodded in agreement. Suddenly her face fell as a sudden thought hit her.

"What's wrong?" Link asked quickly, seeing her frown.

"Conan. Is he still in the dungeon?" Mira whispered, feeling a sudden wave of guilt.

Link frowned slightly. "I was wondering that too. Sheik says there weren't any prisoners that fit his description, though she couldn't search thoroughly."

The tall woman cleared her throat slightly behind Link. "Sorry to interrupt, but there is much I need to discuss with you two, now that you're both awake."

Link nodded his head and led Mira over to the table. They sat next to each other, across from the woman and Sheik.

Sheik brought over a platter with the vegetables she had cut and put it on the table. Mira helped herself gratefully.

"I'm Impa, if you didn't already guess, Mira." The woman introduced. Mira nodded in acknowledgment. "Sheik brought you here to me because there is much that we need to discuss. What do you two know?"

"Well, I know that Zelda is missing and some imposter is taking over the kingdom. That is why we were sent on the mission. I assume the imposter is the Dark Queen Laila that we met while in captivity." Mira answered.

"We also know that we are somehow tied to the Hero of Time and the Great Sorceress Minara." Link added.

"And the triforce?" Mira added in a somewhat questioning way.

Impa and Sheik shared a look, but Impa nodded thoughtfully. "You two know a good deal, still there is much you still need to learn."

She took a bite from an apple slice before continuing. "It's true that Laila is the imposter, though we suspect she is working under someone else. In order to rid Hyrule of this evil you require the ancient weapon of evil's bane, the Master Sword."

"Yes, the Great Deku Tree informed us of that. We were on our way to Sacred Grove when we were ambushed by Laila's forces." Link answered, receiving another nod from Impa.

"The Great Deku Tree failed to inform you that in order to gain access to Sacred Grove, you require three necklaces. Each one contains a magic charm blessed by Minara that will open the way." Impa told them.

"Do you have these necklaces?" Mira asked naively.

Impa chuckled slightly, though it was more mocking than genuine. "If only it was that simple, young girl. They're hidden within three areas of Hyrule; in Death Mountain guarded by the Gorons, in the Lost Woods guarded by Skull Kid, and in the Zora's Domain just past Lake Hylia guarded by the Zora's. It'll be a tough task, but it must be done."

Mira gulped slightly, trying to process all of this information. She had never even heard of the Lost Woods or Skull Kid, though the thought of that scared her. How were they supposed to do all of this and before Laila could get her hands on Princess Zelda, wherever she was?

"Death Mountain is just up the road from here. This will be a good place to start. Here is the Eldin Necklace, in honor of the Goddess Din." Sheik explained.

"When will we leave?" Link asked determinedly.

Impa smirked slightly, obviously pleased by his courage. "Tomorrow morning. Today you should rest. This afternoon Sheik and I will take you into town to gather supplies."

"I must warn you though, the Goron's have been acting strange. I will accompany you to assist as much as I can." Sheik reassured the two.

Mira was slightly relieved. She was definitely glad to have Link by her side, but she felt even safer knowing that Sheik would be there to help them. She seemed to really know what she was doing.

After the discussion was over, they ate a proper lunch and Mira settled down to read one of the books on the shelves. It was titled The History of Hyrule and seemed intriguing.

Back in Chalice they had a history class and learned some stuff about Hyrule, but after learning about Minara, Mira felt like she knew nothing.

An hour or so later, Impa pulled her from her reading. "Are you ready to head into town?"

Mira nodded her head, closing the book and placing it where she had found it on the shelf.

The two headed outside where Link and Sheik were sword fighting. Mira felt her heart drop slightly as Link pinned Sheik against the wall.

"Gotch'ya." He said with a large grin, Sheik giggled showing off a beautiful smile; she wasn't wearing her wrappings.

Mira looked over to see how Impa was reacting to this, but the woman looked rather pleased.

"You two ready to go?" Mira called out, unable to watch any longer. Link quickly backed away from Sheik, scratching the back of his head as a light blush crawled onto his cheeks.

"Sure thing." Sheik answered, her crimson eyes shifting between Link and Mira. She put the turban like wrappings back on before they left for town.

The group of four headed up the dusty road and into a weapons shop.

There Link bought a new sturdy metal shield with Hyrule's crest, and a bomb bag filled with thirty bombs.

Mira got a bomb bag of her own, sense they would probably need a lot in this type of terrain. She decided not to buy anything else, as she didn't want to waste any more of Impa's rupees and all she really required was her sword. Link seemed to have similar thoughts as he said that was all he needed.

Impa purchased them with some rupees from her wallet then they headed out.

As they were walking back down the road to Sheik's house, Mira spotted a familiar boy flirting with some women outside a café.

"Conan?!" She exclaimed, making the boy turn his head quickly toward them.

Link and Mira stood frozen together staring at their companion who stared back.
