"Seriously, where are we going?" Zelda asked for probably the third time already.

They were no longer in the main part of town and she couldn't seem to recognize anything.

"Patience is a virtue." Link chirped, obviously enjoying her frustration.

Zelda sighed dramatically. "We've been driving for almost fifteen minutes now."

"We'll be there soon, just hold your horses." Link replied calmly.

"You said we'd 'be there soon' five minutes ago." Zelda complained, staring out the window. From what she could see, they were heading up the canyon. Where could Link possibly be taking her out here?

"We should be there in about five more minutes." Link reassured her.

Zelda sighed again and stared hard out the window. They were getting higher up. In the distance down below she could see the river hidden beneath a canopy of trees.

"Are you planning to kill me and dump my body in the river?" She asked, turning to face him.

"Maybe." Link answered with a smirk.

"Or maybe you're planning to push me off a cliff?" Zelda persisted.

"I might if you keep asking where we're going and when we're gonna get there." Link said with a laugh.

"Imagine being in my shoes. This person that I barely know is taking me to a 'surprise location' at three in the morning. On a school night. How would you feel?"

"I guess I'd be a little anxious, but I doubt I'd be so annoying about it." Link teased.

Zelda just rolled her eyes. "You're impossible."

"Impossibly amazing." Link retorted automatically.

"That's what you think." Zelda grumbled, though she was smiling softly.

"You'll be happy to know," Link said dramatically as they pulled on to a dirt road off to the side, "that we're here."

The dirt road led up to a clear area of grass. As they pulled farther into the clearing, Zelda realized they could see the entire city displayed below them.

Link pulled up as close to the edge as he dared, though Zelda would've preferred another two feet between the drop off and the truck.

He parked the vehicle and climbed out, gesturing for Zelda to follow. She obeyed and climbed out after him.

He walked right up to the edge and sat down, dangling his legs precariously over the edge.

Zelda stood a foot or so behind him, astonished at the view below.

"Are you going to stand there all night or are you gonna sit?" Link asked, breaking her from her thoughts.

She stuck her tongue out at him, then cautiously inched her way forward. When she neared the deadly edge, she carefully sat down next to Link and dangled her legs like his.

"So, what do you think? Was it worth the wait?"

"Yes," Zelda breathed, her frustration at Link's evasiveness already forgotten. "It's incredible."

"It's weird to look down on the town. Everything just looks so peaceful you know? It's as if time is standing still." Link remarked, looking out at the view below.

"The stars seem a bit brighter out here, too." Zelda commented, looking up into the dark navy sky.

"How'd you find this place?" She asked, though she didn't break her gaze from the stars.

"My ex-girlfriend brought me up here a few times. She wasn't as taken by it as you are." He said, the last part tumbling from his lips quietly.

She finally broke her staring contest with the stars to look at him inquisitively. "What do you mean?"

"You were so blown away by it. Just like when we went to the greenhouse today." He explained.

Zelda had almost forgotten that the whole greenhouse thing happened that day. Well technically the day before as it was already past three a.m. on Tuesday.

"She was never like that. She hardly lived in the present or took advantage of the things that were happening in the moment." Link elaborated.

Zelda just nodded her head. "I feel like that's how I am a lot of the time actually, but with you.. it's different."

Link looked at her, bidding her to continue.

"It's like.. I don't want to have to worry about things when we're together. I don't worry about things. Everything is just so natural. It feels-"

"Right." Link finished her thought for her. He felt the same way. Even if they had only hung out a couple of times. Today was some of the most fun he had had in a long time.

Zelda nodded her head, returning her attention to the stars above.

"Do you think they'll know it was us?" She asked suddenly.

Link shrugged his shoulders, then realized she wasn't looking at him. "I don't know. We did sign a Z and an L. And we are pretty obvious suspects."

Zelda nodded. "I guess the letters were maybe a bad idea."

"The real question is; do you want them to know?" Link inquired as he laid back on the grass.

Zelda laid down too as she thought about it. "I'm scared I'll get in trouble. If Samus tells our coach I could get kicked off the team."

Link nodded, feeling a bit guilty. If Zelda got into any kind of trouble it would be all his fault. After all, it was his idea. He wondered if she'd be really upset with him. She'd maybe even stop talking to him.

"But, on the other hand, I want them to know it was me. I want them to see it and feel guilty about what they've done. I want them to feel hurt and angry like I did. Ya know?" Zelda finished after a pause.

"Yeah, I know." Link answered. He knew what Zelda was feeling more than she probably realized.

Zelda seemed to catch on to his sad tone. "I noticed you're pretty passionate when it comes to cheating."

Link looked over, unsure where she was going with this.

"On Friday, when we talked at the party, you got pretty upset when I called myself pathetic. You insisted that he was the pathetic one. And today when we were at my house you were pretty insistent that I should have revenge of some sort." Zelda continued, looking over at him.

Link was silent for a moment. "Cheating is wrong, I think any good person knows that."

"Were you cheated on by your last girlfriend?" Zelda blurted before she could stop herself.

Link turned away and looked up at the stars. Zelda stared at him, waiting for him to reply.

After a minute or so he finally sighed deeply. "It's much worse than that. I'm the one who cheated on her."

Zelda was overwhelmed with surprise. Link, the sweet boy who comforted her after she was cheated on had cheated on someone before? She couldn't believe it.

"I know, I'm disgusting. I disgust myself." He said quietly, still refusing to look at Zelda.

"Tell me how it happened." She finally said after a moment of thought. She couldn't believe that Link was that type of person. She needed to know the story behind it.

"Are you sure?" He asked, finally looking at her. She nodded her head. He sat up and looked out onto the city, composing his thoughts. She sat up as well, practically bursting with curiosity.

"A little over a year ago I was dating Malon Lon Lon, do you remember her?" He began.

"Yeah, her family owned Lon Lon Ranch, right?"

Link nodded and continued. "If you remember, she moved away just before the end of sophomore year. At that point we had already been dating for the majority of the school year and had liked each other much longer so of course we desperately wanted to make the relationship work."

He tossed a rock over the edge and watched it hit trees down below before resuming the story.

"Ilia Ordon was my best friend at the time so we used to hangout almost everyday. We had known each other for years and had absolutely no romantic feelings for each other. Or at least I thought she didn't have romantic feelings for me. One night, a few weeks into summer, Ilia convinced me to drink with her. One drink led to another and I inevitably ended up drunk out of my mind."

He sighed as he reached the next part of the story. "As I'm sure you can predict, things got a little crazy that night. As it turned out, Ilia wanted me as more than a friend. I was drunk and she took advantage of that."

"That's not your fault. You were drunk and she took advantage of you. She's the one to blame here." Zelda said comfortingly. Link was different than Ike, he hadn't even seen his girlfriend in a weeks when it happened to him. Ike on the other hand had seen Zelda less than half an hour before he did what he did.

"That's not an excuse. I could've stopped it at any time, but a part of me didn't want to stop. It just felt..good at the time. I've regretted it ever since." He said somberly.

"What happened after that?" Zelda asked, still brimming with curiosity.

"I woke up the next day and freaked out on Ilia. She tried to reach out to me, but I avoided her and eventually she gave up. As for Malon, I called her as soon as I got home the next day and explained everything. She broke up with me of course and that was that." He explained.

They sat in silence for a few minutes, Zelda processing the new information, and Link undoubtably sulking in newfound regret.

"You know, what you did wasn't right, but it's still a lot different than what Ike did to me." Zelda stated, breaking the icy silence.

"Zelda, stop trying to defend me--" Link began to object.

"Let me finish." Zelda said, cutting him off. Link opened his mouth, then thought better of it and closed it again. "As I was saying, it's different than what happened with Ike. You hadn't seen Malon in a few weeks and Ilia came onto you while you were intoxicated. With Ike, not only had he literally just made out with me less than half an hour before he cheated, but I also have a feeling it wasn't the only time."

"You think he cheated on you before then too?" Link asked, though he had the same suspicion.

"Mmhm." She hummed. "Earlier at the party when he went to get me a drink he was gone for ten minutes and when I asked about it, Roy got all nervous and sent a quick text. Not even a minute after, Ike came back with the water. He said he was talking to people, but it seems a little odd. And Roy changed the subject right after."

"That does seem a bit strange." Link agreed.

"Oh my gosh. It all makes sense now." Zelda said suddenly, an expression of realization covering her features.

"What makes sense?" Link asked, giving her a puzzled look.

"So not only was Roy acting all suspicious, but after beer pong when I took Ike up to the room he tried to have sex with me, but I didn't want to do it there so I left him pouting. When I got back to the group I told them he was pouting and Samus asked why. I explained to her that I wouldn't have sex with him and right after she excused herself to get a drink. She probably went out the other door in the kitchen and upstairs to Ike. She knew he was already riled up and drunk to top it off." Zelda explained quickly, barely pausing to breathe.

"Wow." Link said after a moment. "That's pretty messed up for Samus to do."

"Yeah it is..maybe this has been going on for awhile." Zelda sighed.

"You won't know until you ask." Link reasoned with a shrug.

"Ask who? Samus, the one who knowingly cheated with a guy in a relationship? Or the guy who broke my heart? I think I'll save myself the trouble. They'd probably lie anyway."

"I guess you're right. Still, there's always the chance they could tell the truth." Link replied.

"Yeah, but I don't know if I'm ready to talk to either of them. At least not yet." She admitted with a sad sigh.

"That makes sense. Whenever you're ready, I don't think it would hurt to ask. It could be what you need to find closure." The mischievous boy advised.

"Since when are you so wise?" She asked, raising a brow.

"Always have been." Link replied with a sarcastic shrug.

She slapped his chest playfully, "shut up".

"Hey, I'm just being honest!" He said with a laugh, Zelda giggled slightly with him and then sighed.

"If someone told me this is where I'd be at three in the morning on a Tuesday I would not believe them at all." She said randomly. "In fact, even if somebody told me yesterday, I would laugh in their face."

"Well, is it such a bad place to be?" He asked, turning to face her. She turned as well, matching his position. "No, not at all."

She stared into his eyes, glimmering in the starlight and he stared back into hers equally as intently. She glanced down at his perfect pink lips and felt such a strong urge to see what they felt like against hers, but it was way too soon. Not only had she and Ike literally just broken up, but she and Link barely knew each other at all. This was all so crazy, but all so...right?

A large yawn erupted from her mouth, breaking the tension. Link glanced at the watch on his wrist. "Wow, we're approaching 4 a.m. I should probably get you home now...if you want?" He said the end part slowly, his eyes still examining hers almost hoping for her to say no.

"Yeah...we probably should head back." She replied reluctantly. "We do have school tomorrow and OH CRAP!" She exclaimed shooting up.

"What is it??" He replied standing up just as quickly.

"Tomorrow--or today--is Tuesday right?" She asked him with slight panic.

"Yeah, why?" He asked nervously.

"Ugh. I have a volleyball game tonight! I'm going to be so exhausted." Zelda whined, rubbing her temples with her hands.

"Oh..I'm sorry. I forgot about that." Link said softly. "C'mon, let's get you home. We wouldn't want the star of the team to be exhausted, now would we?"

Zelda smiled as he led her over to the truck and opened the passenger side door.

The whole drive home she couldn't stop thinking about the two of them sitting there, surrounded by glistening stars above and the twinkling lights of the city below, just staring at one another. It was one of those moments that you felt could last forever, but also wasn't long enough. Tomorrow would be a hard day, but she didn't regret this night. Not even slightly.
